It is a sad day for democracy when a TD is forced to close their constituency office over security concerns, Chair of the Oireachtas Women’s caucus Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has said.

Reacting to the news that Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns has been forced to close her Bandon constituency office permanently due to security concerns, O’Loughlin said it was “very regrettable”.

Cairns, who has previously spoken publicly about the abuse that has been directed at her in person and on social media, said in a statement this week:

“Following a security review last summer in consultation with my team, a decision was made to close the office.

“This was after gardaí had advised me against holding constituency clinics, which I have publicly spoken about in the past. I do not wish expand any further on this issue.”

Earlier this year, the Oireachtas issued fresh security advice to politicians, urging them to consider a personal alarm and to avoid holding their constituency clinics alone.

The information was sent to all members of the Oireachtas just a week after a bag of excrement was thrown at Fianna Fáil Minister of State Anne Rabbitte and Fine Gael TD Ciarán Cannon while they attended a public meeting in Galway.

The leaflet entitled ‘Personal Security Advice for Elected Officials’, was drawn up by the National Crime Prevention Office.

The issue of security of female politicians has been discussed at the Oireachtas women’s caucus meetings, O’Loughlin said.

As a result of issues being raised, additional funding for security was provided for last year. Oireachtas members are now able to apply for a vouched reimbursement of 50% of their approved security costs, or a maximum of €5,000.

However, it is understood that to date, only a small number of Oireachtas members have applied for the funding.

“It’s not just about protecting ourselves, it is about protecting our staff too. Many have female staff who might be in the office, on their own,” said O’Loughlin.

The Fianna Fáil senator said the majority of female politicians have had to change the way they conduct constituency business.

“I think we’ve all changed the way that we do our business, both in terms of going to places on our own and being in the office on our own. I think most of us now have gone to people making appointments, as opposed to just drop in and it is all on the basis of threats, either implicit or on social media.

“It’s concerning and it is worrying and it’s interfering with people doing their business and it’s interfering with decent people who have cause to be able to go into a clinic.”

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has condemned a Nazi flag being flown over a home in the state’s north-west as “disgusting”, amid calls to stop the symbol from being publicly displayed.

The flag, which features the swastika and other Nazi symbols, is still flying over the home in Beulah, a town which is along Victoria’s famous Silo Art Trail in the state’s Mallee region.

News that the symbol was on public display prompted widespread condemnation and renewed calls for displaying Nazi symbols to be made illegal.

“It is absolutely disgusting behaviour and if there’s any decency in that household they will take that flag down immediately.”

Independent MP for Mildura Ali Cupper said she was disgusted the flag was flying in her electorate.

“It’s shocking and it’s awful. It’s desperately sad and it’s such an insult to all of us who are democratic citizens who believe in inclusion and equality,” she said.

What’s “shocking and awful” is that a female elected politician actually doesn’t look like an ugly old lesbo hag.

Ali Cupper, shockingly enough, is mildly attractive – for a politician. And that mini-skirt, too…

Victoria Police said in a statement it had received complaints about the flag and was investigating whether any offences had been committed.

Police were working with the Yarriambiack Shire Council to resolve the matter, the statement said.

The council sought legal advice about how the flag could be taken down, but chief executive Jessie Holmes said beyond asking the residents to remove it, there was little the council or police could do.

“We’ll keep working with any statutory authority that might have the power to remove the flag,” Ms Holmes said.

Ms Holmes said the incident had shocked residents in Beulah, which she described as a kind and welcoming community.

The red and black flag resembles a Wehrmacht flag, which was used between 1935 and 1938 to represent the armed forces of Nazi Germany.

It was replaced by another flag when Adolf Hitler became the commander-in-chief of the armed forces in 1938.

The ABC has attempted to contact the residents of the house, but has not received a response.

However, The Age newspaper reported one of the residents defended flying the flag above the home, citing her German ancestry.

Beulah is a small town in Victoria’s wheatbelt region with a population of just a few hundred.

Resident Leanne Shanks called the flag a “disgrace” and said it was an insult to both Jewish people and Australian war veterans.

Beulah is a very tiny town.

In fact, “town” is in itself somewhat of an overstatement.

It’s more of a small village.

It’s got a bit of a ghost town feel to it, too.

Looks kind of cozy tho.

The point being, in spite of this being in the middle of freaking nowhere, some random people in a small village still managed to get a response out of state and county level politicians just for flying a flag on their property.

Presumably, if the flag had been flown in a slightly bigger town, even the federal prime minister would have had to fly in and make a speech condemning the racisms.

Or else Australia would have been done for – for sure.

Joe Biden thinks that he can do whatever he wants because he’s a politician.

In this “democracy” thing we have now, politicians can take away whatever they want to take away and do whatever they want to do if they manipulate the masses first.

After all, every voice matters, and the vote of a stupid ape is worth the same as your vote.

Although this may sound counterintuitive at first, manipulating everyone is easier than manipulating only a few. You can call it brainwashing, manipulation, mind control or persuasion — it doesn’t matter. The more people you reach with it, the better return of investment you get and the less effort you have to put into it.

Take a monarchy or dictatorship, for example. If you focused on “persuading” the few in control, the rest of the people would voluntarily or involuntarily manifest instances of disagreement in multiple forms.

It can work short-term, but the more you go without the approval of the masses, the more you risk the masses rebelling.

Even putting weak ideas into the minds of the population can quickly add up to something much more powerful than you’d have been able to install in only one individual’s mind.

Take gay marriage, for example. “Homosexuals should be able to marry” in the minds of millions quickly added up to “it’s okay if little boys want to cut their dicks off,” which in turn is now turning into “actually little boys should cut their dicks off.”

Convincing individuals of the merits of penis mutilation, one-by-one, is harder than convincing everyone that faggots should be able to marry and periodically making small pushes towards the cutting off of penises so the masses can pick up on it, process it and reach the land of penis cutting “on their own.”

It’s a kind of snowball effect where mass persuasion through the media is the equivalent of creating snow to feed the snowball sliding down the slippery slope.

This democracy thing, where everyone’s vote counts just because of HUMAN RIGHTS or whatever, potentiates this manipulation maxim to achieve even better results.

Some people funded a country and set clear rules about why they did it and for whom they did it, but what was once for whites and what once defended freedom of speech can be turned into Mordor because the people benefiting from the Founding Fathers’ epic achievement “changed their minds” about the nature of the land they inhabit after watching some Netflix, HBO and CNN.

Rousseff’s second presidential term, however, was cut short by an impeachment over breaches of budget rules. Rousseff says her downfall amounted to a parliamentary coup, backed by a smear campaign in the media owned by a handful of oligarchs.

It’s not that different in the US nowadays.

Politicians are terrible people, but in a healthy society, they have their uses. Usually, a grass-roots effort to change something or fight back against change appoints a slick, good-looking and totally immoral representative to send to the capital. There he shmoozes with the bugmen bureaucrats and mandarins making inroads to achieve what he was sent there by his grassroots base to do. More often than not, he cuts a deal that makes both sides happy, and perhaps enriches himself in the process a bit too.

Everyone walks away from it with something, and the Republic chugs along none the worse for wear.

Things get drastically worse when diversity is brought into the picture though.

Despite there being many illegal migrants and failed asylum seekers from North Africa and the Middle East, last year the Berlin government has overwhelmingly deported only migrants from the Balkan states.

510 migrants have left the capital city voluntarily from January to April of this year, most of them from Moldova, as the government gives them financial assistance for returning to their native country.

The number of migrants who have either been deemed to be staying in the country illegally or have failed their asylum claim has increased steadily in Berlin. Estimates in March of this year say there are at least 11,417 people who are supposed to leave the country.

Police have seized 150 terabytes of data material in the form of photos, movies and chatting. It is one of the largest seizures in Norwegian history, police revealed at a news conference Sunday.

“The material shows abuse of children of all ages also infants, said Hilde Reikrås,” said the head of police operation Dark Room.

She also gave examples of the scope of the abuse.

“The material includes penetration of toddlers, children being tied-up, children who have sex with animals and children who have sex with other children,” said Reikrås.

20 of the 51 people involved in the cases have been arrested in the Western Police District. 16 of them were taken into custody, 6 of them remain in custody. 31 people are from other police districts, and these cases are still under investigation.

Police stressed that there is no question of one network, but several.

The material uncovered featuring toddlers being tortured and raped, infant bestiality and other atrocities lines up remarkably with the fantastical and hard to believe testimony of this young British girl, which on the surface is hard to believe.

But this isn’t even the most disturbing aspect of the case.

One of the accused men had including a pregnant girlfriend and planned with another to commit offenses against the child when it was born, police said.

Some of the accused have also posted abuse directly online, and performed atrocities against their own children.

The charges currently have maximum penalty up to imprisonment for 15 years.

On the list of the accused, it is including two former or current elected politicians, one teacher and a lawyer.

Looking at another article from Norwegian papers on this matter, it appears the police officer involved with the investigation wasn’t necessarily molesting children or consuming the pornography, but instead was trying to cover it up.

The claim is that the FBI hacked in as part of their investigation, and slipped trojans into the files hosted. Sen. Richard Burr privately mused over the weekend that gun owners may want to put a “bullseye” on Hillary Clinton, according to audio obtained by CNN.

The North Carolina Republican, locked in a tight race for reelection, quipped that as he walked into a gun shop “nothing made me feel better” than seeing a magazine about rifles “with a picture of Hillary Clinton on the front of it.”

“I was a little bit shocked at that — it didn’t have a bullseye on it,” he said Saturday to GOP volunteers, prompting laughter from the crowd in Mooresville, North Carolina. “But on the bottom right (of the magazine), it had everybody for federal office in this particular state that they should vote for. So let me assure you, there’s an army of support out there right now for our candidates.”

The comments resemble similar ones made by Donald Trump in August when the GOP nominee said “Second Amendment people” could take matters into their own hands if Clinton became president.

But unlike Trump, Burr is saying sorry.

New MPs are to be given lessons in ethics to reverse the ‘jaundiced’ public view of politicians.

The Commons standards watchdog has proposed the lessons in the wake of the expenses and lobbying controversies.

Courses will start after the next general election, in 2015, and aim to bolster MPs’ confidence in how to act in public office.

Lord Bew, the chairman of the committee on standards in public life, said the seminars would raise ‘the awareness of practical ethical issues among MPs’.

Lessons on how to accept gifts and contact with outside lobbyists would raise the ‘ethical sensitivity of members of parliament’, according to Lord Bew.

‘People are thrust into situations they don’t expect and they are not necessarily equipped to know how to behave,’ he said.

‘There are sometimes simple cases of corruption, but a lot of what is going on now is a little bit more complicated to work out what is right and what is wrong.’
