The US Supreme Court is hearing the case of a Christian web designer from Colorado who claims a constitutional right not to work on projects promoting same-sex marriage. The ruling could finally determine whether civil rights law trumps Americans’ right to free speech.

The case, heard on Monday, began several years ago when web designer Lorie Smith sought to offer her customers bespoke wedding-related websites and graphics, according to a brief filed by her lawyers.

The brief noted that while Smith “will work with clients regardless of race, creed, sexual orientation, or gender,” she is a devout Christian and will refuse commissions that clash with her religious beliefs. She wrote a message on her website explaining that she would only create custom sites celebrating heterosexual marriage, as to do otherwise would “tell a story about marriage that contradicts God’s true story of marriage.”

Under Colorado’s 2015 Anti-Discrimination Act, Smith was forbidden from posting this message, prompting her to sue the state in 2016. Her lawyers argue that the state law violated her right to free speech and free exercise of religion, both of which are protected by the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

As such, a ruling in favor of Smith could lead to similar anti-discrimination laws being struck down in future cases. The court’s nine justices have agreed to rule on whether “applying a public-accommodation law to compel an artist to speak or stay silent violates the free speech clause of the First Amendment.”

At the core of the case is what constitutes speech. An appeals court has already decided that Smith’s work is technically “speech,” but ruled against her regardless, declaring that artists offer such an exclusive set of skills that the state has an interest in compelling them to serve everyone.

Frankly, the law does say that there is no such thing as freedom of association, and in order to change that, the court would have to declare the Civil Rights Act to be unconstitutional.

I seriously doubt they’re going to do that.

Until they do that, you have to bake the anal cake and make the anal website, because gays are the same thing as black people.

A Georgia couple has been charged with using their two adopted children to record child pornography, police said.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office raided a home in Loganville July 27 on reports that a man there was downloading child porn.

After interviewing the suspect, who was not identified, police said they learned there was another suspect in the county who was “producing homemade child sexual abuse material with at least one child who lived in the home,” the sheriff’s office said Thursday.

Around 11:30 p.m. that same night, executed a search warrant in Oxford at the home of William Dale Zulock, 32, and Zachary Jacoby Zulock, 35.

Walton County’s Division of Family and Child Services joined deputies in responding to the home to help protect the two brothers who lived there.

During their search, deputies found evidence the pair, who were the children’s adoptive fathers, “were engaging in sexually abusive acts and video documenting this abuse,” the sheriff’s office said.

Early the next morning, the Zulocks were both booked at the Walton County Jail.

Instead of thinking of the children who were molested, who don’t even matter in the scheme of things, we need to think about all of the homosexuals that adopt children, and how to protect them.

A New York man was sentenced to 30 months in prison by a federal judge on Wednesday after he admitted to mailing threats to shoot, bomb, or otherwise attack LGBTQ groups and Pride Month events.

Robert Fehring, 74, was arrested in December and subsequently pleaded guilty in February as part of a deal with prosecutors to one count of mailing threatening communications. For eight years, the retired high school teacher had sent at least 60 anonymous letters to individuals and government officials in which he threatened to kill LGBTQ people.

“The defendant has a First Amendment right to hold bigoted beliefs; he does not have a right to threaten people based on his bigoted beliefs,” prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memo. “It is now time for the defendant to face the consequences of his hate-filled conduct.”

Beginning in 2013, Fehring began typing and mailing the threatening letters to people on Long Island and Manhattan. In one, he suggested a Pride parade in the town of Huntington would meet the same fate as the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. In others, he threatened to plant explosives on a ferry taking people to Fire Island or to bomb establishments that hosted Pride events.

In 2021, he mailed threats to the owners of New York City’s Stonewall Inn, the bar that served as the cradle of the LGBTQ rights movement. “ALL OF YOU SHOULD BE SHOT, HUNG, EXTERMINATED,” he wrote. “WE WILL BLOW UP/BURN YOUR ESTABLISHMENTS DOWN. WE WILL SHOOT THOSE WHO FREQUENT YOUR DENS OF FILTH, SHIT, SCUM AND PERVERSION . . . JUST A MATTER OF TIME. PLEASE . . . CATCH AIDS AND DIE . . . JUST FUCKING DIE!!”

He also said he would plant remote-controlled explosives along the parade route for the city’s Pride parade. “THIS WILL MAKE THE 2016 ORLANDO PULSE NIGHTCLUB SHOOTING LOOK LIKE A CAKEWALK,” he wrote.

When FBI agents searched Fehring’s home in November, they discovered copies of the letters, 20 pride flags that had been stolen from the Long Island town of Sayville, two loaded shotguns, nearly 400 rounds of ammunition, two stun guns, and a stamped envelope containing the remains of a dead bird he had intended to send an attorney who had worked on LGBTQ civil rights cases.

Is that 400 shotgun shells? Not exactly an arsenal.

Anyway, with the dead bird, and the unhinged nature of his writing, and the fact that he thought he could get away with this in the first place – he is clearly deeply disturbed by what the “anal community” is up to in this country, and was going off the edge. A UN report released Wednesday on widespread human rights violations in the Islamic Republic of Iran contains shocking findings that the theocratic state imposed electric torture on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender children.

The UN Special Rapporteur for the Islamic Republic of Iran, Javaid Rehman, wrote that he is “concerned at reports that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender children were subjected to electric shocks and the administration of hormones and strong psychoactive medications. These practices amount to torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, and violate the State’s obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.”

Peter Tatchell, a British LGBTQ+ and human rights campaigner, told The Jerusalem Post that “It is a shocking revelation that the Iranian regime subjects LGBT+ children to electric shocks, hormone treatments and psychoactive medications in a bid to ‘cure’ their sexual orientation & gender identity. These abuses echo anti-LGBT+ medical treatments by the Nazis and other fascist regimes.”

He added that “Javaid Rehman rightly condemns these abuses as a form of torture and in violation of international human rights law. Iran should be expelled from international medical associations and conferences.”

Tatchell said the “The UN Special Rapporteur has issued a damning report that confirms systemic persecution of women, LGBTs, human rights defenders, regime critics, trade unionists and ethnic and religious minorities.”

According to the report, “The Special Rapporteur regrets that individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender experience human rights violations and widespread discrimination. Senior officials describe the community in hateful terms, including by labelling individuals as ‘subhuman’ and ‘diseased.”’

He added that “The death penalty can be imposed for consensual sexual activity between members of the same sex in the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

A St. Louis County police sergeant who claimed he was told to “tone down his gayness” if he wanted to be promoted has reportedly been awarded nearly $19 million.

Sgt. Keith Wildhaber filed a discrimination suit against the police department in 2017, claiming that he was passed over for promotions because he is gay.

A jury on Friday awarded $1.9 million in actual damages and $10 million in punitive damages for discrimination, and $990,000 in actual damages and $7 million in punitive damages for retaliation after a weeklong trial, NBC affiliate KSDK of St. Louis reported.

Wildhaber joined the department in 1994. He previously served four years in the armed forces.

“We wanted to send a message,” the jury foreman, who was not identified, told reporters, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper. “If you discriminate, you are going to pay a big price. … You can’t defend the indefensible.”

County Counselor Beth Orwick told the newspaper Friday that the county was exploring its legal options.

“We are ecstatic for our client,” lawyers for Wildhaber said after the jury’s decision, which they called a “historic verdict,” according to KSDK.

“His bravery and courage in standing up for what is right should be an inspiration for employees everywhere. Justice was served in this trial, and no client could be more deserving than Keith. The jury acted as the conscience of the community and spoke loud and clear in its verdict,” his attorneys said in the statement.

Leadership changes would be coming to the county police department as a result of the verdict, St. Louis County Executive Sam Page said Sunday, according to the station. He said in a statement on Twitter that those changes will include the appointment of new members to the police board, which oversees the police chief.

The Boy Scouts of America are continuing to cover-up a “pedophilia epidemic within their organization,” a group of lawyers alleged Tuesday in a new lawsuit.

The Abused in Scouting lawyers said they’ve identified 350 previously unknown scoutmasters and volunteers who allegedly preyed on boys — and whose names were not known to law enforcement or in the BSA’s internal database, which critics have called “perversion files.”

“You can’t look at these files and not come to the conclusion that this was a massive problem that was hidden,” attorney Tim Kosnoff said at a press conference.

“We know that when a pedophile abuses a victim, it’s not just one,” added attorney Stewart Eisenberg. “So each of the 350 abusers have dozens of other victims who have not come forward.”

The revelation that the lawyers had identified a small army who they claim are previously unknown scout sex abusers was contained in the lawsuit filed Monday in Philadelphia by a Pennsylvania man identified only as “J.D.” who claims he was assaulted “hundreds” of times over a span of four years in the 1970s.

J.D., who lives in Wilkes-Barre, identified his attacker in the lawsuit as Paul Antosh, who also lives in the Pennsylvania city.

“I just heard about this lawsuit,” Antosh, 62, told NBC News when reached by phone at the Poconos motel he manages.

Asked if the allegations are true, Antosh said, “I’m in the process of hiring counsel.”

The complaint also names the Boy Scouts and the Penn Mountains Council.

“BSA knew for decades that sexual predators of boys had infiltrated scouting,” the complaint states.

In response to questions from NBC News, the BSA said it was reviewing the spread sheet the Abused in Scouting lawyers sent them and “continuing to manually search paper records at the local level to see if we can identify more information about the additional alleged perpetrators identified in the plaintiff’s attorneys list.”

“We immediately investigated the limited information provided and our efforts have already resulted in approximately 120 reports to the lead law enforcement agency in each state with an accusation of abuse,” the BSA said in emailed response. “We have also contacted local law enforcement for all the cases in which enough information was provided to identify the correct agency.”

In a quick review of the Abused in Scouting lawyers’ spread sheet, NBC News found that at least half-a-dozen former scout leaders had been previously unmasked as predators and were listed in the BSA’s so-called perversion files.

NBC News also asked the BSA whether Antosh was still involved in scouting. There was no immediate response to that question from the scouting organization.

The BSA, which has been hit with a raft of lawsuits by former scouts who said they were victimized, has acknowledged that it has maintained “ineligible volunteer files” since the 1920s that contained the names of alleged predators.

A panic caused by a mistaken belief that a gun had been fired during a pride parade in Washington, D.C., sent people running through the streets of the nation’s capital on Saturday evening, city officials said. Police said some of the people who ran sustained minor injuries and seven were taken to hospitals.

“As the officers were going to the scene, there was a crowd of people going away from it and some of the individuals in the crowd said there was a man with a gun and that someone had fired a shot,” said Guillermo Rivera, a commander with the Metropolitan Police Department.

The man was taken into custody and is facing a gun possession charge, Rivera said.

City officials said no shots were fired.
