A Billings man accused of killing a highway road crew member admitted Tuesday to a felony charge of negligent vehicular homicide.

Ethan James Anderson, 28 of Billings, appeared in Yellowstone County District Court for a change of plea hearing. He was charged last year for the death of 52-year-old Jeff Dykeman, a Montana Department of Transportation road worker who was struck by a truck on Oct. 24.

The crash happened at the I-90 off-ramp on South Billings Boulevard at exit 447 at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Anderson also changed his plea to guilty to two counts of criminal endangerment.

Prosecutors said Anderson was driving under the influence of Difluoroethane at the time of the crash and was severely impaired after ingesting or inhaling the substance.

Court documents also say during the execution of a search warrant a can of Dust-Off, a dust cleaner that uses compressed gas, with a top detached was located in Anderson’s truck. The product contains Difluoroethane, a chemical known to cause a high if inhaled.

Anderson is scheduled to appear in a special sentencing hearing in August before Judge Michael Moses.

A Tennessee officer was killed in a fiery crash early Thursday morning when a 17-year-old driver ran into his police car, authorities said.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department announced the death of officer John Anderson, 28, in a tweet.

“It was extreme sadness that the MNPD confirms the on-duty death of Central Precinct Officer John Anderson,” the department wrote on Twitter Thursday morning.

The crash happened at around 3 a.m. when a Ford Fusion driven by 17-year-old Jayona Brown went through a flashing red light and struck Anderson’s car “very, very hard” in the intersection, police spokesman Don Aaron said at a news conference.

The force of the crash caused Anderson’s car to spin, slam into a utility pole and catch fire, he said. Anderson, a four-year veteran with the department, died at the scene.

Brown was hospitalized with injuries that are considering not life threatening. An 18-year-old passenger in her car was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Aaron said.

Behind the wheel of a Porsche Cayenne, Ryan B. Williams attempted to evade police zooming westbound on Route 299 in the Town of Lloyd just after 7:30 p.m. on July 1, 2018.

He pushed the speedometer to 128 mph before careening off the side of another vehicle. The Porsche crossed into the eastbound lane, still traveling 112 mph, and Williams struck a Ford pickup truck head-on.

Danielle M. Pecoraro, a 39-year-old New Paltz woman and mother, was driving the Ford. She died, the Ulster County coroner later said, of blunt force trauma.

Williams on Tuesday was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison by Judge Donald Williams, after the 29-year-old in April was found guilty of murder, aggravated vehicular homicide and other charges.

Williams was charged with second-degree murder, depraved indifference to human life, Ulster County Assistant District Attorney Joey Drillings said, in part due to the speed at which he was driving, which was revealed in the collision reconstruction report.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man they said shot and killed another man after a road rage incident.

Deputies are searching for Dietrich Thomas, 22, after they said he shot Eric Starr, 29, early Saturday morning.

Investigators said Starr was driving a silver Toyota Camry westbound on Interstate 10 west before exiting Mason Road. The victim then became involved in the road rage with Thomas, who was driving a 2019 black Dodge Charger.

Starr is said to have continued northbound on Mason Road and was followed by Thomas. Authorities said the two got out of their vehicles at Mason Road and Morton Ranch Road where their dispute became a physical confrontation.

Deputies say Thomas pulled out a pistol and shot Starr in the chest before getting back into his Charger and driving off westbound on Morton Ranch Road. Two witnesses stopped and tried helping Starr before he was taken by EMS to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Katy. Starr was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators have now charged Thomas with murder. They said Thomas is currently out of jail on bond for an unrelated shooting incident that was filed by Houston police earlier this year.

Thomas is said to be driving the black Dodge Charger with a Texas plate of KYB8378. He is considered armed and dangerous.

A man has been arrested in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 19-year-old in League City.

Philip Antoine, 32, was arrested and charged with failure to stop and render aid after/accident involving death, a second degree felony, according to League City police. His bond was set at $85,000.

Police said the teen, identified as River Russell, was found lying near a ditch last Monday in the 1800 block of F.M. 270 South.

His personal items were scattered across the road, including a skateboard.

Russell was taken to the hospital and died two days later.

Police believe Russell was hit sometime between 2:45 a.m. and 3:50 a.m. Monday.

He lived in a nearby apartment complex and graduated in 2018 from Atascocita High School.

An 18-year-old in Georgia says he’s thankful he’s alive after a man put him in a headlock and dragged him down the road in a reported road rage incident.

Dalton, 18, who didn’t want his last name used, says he doesn’t know what started the encounter during rush hour on June 6.

“I honestly don’t know what set it off,” Dalton said. “He gets out of his car, comes and punches me in the face. I kick him in the face with my boot out the window.”

Police identified the other driver involved as Emmitt Grubbs. The suspect eventually grabbed Dalton’s keys and went back to his car.

Dalton followed, and the incident escalated further. The 18-year-old says Grubbs had him in a headlock and was yelling, “I’m going to kill you.”

“When he started dragging me, I was holding on to the car because I knew as soon as he let go, I would just fall right off,” Dalton said.

Dalton held on, even as the car reportedly sped up to 40 miles per hour.

Court records show Grubbs was sentenced to 12 months’ probation after he was charged with simple battery in 2016. That incident was also a case of apparent road rage. The victim told police Grubbs stopped in the road, hit him in the face and left.

A woman was charged Tuesday in connection with a weekend hit-and-run crash that killed two people.

According to court documents, 20-year-old Jada Mimms, of Houston, was charged with two counts of failure to stop and render aid in connection with the Saturday crash in the Heights neighborhood that killed 64-year-old Jesus Perez and 55-year-old Lesha Adams.

Investigators said Adams was helping Perez, who was in a wheelchair, cross Shepherd Drive at West 10th Street about 9:30 p.m. when they were hit by a blue Chevrolet Cruze. Both later died at Ben Taub Hospital.

Mimms is being held in the Harris County Jail on $30,000 bond.

If convicted, Mimms faces up to 20 years in prison.

The jury in Oleaf Teoh’s trial found her guilty of four of the five counts she was charged with.

“We the jury find Oleaf Teoh guilty of vehicular homicide by OWI, guilty of vehicular homicide by reckless driving, guilty of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, guilty of malicious prosecution and not guilty of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.”

He was hit by Teoh, who was driving 62 mph down Urbandale Avenue, where the posted speed limit is 30 mph.

The jury also found out through police testimony, Teoh was intoxicated at the time of the crash with a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.

Investigators showed their body camera and interview footage from that night, displaying all of the lies she told them, including lying about her name, birth date, where the accident happened and who was in the car at the time.

Two teens are dead and several are in the hospital after investigators say a driver crossed the center line while intoxicated in Kokomo. The crash happened just before 2 a.m. on Sunday near US 35 near 80 W.

When they arrived, they saw a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by 26-year-old Treundon Johnson, of Logansport, and a 2011 Kia Soul, driven by Elizabeth Smith, 18, of Logansport.

Police believe Johnson was traveling eastbound on US 35 and crossed the center line, hitting the Kia Soul.

Two died from their injuries at the hospital. They have been identified as 16-year-old Auden Myers, of Logansport, and 17-year-old Haley Begley, also of Logansport. Family of the victims say five teens were inside Smith’s car.

Johnson was transported to Howard Regional Health with minor injuries. He was later transported to Howard County Jail after police say they determined he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

He has been charged with two preliminary counts of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death, three preliminary counts of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, two preliminary counts of reckless homicide, two preliminary counts of driving while suspended causing death and three preliminary counts of driving while suspended causing bodily injury.

A South Side man is being held in the Cook County jail nearly three months after authorities say he went on a high-speed, tequila-fueled joyride that killed a retired Chicago fire department commander and his wife.

Doran Sims, 30, has been charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol causing death in the early morning crash on July 29. Police said Sims was seen weaving back and forth on 103rd Street before plowing his vehicle into a car driven by 63-year-old Richard Biehl and his 60-year-old wife Susan. The impact caused the Biehls’ vehicle to flip onto its roof.

“He spent his entire career coming to the aid of other people, motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies,” said assistant deputy Chicago fire commissioner Mary Sheridan, who oversees CFD’s emergency services operations. “It’s really tragic that he and his wife Susan were killed by a drunken driver in a motor vehicle accident.”

Biehl was retired from the Chicago Fire Department where he served for more than 30 years. He and his wife left behind several children and grandchildren.
