An indictment has been served on Darian Atkinson, the Biloxi teenager charged with capital murder in the killing of Biloxi Police Officer Robert McKeithen.

Authorities served the indictment to the 19-year-old whose been jailed without bond since his arrest May 6th.

Atkinson’s accused of shooting and killing Officer McKeithen at point-blank range.

A date hasn’t been set for Atkinson’s arraignment.

Five others, including two of Atkinson’s brothers, were arrested on charges of accessory after the fact to capital murder for allegedly helping Atkinson escape arrest in the hours after the shooting.

The 19-year-old who was the subject of a statewide manhunt in the killing of a Gulf Coast police officer has been charged with capital murder, the city’s police chief said Monday afternoon.

The manhunt for Darian Tawan Atkinson of Biloxi in the Sunday night shooting death of Biloxi Police Officer Robert McKeithen ended Monday night, according to Biloxi Police Chief John Miller.

“It’s been a long couple of days,” Miller said after Atkinson’s capture in Wiggins, Mississippi.

Earlier in the day, Miller said Atkinson should have been considered armed and dangerous. Miller said authorities were worried that he may try to kill another officer.

“This guy’s dangerous, and there’s no reason for us to believe that he would just target a policeman,” Miller said.

The chief added that the department would not rest until Atkinson is brought to justice.

“He is a genuine threat to this community and I can promise you if we find somebody that is assisting him — we want to bring him to justice and if there is somebody or a group that is causing us not to bee able to do it they will answer for their sins.”

McKeithen, a 24-year veteran of the department, was killed around 10 p.m. Sunday after being approached in a parking lot and shot multiple times.
