Michael Cassidy has been charged with a hate crime for beheading a statue of Satan at the Iowa Capitol. Cassidy drove up to Iowa after the Satanic display was erected in the state capitol and took it down. He will be arraigned on February 15.

Polk County prosecutors charged Cassidy with felony third-degree criminal mischief, saying that he acted “in violation of individual rights” under Iowa’s hate crime statue, the Des Moines Register reports.

Cassidy had been charged with a misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal mischief the day after the beheading but had been informed that he may be liable for further charges.

Spokesman for the Polk County Attorney’s Office Lynn Hicks said that “Evidence shows the defendant made statements to law enforcement and the public indicating he destroyed the property because of the victim’s religion.” This is what resulted in the hate crimes charge.

Hicks further elaborated on how much it would cost to replace the statue of Baphoment constructed by the Satanic Temple, which would be between $750 and $1,500. The extremely litigious Satanic Temple had filed their own damage estimate, saying that it would be $3,000 to replace the statue.

Cassidy, a former military officer who ran for Congress, pushed over and decapitated the statue of Baphomet, which had been put up by members of the Satanic Temple of Iowa. The Satanic Temple had been given permission for the display. Cassidy discarded the head of Baphomet in the trash.

It’s in the Constitution that you have to worship Satan. Or, at least, that’s what an army of Jew lawyers said, and I’ve never known them to lie about anything.

A fugitive wanted for the murder of a Frostproof woman was arrested Saturday by the Atlanta Police Department, while committing another serious crime.

Taiwan Blandin, 30, is currently in the Fulton County Jail in Georgia on charges of carjacking, escape, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, fleeing to elude and other charges.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Atlanta PD relayed that Blandin had committed a carjacking around 2:30 a.m. Saturday at a convenience store. Atlanta police spotted the stolen Honda shortly after and when they attempted to stop the car, the driver fled. Blandin was apprehended after he crashed the stolen car and attempted to flee on foot, PCSO said.

Police recovered gloves and a handgun from within the car.

Reports from Atlanta indicate there was a female passenger in the car, and although there is no further information about her, she was also arrested. The Atlanta PD said she is not the carjacking victim.

PCSO reported that on Oct. 1, Blandin broke into a Fort Meade home and sexually battered a woman while he allegedly held a knife to the 18 year-old’s throat. He then allegedly bound the woman and put her in the back seat of a car. Blandin drove to the home of an 80-year-old woman, Peggy Shiering, a former teacher. Blandin entered the elderly woman’s home, and shortly after his sexual battery victim escaped from the bindings and was able to flee the scene in the car, returning to her Fort Meade neighborhood.

The victim/witness said Blandin soon pulled up and began shooting at her. Instead of striking the young victim, he shot an 81-year-old woman in her wheelchair in the foot.

Investigators released disturbing new details Wednesday in the murder of an elderly woman in Polk County. A manhunt for the suspect is still underway.

Deputies say 30-year-old Taiwan Blandin killed the 80-year-old woman in Frostproof on Tuesday. The daughter of the victim spoke with 8 On Your Side and identified her as Peggy Schiering.

In a news conference Wednesday, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said a “bizarre” and “tragic” chain of events started early Tuesday morning in Fort Meade.

Judd says it all started when Blandin broke into a home in Fort Meade while an 18-year-old girl was asleep inside. The victim told deputies Blandin was standing naked in front of her when she woke up and told her he was going to sexually batter her. The sheriff says Blandin then pulled a knife on the girl, put it to her throat and made her perform oral sex on him.

“He rounded up four firearms from the residence as well,” Judd said. “Two handguns and two rifles.”

Blandin is then accused of “hog-tying” the victim, wrapping her in a blanket, putting her in his car and taking off.

“She said they left Fort Meade and went toward Frostproof,” Judd said. “And she said before we got to Highway 27, he turned on some dirt roads that she didn’t recognize…and he stopped at a dirt path.”

When Blandin stopped at the dirt path, Sheriff Judd says he got out and opened a gate, then got back in his car and drove behind some bushes to a mobile home that was not visible from the road.

The victim told deputies Blandin then went to the front door of the mobile home and knocked.

“She said an elderly lady came to the door with white hair. They had a conversation and (Blandin) went into the residence with her,” the sheriff said.

At that point, deputies say the 18-year-old had freed herself and got into the front seat of the car to take off back toward Fort Meade. She told deputies she pulled into the neighbor’s yard across the street from where she lives so she could use their phone. Blandin still had her cell phone on him, deputies say.

The 18-year-old said just moments later, Blandin pulled in driving the red van she saw outside the elderly woman’s home in Frostproof. Judd says Blandin jumped out of the car and started shooting at the girl, who started running away.

“While he’s shooting at her, he shoots an 81-year-old lady sitting in her wheelchair. It hits her in the foot,” Judd said.

Blandin then jumped back into his own car and took off, Judd says.

When detectives got to the scene to start investigating what happened, the 18-year-old told them she knew who Blandin was. Judd said during his news conference the girl told them Blandin went to school with her boyfriend.

Deputies were then sent to the home where Blandin allegedly took the red van. When deputies got there, Judd says there was smoke in the house because Blandin tried to set it on fire.

When they got inside, deputies say they found an 80-year-old woman who had been shot twice and killed.

Four suspects were arrested after a Polk County crime spree that started with a pawn shop robbery, led to a shootout with a police officer and ended with the killings of a 72-year-old Haines City woman and her daughter.

Michael Gordon, 34, of Lakeland, was charged Friday with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Patrica Moran and her 51-year-old daughter Deborah Royal.

Gordon also was charged with armed robbery and attempted murder on a law enforcement officer, along with 22-year-old Devonere McCune, 25-year-old Jovan Lamb and 29-year-old Terrell Williams, all of Haines City.

The crime spree began Thursday evening with a robbery at Cash America Pawn, 105 Havendale Blvd. Surveillance images show the intruders in white hoodies with assault rifles. Witnesses said three were inside the store while one waited outside in a red GMC Jimmy.

Polk Sheriff Grady Judd said the “well-designed” robbery was planned “to incite terror” among store employees. He said the foursome even called 911 with a false report of a shooting to distract police.

Judd said a Haines City police officer spotted the Jimmy and when he attempted to pull it over the suspects started firing at the officer’s patrol car from the SUV. The officer was not injured.
