A Birmingham doctor deliberately drove at an elderly man and knocked him over during a “road rage” incident over a parking space.

GP Shah Ali then “heartlessly” drove off without even checking on the injured victim following the shocking incident during the mid-afternoon of August 22.

The court heard how the defendant had driven to Highbury Park, Moseley in a Mini. The victim was on an access road and had turned right in his Volvo to go into the car park intending to take his dog for a walk.

Both vehicles then found themselves “nose to nose” and the doctor then “saw red,” Birmingham Crown Court heard.

The victim, who was in his early 80’s, then got out of his vehicle and Ali then launched a tirade of four letter words at him.

The pensioner tried to explain to the defendant that he had only wanted to park in one of the two spaces available but this was met with another “diatribe of abuse.”

At one point the victim tried to pacify his dog who had started yelping but this only enraged Ali further.

The defendant then reversed his car slightly and then drove towards the Volvo where the elderly man was standing by the door.

It initially appeared he was going to drive round it but then changed the angle and struck the victim with the wing mirror of his vehicle causing him to fall to the ground.

A witness said “his wheels were spinning up chunks of gravel all over the place.”

Ali, 40, of Beaconsfield Road, Balsall Heath, who had previously been found guilty of dangerous driving, following a trial, was sentenced to nine months suspended for two years, ordered to do 180 hours unpaid work, pay £300 compensation, £2,800 costs and was banned from the roads for 18 months.

A doctor who mistook deadly blood poisoning for tonsillitis, leading to a four-year-old girl’s death, has been found guilty of serious misconduct but escaped being struck off.

A medical tribunal decided that despite a catalogue of errors, Dr Baljinder Ubhi was not a risk to patients following the tragic death of Gracie Foster, who died of sepsis just hours after he sent her home from hospital.

The youngster from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, had been due to have her tonsils removed before surgery was cancelled after she fell sick on the hospital ward.

The hearing was told consultant paediatrician Dr Ubhi admitted he was ‘cutting corners’ and failed to carry out a series of basic examinations on Gracie or prescribe antibiotics and decided she simply had a viral infection.

An inquest in September 2018, found there were ‘gross failures’ by healthcare professionals which contributed to her death in October 2015.

At the time her mother, Michelle Foster, said: ‘Nothing will bring Gracie back – her early, tragic and avoidable death is something from which her family will never recover.

‘Gracie walked into hospital on the day of her death a happy, chatty and joyous little girl.

‘Gracie’s family never imagined that the very same day they would see their little girl covered in tubes, being resuscitated – witnessing Gracie’s death in such traumatic circumstances is something they have to relive daily.’

At the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service hearing, Dr Ubhi accepted that he failed to adequately review Gracie’s medical records or obtain a history from her mother when he took charge of her case at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

The tribunal ruling today stated: ‘Dr Ubhi failed to assess [Gracei’s] behaviour, heart rate, breathing rate, capillary refill time, skin colour or extremities’ skin temperature.

‘Dr Ubhi failed to arrange for the following investigations to be undertaken for Patient A (Gracie): a full blood count blood culture C-Reactive Protein (CRP) level urine analysis and culture.

‘Dr Ubhi failed to request that a period of observation be undertaken in respect of Patient A, pending the results of those investigations. Dr Ubhi did not record his consultation with Patient A in the medical notes.

‘After examination solely of the tonsils Dr Ubhi diagnosed Patient A with viral tonsillitis and advised that antibiotics were not required.’

After her condition deteriorated, her worried family rushed Gracie to Sheffield Children’s Hospital but she could not be saved and died due to meningococcal septicaemia.

When questioned at the hearing, Dr Ubhi also accepted he had been ‘cutting corners’ on the day in question, saying he was very busy.

He should have joined his local gang rape instead.

A GP has been given three life sentences for 90 sexual assaults on female patients.

Manish Shah assaulted 23 women and a 15-year-old girl while working in London – carrying out invasive examinations for his own gratification.

The Old Bailey heard he used Angelina Jolie and Jade Goody as examples to frighten patients about their health.

Judge Anne Molyneux described him as a “master of deception who abused his position of power”.

“You made up stories which got into heads and caused panic,” she said, as she sentenced Shah to a minimum of 15 years in prison.

Shah, from Romford, convinced his victims to have unnecessary checks between May 2009 and June 2013.

“Your behaviour was not only sexual but was driven by your desire to control and on occasions humiliate women,” the judge said.

The youngest victim told the court she was left “anxious, fearful and shaking” at the prospect of visiting the doctor after being abused by Shah.

She said she felt differently about men and worried about being seen as a “sex object”.

The 50-year-old doctor who claimed the assaults were “defensive medicine” was found guilty of 25 sexual offences against six victims at Mawney Medical Centre last autumn.

At an earlier trial in 2018, he was convicted of offences relating to 18 other people, bringing the total number of offences to 90 relating to 23 patients.

National Health Service (NHS) doctor Manish Shah has been found guilty of sexually assaulting “dozens” of female patients while practising in London.

50-year-old Shah, of Brunel Close, Romford, was convicted of nine counts of sexual assault and 16 counts of sexual assault by penetration.

He had previously been convicted of multiple offences of sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by touching against 17 other women in a December 2018 trial, details of which were subject to reporting restrictions until now.

All told, according to a Metropolitan Police statement, Shah was convicted for offences perpetrated against “a total of more than 20 female victims, aged in their 20s and 30s” over the two trials, having duped them into “regular breast and vaginal examinations” for which there was “no clinical need” at the Mawney Medical Centre in east London.

Sajid Javid is planning a major relaxation of immigration laws before Brexit and will ease a cap on foreign medics working in the UK to allow the NHS to recruit more staff.

The new Home Secretary will remove doctors and nurses from the annual 20,700 ‘tier 2’ visa limit on non-EU workers.

Other employers will be able to recruit an extra 8,000 skilled migrants a year, including IT experts, engineers and teachers, effectively raising the cap by 40 per cent.
