A high court in Namibia declared two colonial-era laws that criminalised same-sex acts between men unconstitutional on Friday, in a landmark win for the LGBTQ community in the southern African country.

The case was brought by Namibian activist Friedel Dausab with the support of British-based non-governmental organisation Human Dignity Trust.

Dausab told Reuters he was “just happy” after the court’s decision. “It’s a great day for Namibia,” he said. “It won’t be a crime to love anymore.”

Consensual same-sex activity is prohibited in more than half of 54 African countries, according to ILGA, an international organisation supporting LGBTQ rights.

Germany’s Green Party has been hit with accusations of “causing damage” in Africa and acting as though Namibian citizens “can’t think for themselves” over plans to ban the import of hunting trophies.

The row broke out when Green Environment Minister Steffi Lemke began campaigning for the ban, describing the import of trophies as “absurd.” Similar bans are also being considered in Britain and elsewhere in Europe.

Lemke has complained about the hunting of animals “facing extinction,” prompting Namibian officials to stress that hunting is, in fact, a key part of conservation.

This is true and the point has been done to death.

We certainly understand this in the midwest of the US, where if you didn’t hunt deer, they would completely destroy the forests by eating every single bit of green on the ground.

We eliminated wolves in the area, which is good because it protects livestock (and small children who wander off), but it means we have to play the role the wolves used to play and limit the deer population.

The African nation’s environment minister, Pohamba Shifeta, told German newspaper Bild that trophy hunting takes place under strict international guidelines, adding that, if Germany were to make this “impossible,” this would be “an illegal, neo-colonial interference that runs counter to the international legal situation.”

The dispute is not confined to Namibia. Officials in its neighbouring country, Botswana, have threatened to send 20,000 elephants to Germany in protest against potential trophy import bans, which are being discussed despite an overpopulation of the mammal. (Its leaders say the country is home to around 130,000 elephants.)

Insisting that the promise of this ‘gift’ was “no joke,” President Mokgweetsi Masisi said the elephants should be allowed to “roam freely” like they would in Botswana.

Even the European Commission last year accepted that, so long as it is “well-regulated,” trophy hunting “can deliver benefits for both wildlife conservation and for the livelihoods and wellbeing of indigenous people and local communities living with wildlife.”

Masisi has warned that elephant overpopulation has become so bad that crops and even villages are being desecrated by the creatures. Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment said Lemke has “signaled that she will accept Botswana’s invitation if an opportunity arises” to inspect the country’s conservation efforts.

They don’t even need to do anything to “conserve” elephants. They are everywhere in Botswana, like a plague of very large insects.

Banning trophy hunting is probably the worst thing you can do if you actually actually care about conservation.

The only reason the blacks tolerate living around lions and tigers and bears (and elephants) is that they make money out of hunting, lots of money.

Take that away, and the locals will just wipe most of them out very quickly, because all of these animals are an annoyance.

Further: safaris are not a valid alternative, because not only do they make less money, but there’s a limit to how many people you can bring there before it starts affecting the wildlife. Hunters do not make a big mess like safaris do, they don’t disrupt the environment. They move through the forest trying to be as undetected as possible.

White women are totally driven by emotions, and they believe stupid hoaxes about conservation, which are decades old. The blacks were doing the logical thing in wiping out these animals that cause so many problems for crops and for villages, before it turned out that white people were willing to go on hunting trips, at which point the blacks decided there was a good reason to keep these animals around.

We see racists talking about how “blacks destroy the environment.” They actually don’t do that. The number one destroyer of the environment in Africa are Western companies going there to mine rare earth minerals to make “green” technology.

If you want to save the environment in Africa, stop subsidizing electric cars. Stop it with the windmills and solar panels. Go back to normal sources of energy.

The animals are fine as long as the blacks have a reason not to kill them all. Big game hunting is the main reason.

The parliament of Namibia passed a bill last week banning recognition of same-sex “marriages” between Namibians and foreigners.

According to the provisions of the bill, passed Wednesday, same-sex “marriages” contracted between Namibians and foreigners abroad will not be recognized as marriages in the predominantly Christian African nation. The bill further bans the promotion, solemnization, participation in, and advertising of such unions. The bill likewise defines marriage as a union between persons of the opposite sex and spouses as persons constituting half of a legal union between people born genetically male and female.

Violations of the bill would result in jail-time of up to six years and a fine of up to $5,500. The bill passed the Namibian parliament’s upper house with no opposition.

Speaking in favor of the bill during parliamentary debate, Elder Filipe of the ruling party, the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO), said that “The family union is between man and woman and that must be respected.” He further stressed that the act of sodomy is immoral.

“God created man with an anus for exit only, and transforming it into an exit-entry is extremely [immoral],” he said.

The bill is due to head back to the Parliament’s lower chamber for a second vote before being sent to President Hage Geingob for approval.

The country already has a 1927 law banning sodomy, however, it is seldom enforced, according to BNN. A series of court cases dealing with LGBT issues, however, have arisen in recent years, dealing with same-sex “marriage” and homosexuals’ ability to obtain children and emigrate from the country. Last May, the Namibian Supreme Court ruled that the country would recognize same-sex “marriages” formed abroad between Namibians and foreigners, leading to backlash from Namibian conservatives.

The Supreme Court of Namibia has ruled in favor of recognizing same-sex marriages from other countries, making Namibia only the second nation on the continent to do so after South Africa.

A small group of LGBTQ activists gathered at Namibia’s Supreme Court Tuesday where justices ruled in a 4 to 1 vote that Namibians married to foreign nationals in foreign jurisdictions must be recognized as any other couple within the country.

One of the judges, JA Mainga, dissented on the basis that the laws of Namibia do not recognize same-sex relationships. The other four judges, however, ruled that not recognizing same-sex couples infringes on their rights to dignity and equality.

VOA spoke to the legal counsel of the two same-sex couples, Carli Schickerling, who appealed an earlier judgement of the High Court of Namibia not to recognize their same-sex marriages.

“Today after a six-year battle, we finally won and the court has ruled that the Ministry of Home Affairs has to recognize these marriages by foreign spouses to Namibian spouses,” said Schickerling.

Over the past few months, the Supreme Court of Namibia has been hearing similar cases that deal with the subject of homosexuality.

In one case, a Namibian citizen, Friedel Dausab, is asking for the repeal of an anti-sodomy law. In another case, which was dismissed in March, a Mexican national and his Namibian partner asked the top court to grant Namibian citizenship to their child, conceived through surrogacy in South Africa.

The Mexican national in that case, Guillermo Delgado, spoke to VOA outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

“Our case is very similar and this represents a direct victory also for us, recognition that for marriage and our dependents,” said Delgado.

Linda Baumann of the Diverse Women’s Organization said this judgment will help homosexual couples get access to the same services as heterosexual couples.

Hypothetically speaking, she said, as a lesbian woman she could bequeath her estate to her lesbian partner when she dies, or she might be able to buy a house together with a same-sex spouse if the court gave rights to same-sex couples in all spheres of society.

She cautioned that this is just a ruling.

“It is important to understand the status of this case; it’s couples that are coming back to this country to claim their right to equality, their right to dignity and their right to family. To answer that question about same-sex marriages, I believe that a lot of LGBTQ people in this country, we experience a number of inequalities in service, in benefits, in having the right to say something over your partner,” said Baumann.

It’s important to note: the Moslems are not bending the knee to the anus like this.

A politician named after Adolf Hitler has won a seat at a Namibian election – but says he has no plans for world domination.

Adolf Hitler Uunona was elected with 85 per cent of the vote in the former German colony, which is still home to a small German-speaking community and where a number of streets, places and people still bear German names.

After winning the seat on the ticket of the ruling SWAPO party – which has ruled Namibia since independence from apartheid South Africa in 1990 – the politician told Bild that he had ‘nothing to do with’ Nazi ideology.

‘My father named me after this man. He probably didn’t understand what Adolf Hitler stood for,’ his namesake said.

‘As a child I saw it as a totally normal name. Only as a teenager did I understand that this man wanted to conquer the whole world.’

Is that actually the current narrative? That Adolf Hitler was trying to conquer the world? Or is that just what the blacks think? In the 1990s, even when we were getting taught “World War Holocaust” in public school, we weren’t taught that Hitler was planning to conquer the world.

I thought that was only the Marvel Comics version of Hitler.

He was pretty awesome also, but he wasn’t really meant to be a reflection of the real life Adolf Hitler.

There’s a lot of pretty great German architecture in Namibia.

However, we all have to admit – it’s not as nice as the traditional architecture of Namibians.

An interesting, seemingly legitimate proposition has been set forth on 8chan: the creation of a White homeland in Namibia.

Why Namibia, though? Kommandant lists several reasons:

>Not all as inhospitable as you may believe
>Cheap labor
>Not a huge Namibian population
>Small resistant military force (our claims may be held fast after being established)
>Bordering Botswana for possible expansion
>Bordering Angola for fuel
>Not landlocked (useful for shipping/receiving/fishing/energy production)
>Soon to be Chinese Migrants in Namibia who will establish trade-links and shipping terminals and services with China.

An American citizen attempted to escape from a prison in Namibia’s capital, Windhoek, but was caught, the country’s press agency said Monday.

The Namibian Press Agency, reported that Los Angeles native Marcus Kevin Tomas climbed a tree inside the Windhoek Central Prison and tried to jump over the barbed wire fence but instead landed on top of the fence. Prison authorities told the press agency that they found Tomas hanging from the barbed fence and called emergency medical services to remove him.
