A drug addict threatened to torture a cerebral palsy sufferer with boiling water, a hot iron and a knife as he robbed him in a Birmingham flat.

Mohammed Sagheer, 34, also threatened to kill terrified Dunbar Brown during a prolonged ordeal at the flat of a mutual friend in Lee Bank.

After rummaging through his victim’s bag, pocketing £45 cash, the thug had then demanded the pin number for his debit card.

The drink and drug addict, of Membury Road, Saltley, later pleaded guilty to robbery and has now been jailed for four years.

Richard Gibbs, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court, said Mr Brown had gone to stay at a friend’s flat at Avon House on March 8. Sagheer was already there and asleep.

The following morning, when they were left alone, Sagheer demanded cigarettes from Mr Brown, whose mobility was limited because of his condition,

Mr Gibbs told the court: “(Sagheer) demanded to look n the complainant’s bag and removed £45 and demanded to know whether his bank account was in funds.

“He held up a card and demanded to know the PIN number and threatened to stab the complainant if the PIN was wrong.”

Sagheer also threatened to strangle Mr Brown with a sock, burn him with an iron and pour boiling water over him if the wrong PIN number was given.

Mr Gibbs added: “He then told the complainant he was going to the cash machine with the card, he would withdraw £20 to buy a phone top-up, vodka, cigarettes and weed.”

It was only when left alone that Mr Brown was able to call the concierge of the building to raise the alarm.

When arrested Sagheer denied the offence and claimed the victim had made sexual advances towards him.

In an impact statement Mr Brown said he was no longer able to spend time in groups of people, suffered panic attacks and was no longer the same person.

William Dudley, defending, said Sagheer had been tackling his drink and drug issues since being held in prison on remand. He said: “His alcohol and substance issues have been treated effectively, he is sorting himself out really rather successfully.”

A schoolboy who terrorised pensioners and disabled people as he walked home from school has been given as Asbo.

Police described Maruf Yousaf, 16, as ‘cocky with a poor attitude; a bully and a wannabe gangster’, and said he threatened and robbed his victims, mocking their age or disabilities, often while still in his school uniform.

Yousaf, of Brierfield, Lancashire, was named by Lancashire Police officers after he was handed a two-year antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) at Burnley Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard how Yousaf’s victims, often vulnerable through age or disability, would call police to say he had targeted them, swearing at them, assaulting them, jostling them or robbing them.

Some reported having their windows smashed after they stood up to the baby-faced teenager, whom police have named.

Over a six-month period, Yousaf was also involved in shoplifting, breaking into cars and hitting shoppers in his hometown, magistrates heard.

Citing Yousaf’s ‘increasing levels of anti-social behaviour, hate crime, criminal damage and robbery’, police and Pendle Council began proceedings against the teenager which resulted in him being given an Asbo last Thursday.

Now the teenager, who attended Colne Primet High School, has been ordered to stay out of the town centre unless he is with his mother.

He also cannot associate with four other youths, Shakeel Hussain, Hassan Ahmed, Fayzal Anwar and Qadir Ahmed, other than for ‘educational or religious purposes’, and faces jail if he does not comply with the order.

PC Karen Isherwood of Lancashire Police said: ‘His typical behaviour was that he would identify someone who was vulnerable, like the elderly or disabled, and he would be abusive and cause damage.

‘He would make them feel intimated, and make them feel more vulnerable and frightened to be out on the streets.’

‘He was making people’s lives a misery.’

She said ‘a lot of work had been to address his behaviour’, and said that he was attending school but committing the offences after school hours.

The Non-White coward angrily punched the disabled woman in the face twice, when he was unable to steal her handbag from off the back of the wheelchair.

A woman in a wheelchair was punched twice in the face during an attempted mugging.

Police branded her attacker ‘the lowest of the low – a coward and a scoundrel’.

The thug approached the woman, 55, in Long Street near the junction of Durnford Street, Middleton on Wednesday evening and made a grab for her handbag, which was attached to the wheelchair.

When he failed to snatch the bag, he punched the victim twice in the head.

He ran off towards the town centre after someone who was standing outside the nearby Olde Boar’s Head pub shouted at him.

The witness left the area in a taxi before the police arrived.

The attacker had olive skin, was in his late 30s or early 40s and stocky.

He was wearing a black top with the hood pulled up and black jeans.

Det Con Mark Green said: “This individual really is the lowest of the low. He is a coward and a scoundrel.

“To deliberately target and strike a person in a wheelchair is beyond comprehension for anyone with a moral compass.

“Were you in the area and do you have information about the offender? If so please call us.”

A disabled Burnley man has slammed a thug who punched him in the face and tried to steal his mobile phone in broad 
daylight leaving him with a black eye.

Mr Brian Tomlinson (58) was walking across the park at Pit Top, Bank Hall, close to his Cobden Street home at 2pm last Friday when he was approached by a man who threatened him and demanded his mobile phone.

When he refused to hand it over, the attacker punched Mr Tomlinson in the eye before turning and running away.

Mr Tomlinson, who had been advised to start walking by his doctor to improve his health, was on his first stroll when he was attacked. He said the assault had made him nervous of going out alone and particularly walking through the park. He said he also wanted to warn others to be on their guard.

“He gave me such a lamp, he smashed my glasses and everything but I wasn’t going to give him my phone. He would be very lucky to get anything off me. I went out two days later with my wife, I didn’t want to walk across the park again. I was scared but I did it.

An illegal immigrant dragged a teenage girl with learning difficulties from the streets and raped her in his home – a month after a warrant had been issued to have him deported.

Hamidullah Hamidi, 19, tempted his ‘extremely vulnerable’ 14-year-old victim from outside a shop in Bristol by offering her money.

He took the girl – who has a mental age of seven – to a deserted street before dragging her home, locking her inside and raping her, a court heard.

Hamidi has now been jailed for six years after admitting one count of rape at Bristol Crown Court.

The court heard that Hamidi, an Afghan national, fled his home country as a child to avoid fighting for the Taliban and was raised by a foster family in Britain.

He was given limited leave to stay in the country, which he exceeded, leading to a warrant being issued to have him deported.

Hamidi was supposed to leave the UK last November, but was still in the country on December 8 when the attack took place.

Judge Michael Longman said that Hamidi would serve half his prison sentence before being deported.

Sentencing, he said: ‘Your victim was just 14 at the time when you raped her. She was plainly an extremely vulnerable girl.

‘You saw her in the shop and left and waited for her to come out. You offered her money as a lure and she accompanied you.

‘You led her physically to your home address where you locked her in and raped her. When she was able to leave and make off, you followed her until you were stopped from doing so. You caused her severe psychological harm.’

The court was told Hamidi’s victim suffers from significant learning difficulties and intellectually functions at the level of a seven-year-old child.
