Murder accused Mohammed Rahman has pleaded not guilty to stabbing a man to death.

Alan Stokoe was allegedly killed in County Durham in last month.

It is claimed the 26-year-old suffered fatal injuries after being stabbed in Melville Street, Chester-le-Street, at around 2am on Sunday July 21.

Emergency attended the scene where Mr Stokoe, of Chester-le-Street, was pronounced dead.

Rahman, 42, was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary with serious but non life-threatening injuries and was later charged with murdering Mr Stokoe.

The accused appeared at Newcastle Crown Court via a video-link from prison.

Rahman, of Eamont Gardens, Hartlepool, will stand trial in January next year in a case expected to last at least five days and will be back in court for a further pre-trial hearing in October.

Mohammed Rahman is accused of murdering 27-year-old Alan Stokoe in the early hours of June 21 near his home in Chester-le-Street in County Durham.

Father-of-one Alan, whose family lives in Broseley, suffered fatal injuries during the attack in Melville Street, which led to the road being closed off by police while investigations took place.

Rahman, 42, of Eamont Gardens in Hartlepool, will appear at Newcastle-upon-Tyne Crown Court on August 23.

He appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court last Friday and was remanded in custody.

Following Alan’s death, his family said: “We are devastated about the loss of Alan. He was a funny man and will be greatly missed.”

The court’s implication that this girl had no idea what she was getting herself into when she went to the back of the Paki’s store and accepted alcohol from him is ridiculous.

I have no sympathy for her whatsoever.

A shop worker has been jailed for ten years after raping a teenage customer in his store.

Married dad Mohammed Rahman plied the 16-year-old with alcohol and “wouldn’t take no for answer” when she told him she wanted to go home.

A court heard he closed his Cash Exchange shop while he attacked the girl in a windowless storage area.

When he re-opened the shop afterwards, a customer who came in saw the victim looking “shocked and distressed” and she asked him to help her.

Newcastle Crown Court heard the 30-year-old rapist had fixed the girl’s phone without charge and given her free “fidget spinners and headphones” after she came into his shop a few weeks earlier to buy a gift for her mum’s birthday.

Rahman then found her profile on social media and would send messages calling her “beautiful”.

The court heard on the day of the offence, Rahman plied her with “stupefying” alcohol, including sparkling Martini and vodka, until she was “drunk”.

It was when the teen lay down on a sofa in the storage area of the Houghton-le-Spring store that Rahman attacked.

Rahman, of Broomfield Street, London and formerly living in Hartlepool, denied rape but was found guilty by a jury after a trial.

He must now sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
