Homicides and shootings are on the decline in Chicago this year, police said Friday.

There have been 44 homicides to date, compared with 80 by this time last year, or a 44% decrease, Chicago police said in a statement. There have been 214 shootings so far in January and February, they said, compared with 282 in the first two months of last year. The number of shooting victims also has declined, with 253 in 2019, compared with 345 last year, police said.

February saw a 40% decline in homicides and a 7% reduction in shootings, compared with the same time period last year, officials said.

I’m sure there’s a whole lot of back-slapping going on, but in actual reality, everyone knows that this was the result of the friendly Polar Vortex, which created record low temperatures in Chicago this year.

One thing about black people is that they originate in the jungles of Africa. This means that they are not especially adapted to cold weather.

This means that if it was a Polar Vortex 365 days a year, blacks would only kill half of the people they kill normally.

The University of Iowa student who died after being found outside on campus in subzero temperatures was “a momma’s boy with a tough exterior,” his dad said.

Gerald Belz, 18, was discovered unconscious Wednesday around 3 a.m. behind an academic hall — when the wind chill was about minus 51 degrees. The first-year pre-med student was rushed to a hospital, where he died.

“I want people to remember him as a compassionate person,” his dad, Michael Belz, told KCRG. “He had many more friends than I was aware of.”

Officials believe the teen died because of arctic temperatures that have been linked to at least nine other deaths as a polar vortex grips the Midwest. Doctors didn’t find any alcohol in his system, his family said, but the precise cause of death is not yet known.

The teen had been Snapchatting with his girlfriend late Tuesday and told her he was going to bed, his dad said, according to the Daily Iowan.
