Throwflame say the Thermonator is the first-ever flame-throwing quadruped robot dog.

The Ohio-based firm have announced the $9,420 bot is available for purchase by the general public and government agencies for the first time.

The Thermonator can be remotely operated by wifi or bluetooth to fire jets of fire up to 30ft.

A California robot creation, now in Texas, offers faster and cheaper manicures.

The Clockwork “Mini-cure” is a robot that uses 3D cameras to photograph a person’s nails. Afterwards, its artificial intelligence quickly paints them, KHOU 11 reported Monday.

According to Clockwork’s Chief Marketing Officer Mara McCune, it takes the robot 10 minutes to do the job, and the cost is under $10.

However, McCune claimed it was not a competition against traditional nail salons, because so many people wanted the extra services offered.

“There is a huge demand for people who still want to go to the salon, get pampered, get their nails shaped and filed and cuticles pushed back, and there’s a role for that,” McCune continued. “And we think we can live alongside them for a fast manicure. That is a different experience. And so we see us partnering with nail salons and really being able to live simultaneously.”

In 2018, Jack in the Box CEO Leonard Comma said “it just makes sense” to replace humans working in the food service industry with robots as the minimum wage rose, Breitbart News reported at the time:

Our bionic future may not be so far away after all. Researchers have recently created an electronic skin, or e-skin, that is self-healing and totally recyclable. As described in the journal Science Advances, a team of scientists have managed to develop a “malleable electronic skin enabled by dynamic covalent thermoset nanocomposite.” But all you really need to understand is that this thin film is able to fix itself when it’s torn or broken, which means that the electronics, prosthetics, or smart textiles of the future will be able to put themselves back together when we inadvertently mess them up.

The idea is to make electronics more environmentally friendly and reduce the amount of e-waste we create by throwing away devices that have cracked or otherwise been aesthetically damaged. Anytime the e-skin is cut in half or torn, the e-skin recreates chemical bonds between the two separated sides, restoring the matrix. And if you manage to rend the e-skin completely unusable, it can simply be placed in a solution that “liquifies” the material, thereby allowing it to be recycled into a brand new e-skin.

With this stuff covering an artificial arm, you’d actually get most of the old functionality back.

All these things combine to make extremely advanced robotics and cybernetics possible in the relatively near future. Strong, energy efficient limbs that can feel, controlled directly by the mind of the operator.

While this stuff is great for replacing lost limbs, the same technology can also be used in the field of manufacturing, in the military and all sorts of other things that’ll drastically reduce the need for human labor.

Two of the six teenage members of the Burundi robotics team who went missing from Washington this week have crossed into Canada and are safe, D.C. police said on Thursday.

Police said the teens from the small East African country were reported missing Wednesday. They were last seen about 5 p.m. Tuesday, shortly before the event closed around 6:30 p.m. In addition to Ingabire and Mwamikazi, Richard Irakoze, 18, Kevin Sabumukiza, 17, Nice Munezero, 17 and Aristide Irambona, 18, also were reported missing.

Police posted fliers of the missing teens on the department’s Twitter account. FIRST Global issued a statement on Wednesday saying an adult mentor could not find the team members.

A spokesman for the group, Jose P. Escotto, said on Thursday that he could not confirm that authorities had located the teens. “We haven’t been informed of anything,” he said at 10:30 a.m.

Growing concerns about how artificial intelligence (AI) makes decisions has inspired U.S. researchers to make computers explain their “thinking.”

“Computers are going to become increasingly important parts of our lives, if they aren’t already, and the automation is just going to improve over time, so it’s increasingly important to know why these complicated systems are making the decisions that they are,” assistant professor of computer science at the University of California Irvine, Sameer Singh, told CTV’s Your Morning on Tuesday.

Singh explained that, in almost every application of machine learning and AI, there are cases where the computers do something completely unexpected.

“Sometimes it’s a good thing, it’s doing something much smarter than we realize,” he said. “But sometimes it’s picking up on things that it shouldn’t.”

Such was the case with the Microsoft AI chatbot, Tay, which became racist in less than a day. Another high-profile incident occurred in 2015, when Google’s photo app mistakenly labelled a black couple as gorillas.

Singh says incidents like that can happen because the data AI learns from is based on humans; either decisions humans made in the past or basic social-economic structures that appear in the data.

“When machine learning models use that data they tend to inherit those biases,” said Singh.

“In fact, it can get much worse where if the AI agents are part of a loop where they’re making decisions, even the future data, the biases get reinforced,” he added.

Researchers hope that, by seeing the thought process of the computers, they can make sure AI doesn’t pick up any gender or racial biases that humans have.

Good luck with that, Singh.

Enter Miso Robotics. The southern California start-up has built a robotic “kitchen assistant” called Flippy to do the hot, greasy and repetitive work of a fry cook. Flippy employs machine learning and computer vision to identify patties on a grill, track them as they cook, flip and then place them on a bun when they’re done.

Miso is part of a budding kitchen automation industry. Its peers include Zume Pizza, Cafe X, Makr Shakr, Frobot and Sally, which are developing robots to help commercial kitchens churn out pizzas, lattes, cocktails, frozen yogurt, and salads.

In a recent CNBC interview, Yum Brands CEO Greg Creed predicted robots would replace fast food workers by the mid-2020s. It’s not as if workers love those jobs.

Employee turnover in the restaurants and accommodations sector was 73 percent in 2016, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Fry cooks, the people who flip burgers (or fillets) all day at a hot grill, move on from the job faster than others in the field.

They’ve already got burger-flipping robots.

There’s even a robotic pizza restaurant.

McDonald’s is already adopting automated kiosk ordering systems.

This type of technology is only going to get cheaper. Eventually it will become a commodity sort of like what we’ve seen with computers and smart phones.

Demands from the Bernie Sanders crowd for a $15 an hour minimum wage have only sped up the adoption of this technology. They’re basically asking the government to mandate a wage that is above and beyond what the job is really worth. This means that restaurants will scale back on their hiring and look towards automation to keep their businesses solvent.

We are going to see this trend continue in other industries as well. The need for cheap labor to perform repetitive and mundane tasks is eventually going to disappear. All that will be needed are intelligent White men to manage, maintain and update these advanced systems.

This will effectively eliminate the single excuse we’ve been given to justify the presence of these third world populations in our countries. Futurism will make these people totally and completely irrelevant.
