Classes were canceled Wednesday at the University of Mobile after one of its basketball players collapsed and died on campus.

Kaiden Francis, 18, a 6-foot-2 freshman guard from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, collapsed Tuesday morning. He was found unresponsive shortly after he finished his weekly skills workout with the university’s coaching staff and trainers, said Kathy Dean, a spokesperson for the private, Christian-based university located in Mobile.

“Despite the quick and heroic efforts of students and medical professionals, Kaiden never recovered and passed away,” University of Mobile President Dr. Charles Smith said in a statement. “Our hearts are heavy as we process this tragedy.”

A cause of death has not been released. Dean said Francis recently passed “a battery of health screenings, including heart and lung evaluations.”

“None of these tests indicated health concerns,” she said. “Out of respect for the family, we have no plans to comment further at this time.”

Six former employees for the Bay Area Rapid Transit agency who lost their jobs when they did not get Covid vaccines for religious reasons have been awarded more than $1 million each, according to court documents related to a lawsuit the California workers filed.

A federal jury awarded the six ex-BART workers between $1.1 million and more than $1.5 million each, court records show.

The judgments were awarded Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

The Pacific Justice Institute law firm, which represents the plaintiffs, said in a Thursday statement that BART failed to prove an “undue hardship in denying any accommodations to the employees” who sought them based on religious reasons.

Los Angeles removed its Covid vax mandate for employees just a few months ago. Lots of places still have them, even today.

Kevin Snider, who served as lead attorney, said the workers didn’t compromise their religious convictions for their jobs.

“The rail employees chose to lose their livelihood rather than deny their faith,” he said in a statement. “That in itself shows the sincerity and depth of their convictions.”

One of the plaintiffs had worked for BART for more than 30 years, including a decade-long stretch with perfect attendance, their legal team said.

A representative of BART declined to comment Friday afternoon.

A class-action lawsuit filed in October 2022 said BART granted the vaccine religious exemption for some, but denied accommodations in every instance. Failing to provide accommodations, according to the lawsuit, violated California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act.

On October 14, 2021, BART issued a policy requiring all employees to be fully vaccinated against Covid as a condition of employment, the suit said.

Between then and February 2022, about 179 employees submitted requests for religious exemptions, and 70 were approved, the suit said. But none of the 70 who received an exemption were granted an accommodation, the suit said.

However, one in three BART employees seeking medical exemptions were granted an accommodation, according to the suit.

An 11-year-old boy collapsed and died while playing basketball at a Massachusetts youth club.

George-Levi Njuguna was playing basketball at the Dana Barros Center on Washington Street in Stoughton – located 20 miles outside of Boston – when he mysteriously collapsed and died around 8pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services quickly arrived on scene and found the young boy unresponsive, according to Boston 25 News. They used a defibrillator and attempted resuscitation, but were unsuccessful.

‘Unfortunately, the 11-year-old boy didn’t make it,’ Stoughton Fire Chief Michael Carroll said.

George, who played on the DB Gladiators team, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, where he was pronounced dead.

His cause of death is currently unknown. However, a large majority of sudden deaths in elementary and middle school athletes are cardiac-related, according to Boston 25 News.

However, Carroll said George had ‘no real cardiac issues historically’ and was a ‘normal, healthy child,’ according to Boston.com.

Angela rang 999 and got through to the ambulance. It was maybe a half an hour before they arrived. Roy did not improve in this time. Franklin had been running outdoors as the Nashville area was experiencing extreme heat, with three consecutive days of triple-digit temperatures Tuesday through Thursday. Pleasant View is located about 30 miles northwest of Nashville.

Mike Heslin, the actor best known for “Special Ops: Lioness,” has died. He was 30.

His husband, Scotty Dynamo, announced the tragic news on Instagram Saturday.

Dynamo said that Heslin died of “an unexpected cardiac event,” but that “doctors have no explanation for what happened.”

“On July 2nd, my husband, best friend, and soulmate @mikeheslin passed away from an unexpected cardiac event after a week long battle in the hospital,” Dynamo began his post.

“Michael was young, in perfect health, and the doctors have no explanation for what happened,” he added.

The recording artist called Heslin a “brilliant, selfless, talented, and a real-life guardian angel” and credited the late actor with helping him get through cancer.

“He truly was the sweetest, most caring, and loving man on earth, and he brought out the absolute best in everyone who had the pleasure to cross paths with him,” Dynamo wrote. “He moved through life with such ease and confidence, and turned everyone around him into a better version of themselves. No matter how difficult things got, we knew that there was nothing we couldn’t overcome with Mike in our corner.”

He continued: “Michael, meeting you was the best thing to ever happen to me. You are my world. You are everything to me. When I felt you take your last breath, my heart shattered into a million pieces. If I had the power to trade places with you, I would do it in an instant. But I will take it one day at a time like you always told me to, and live every day in your honor.”

Dynamo also revealed that the couple — who tied the knot in November 2023 — “were in the early stages of starting a family” before Heslin’s death.

“You were the most generous and giving person,” Dynamo added. “It brings me peace to know that, through your wish to be a donor, you have given the gift of life to four different families. I know that you are in a better place and that heaven has gained another angel.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to cover Heslin’s funeral and hospital costs. Over $58,000 has been raised as of Sunday.

Dazelle Peters, of New South Wales, died in hospital on Monday following a four-year long battle with leukemia, her father Josh confirmed in a post to social media.

“Just know that Dazelle knew how much you all loved her,” Peters wrote. “This kid was something special and you deserved better.”

Australian boxer George Kambosos Jr. was one of the many who posted heartfelt tributes to Peters on social media, praising her for the bravery she had exhibited in her fight against the disease.

“RIP beautiful Dazelle, my deepest condolences to her family, heaven gained a beautiful angel,” Kambosos wrote in a post to X. “Dazelle you’ll never be forgotten, an inspiration to everyone you ever met. God bless your parents, that where [sic] by your side when you finally spread your wings. Life can be cruel.”

Peters’ case made international headlines last year after it was revealed that she was being refused the double lung transplant needed to treat her blood cancer because she had refused to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

A spokesman for St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney previously stated that their “policies and guidelines wouldn’t support transplantation” of anyone who was unvaccinated. “Vaccination status against various infections is a critical part of this assessment in order to ensure optimal prospects of survival post-transplant.”

The teenager had been identified as a “potentially immunocompromised patient” after contracting a form of pneumonia. Her father claimed that a doctor had told them that by refusing to get vaccinated, she would be a “major threat to everyone [who was currently hospitalized] who had done the right thing” if she contracted COVID-19. “The way he made us feel was that they didn’t want to give her the lung transplant,” he said.

The hospital maintained that there were multiple factors that resulted in her being rejected for the transplant procedure, but did confirm that not wanting to take the vaccination was one of them. For the first time since its COVID-19 vaccine was rolled out, AstraZeneca has admitted that it can cause a rare side effect. In legal documents submitted to the United Kingdom High Court, the pharmaceutical giant accepted that its COVID-19 vaccine “can, in very rare cases, cause TTS”.

Here, TTS stands for Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome, which can cause people to have blood clots and a low blood platelet count.

The admittance, as per the Telegraph, could pave the way for a multi-million-pound legal payout.

AstraZeneca is facing class action suits over claims that its COVID-19 vaccine, developed in conjunction with Oxford, caused serious injury or death in dozens of cases.

The first case against the company was lodged by Jamie Scott, father of two, who was 44 when he received the vaccine. Ten days after the jab, Scott complained of tiredness and started vomiting. Soon after, his speech got impaired, and he had to be taken to the hospital, where physicians diagnosed him with a suspected case of Vaccine-induced Immune Thrombocytopenia and Thrombosis (VITT).
