The Taylor Police Department (TPD) responded to the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Taylor, Texas, on Saturday at around 12:18 a.m. where they found a dead teen who had been shot in the face, according to a TPD press release.

Taylor police later identified the victim as 17-year-old Jade Erwin of Elgin, Texas. According to the press release, an investigation discovered that the shooting took place “in a moving vehicle in Bastrop County.”

Police say 25-year-old Marquis Wilson of Elgin, Texas, and a female subject then drove to the hospital in Taylor where Erwin was found dead. The vehicle was located on scene and both subjects were later found hiding in a dumpster at a Beall’s department store.

According to police, both subjects have been apprehended and Wilson has been charged with manslaughter.

A former employee of a Taylor trucking company was sentenced to life in prison Monday for shooting his boss to death, starting a deadly rampage in which he also killed a man in Pontiac.

Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Lawrence Talon sentenced Vernest Griffin, 46, of Sterling Heights on a range of offenses that included murder, felony firearms, armed robbery and felonious assault in the slaying of 60-year-old Keith Kitchen at BSD Linehaul on Feb. 1, 2018.

Griffin will serve two years for the felony firearms conviction, followed by 32-48 months for felonious assault. He will serve 45-75 years for armed robbery and natural life for the murder of Kitchen.

Griffin refused to come into the courtroom to face the family and to hear his sentence in person. He reportedly had a video and audio connection to be able to hear the proceedings.

Standing outside the courtroom next to Kitchen’s widow, his sister Margaret said: “I wish they (had) come out to tell us he’s hanging in his cell. That’s what I wish for. I’m angry.

“It’s not going to bring back my brother, not going to back her husband,” Kitchen’s sister said. “It’s not going to bring back my mother’s son.”

This is the result of Trump’s “lowest ever black unemployment.”

A jury has found a Sterling Heights man guilty of first-degree premeditated murder for shooting and killing a man in Taylor on a crime spree last year.

Vernest Griffin was charged with first degree murder in the fatal shooting of 60-year-old Keith Kitchen at a trucking company in Taylor in 2018. He’s also accused of stealing a semi-truck and driving to another business in Pontiac, where he allegedly killed another man, 58-year-old Eriberto Perez.

Police say Griffin also went to a third business in Waterford about 20 minutes later. He was seen leaving Assured Trucking, where officials say he asked for someone by name and left. After that, he got back in the semi truck. A few minutes later, he stopped the truck and shot at Waterford Police officers, and then got back in the truck and continued to drive away. A few minutes after that, he got in an accident at Frembes and Dixie.

Griffin was arrested after a shootout with Waterford police officers. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard says it was “clearly, a planned killing spree.” Authorities recovered an AK-47 from the vehicle, as well as “multiple, multiple” rounds of magazines, Bouchard said.

He is facing charges in two counties — Wayne and Oakland. A jury reached a decision in his murder trial on Friday in the Wayne County shooting at the trucking company in Taylor.

Taylor Police say the suspect was a former employee of BSD Trucking. Police say the suspect returned to the business once since being let go for a payroll dispute, and threatened the same employee with a gun. Taylor Police responded to that incident in November of 2017 and arrested the suspect, Vernest James Griffin. Griffin received multiple charges, including assault and weapons charges, and was out on bond.
