Investigators in the Florida Panhandle are looking into the deaths of a woman and her two adult sons as a ritualistic killing that could be connected to the recent blue moon.

Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan said they’ve identified a person of interest in the July 28 deaths of 77-year-old Voncile Smith, 49-year-old Richard Smith and 47-year-old John Smith.

“Initial research had led us to believe it was a ritualistic killing,” Morgan said Tuesday.

Asked to elaborate, Morgan said, “The method of the murder — blunt force trauma … positioning of the bodies — and our person of interest has some ties to a faith or religion that is indicative of that. The time of death on Tuesday also coincides with what’s referred to as a blue moon, which occurs every three years.”

All three victims were struck multiple times with a claw hammer and had their throats slit, and Richard Smith also had a gunshot to his right ear, Morgan said.

The bodies were discovered Friday in their Pensacola-area home. But investigators believe the Smiths were killed about 7 p.m. on July 28.

The blue moon, a rare second full moon in a single month, occurred on Friday, July 31, three days after the killings. The sheriff did not explain the discrepancy and his office did not return a telephone call seeking clarification.

Two brothers are alleged to have asked a witch to beat their mother to death in a ritual sacrifice to bring them good luck.

The brothers were among ten people arrested for the murder of Budhabai Dore, 65, after she was found in a shallow grave in Nashik, Maharashtra, India.

The occultist is alleged to have gouged out Ms Dore’s eyes and buried her nearby. Their sister, who was also to be sacrificed, managed to escape with her life.

Human sacrifice has been taboo in mainstream Hindu culture for many hundreds of years, but certain tantric cults and minority religions from the subcontinent remain notorious for the practice.

The incident, alleged to have taken place around the Diwali festival in late October, only came to light a few days ago after a local social worker contacted police.

Police said the brothers travelled to a remote village to consult occultist Bachchi-bai Narayan Khadke, 42, for help after suffering a run of bad luck.

District superintendent of police Sanjay Mohite told the Times Of India: ‘Govind Pona Dore and his brother Kashinath had contacted with Khadke, who was suspected of practising black magic, and her assistant Bugabai Mahadu Veer of Takay Harsh village.

‘The suspected tantric had told the two brothers they needed to exorcise the ghosts.’

They took both women to Khadke, while the occultist’s assistant, Bugabai Mahadu Veer, also brought along her 80-year-old relative, Kashibai Veer, to take part in the ritual.

The brothers are then alleged to have joined the occultist and her assistant in a savage beating of both women and their sister, Rahibai Pingle, who ironically had originally referred them to Khadke.

The attacks continued over several days, police said, during which the victims were also stripped naked and starved of food.

Zee News reports that Khadke gouged out Ms Dore’s eyes before killing her.

Ms Dore and Ms Veer are believed to have died sometime between October 30 and October 31.

Ms Pingle was able to get away, but her injuries were so bad her brothers assumed she had died and did not bother trying to find her.

A Satanic cult has been blamed for the sickening death of a pony, which was found horrifically mutilated and laying in the remnants of a ring of fire after full moon.

Police are investigating after the young male had its genitals, right ear and tongue sliced off, and eyes gouged out. It is thought the animal may have been alive when the atrocities were committed.

Its belly was hacked open and the young pony also had traces of white paint on one of its legs, suggesting it was killed as part of a bizarre ceremony.

It was also surrounded by circular patches of burnt moorland, which experts believe were left by a ring of torches or candles.

The two-month old pony seemed to have been dragged into a clearing and placed at the foot of a slope to face the previous night’s full moon.

It was found on Tuesday morning by a horse rider at Yennadon Down, a remote, area of Devon National Park.

Animal welfare officers are investigating and police have appealed to the public to be extra vigilant.

Horse carers believe the butchery was part of an evil occult or Pagan ceremony by Devil worshippers.

Dartmoor’s Livestock Protection Officer Karla McKechnie said: ‘We do get strange things happening from time to time, normally when its a full moon.

‘I’ve come across strange circles in the ground, boulders used as altars, that sort of thing, but thankfully animal mutilations are rare.

‘I suspect its witches or devil worshippers but it’s always hard to get to the bottom of it.

‘My main concern is how someone has been able to walk up to a foal and kill it in the middle of the night.I’m almost certain more than one person was involved.’

South West Equine Protection’s Jenny Thornton believed Dartmoor ponies had become so used to being fed by humans they were now easy targets.

She said: ‘I’ve seen plenty of dead animals but this was horrendous.
