U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday rescinded sanctions imposed by the former Biden administration on far-right Israeli settler groups and individuals accused of being involved in violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, the new White House website said.

The website said Trump rescinded Executive Order 14115 issued on Feb. 1, 2024, which authorized the imposition of certain sanctions “on Persons Undermining Peace,Security, and Stability in the West Bank.”

Trump’s decision is a reversal of a major policy action by former President Joe Biden’s administration which had slapped sanctions on numerous Israeli settler individuals and entities, freezing their U.S. assets and generally barring Americans from dealing with them.

As much of the world’s attention has focused on the war in Gaza, growing violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank and land grabs in the occupied territory have raised concern among some of Israel’s Western allies.

U.S. sanctions on settlers landed after the Biden administration repeatedly urged the Israeli government to take action to hold extremists to account for actions that Washington believes set back hopes for a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians.

Since the 1967 Middle East war, Israel has occupied the West Bank of the Jordan River, which Palestinians want as the core of an independent state. It has built Jewish settlements there that most countries deem illegal. Israel disputes this and cites historical and Biblical ties to the land.

Trump’s approach to settlements was significantly different. During his first term in 2019, Trump had abandoned the long-held U.S. position that the settlements are illegal before it was restored by Biden.

The sanctions didn’t even matter. They were a weird “symbolic gesture.” Joe Biden wouldn’t ever have done anything that would be against the will of the Jewish people.

But it is also a “symbolic gesture” for the US to officially signal approval of the genocidal Jew lunatics in the West Bank (even though they are really no different in any way other than branding from the IDF itself).

But hey, the J6ers are free and all foreign aid has been ended (except, presumably, that which goes to Israel).

Chinese government hackers breached a highly sensitive office in the Treasury Department that administers economic sanctions against countries and groups of individuals — one of the most potent tools possessed by the United States to achieve national security aims, according to U.S. officials.

The targeting of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) as well as the Office of the Treasury Secretary — developments not previously reported — reflects Beijing’s determination to acquire intelligence on its most significant rival in the global competition for power and influence, said the officials, who like others interviewed for this report spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter’s sensitivity.

A top area of interest for the Chinese government, current and former officials said, would be Chinese entities that the U.S. government may be considering designating for financial sanctions.

The hack also compromised the Treasury Department’s Office of Financial Research, according to the officials. The full impact of the breach, which was disclosed by Treasury in a letter to Congress on Monday, is still being assessed. The documents accessed were unclassified and there is no evidence the hacker still has access to Treasury systems, the department said.

A spokesman for the Treasury Department declined to comment. The Chinese foreign ministry has called claims of the breach “groundless,” and said that Beijing “has always opposed all forms of hacker attacks.”

Even unclassified documents can be very useful to a competitor like China, current and former officials said.

A breach of OFAC, in particular, could lead to the disclosure of sensitive information about government sanctions deliberations. Before designating a target, OFAC compiles an “administrative record” that purports to show how the evidence collected meets the statutory or regulatory criteria for designation.

The records can include everything from open-source materials to “law enforcement sensitive” information and classified material provided by U.S. or foreign law enforcement, according to four former government officials. The unclassified materials are frequently stored on the government’s unclassified systems, and these may include emails or communications with other agencies and units within Treasury.

Classified material and law enforcement sensitive information, such as the identities of secret law enforcement sources, are stored separately.

But there is enough in the unclassified record that could enable an adversary to glean useful insights into how the United States is developing sanctions on foreign targets, as well as the identities of potential targets for designation. Indeed, the unclassified information in the administrative record is used to compile the news release that Treasury issues after a designation that names the person or entity being sanctioned and why.

“Gaining access to even unclassified information held by OFAC could provide the Chinese government with valuable intelligence, as such information is used to build a case for sanctioning organizations and individuals,” said David Laufman, who previously oversaw sanctions enforcement in the Justice Department’s National Security Division.

Sure, the government is admitting that the information was worthless, and obviously the Chinese are capable of going for much higher value targets, but maybe they did this by accident or something.

A senior US diplomat has rejected Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s claim of victory in the July election and urged him to resign and allow a power transition, while threatening further sanctions if he fails to do so.

Francisco Palmieri, who leads the Venezuelan Affairs Unit at the US embassy in Colombia – as Washington has no diplomatic presence in Caracas – made the remarks on Wednesday in an interview with Venezuela’s El Nacional newspaper.

Palmieri argued that Maduro, who has led Venezuela since 2013, should recognise his rival Edmundo Gonzalez as the actual winner of the election before January 10, when the presidential inauguration ceremony is due to take place.

According to Venezuelan electoral authorities, Maduro defeated Gonzales in the July 28 presidential ballot. However, the opposition – along with most Western countries – have claimed the vote was rigged.

“Is it the deadline for Maduro. If he stays, things will only get worse for Venezuela,” Palmieri told the paper.

Washington will likely introduce new sanctions and continue to “individually punish” those associated with Maduro, Palmieri warned, adding that Caracas is bound to face “many problems internally and internationally” if Maduro remains in power.

All of these small moves by the non-Western countries are starting to stack up.

You can easily see the dollar falling as the world currency over a period of decades, just on this current trajectory.

Addressing a formal ceremony in Tehran on Monday, Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Governor Mohammad-Reza Farzin described the connection of Russia’s Mir and Iran’s Shetab payment systems as a major step towards economic cooperation and de-dollarization, as well as facilitating economic and tourism relations between the two countries.

“The project … started with the aim of creating integration in the payment networks and facilitating financial transactions between the citizens of the two countries,” the CBI chief stated, as quoted by the Tehran Times, noting also that the process will consist of three phases.

Farzin had earlier told reporters that the agreement to connect the two countries’ domestic payment systems was finalized during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Elvira Nabiullina on the sidelines of the Financial Congress of the Bank of Russia in St. Petersburg in July.

Standardizing payment systems is a big step in allowing these countries to bypass the dollar, though it is the underlying financial mechanisms that matter the most. This is a more complicated process that will require China and Russia to work together to establish a new currency backed by gold.

China has already started dumping US treasuries and buying gold, so that is on the way as well.

Even if the US does not burn out in a war, this current situation is unsustainable.

It’s unlikely the Chinese are actually supplying weapons to the Russians. The relationship is more of the reverse, where China provides economic aid to Russia while Russia provides weapons technology to China.

The thing about this sanctions war the US is fighting against every non-homosexual country is that the further you push the sanctions, the less likely these countries are to even try to cooperate with the US.

Right now, there is economic benefit to China in not totally alienating the US, but the more of these sanctions the US piles on them, the less reason they have to continue doing business with the US, the less reason they have not to just send the PLA to the Ukraine or Iran or wherever else.

China is so ultranationalistic that any kind of war would allow the government to ease up on the economy. That’s the conundrum here. China is concerned about their economy so long as they are not involved in a conflict with the US, because unlike democracy countries, in China public opinion is very important.

However, if they were directly involved in a conflict with the US, the people would tolerate a very serious economic downturn. This is a balancing beam that both China and the US are walking. Or maybe it is more akin to a game of chicken. At this point, China must understand that the US is hellbent on open war, and this is going to happen unless the US government loses the ability to project military power in the Pacific sometime soon.

Who knew that it was even possible to put more sanctions on Iran?

The United States announced Friday sanctions targeting Iran’s energy trade in light of the Oct. 1 ballistic missile attack launched by the country against Israel.

According to a statement issued by the Department of State, the department “is imposing sanctions on six entities engaged in Iranian petroleum trade and identifying six vessels as blocked property.”

Meanwhile, the Department of the Treasury “is issuing a determination that will lead to the imposition of sanctions against any person determined to operate in the petroleum or petrochemical sectors of the Iranian economy,” the statement said.

This is more than likely an attempt to sanction China, rather than Iran directly. China is the primary and effectively the sole buyer of Iranian oil, and based on the wording here, it appears that the US could kidnap Chinese people for doing business with Iran.

Remember when the US ordered Canada to kidnap Meng Wanzhou, the daughter of the founder of Huawei? The terrorists held her for over 1000 days, claiming primarily that it was illegal for Chinese people to do business with Iran because the US said so.

Or maybe these alleged new sanctions do not mean anything at all, who knows. Regardless, it’s an interesting assertion that Iran does not have a right to defend itself. No one argues that Israel did not bomb the Iranian consulate in Syria, or did not assassinate a foreign dignitary on Iranian soil. The argument is simply that Jews are allowed to do whatever they want to you, and it is illegal to fight back.

This is the same argument made domestically in the United States and Europe, although in a different context. In Jewish-controlled countries, known as democracies, Jews are allowed to do whatever they want to the public, and even complaining about it is de facto banned.

The sanctions, which expose people to asset freezes and travel and visa bans, come as violence against Palestinians in the West Bank has exploded since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, following the deadly terrorist attacks of October 7th.

Palestinians report verbal and physical harassment, restriction of movement, and face intimidation by settlers circling their properties on motorbikes, cars or horses and spying via drones.

The group may prove difficult to effectively sanction, as it is loosely organized and decentralized. In addition, Israel’s finance minister has previously vowed to intervene on sanctioned settlers’ behalf.

In the past, sanctioned settlers have told the AP that the measures have had little impact on their finances.

Hilltop Youth has already faced sanctions from the EU and UK.

If he gets installed as president, he probably won’t be allowed to change any of the sanctions regimes.

How do you put more sanctions on Iran?

Iran is already sanctioned almost as much as Russia. Before the Ukraine invasion, they were the most sanctioned country in history.

This is like threatening a homosexual with gay sex. Or, it’s like some less offensive analogy, perhaps. Threatening a fat kid with a cake? Something along those lines.

Like “no, I don’t really want this, I’m not asking for it, but I have so much already, it doesn’t make a difference really.”

The other thing is that it’s demonstrably factual that sanctions have never accomplished any goal, so the whole thing is just performative. But who are they performing for? Either you don’t care at all about this, or you know that sanctions don’t do anything. I don’t think there’s a middle group that is really concerned about Iran nuking Israel that is also unaware that sanctions have never once done anything to stop any single country from doing anything.

So much of what happens these days looks like a public performance for a segment of the population that does not exist.

The US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, has announced fresh sanctions against Iran’s petroleum sector in response to what he described as an expansion of the country’s nuclear programme which has provoked renewed fears that it is preparing to build an atomic bomb.

The embargoes – on three unnamed entities involved in the transport of Iranian petroleum or petrochemical products – were announced amid a chorus of warnings of a renewed conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Iran’s proxy Hezbollah, the powerful Shia group that dominates Lebanon.

In a statement on Thursday, Blinken said Iran had expanded its uranium enrichment programme in the past month “in ways that have no credible peaceful purpose”.

Under the new sanctions, 11 vessels associated with the three embargoed organisations would be designated as “blocked property”.

“Iran’s actions to increase its enrichment capacity are all the more concerning in light of Iran’s continued failure to cooperate with the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] and statements by Iranian officials suggesting potential changes to Iran’s nuclear doctrine,” Blinken said.

He was referring to recent comments by Kamal Kharazzi, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that the country could revise its defence doctrine to permit the building of nuclear weapons following a series of military exchanges with Israel in April.

“We have no decision to build a nuclear bomb but should Iran’s existence be threatened, there will be no choice but to change our military doctrine,” Kharrazi said. “In the case of an attack on our nuclear facilities by the Zionist regime, our deterrence will change.”

These people in Iran have been supposed to build nukes for like, 30 years. They apparently haven’t done it yet. There are probably reasons they don’t do it. They have the technology. I think they don’t want the heat.

That said, the Jews are bringing the heat, so maybe it’s so hot, they’re like “okay, whatever, let’s just do the nukes.”
