Border guards from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan once again exchanged fire on Friday morning, following an escalation of tensions earlier in the week. 

Kyrgyz military officials accused Tajikistan of a “treacherous attack on border and civilian facilities” and claimed that sporadic clashes were taking place “all along the border.” The situation remained tense as of 3am GMT. The government in Bishkek reportedly ordered evacuations from several border areas.

Tajikistan in turn claimed that Kyrgyz border guards had shelled one of their border posts with mortars, and accused the neighboring state of conducting an unprovoked “armed attack” on several settlements.

There was no official confirmation of any fatalities from the latest flare-up. A similar incident on Wednesday morning claimed the life of at least one soldier, with several others wounded.

Tensions occasionally spike between the two Central Asian countries, as they are unable to fully agree on their 1,000km-long border.

It would be really easy to start any kind of conflict in this area.

Pelosi is going to Armenia to promote war.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and fellow California Democrat Jackie Speier will visit Armenia this weekend in a show of support for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Politico reported on Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter. The congressional visit comes shortly after border clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia resulted in over 170 deaths.

Pelosi is already in Germany, where she is attending the G7 Speakers’ Summit in Berlin in support of “Ukraine’s heroic fight” against Russia. According to Politico, she will fly out to Yerevan after the conference with Speier, who is Armenian-American.

Speier’s office has not commented on the report, while Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, Drew Hammill, told Politico that they “don’t confirm or deny international travel in advance due to longstanding security protocols.”

This seems to be a key part of the plan of the US to deal with the fact they are losing in the Ukraine – they are just going to start fires everywhere on Russia’s border.

A Republican congressman who railed against the Biden administration’s Kabul evacuation has reportedly traveled to Georgia (the country) as part of an unauthorized operation to extract Americans still stranded in Afghanistan.

The daring rescue mission, which reads like a script for a corn-fed Hollywood action film, was first reported by Тhe Washington Post. According to the paper, Oklahoma Rep. Markwayne Mullin rang up the US ambassador to Tajikistan on Monday with an urgent and highly unusual request: he was planning to fly from Tbilisi, Georgia, to Tajikistan’s capital, Dushanbe, in the next few hours, and needed help safely transporting a large amount of cash across the border. The GOP lawmaker explained that he would then take a helicopter into Afghanistan as part of a self-initiated mission to rescue five American citizens – a woman and her four children – who were trying to get out of the country.

Embassy staff in Dushanbe reportedly rejected the request, saying that they were unwilling to help the congressman bypass Tajikistan’s laws restricting the movement of cash, particularly since his final destination would be Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

According to officials familiar with the matter, Mullin was outraged by the decision and used threatening language directed at Washington’s envoy to Tajikistan, John Mark Pommersheim.

Mullin’s current whereabouts remain unknown, but his office released a statement that he was “safe” and that the lawmaker would “continue to do anything… to bring home all Americans from the war zone.”

The State Department declined to comment on Mullin’s one-man mission or his interactions with the US embassy in Tajikistan. The White House also refused to comment but pointed to a government bulletin urging American citizens against traveling to Afghanistan.

German authorities say police have arrested four suspected members of the Islamic State group alleged to be planning an attack on American military facilities.

Federal prosecutors said the suspects were arrested by tactical police units early Wednesday at various locations in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

They identified the men as Azizjon B., Muhammadali G., Farhodshoh K. and Sunatullokh K. — all citizens of Tajikistan. The suspects’ surnames weren’t released for privacy reasons.

The men’s alleged leader, a 30-year-old Tajik man identified only as Ravsan B., has been in jail since March 2019 on unspecified charges.

Tajikistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs recently announced it has compiled a list naming 367 suspected gay citizens to test them for sexually transmitted diseases, according to the official journal published by the Central Asian country’s Prosecutor-General’s Office.

The journal also said prosecutors and police identified the 319 men and 48 women through operations called “Purge” and “Morality” but did not describe the methods used or the purpose of the operations.

An anonymous police source told news agency AFP that the government created the registry, because “strict medical records were needed for members of the gay community because such people have a high risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections through infectious diseases.”
