Six Massachusetts eighth graders face criminal charges in connection with “hateful and racist comments” in a group chat that allegedly included threats and a mock slave auction, officials said.

The group chat unfolded on Snapchat on Feb. 8 into the early morning hours of Feb. 9 among multiple juveniles in Southwick, a suburb of Springfield, according to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.

Several students “expressed hateful and racist comments, including notions of violence toward people of color, racial slurs, derogatory pictures and videos, and a mock slave auction directed at two juveniles known to them,” Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said at a press briefing on Thursday announcing the charges following a monthlong investigation.

The chat was reported to school authorities in Southwick on Feb. 9, Gulluni said. Southwick police were also notified. Gulluni said he became aware of the incident on Feb. 15 and launched an investigation into the use of “hate speech and race-based bullying.”

As a result of the investigation, six juveniles now face charges, Gulluni said. All are eighth graders at the Southwick Regional School, aged 13 or 14, he said.

“There is no question that the alleged behavior in this case of these six juveniles is vile, cruel and contemptible,” Gulluni said. “Seeing it, and facing the reality that these thoughts, that this ugliness can exist within middle school students here in this community in 2024 is discouraging, unsettling and deeply frustrating.”

All six have been charged with threat to commit a crime, according to the district attorney’s office. One has additionally been charged with interference with civil rights and witness interference, while another has also been charged with interference with civil rights, the district attorney said. Their names are not being released because they are juveniles, according to the district attorney.

“With this I intend to be very clear: Hatred and racism have no place in this community, and where this behavior becomes criminal, I will ensure that we act — and act with swift resolve, as we did here — to uncover it and bring it to the light of justice,” Gulluni said.

Several students, including those charged, were immediately suspended from the Southwick Regional School on Feb. 12 over the chat, according to the district attorney’s office. Several students were formally suspended several days later, including two for 25 days and one for 45 days, the office said.

A Springfield woman told WCVB that her 13-year-old daughter was one of the targets of the alleged mock slave auction.

“If they have this level of hate in them now at this tender age of 13 and 14, it worries me,” she told the station last month. “I know this is not something we can just walk away from.”

The public school district in Seattle has filed a novel lawsuit against the tech giants behind TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Snapchat, seeking to hold them accountable for the mental health crisis among youth.

Seattle Public Schools filed the lawsuit Friday in U.S. District Court. The 91-page complaint says the social media companies have created a public nuisance by targeting their products to children.

It blames them for worsening mental health and behavioral disorders including anxiety, depression, disordered eating and cyberbullying; making it more difficult to educate students; and forcing schools to take steps such as hiring additional mental health professionals, developing lesson plans about the effects of social media, and providing additional training to teachers.

“Defendants have successfully exploited the vulnerable brains of youth, hooking tens of millions of students across the country into positive feedback loops of excessive use and abuse of Defendants’ social media platforms,” the complaint said. “Worse, the content Defendants curate and direct to youth is too often harmful and exploitive ….”

Meta, Google, Snap and TikTok did not immediately respond to requests for comment Saturday.

Snap Inc. Chief Executive Officer Evan Spiegel said the company was exercising its First Amendment right to free speech when it decided not to amplify President Donald Trump’s content to a broader audience — and he’s surprised other social media sites aren’t willing to do the same.

Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc. have been embroiled in controversy over their handling of Trump’s message, that said in part, “when the looting starts, the shooting starts,” as protests were gaining steam over racial injustice and police violence. Twitter put a warning label on the tweet, while Facebook declined to do so, prompting backlash from its employees. Spiegel took a broader approach, saying if Trump wanted to promote violence and racism on Twitter, Snapchat didn’t need to post his views on its Discover page.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been reluctant to fact check or remove content from politicians, citing free speech principles. Spiegel said the First Amendment actually protects the speech of companies against government censorship.

“I’ve been surprised that other platforms are less willing to exercise their First Amendment rights to decide what’s right and wrong,” Spiegel said in an interview. “We would be devastated if we felt like our products were being used to do bad things in the world.”

This is exactly what people like Ben Shapiro say about these companies – that they have their own First Amendment rights to censor. It’s a stupid argument that immediately falls apart.

Firstly, companies this size are always regulated by the government. Even if you’re a libertarian, you have to admit that everything is already regulated by the government so having one industry that is allowed to remain completely unregulated simply gives them a massive advantage over the rest of society in a completely unfair way.

Secondly, these companies are literally funded by the government through various tax incentives, and sometimes even grants.

Thirdly, the entire infrastructure they use was paid for by the taxpayer. They could not have companies without using this infrastructure. Getting kicked off of these services is like getting kicked out of a public park because you don’t believe in German gas chambers.

Fourthly, these companies are providing what are now critical services, meaning they should be subjected to universal service provisions.

Fifthly, the phone companies were subjected to “common carrier” universal service provisions back all the way in 1934.

Sixthly, these companies are the public space now, the modern town square, and they don’t have a right to deprive you of your Constitutional rights.

All of that amounts to this: we have a right to use these services, just like everyone else.

These people in Silicon Valley are not gods. They do not have a right to tell us what to do.

The only living gods who can order us around are the blacks.

Mapping service Mapbox says that a breakdown in its filtering process was responsible for an incident that briefly saw the company’s map of New York City renamed to ‘Jewtropolis’ by vandals.

The mapping site issued a statement Thursday morning to address the defacement of the maps it provides to many sites and apps, including SnapChat and Zillow.

“We build systems so this does not happen,” the company said of the thing that just happened.

“Our maps are made from over 130 different sets of data, and we have a strong double validation monitoring system. Our preliminary root cause analysis shows that this act of hate speech was properly detected immediately and put into quarantine for human review.”

While Mapbox says it is working to track down the culprit, the belief is that someone made an edit to the OpenStreetMap data that MapBox uses for its street maps. Apparently that edit was then picked up by MapBox and fed to the likes of Snap and Zillow.

So here’s really what happened here. A bunch of filthy Jews from like Randy Glein from DFJ Growth Management, LLC and Ira Ehrenpreis from DBL Partners decided to make millions of dollars selling private map data by just repackaging good-faith contributions from OpenStreetMaps data. They never did anything to give back to the OSM community. These fucking Jews made millions of dollars off of the work of others and then did absolutely nothing at all to give back to the people that actually did the work. You can say it’s open source and they don’t have to, but it’s an obvious moral wrong and you’re obviously a filthy, stinking kike thief that deserves nothing but suffering and pain and destruction.

Of course, anyone who was prepping to do this and took a leveraged put option position against Snapchat this week would have seen over a hundred percent return on investment on the suffering of Jews. A 3% drop in a share value on a leveraged put position can generally yield about an 80% return, so whoever is responsible for this is probably sitting on a good 140% on their position or more, depending on when they took it last week.

The Air Force Reserve is kicking out a recent recruit who appeared in a racist video that went viral earlier this week.

The recruit, who Air Force Reserve Command would not name but has been identified elsewhere as Tabbie Duncan of St. Louis, Missouri, “is in the process of being released from her enlistment in the Air Force,” Lt. Col. Chad Gibson said in an email Thursday evening.

“The video, released days after her enlistment, is intolerable and does not reflect the values of the Air Force,” Gibson said.

The brief video spread quickly, and caused a firestorm of outrage online. In it, Duncan and a few others are shown riding down a dark road.

The cameraman says they were “hunting” n-words, and then identifies Duncan as his future sister-in-law. She is shown holding a beer bottle and says, “Get them” n-words.

The New York Daily News reported Tuesday that Duncan apologized in an interview, and said that she was drunk and is not racist.

“I was intoxicated,” Duncan told the Daily News. “I have black friends, I have black people in my family, I didn’t mean it. I didn’t know that I was being [recorded]. I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt anybody, I was drunk. I need to seek help.”

No um, really you don’t need to “seek help” for making a nigger joke.

A southern Minnesota judge dismissed a child pornography charge against a 14-year-old girl who sent an explicit image of herself to a boy over Snapchat, saying that using the state’s child pornography statute to prosecute the girl produces “an absurd” result.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota made a redacted version of the decision public Friday, saying the ruling by Rice County District Judge John Cajacob sends a message that prosecuting teens for sending explicit images of themselves isn’t the intent of Minnesota’s child pornography law.

“Isn’t the intent of the law?”

“The punishment is vastly disproportionate to this girl’s ‘crime,’” Cajacob wrote. “This Court cannot see how subjecting (the girl) to registering as a sexual offender would protect her or teach her anything but that the justice system is cruel and unjust. The idea that heavy-handed enforcement of pornography laws is going to help these misguided, struggling teens is itself absurd.”

Snapchat and Instagram have temporarily removed their Giphy GIF sticker features after users saw an extremely racist GIF as an option to add to their images. Snapchat confirms to TechCrunch “As soon as we were made aware, we removed the GIF and have disabled Giphy until we can be sure that this won’t happen again . . . while we wait for Giphy’s team to take a look at it.”

Let me ask you this: what the hell is the point of Snapchat if you can’t send your friends racist animated memes? How the hell are you supposed to keep a solid chat streak going if this ban on GIFs takes away all your content?

A source tells TechCrunch the same racist GIF was spotted in Instagram as well, indicating that Giphy is at fault. A tweet by Lyauna Augmon shows the GIF being used within Instagram. Giphy appears to have removed the GIF as it’s no longer available in Instagram. An Instagram spokesperson tells TechCrunch “This type of content has no place on Instagram. We have stopped our integration with Giphy as they investigate the issue.” The company confirms the change has been made but might take some time to propagate to all users.

The Snapchat spokesperson says that all GIFs in Snapchat are meant to be “rated PG,” meaning they’re mostly suitable for the 13-and-up teens that are technically allowed on Snapchat.

In the past month, Snapchat has been working as hard as possible to alienate their own core audience – young people. And let me tell you – young people don’t give one flying fuck about racist memes.

We must secure the existence of our apps and a future for chat streaks.

We see a lot of evil shit going on in the tech world. Twitter is censoring candidates for congress. Facebook is spying on people and manipulating their emotions. Apple is slowing down their old phones.

But none of this comes close to the pure, unadulterated viciousness of Snapchat’s misdeed.

A Snapchat “streak” occurs when users send snaps each other snaps consecutively for at least three days. Once a streak is established a small flame will appear next to a friend’s name and it will begin to count how many days you’ve maintained your steak for.

Can you imagine being in high school, forced to be in the same room as dozens of hostile foreigners while a stupid teacher drones on about the holocaust, your streak being the only thing bringing a light of joy in your day, and then having that taken away by conniving kikes?
