Online has become the most popular news source by a small margin, as TV viewership continues to decline, according to an Ofcom news consumption survey.

Its report, which saw market research company Jigsaw Research conduct 5,466 interviews, found that 71% view news online, compared to 70% viewing news on television.

It follows a downward trend of TV news viewership over the years, with 79% of respondents saying it was their primary news source in 2018 while 70% said the same in 2024.

The top individual sources however remain Public Service Broadcasters, with BBC and ITV taking the top two spots.

However, both broadcasters have still suffered a decline in viewership over the years with 43% of respondents said they favoured BBC One in 2024, down from 58% in 2019.

ITV1 saw a similar decline, going from 40% in 2019 to 30% in 2024.

Online news has instead increased – up from 68% in 2023 to the 71% this year.

Among adults who directly access news online, the BBC website came out top at 59%, followed by Sky News (20%), The Guardian (20%) and The Daily Mail (19%).

Social media has also become a “significant component of online news consumption” according to the report.

Around 52% of respondents use it as a news source in 2024, compared with 44% in 2018. The most commonly mentioned websites were Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.

Younger people increasingly rely on online news sources, with 88% of 16 to 24-year-olds using the internet for news, and only 49% using TV.

Who even has a TV?

A button bringing users directly to the BBC must be put on all new television remotes, the state-funded broadcaster has said.

In a submission to the British government, the state-funded BBC has demanded that all TV remote controls containing dedicated buttons for the likes of Netflix should be required by law to have a similar button for the BBC.

Seemingly not satisfied with having the power to force all television viewers to pay for their service, regardless of whether they use it or not, the BBC is now expressing frustration at the growth of private entertainment alternatives, with those at the head of the organisation now demanding the government step in to change that.

According to a report by The Times, the UK government has already acquiesced to this demand, with a coming media bill to force smart television makers to include a dedicated section for all public broadcasters — including the BBC — at the top of their main menu within the operating system.

This forced placement is not enough for some at the broadcaster, however, with the BBC demanding that a dedicated button be added to remote controls for televisions sold in the UK where similar buttons are available for other privately owned streaming services.

“Remote controls are a major gateway to content on TV sets and user interfaces — their importance is demonstrated by fierce competition between the largest content providers for branded buttons,” the organisation said.

“Without a legislative backstop, PSBs [public service broadcasters] are losing out to global platforms,” it continued. “There should be a requirement for a dedicated PSB button on remote controls in instances where there are similar buttons for non-PSB services.”

After Baywatch, she married a rock star, Tommy Lee from Motley Crue, and recorded a sex tape with him. She claimed that someone broke into her house and stole the sex tape, a claim which always stretched credulity. The most obvious thing was that she released it herself to promote herself. She later claimed that this widespread publicity somehow damaged her career.

This sexual harassment claim against Allen is also nostalgic in nature. It is saying: “remember that bitch with the tits who gave you your first erection? Remember that comedy sitcom your dad used to watch? Oh yeah, baby: sexual thing.”

Tim Allen is a Christian, and I suspect that some of the Jews around her suggested him as a target.

HBO Max has set a Jan. 12, 2023, release date for Mindy Kaling’s animated series “Velma,” a spinoff of the beloved, but family-friendly, “Scooby-Doo” series.

In this modern, adult-oriented take on the classic “Scooby-Doo” franchise, the series follows the origin story of Velma Dinkley (Kaling), the brainiac of the Mystery Inc. gang. After a corpse is found in her high school, Velma teams up with Daphne (Constance Wu), Shaggy (Sam Richardson) and Fred (Glenn Howerton) to solve the murder.

The official logline reads, “This original and humorous spin unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.”

Back in October, Kaling and showrunner Charlie Grandy revealed at New York Comic Con that Scooby-Doo himself will not make an appearance in the series. Kaling’s series also reimagines several members of the Mystery Inc. gang, including making Velma of South Asian descent.

Calling Indians “South Asian” is so ridiculous.

No one looks at that and thinks “Asian.” Indians are “subcontinental” or “Indian.” Grouping them together with Thais and Malays is just bizarre. They are a totally different race.

Kauffman, who described her donation to her alma mater as “putting my money where my mouth is,” said that her donation had been met with an “amazing” response. “I’ve gotten nothing but love,” she said, describing a “flood of emails and texts and posts that have been nothing but supportive.”

Despite the show’s overwhelmingly white representation, Manhattan, where the characters lived, worked, and played, was between 46% and 49% white during the show’s run from 1994 to 2004, while the city as a whole went from 43% white in 1990 to just 35% white in 2000. 

The problem here is that genetics actually exist.

There’s a reason you feel close to your family. There’s a reason many of you may have reconnected with a cousin or other relative in adulthood, and felt an immediate connection to them. Just so, if you’re American and you end up in a romantic relationship, you might find that if you’re half-German and half-Irish, your lover is this mix as well, even though your connection had nothing to do with that.

I am mostly Irish, and as an adult in other countries, I’d meet people and hit it off with them and then find out they were part Irish. The Irish population was so small for so long, this basically means as a matter of fact we have a common ancestor.

This connection moves out from family, then out from ethnic group, to race.

People intrinsically feel more comfortable around people with genetic similarity. It is an unconscious mechanism that isn’t really even understood. We probably have the ability to understand it at this point, but that kind of research is banned under the politically correct academic regime.

They have done some research on it, because they are trying to figure out a way to stop it (I guess through genetic engineering?) – this is where you got all those articles about babies being “racist.” It’s a real thing that a baby will start crying if it seems someone of a different race.

Dogs also bark at black people, which shows that this ability to recognize a friend/foe distinction on an instinctive level goes beyond humans.

This thing like in Stranger Things where it’s white friends with one black guy – this doesn’t really happen in real life, unless there is a small town that for some reason only has one black person. (In that case, white people will feel bad for the black and try to befriend him, so in that sense, Stranger Things’ diversity is not totally unrealistic.)

Outside of the very specific situation of a small town where one black family happens to live, it doesn’t matter if a city is very large, people of different races are going to congregate together. Even interracial relationships are relatively rare, despite how hard they are pushed in the media. Some white women have casual sex with black men, but the only ones who actually date black men are usually very fat, and they only get attention from black men.

Moreover, black men tend to prefer black women – even when they’re rich. We just had this crucifixion of R. Kelly (30 years in prison by haters for being a straight-up playa), and you notice that all his hoes are black. It was the same with Bill Cosby.

So, this thing with “diverse” casting in TV shows just makes them ridiculous. If you want a diverse show, you have to have some situation where it is logically explained why the races are together. The idea that different races just make friends and hang out with each other just doesn’t happen in real life. When people arguing they’re not racists say “I have a black friend,” they usually mean “I have a casual acquaintance that is black who doesn’t act like a vicious savage ape.”

It is possible for black and white people to make connections, but we’re probably talking about men, and around some skill or profession, which is a common point of interest. So, you sometimes see musicians from different races working together, or men from different races talking about sports. But the relationship is usually based exclusively on that third point. In terms of just casual social interaction, interracial friendships are very rare, because they just don’t form naturally. There is just no connection point.

People hate these new diverse TV shows and films not because they are “racists,” but just because they feel so unnatural and bizarre. In the Spider-Man film series, Peter Parker’s best friend is a fat Pinoy and his girlfriend is black – that doesn’t reflect anyone’s life experience.

I don’t hate Filipinos and I think Zendaya is somewhat sexy. I’m probably less racist than most people. But that situation is simply not realistic. This is not how humans behave. Friends was a Jewish show produced for white people, basically as part of a Jewish social programming/manipulation agenda, but it was popular because people apparently related to it. If they didn’t relate to it, it wouldn’t have been popular. Spider-Man is popular because people like cartoon explosions.

Most of these diverse TV and film productions are failing. All of them are crippled by diversity. The single most popular show in Netflix history was Squid Game, which was also the least diverse show. It was non-diverse because it was made in Korea, and they don’t have diversity.

The writing was not really spectacular. It certainly was not on the level with the Wheel of Time series, or anything even close to that. (The visuals were spectacular, and the acting was inspired, but in a normal world, Squid Game would be considered a mediocre foreign language entry.)

If you’ve ever been in a nonwhite country, you know that if you are in a social setting – a party or bar or something – and you see another white person, you will start to move closer to each other. Even if you don’t speak the same language, you feel an immediate connection, and start to try to come physically closer to each other across a room.

All of these “racism” problems that supposedly exist are a result of refusing to acknowledge the existence of race, and the real world way it affects human interactions.

The show’s ratings have dropped off a cliff since a woman took the lead role, probably due to you know, script problems or something. I watched the Netflix Korean mini-series Squid Game and enjoyed it.

The show is about a group of people with life problems who agree to participate in a series of children’s games where if they lose they are killed. However, despite that premise, it is not a gore fest or torture porn. It’s relatively violent, but I didn’t find anything about it offensive.

After watching it, I found the leftist reviews of the show to be fully retarded. For example, here’s one at Forbes (which is now apparently a communist outlet). Forbes gives unmarked spoilers, for anyone who cares. The show is definitely more enjoyable if you don’t know how it ends. I originally thought this was a horror show, so I didn’t watch it, and instead read the entire plot synopsis on Wikipedia, which I regretted upon actually sitting down and watching it. Part of that is that the ending is really Asian and retarded, and takes away from the show’s strong points, which are the visuals, characters, and the function as a modern fairy tale. In general, the writing has a lot of problems, which makes advanced nuance in the meaning more difficult to interpret (more on that next time).

Moreover, this situation was caused by government intervention. Not to be a libertrarian, but all these oligarchs are government monopolists. That’s just a fact.

So while I do agree with Vaush that unaccountable billionaires is bad, I do not believe this is somehow an exclusively “capitalist” problem, having seen how people live in shitholes. Also, the solution is some kind of pro-Middle Class mixed economy, with some freedom of enterprise and breaking of monopolies, so alternatives to Youtube/Facebook/Mastercard can appear.

But Vaush doesn’t really care anyway. They would rather harass a right-winger for questioning the number of genders then do anything about Bill Gates besides calling him “toxicly White bigoted” etc. and argue that somehow Middle Class White people are also a problem because they are also White toxicly bigoted or defend gay black millionaires because they are black and gay and therefore still oppressed.

I don’t take these people seriously anymore. They are a caricature, they are static noise. They should just be ignored at this point.

In particular, the fact that all of the characters had serious personal problems that caused them to end up playing a game show to the death doesn’t mix with the idea that the show is somehow purely designed to promote some kind of political ideology.

Also, very obviously, like virtually all South Korean media, the show attacks the DPRK, meaning that it is definitely not promoting actual communism.

Also, though Vaush is too dumb and dishonest to really respond in any kind of serious way, I would also note that when he says that rightists would have to say the show is bad or admit that communism is good, he’s misunderstanding the basic nature of the disagreement between right and left. Right-wingers are not so obsessed with making everything political, and even if he was right, and this is a communist show, rightists would be able to appreciate the show on artistic merit.

Ironically, the show should be offensive to Vaush, who only really cares about enforcing the bizarre Democrat social agenda. There are no gays or diversity, and the female characters are hardly strong females – instead using sex and psychological manipulation to survive the game.

At the very least, Squid Game is mostly well done and actually worth discussing, making it unique in the current media climate.

It turns out that all those memes from the 1990s were correct.

Television rots your brain!

Until now, claims that television makes you stupid have only been backed up by anecdotal evidence. True, at a certain point it does seem that people who watch vast amounts of TV do become so intellectually impaired that they start involuntarily clapping along to theme tunes like imprisoned sea lions performing for fish, but that isn’t anything you could write a medical paper about.

Now, sadly, science has trundled along to back it up. According to Dr Ryan Dougherty, from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, the more television you watch in middle age, the lower your volume in grey matter. Examining the viewing habits of 599 American adults between 1990 and 2011, Dougherty found that those who watched an above average amount of television showed reduced volume in their frontal cortex and entorhinal cortex. Basically, your mum was right: TV really does rot your brain.

To make matters worse, Dougherty goes out of his way to suggest other sedentary activities that are better for your brain. Horrifically these include board games. Which raises the question: would you rather lower your IQ by watching the defining cultural art form of the 21st century, or stay clever for ever by joylessly prodding counters around a backgammon board?

This is not the first study to show that TV negatively affects the brain. People have known for years that it puts the brain into a kind of hypnotic state.

I’ve actually never read “Saturday Morning Mind Control” by Phil Phillips, but the cover has always been so intriguing.

I think that is some kind of evangelical thing about how cartoons are satanic. Which makes it all the more intriguing. I can’t find an ebook of it, even. There’s an archive.org version, but you can’t download it.

Here are some more examples of 1990s style anti-TV memes. Because I’m basically a meme historian.

A lot of this was associated with like, “Manufacturing Consent.” In then when MTV first aired, there was a lot of ironic stuff about how “I like my mind being controlled by MTV.” There were a lot of early cartoons on MTV with this theme. That aesthetic really influenced Sam Hyde a lot, I think.

I got a lot of this in comic books from the late 1980s and early 1990s when I was a kind.

I recently went back and read an issue of New Mutants that used all of the memes from the TV mind control material. At the end it thanked Noam Chomsky for writing “Manufacturing Consent.”

It had some really cool 1990s meme imagery, very similar to the MTV cartoons of the time.

As regards TV – I think the threat is maybe kind of out-dated.

Most people use the internet now, I hope?

In some ways, the threat of the internet is even more extreme – at least in the way that most people use it. For 98% of internet users, their entire experience is on social media.

Basically, all of the threats of TV are present, it’s just a much more personalized experience.
