A robot artist is set to make history as the first to have a work put up for sale by a major auction house, with the portrait of Alan Turing expected to fetch up to £150,000 (€180,000, $196,000), organizers announced on Wednesday.

The piece created by Ai-Da, a humanoid robot artist powered by artificial intelligence, will be the first sold at a major auction house and is set to go under the hammer at Sotheby’s in London next month. It has been described as a “haunting” portrait of the English mathematician Alan Turing, considered one of the fathers of modern-day computing.

The large-scale artwork is entitled “AI God” and was ” first exhibited at the United Nations in May 2024 as part of a five paneled Polyptych,” Sotheby’s said on its homepage.

You can tell this was made by a machine because it doesn’t have even half the depth and artistry of the banana duct-taped to a wall.

An art exhibit in Los Angeles recently promoted the concept that one way of stopping hate in society is to demonstrate an almost homicidal anger against former President Donald Trump. The show was supposed to be all about how Trump is somehow “spreading hate” and people were asked to show their support for that concept by kicking around a soccer ball that resembled the head and face of Trump.

According to ZeroHedge, the art show participants were invited to take turns kicking a latex mock-up of Trump’s head around the floor at Superchief Gallery Saturday. The Trump football was envisioned by a group called INDECLINE who first introduced the world to their “anti-hate” tool four years ago by bringing it down to the southern border with Mexico and encouraging people to take turns knocking the ball around.

The art gallery claimed the point of exercising brute force on an object that looks like a former president’s head was to protest against how Trump supposedly is “spreading hate.” The group tried to explain the obvious contradiction by saying, “Freedom Kick is an appeal to the American sense of justice as a match between two opposing teams. The rules are meant to protect us from cheaters. We believe it is time to reset the game, before we have to spend another four years watching a cheeseburger-scarfing, bloviating mess hobble up and down the pitch spreading hate.”

Another desiccated version of Trump can be seen at the Subliminal Projects Gallery in LA, that features a statue of the Republican presidential candidate without clothes and with his genitals cut off, ZeroHedge reported.

Agiant installation by the late designer, sculptor and architect Gaetano Pesce is causing a stir in his native Naples with locals, tourists and Web users making wry comments on its allegedly phallic appearance, especially when viewed from behind.

The 12-metre-tall work by Pesce, who died in New York aged 83 in April, is a ‘revisitation’ of the costume of the classic Neapolitan commedia dell’arte character Pulcinella, with two red hearts pierced by an arrow.

It is called, in Neapolitan dialect, ‘Tu si ‘ na cosa grande’ (You Are A Big Thing).

It has risen in Piazza Municipio, near the iconic castle Maschio Angioino, for a few days now but will be formally inaugurated by officials including Mayor Gaetano Manfredi Wednesday night.

“I think that contemporary art and contemporary installations should spur debate,” said Manfredi on the fuss the work has caused.

A lift technician at a museum in the Netherlands mistakenly threw away a piece of artwork made to look like two empty beer cans.

“All the good times we spent together” by French artist Alexandre Lavet may look like it belongs in a trash can at first glance, but closer inspection reveals it is in fact “meticulously hand-painted with acrylics, with each detail painstakingly replicated,” the LAM Museum said in a statement earlier this month.

“For the artist, the cans symbolise cherished memories shared with dear friends,” added the statement from the museum, which is based in the town of Lisse, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Amsterdam.

The act of throwing this into the trash has objectively more artistic value than the thing itself

“While evenings spent enjoying drinks may seem trivial in the grand scheme of things, they ultimately embody precious moments of connection.”

Yeah, okay. Everyone agrees with that. But we already have many thousands of pieces of real art that communicates that.

We do not need trash celebrated as art.

It is utterly dehumanizing, like everything else Jews do.

The worker, who the museum said was covering for the regular technician, could perhaps be forgiven their error given the fact that the beer cans were displayed in a glass lift shaft, as though they were left behind by construction workers.

The artwork’s placement was part of the museum’s trademark of displaying pieces in what it calls “unconventional locations.”

“The theme of our collection is food and consumption,” said Sietske van Zanten, the museum’s director, in the October 1 statement, which did not specify exactly when the mishap took place.

“Our art encourages visitors to see everyday objects in a new light. By displaying artworks in unexpected places, we amplify this experience and keep visitors on their toes.”

The museum underlined that it “bears no ill will” towards the technician.

“He was just doing his job in good faith”, said van Zanten. “In a way, it’s a testament to the effectiveness of Alexandre Lavet’s art.”

The cans were later recovered from a trash bag, with both still intact. They were cleaned and then displayed on a traditional plinth at the museum entrance, according to the statement.

“We wanted to give them their moment in the spotlight,” said curator Elisah van den Bergh in the statement, who hasn’t decided where the work will be displayed next.

A towering nude statue depicting former President Donald Trump appeared in central Phoenix on Thursday.

The mysterious traveling figure first surfaced in Las Vegas earlier this week. It is titled “Crooked and Obscene,” according to a news release from the people taking credit for its creation.

“The title reflects the controversial aspects attributed to both the figure represented and the nature of the installation itself,” the release reads. “By unveiling a nude marionette of Donald Trump in an unexpected setting, the project aims to provoke thought and encourage open conversation about the complexities of political power and leadership.”

It was unclear who exactly was behind the project.

Yeah.

I wonder who would do something like this?

Individuals with the project refused to identify themselves on Thursday near the exhibit location off Washington Street and 24th Street. The area immediately surrounding it was private property and not open to the public.

Representatives of businesses in the area, which include a cannabis dispensary, said they had nothing to do with the statue.

According to the release, the statue was made of foam and rebar, weighing close to 6,000 pounds. Some people stopped by to take photos of the more than 40-foot-tall installation.

It’s unclear when the statue will be moved next. The release indicated this was the piece’s “second stop.” Both Nevada and Arizona are considered battleground states in the general election Nov. 5.

There should really be more confusing, creepy gigantic statues, generally.

A one-year-old Ghanaian toddler has been recognised as the world’s youngest male artist after nearly selling out his work at an exhibition.

Ace-Liam Nana Sam Ankrah was recognised by Guinness World Records (GWR) at the age of one year and 152 days.

The boy’s mother said she first observed his talent when he was only six months old and she now hopes he will take the art world by storm.

To qualify for the record, GWR said Ace-Liam needed to sell his work at a professional exhibition that was open to the public.

The work needed to be done to a professional standard and evidence presented that it was done on his own.

Ace-Liam’s work was first exhibited at Accra’s Museum of Science and Technology last December.

He went on to sell nine of the 10 pieces that were on display and was even commissioned to create a painting by Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the country’s first lady.

His mother, Chantelle, is also an artist, and said she discovered his talent while she tried to keep him busy while working on her own pieces.

She said: “While learning to crawl, I spread out a piece of unstretched canvas on the floor and dropped some paint on it as a way to keep him busy while I worked on a commission painting.

“He ended up spreading the paint all over the canvas, and in the process he created his first masterpiece titled ‘The crawl’.”

A portrait of Pablo Picasso’s “golden muse” and secret lover has sold for $139.4m (£114m) at auction in New York, making it the second most valuable work by the 20th-century artist.

Femme à la montre, painted in 1932, was described by Sotheby’s as the “prized jewel” of about 120 artworks owned by Emily Fisher Landau, one of the greatest art collectors of the 20th century, that were sold on Wednesday evening.

The portrait comfortably exceeded Sotheby’s estimate of at least $120m but fell short of the record for a Picasso at auction, held by Les femmes d’Alger, which sold for $179.4m in 2015. Four other works by Picasso have sold for more than $100m in the past 20 years.

Picasso painted Femme à la montre during his explosive “year of wonders” as he prepared for his first large-scale retrospective in Paris at the age of 50.

By 1932, his clandestine affair with Marie-Thérèse Walter had been under way for several years. The relationship began when the artist, then 45, spotted the 17-year-old through the window of Galeries Lafayette in Paris. She inspired paintings, drawings and sculptures, some of which are considered the greatest works of Picasso’s eight-decade career.

A new sculpture, believed to be the first of its kind in the world, has been designed to celebrate women who wear hijabs.

The artwork, called Strength of the Hijab, was designed by Luke Perry and will be installed in the Smethwick area of the West Midlands in October.

It is believed to be the first sculpture of a woman wearing the traditional Muslim head covering.

The sculpture is five metres (16ft) tall and weighs about a tonne.

It was commissioned by Legacy West Midlands, a registered charity which celebrates the heritage of post-war migrant communities in Birmingham.

Mr Perry said: “The Strength of the Hijab is a piece which represents women who wear hijabs of the Islamic faith, and it’s really there because it’s such an underrepresented part of our community, but such an important one.

“They need visibility, it’s so important, so working with the community to come up with the designs has been really exciting because we didn’t know what it was going to look like until now.”

Mr Perry has previously designed the Black British History is British History sculpture, alongside Canaan Brown, which was installed in Winson Green in May.

That piece was defaced shortly after it was installed. But while Mr Perry acknowledged the new sculpture could be “controversial”, he said it was important to represent everyone who lived in the UK.

The Tate gallery has deemed that a celebrated British artist should be referred to with the pronoun ‘they’ – more than 60 years after her death.

Several works by Marlow Moss, a painter and sculptor who died in 1958, are on display at Tate St Ives, Cornwall, with a sign referring to her using gender-neutral pronouns.

Visitors are told that Moss’s ‘deliberately masculine appearance challenged both artistic and social conventions at the time’ and ‘their’ approach to modern art and identity ‘continues to provoke vital debate about art history, making and gender’.

Moss, who is credited for helping shape abstract art in Europe in the first half of the 20th century, has been described as a radical lesbian and changed her forename from Marjorie to Marlow in 1919, as well as adopting a masculine appearance.

Did she really adopt a masculine appearance, or did the masculine appearance adopt her?

But the decision by the gallery to posthumously change the pronouns of the Constructivist artist has prompted accusations that it was trying to erase her sex.

A page on the Tate’s website explaining its thinking – which was briefly deleted before being restored yesterday – even went as far as to suggest that Moss might identify as transgender if she were still alive.

The page said: ‘It’s very interesting trying to describe people from history like Marlow, because we have tons of words to describe gender now that didn’t exist in Britain back then.

‘Perhaps if Marlow was alive today, the artist would identify as transgender, which means that your gender is different to the one that the doctors or midwives presumed you were when you were born, or non-binary, which means that neither the word “boy” nor “girl” are a good fit for you.’

One visitor, Jo Bartosch, shared a letter of complaint she had written to the Tate on social media, but claimed she had yet to receive a reply more than a week later.

Ms Bartosch’s letter to the gallery said: ‘Like many lesbians and bisexual women of the time, (and indeed some today), Moss dressed in stereotypically male clothes.

‘It should not be surmised from this that she thought of herself as anything other than a woman.

‘This is as logical as arguing that any woman in the past who achieved recognition outside of the home was not in fact a “proper woman”, because in doing so she would break a traditional feminine role. It is a sexist, regressive assumption.’

Climate protesters threw soup on Vincent van Gogh’s famous “Sunflowers” painting in London’s National Gallery and glued themselves to the wall on Friday in protest of fossil fuel extraction.

The painting, which is covered in glass, did not appear to suffer any damage, according to The Associated Press. Police officers have since unglued the two protesters and arrested them for criminal damage and aggravated trespassing, London’s Metropolitan Police said in a press release.

The two protesters were with Just Stop Oil, an organization demanding that the government in the United Kingdom end all new oil and gas extraction.

“What is worth more — art or life?” one of the protesters said while glued to the wall on Friday. “Is it worth more than food, worth more than justice? Are you more concerned about the protection of a painting or the protection of our planet and people?”

“The cost-of-living crisis is part of the cost-of-oil crisis,” the protester added. “Fuel is unaffordable to millions of cold, hungry families. They can’t even afford to heat a tin of soup. Meanwhile, crops are failing. Millions of people are dying in monsoons, wildfires and severe drought. We cannot afford new oil and gas. It’s going to take everything we know and love.”

These people are incoherent.

Moreover: there is a 100% overlap between people who believe in global warming and people who pay $30 to look at garbage “artwork.”

The optics are on-point though.
