Three Dutch feminists campaign in recognition of the innocent victims of the 15th to 17th centuries witch hunts. They hope to have a national monument erected in their honor.

Part of the campaign involves raising money for the National Witches Monument foundation, chaired by Susan Smit with board members Bregje Hofstede and Manja Bedner.

The three women have raised €35,000 (about $38,000) so far in order to establish an official site in memory of about 70,000 people who died during a Satanic panic that swept across Europe and the US colonies.

Hofstede spoke to The Guardian and said that the killing of witches was essentially femicide, while witches remain comic figures to this day. Every year during Carnival season before Easter Lent in the Netherlands, people burn effigies of witches. The purpose of the foundation is to raise awareness over the fact that the so-called “witches” were, in fact, murdered.

There are three municipalities where the National Witches Monument could be erected. Among these is Roermond, where at least 75 people, mostly women, were burned alive during the most significant witch trials in 1613 and 1614.

In the area of Montferland in the Netherlands, the alleged Dutch witch Mechteld ten Ham was burned alive in 1605 despite having asked for a court trial.

The third potential host city is Oudewater, which had an official witches’ weigh house that issued certificates of innocence if someone’s weight matched their body mass: If a woman was too heavy, she couldn’t be a witch because she couldn’t fly on a broom. In Oudewater today, there is the Museum de Heksenwaag (Museum of Witches’ Scales).

The history of witch hunts in the Netherlands is an issue not covered by history books. Nevertheless, it is a revelation to schoolchildren who visit the museum.

The three feminists believe that such monument would send a strong political message. The Netherlands Institute for Human Rights points out that the country comes 28th in the World Economic Forum’s global gender gap index. Germany is seventh, while the UK is 14th.

Furthermore, Statistics Netherlands reports that a third of women are not economically independent, women are under-represented in politics and in boardrooms, and one in 10 report unwanted sexual advances at work. There is a national plan to counter femicide and a new law against street intimidation.

According to Hofstede, there is a historical link between the witch hunts of old and the way women are treated in modern day society, where certain outdated gender-based beliefs continue to exist.

Who can see this and not determine that you have to beat women into submission?

The Netherlands’ right-wing government said on Wednesday it would seek to opt out from the European Union’s migration rules if and when the bloc next renegotiates its core treaties – even though this is unlikely to happen any time soon.

In power since July, the government led by Geert Wilders’ nationalist, anti-Islam PVV party has said it wants to clamp down on unwanted arrivals and aims for the “strictest-ever asylum regime“, with stronger border checks and harsher rules for arriving asylum-seekers.

“We need to be in charge of our own asylum policy again!”, Faber said, in words reminiscent of similar, immigration-focused political slogans in Britain and elsewhere in recent years.

However, the official letter Faber sent to the European Commission is more nuanced and shows the Netherlands is not trying to opt out now from the EU’s newly agreed immigration pact, which was years in the making and entered into force in June, but hopes to do so at a later stage.

Under the pact, each EU country will be assigned a share – proportional to economy and population – of the total 30,000 asylum-seekers that the bloc is expected to take in per year. Rights groups say this number, based on the number of irregular border crossings and sea rescues, is too low.

A family of 10 Afghan asylum seekers in the Netherlands has refused to leave their hotel accommodation and move into a large family home located by the authorities because the location isn’t right for them.

The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) found the Shinwari couple, who have eight children aged between 2 and 12, a large house in the Zeeland village of Sint-Annaland.

It was reportedly large enough for the couple to relocate from their current accommodation at a hotel in Rotterdam.

The couple, however, refused the housing offer because they believed it to be too far for them to travel from Sint-Annaland to Rotterdam where one of the children is currently receiving semi-regular treatment for a cleft lip.

The trip is a little over an hour by car, and the COA insisted the distance is reasonable and comfortably within the distance radius the agency uses when determining the suitability of social housing.

“Rotterdam is within 50 kilometers as the crow flies,” explained COA lawyer Guusje Dijkman at a court hearing on the matter in Almelo on Tuesday. “It took the COA an incredible amount of effort to find such a large rental house,” he added.

The Afghan family is now taking legal action to prevent their eviction from the hotel accommodation with the family’s lawyer warning that such a move would have “disproportionate” consequences for those involved. “If the family ends up in the homeless shelter, they will almost certainly not be able to stay together,” Reshma Sahebdien told the court.

Counsel for the COA argued, however, that the family has a known “social network in Breda and Antwerp that they can call on,” and claimed that while such a situation would not be ideal, the family has brought it upon themselves after rejecting both adequate and sought-after alternative accommodation.

“It’s annoying and bad for them, but the COA’s concern is not infinite. The couple put themselves in this position,” Dijkman added.

The story has garnered national attention after being commented on by Dutch conservative politician Geert Wilders. He criticized the family for rejecting a house big enough to house the huge family and exposed the preferential treatment given to asylum seekers over Dutch citizens who sometimes wait years for social housing.

“Afghans are offered a huge rental house with priority, suitable for 10 people! But they refuse, it’s not good enough for these fortune seekers,” Wilders tweeted on Tuesday.

“Meanwhile, the Dutch are on the waiting list for 10, sometimes 20 years! Immediately expel those ungrateful freeloaders!” he added.

The Dutch state was wrong to restrict family reunification of asylum seekers and must amend its policy to allow immediate safe passage for family members of those granted asylum within the country, a Dutch court ruled on Monday.

A judge in Haarlem issued a preliminary injunction against the government’s practice of temporarily limiting the number of asylum seekers’ family members permitted to enter the Netherlands, claiming the measure had no legal basis and, in fact, contravened Dutch asylum laws and two provisions of the European Family Reunification Directive.

The ruling came in the case of 47-year old Syrian national, Fakhria Al Mullaabid, a refugee who has been granted a residency permit in the Netherlands; she appealed against the government’s decision to delay permitting the arrival of her six children currently staying in a Sudanese refugee camp for up to six months, unless they could find suitable accommodation in the Netherlands ahead of time.

The Dutch coalition government had introduced the six-month restriction on the entry of family members of asylum seekers in an attempt to ease constraints on the asylum process and limit the number of arrivals into the country. The Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND), which reports to State Secretary Eric van der Burg, announced the delay to family reunification in August, admitting at the time that the “painful measure was not taken lightly.”

However, the court in Haarlem ruled the move unlawful and insisted that the claimant’s family members be allowed to enter the country with temporary residence permits within 24 hours, a decision the Dutch immigration office has since said will be respected.

Dutch conservatives have criticized the decision, with Party for Freedom (PVV) Chairman Geert Wilders accusing liberal judges of giving “presents to asylum seekers” and calling the ruling “insane.”

Asylum cases in the Netherlands have skyrocketed this year, giving the Dutch government a headache over how best to respond to the influx.

The IND revealed last month that it expected the number of applications filed by the end of the year to reach between 48,200 and 55,700.

The rise in the number of applications has had a domino effect on the processing time of applications, with a statement from the IND in November explaining:

“A similar number of new asylum applications will be taken into account next year, further increasing the number of decisions to be made. The legal decision period has recently been temporarily extended from 6 to 15 months.”

A climate extremist glued his own head to the famous Girl with a Pearl Earring painting in the Netherlands in the latest attack on a work of art by climate extremists.

The incident took place at the Mauritshuis Museum in the Hague on Thursday as members of the Just Stop Oil group entered the museum and approached “The Girl with a Pearl Earring” by 17th century painter Johannes Vermeer, with one of the activists glueing his head to the glass in front of the painting.

“Around 2 p.m., two people stuck to the earring of Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring,” the museum said in a statement following the incident, French newspaper Le Parisien reports.

“One person stuck his head to the painting, which was protected by glass, and the other person stuck his hand to the wall where the painting is hung. A third person threw an unknown substance on the painting,” the museum said and continued, “Our experts immediately inspected the painting. Fortunately, it was not damaged.”

The museum added that the painting would be displayed again as soon as possible, while those involved were arrested by police shortly after the attack on the painting.

Last week it was revealed that the Just Stop Oil group, which has been behind a number of attacks on different pieces of artwork including Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflowers in London earlier this month, is being funded by wealthy backers including heiress Aileen Getty, the granddaughter of J Paul Getty, an oil tycoon who was once the world’s richest man.

Two Dutch ministers have submitted an amendment to parliament that would scrap the age limit and expert statement, to simplify changing gender on birth certificates, following pressure from transgender groups.

The legislative amendment to the Transgender Act was submitted by the legal protection minister and emancipation minister to the Lower House of Parliament. “Persons whose gender identity does not correspond to the sex determined at birth can, under certain conditions, change their gender in the birth certificate,” a release published on the website of the Dutch government says.

According to the statement, more people want to change their gender registration, with the numbers rising from 460 in 2016 to 640 in 2018. The amendment was put forward in order “to do justice to the emancipation of transgender people.”

The ministers suggest scrapping the requirement for an expert statement in which a doctor or psychologist establishes the fact of a lasting conviction of belonging to the opposite sex. The statement says transgender groups consider this requirement to be a violation of the right of individuals to self-determination. The simplified procedure would involve written submission of the desire to change gender registration, and confirmation four to 12 weeks later.

The proposed legislation would also scrap the age limit, so that children under the age of 16 can change their gender registration. This is being done as a nod to transgender groups and parents who say that some young people already live with a gender other than that designated at birth before they reach 16. The legislation would also allow changes in registration to be done at the place of current residence, rather than the place of birth. The bill will have to be approved by both houses of the Dutch Parliament and then signed into law by the head of state.

The procedures for changing gender on birth certificates were introduced in 2014 with the Transgender Act. The legislation also abolished the requirement for people to undergo surgery, including sterilization, to legally change their gender.

Grilled by media about their apparently relaxed response to the pandemic, Swedish politicians respond that the government will take its cue from experts at the country’s Public Health Agency.

The agency has yet to call for stricter measures, arguing that the elderly should stay home, not children.

“As soon as the Public Health Agency requests that the government make a decision, we will do it this quickly,” Health Minister Lena Hallengren, snapping her fingers, said earlier this month.

But not everybody shares the government’s faith in the agency, with some accusing it of putting lives at risk.

On Monday, Sweden’s former state epidemiologist and current advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO), Johan Giesecke, encouraged Swedes to go out and enjoy the spring sun.

“Bring a friend and walk a metre apart. Don’t hug your neighbour. Bring a thermos and sit on a park bench. It’s bad for your health to sit at home too,” Giesecke told broadcaster SVT’s morning show.

The lockdown really is a psychological weight on people, especially because it only exists to save the lives of older persons, as well as fat and sick individuals who don’t even go out that much to begin with.

Healthy, social people want to go out, do cocaine and perform sexual acts on hookers who are cosplaying as Corona.

Unless governments start delivering cocaine and hookers wearing Corona costumes, civil unrest will rise.

A stunning 44 percent of women in the Netherlands regularly feel unsafe in public spaces, according to findings of a large survey conducted by De Telegraaf.

Over 1,000 female readers were polled on a series of questions pertaining to personal safety and security, and the results indicate a sizable portion of the country’s female population is unable to comfortably move about in public on a consistent basis.

“Avoid public transport in the evening, hold your breath when you pass a group of young men on the street and always have a bunch of keys or a hair spray in your hand to ‘arm yourself’ against sudden danger: for a considerable number of Dutch women this has become the daily reality,” De Telegraaf reports.

• 42% sometimes walk alternate routes, even if they are longer, for safety reasons
• 43% sometimes feel unsafe taking taxis
• 28% feel unsafe walking around due to harassment by groups of men
• Most women who have been attacked or sexually assaulted were not assisted by bystanders

A Pakistani migrant male has been jailed for ten years in the Netherlands for his plot to launch a terror attack against Dutch firebrand Geert Wilders in revenge for his organising a ‘draw Mohammad’ free speech event.

The ten-year sentence for the Pakistani male — identified in the trial only as ‘Junaid I.’ due to Dutch privacy laws — is significantly higher than the six years requested by the public prosecutor, the judges in the case noting a longer period of incarceration was required because of the seriousness of the crime.

The seriousness of the crime is coming from the fact that Wilders is most likely a Mossad agent.

Not just someone who pays lip service to save himself some trouble, but just a straight-up true-believing Israel firster.

Also one that said he didn’t mind foreigners invading his country so long as they’re OK with man-on-man buttsex.

The court had previously heard how Junaid had repeatedly said he wanted to kill Geert Wilders, whose Party for Freedom is the second largest in the Netherlands, that he beleived the death of Mr Wilders would be a good thing, and that the attention he was gaining from the trial was improving his public standing back home in Pakistan. For these reasons and because he believed Junaid still presented a terrorism risk, the judges in the case said a longer sentence was in order.

Junaid I. argued throughout the trial that he had not wanted to kill Mr Wilders, but rather had travelled to the Netherlands from Pakistan to protest against the lawmaker, reports Algemeen Dagblad. Despite the claims, the court had previously found the 27-year-old guilty of preparing a terror attack, and his intention to murder Mr Wilders.

Flying halfway across the planet to “protest” someone saying mean things about the gibberish some schizophrenic pedophile made up makes you look a lot worse than trying to outright kill him.

The apparent flashpoint for Junaid was a draw Mohammed cartoon competition being organised by Mr Wilders in the Netherlands in 2018, which was cancelled for security reasons around the time of the arrest of the Pakistani migrant. The Pakistani government issued a statement celebrating the cancellation at the time, the nation’s senate having already passed a resolution to condemn the event.

In 2015 11 cartoonists, writers, and editors at French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo were murdered at their place of work by Muslim gunmen in a revenge attack over the paper’s occasional publishing of satirical cartoons of Mohammed. Later the same year, a freedom of speech event in Copenhagen featuring an artist who had made cartoons of Mohammed was targeted in a shooting, the attacker going on to continue his rampage at the city’s Jewish museum.

Again in 2015, a free speech event in Garland, Texas featuring a draw Mohammed competition and attended by Geert Wilders was targeted by Muslim extremists who were killed by law enforcement.

Speaking to Breitbart London after the Garland attack, Wilders said of his determination to stick to his freedom of expression principles: “We should do exactly what it is terrorists want to stop us from doing – otherwise the message we send to terrorists is that violence and the threat of violence can be effective. And this cannot be the case… We should use the paper and pen to win over those who use guns.

A Dutch lawyer in a major gangland case has been shot dead outside his Amsterdam home – a crime described by police as exceptionally brutal.

Derk Wiersum, 44, was the lawyer for a state witness in a case against members of a violent drug gang, who are accused of five murders between 2015 and 2017.

A hoodie-wearing suspect fled on foot.

Police chief Erik Akerboom said “with this brutal murder, a new limit has been crossed: now even people simply doing their work no longer seem safe”.

Jan Struijs of the NPB police union said “organised crime has got totally out of control”. He said the Netherlands had turned into a “narco-state”.

And Justice Minister Ferd Grapperhaus called the shooting “an attack on our rule of law”.

Police said they were looking for a young man dressed in black and a hoodie, seen fleeing the scene after the shooting soon after 07:30 local time (05:30 GMT).

One of Mr Wiersum’s two children was at home at the time.

On Twitter fellow lawyer Jillis Roelse called it “one of the blackest days” for criminal law practitioners.

Mr Wiersum had been defending a gang member who turned state witness – named by Dutch media as Nabil B – whose brother was shot dead last year.

The five gangland murders in Utrecht and Amsterdam were nicknamed the “Mocro Maffia” wars, which inspired a fictional Dutch TV crime series, involving Moroccan-origin gangsters.

The main suspects in those killings are two Dutch gangland figures of Moroccan origin: Ridouan Taghi and Said Razzouki.

The EU police agency Europol lists them among Europe’s “most wanted fugitives”.
