Italian 2016 Olympic champion foil fencer Daniele Garozzo on Tuesday said he was retiring saying he had a damaged heart.

Acireale-born Garozzo, 31, posted a photo of himself with his Rio gold medal and his Tokyo 2020 silver saying “My heart has been injured”.

“The time has come to announce my retirement from competitive activity,” Garozzo announced on Instagram, pulling out of the Paris 2024 Games.

The Jewish president of the Rio 2016 Olympic Committee was arrested amid an investigation into a vote-buying scheme to bring the Olympic Games to South America for the first time.

Carlos Arthur Nuzman, who also is the president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee and an honorary International Olympic Committee member, would be a central figure in channeling $2 million to Lamine Diack, a former IOC member from Senegal who helped secure votes when Rio was picked as the venue by the IOC in 2009. Nuzman was arrested Thursday on charges of corruption, money laundering and participating in a criminal operation.

Three of the top officials of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee were Jewish. Leonardo Gryner, former chief operating officer, also was arrested Thursday on the same charges. CEO Sidney Levy, who managed a $2.2 billion budget, was Nuzman’s other deputy and is not under suspicion.

Brazilian authorities have said the behind-the-scenes dealings to win the vote amounted to a “criminal organization” led by Sergio Cabral, the former governor of Rio de Janeiro who has been jailed on a different corruption conviction.

Nuzman, 75, has tried to hamper the investigation by regularizing assets allegedly gained with illicit money, adjusting the amount of earned income on his tax returns by $600,000 since first being questioned by police last month.

The Brazilian authorities have kidnapped two American swimmers who were robbed at gunpoint in the country, claiming that they made the incident up for the purpose of making Brazil look bad.

Seriously, that is something which is happening.

Many liberal news outlets are actually joining in the conspiracy theory.

Including, to some extent, The New York Times, which is setting the narrative here:

Two American swimmers were pulled off their flight to the United States by the Brazilian authorities and detained for several hours on Wednesday night, Olympic officials said. It was the latest indication that the police were skeptical of the swimmers’ claims that they had been held up at gunpoint during the Rio Games.

“We can confirm that Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz were removed from their flight to the United States by Brazilian authorities,” a spokesman for the United States Olympic Committee said. “We are gathering further information.”

The men were released after agreeing to remain in the country and to speak with investigators about the episode on Thursday, according to officials with the United States Olympic team.

In a case that has made headlines around the world, the gold medalist Ryan Lochte said that after leaving a party early Sunday, he, Mr. Conger, Mr. Bentz and one other American swimmer were robbed by men claiming to be police officers.

The idea that such prominent athletes could be robbed by officers during the Olympics was a huge embarrassment for Brazil, underscoring longstanding concerns about holding the Games in a crime-plagued city like Rio de Janeiro.

But questions about the Americans’ testimony to the police turned that embarrassment into anger, with many Brazilians wondering whether the athletes had lied about the episode and smeared their country’s reputation.

In a conversation on Wednesday with NBC’s Matt Lauer, Mr. Lochte — who has already returned to the United States — changed certain details of his account. After previously saying that an assailant had put a gun against his forehead, he said that the gun had been aimed in his “general direction.”

Mr. Lochte had also previously said that the swimmers had been robbed after the men identifying themselves as police officers pulled over their taxi. On Wednesday, however, he told NBC that the taxi had stopped at a gas station so they could use the bathroom.

Mr. Lochte went on to say that the swimmers had been robbed upon returning to the taxi. He ascribed the inconsistencies to “traumatic mischaracterization” caused by stress. Mr. Lochte emphasized to Mr. Lauer that he considered himself as a victim.

Neither of these “discrepancies” are actually even discrepancies. They are just changes in language, changes in the way they said something as they added details.

Hours after the swimmers were removed from the plane, it was unclear where they were being held. When asked if United States Olympic officials knew where the American swimmers were, the U.S.O.C. spokesman, Patrick Sandusky, said, “At this point we are gathering details and have no further comment.”

Brazilian law enforcement officials have kept American diplomatic and law enforcement officials at arm’s length as they have moved forward with their investigation, according to senior American officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they did not want to be identified discussing a continuing Brazilian investigation.

Earlier Wednesday, a Brazilian judge issued an order to prevent Mr. Lochte, a 12-time Olympic medalist, and Jimmy Feigen, the fourth swimmer involved, from leaving the country as doubts emerged about their statements.

Mr. Sandusky declined to comment when asked why United States Olympics officials had allowed Mr. Conger and Mr. Bentz to board a plane leaving Brazil despite the continuing investigation.

Agents from Brazil’s Federal Police, an investigative force that oversees the country’s borders, detained Mr. Conger and Mr. Bentz at Rio de Janeiro’s main international airport, according to local news reports. Investigators from Rio’s Tourism Police had asked for their passports to be seized so they could be questioned.

Shortly after they were removed from the plane, the two men were shown on the Globo television network being escorted to a police station in the airport. They declined to talk to a television reporter at the entrance to the station.

Investigators have not found evidence corroborating the swimmers’ account, according to local news reports, prompting the judge’s order to seize their passports.

“You can see the supposed victims arriving without signs of being physically or psychologically shaken, even joking amongst themselves,” Judge Keyla Blanc de Cnop said in a statement, referring to video of the swimmers returning to the Olympic Village after the party.

The Brazilian authorities have come under scrutiny after a number of armed assaults during the Games, despite the deployment of an 85,000-member security force to ease fears about violent crime.

Mr. Sandusky said that the police had looked for the two swimmers on Wednesday, but that the athletes were no longer at the Olympic Village.

“The swim team moved out of the village after their competition ended, so we were not able to make the athletes available,” Mr. Sandusky said. He added that the Olympic Committee’s security protocol prevented him from confirming the athletes’ current locations.

Mr. Lochte’s lawyer, Jeff Ostrow, denied assertions that his client and the other swimmers might have fabricated details of their accounts, describing such claims as efforts by Brazilian officials to deflect criticism of problems in Rio.

“The country has a dark cloud over it for a million and one reasons, from their economy to their crime to their management of the Olympics,” said Mr. Ostrow, who is based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. “My client has cooperated thoroughly with the Brazilian authorities and stands behind his statement.”

And then the NYT begins to subtly endorse the conspiracy theory.

Still, there was growing speculation in Brazil that the episode might not have unfolded as the swimmers described it.

Mr. Lochte told NBC’s “Today” show that men had drawn guns and that one of them had taken his money and wallet, but left his cellphone and credentials.

No professional thief would steal a cellphone or ID cards.

I got robbed by a dumb Black guy with a knife a few years back and he took my money out of my wallet and threw the wallet.

He also told USA Today that the swimmers did not initially tell the United States Olympic Committee about what had happened “because we were afraid we’d get into trouble.”

Presumably, because they were high on cocaine, which would be a pretty normal thing to do partying in Brazil while celebrating a successful Olympics performance.

Mr. Lochte and Mr. Feigen told Brazilian investigators that they left the party at Club France, which was set up to promote the country during the Games, around 4 a.m. Sunday, according to local news reports.

But video cameras showed the swimmers leaving the club at 5:50 a.m., about an hour before they arrived at the Olympic Village at 6:56 a.m., according to Extra, a Rio newspaper.

There are other points of confusion in the accounts by Mr. Lochte and Mr. Feigen, the only swimmers who provided testimony to Brazilian investigators.

The men, who said they had been intoxicated upon leaving the party, said they could not remember the color of the taxi they took, or where exactly the assault had taken place. Investigators have been unable to find the taxi driver who delivered the swimmers back to the village.

A prosecutor in Rio, André Buonora, said in a statement that the swimmers could face charges of providing false testimony if they had lied to investigators.

Despite the controversy, it is not uncommon for the police in Rio to be implicated in armed assaults.

Shortly before the Olympics, Jason Lee, a jujitsu champion from New Zealand, said that he had been briefly kidnapped by police officers and forced to withdraw about $800 from his bank account.

Despite a history of such episodes in Rio, many Brazilians have grown defensive over criticism of the city. Some lashed out at the American swimmers, contending that they were hiding something.

Other liberal outlets are going much more full-on in their support of the theory.

Namibian boxer Jonas Junius has been arrested on suspicion of a sexual assault in the Olympic Village, Rio police have confirmed.

Junius, a light-welterweight who was due to fight Hassan Amzile in the first round on Thursday, has been detained after allegedly attempting to grab and kiss a maid

The alleged incident took place on Monday night and Junius, Namibia’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Olympics on Friday night, was taken to the nearest police station in Recreio for questioning.

A statement on the Rio civil police’s official website said: “Recreio police said yesterday, August 7, that Jonas Junius was arrested.

“Jonas tried to grab and kiss a maid who managed to extricate herself. The incident occurred on the 11th floor of the hall in building two of the Olympic Village.”

The International Boxing Association (AIBA), amateur boxing’s world governing body, is aware of the incident.

A spokesman for AIBA said: “AIBA has taken note of the serious allegations towards a Namibian boxer who was due to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

If charged, the suspect will be detained in Bangu prison, where Moroccan Hassan Saada has been held since Friday.

The Moroccan also attempted to rape some maids.

In funnier news, the US women’s soccer team was met with anti-gay chants.

It wasn’t just cheers that greeted several Olympic women’s soccer tournament players at the opening matches in Rio de Janeiro last week, but also blatant homophobia.

Three members of the U.S. Women’s National Team said a number of Brazilian spectators told them that fans were chanting “Zika,” a mocking reference to the viral pandemic, as well as “bicha,” which is apparently an anti-gay slur comparable to “faggot” and used toward men, the Los Angeles Times reports. The chant was allegedly heard during the U.S. team’s Aug. 3 victory over New Zealand, as well as the Australia vs. Canada match that same day.

The use of the slur is particularly distressing given the number of out players on those teams. U.S. midfielder Megan Rapinoe came out as a lesbian in 2012 in an Out magazine interview, while four players in the Australia vs. Canada match, including goalie Stephanie Labbé, have also publicly identified as LGBT, Outsports reports. Jill Ellis, who coaches the U.S. team, is also a lesbian.

Tragic French gymnast Samir Ait Said suffered further indignity after his devastating leg injury on Saturday – Olympics staffers dropped his stretcher as they were loading him into an ambulance.

A worldwide audience was horrified when Ait Said’s left leg snapped as he landed a vault during the men’s qualifying competition, with the lower half of his shin dangling grotesquely after the bone audibly snapped.

His ordeal took another bad turn follow minutes later when he was removed from the auditorium to be rushed to a Rio hospital, where he remained late Saturday. As staff moved the 26-year-old’s stretcher towards the edge of the ambulance floor, they appeared to lose control, sending it falling heavily to the floor.

While Ait Said was little known in the United States before the incident that earned him the sympathy of millions, he is a popular figure in his homeland.

At least with a broken leg, Ait Said won’t be able to sexually assault the maids!

A Moroccan boxer has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to rape two chambermaids in the Olympic Village in Brazil.

Hassan Saada was detained by police this morning over claims he attempted to sexually assault the two women in the athletes’ accommodation at Barra de Tijuca.

The 22-year-old athlete will miss out of competing in the games following allegations that he sexually assaulting two Brazilian domestic maids at the Olympic Village.

Saada, a light heavyweight boxer, was taken to a police station close the Olympic Stadium where he was stripped of his Olympic competitor status.

Detective Caroline Solomon of Recreio Police confirmed the athlete has been stripped of his credentials.

Solomon said officers are doing forensic examinations and other athletes will be questioned as part of their investigations.

According to Solomon, the boxer, who is married, was sharing the room with other athletes.

Both women were ‘frightened and angry’ Solomon said.

She said the penalty, if convicted, is between six and 10 years.

He will be transferred later today to a remand prison in the Polinter district of Rio de Janeiro where he will formally questioned about the allegations.

Investigating judge Larissa Nunes Saly has ruled the athlete will be held in custody for 15 days while police investigate the allegations against him.

According to Rio Police Saada is accused of attacking the two maids on Tuesday morning.

Police say he invited one of the women to pose for a selfie with him and he asked her if she had a profile on social media.

Then he pushed the woman up against the wall and tried to kiss her, it is claimed.

He is also accused of sexually assaulting the second woman by groping her breasts and made sexually-graphic gestures towards the maid and offered her money to perform a sex act upon him.

Judge Nunes Saly has formally contacted the Moroccan Ambassador about the allegations.

She told O Globo newspaper: ‘It has been necessary to arrest Hassan Saada to investigate the allegations against him. If he was at liberty there would be a risk that he could interfere with witnesses. And there is a risk that Hassan Saada could reoffend.’

The judge said Brazilian laws apply to everyone – Brazilians and visitors alike. Everyone must obey the law.

We’re also dealing with a large spike in criminality coming along with the police protests over their unpaid wages.

In effect, Brazil is a country in the middle of a political corruption crisis, as well as a health and economic crisis. Nothing there is functioning normally, and it’s unclear there would be any authority in place that could react and take charge if things where to get any worse during the Olympics.

Foreign businesses operating in Rio are providing extensive armed escorts for their employees. I wonder if the tourists will get the same?

The selection of Michael Phelps, as decided by athlete vote, is certainly a good one. He is the greatest Olympian of all time, not only synonymous with his sport but someone who has lifted swimming in an unprecedented way. The fact that Phelps is so familiar to all audiences is a tribute to how hard he’s worked and how much he’s accomplished. He is a legendary American.

Wow, Jew, nice praise. I’m really impressed you can recognize this goy’s merit.

But nothing someone says before the word “but” really counts, does it?

But the choice of flag bearer is an opportunity to say, “This is who we are.” Everyone around the world knows Phelps is who we are. But not everyone knows the stories of some of the other candidates, and why they are so meaningful. Not everyone knows the story of Ibtihaj Muhammad.

This is what America is all about, goyim.

Muhammad, raised by a police officer and a teacher, is a fencer who went to Duke, where she got degrees in African and African-American Studies and International Relations. She is also a devout Muslim. She will become the first American Olympian woman to compete in a hijab.

“Why aren’t we putting our military retirees on that border or in TSA?” she asked. “Get rid of all these hebee-jabis they wear at TSA. I’ve seen them myself. We need the veterans back in there to — they’ve fought for this country and defended it, they’ll still do it.”

America sure is a racist place, isn’t it? In order to fix this, we need to strip Mike Phelps of his honors and give them to some obscure Negress who probably hates us.

Many Muslims have died for our country, and that was made powerfully clear in Khizr Khan’s speech at the Democratic National Convention. He is a Gold Star parent, as his son gave his life defending the U.S. in Iraq in 2004. The media has focused on what Khan’s speech means for the upcoming election, but Khan’s turn in the spotlight has brought more attention to the complex meaning of being Muslim in America. So did Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s speech. So did the national reflection on the passing of Muhammad Ali.

6,000 Moslems in the military, you say? Wow. Actually, let’s do some quick math.

Since Moslems are around 1% of the US population, you’d expect them to be 1% of the military, right? The various branches of the military (active and reserves) total 2,247,995 people, according to Wikipedia.

So that means Moslems constitute a measly 0.27% of the Military. They’re woefully under represented. So much for their patriotism.

Wonderful patriotic Moslems fighting for America.

This is just another Jew push to strip us of our heroes and champions and continue the process of demoralizing Whites completely.

The Olympics were originally strictly reserved for Greeks. They were an almost religious festival of enormous importance.
