Former Vice President and current presidential candidate Mike Pence made an unannounced visit to Ukraine Thursday, becoming the first declared 2024 Republican contender to meet with Kyiv’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

The 64-year-old made the trip with Samaritan’s Purse, an evangelical Christian humanitarian organization that the former VP previously accompanied to Poland and Ukraine, a Pence adviser said.

“This is bigger than politics,” Pence told NBC News.

“I really do believe that if Vladimir Putin and the Russian military were to overrun Ukraine, it wouldn’t be too long before they cross the border where our men and women would be required to fight,” he continued.

A lawyer representing Pence, Greg Jacob, last week reported to the National Archives and Records Administration that a “small number” of papers with classified markings were discovered at the ex-VP’s home in Indiana. Jacob wrote in a letter to the agency that the find was made during a search by a legal firm that Pence hired in the wake of this month’s scandal over Biden’s handling of state secrets. CNN, which obtained a copy of the letter, first reported the news on Tuesday.

The records in question “were inadvertently boxed and transported to the personal home of the former vice president at the end of the last administration,” Jacob said in the letter. “Vice President Pence was unaware of the existence of sensitive or classified documents at his personal residence.” He added that Pence stood ready to cooperate with “any appropriate inquiry” and wanted guidance from the National Archives on the “prompt and secure return” of the documents.

Pence attacked Trump over his documents, even though Trump’s were legal because the act of taking them to his house would have been de facto declassification.

I think all of this stuff is nonsense. No one even understands what it is about. These are not actually secret documents, it is just related to a law that classifies them as sensitive even though they are old and not really relevant. Every president (and maybe every vice-president) takes documents after they leave office to write their memoirs. No one respected the Espionage Act because it was never enforced.

64% of Democrats said outright they don’t want Biden to run again in 2024. The 92% number was if Biden ran against Trump. So, 8% of people who voted Biden in 2020 would be open to voting for Trump instead of him in 2024.

But, if you had a poll asking if Democrats would prefer Mike Pence to Joe Biden, you might end up with a majority saying yes, especially if Pence went pro-abortion.

This is the argument that is going to be made against Trump: many or even most Democrats would vote for a “moderate” Republican in 2024. The only person they wouldn’t vote for is Trump.

However, the option is not going to be Pence, it’s going to be Ron DeSantis.

Ron DeSantis is preparing a coup against Trump. Mike Pence probably will run, then drop out and endorse DeSantis. Everyone who is willing to run against Trump at all will endorse DeSantis after dropping out. This would at least be the logical course of action. But it’s impossible to assume that these people will act logically and in their own self-interest, which makes them impossible to predict.

A new video from the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol appears to show two Texas men threatening to drag then-Vice President Mike Pence and other lawmakers through the streets.

The men, Ryan Nichols and Alex Harkrider, were arrested days later in Texas and charged with various crimes, including assault with a dangerous weapon — specifically, a crowbar, baton and pepper spray, according to the indictment against them. They each pleaded not guilty. Harkrider was released pending trial. Nichols was denied release, and both of their cases are still pending.

The Facebook Live video, which was allegedly shot by Nichols as they marched to the Capitol, was mentioned in a pre-trial motion filed by the Justice Department and released to local news outlets over the weekend.

The new footage comes on the heels of the Republican National Committee’s vote to censure Reps. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., for their participation in the House select committee investigating the insurrection. The resolution passed by the RNC attempted to reframe the events of Jan. 6 as “legitimate political discourse.”

Nichols allegedly filmed himself talking about Pence, who on Jan. 6 was presiding over the Senate as Congress set about certifying the 2020 election. Then-President Donald Trump falsely claimed Pence had the power to overturn the results. At the “Stop the Steal” rally that preceded the attack on the Capitol, Trump urged his supporters to “fight like hell” and expressed hope that Pence would “do the right thing” and send the votes back to the states for recertification.

Pence ultimately did not, and President Biden’s 306-232 victory over Trump in the Electoral College was certified hours after the rioters were cleared from the Capitol Building.

An Idaho man who sat in then-Vice President Mike Pence’s chair during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a criminal charge of obstructing an official proceeding.

Josiah Colt, a 35-year-old resident of Meridian, Idaho could face a sentence of up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, federal prosecutors said. They said that as part of his plea agreement, Colt agreed to cooperate with the investigation of the deadly attack.

More than 535 people have been arrested with taking part in the Jan. 6 violence, when supporters of former President Donald Trump smashed windows, fought with police and sent lawmakers and Pence scrambling for safety in a failed bid to stop Congress from certifying Trump’s election defeat.

Prosecutors said Colt entered the Capitol and headed to the U.S. Senate chamber, where he and other rioters forced their way past police into the gallery not long after senators were evacuated.

He then entered the Senate floor and ran to a chair reserved for the U.S. vice president, who sometimes presides over the Senate. Colt subsequently posted a video on Facebook in which he claimed to have been the first Capitol rioter to sit in a chair reserved for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Who shot Ashli Babbitt, the pro-Trump Air Force veteran who was killed by police during the January 6 riot at the US Capitol building? The American people were told that it was a Capitol Police officer who fired the fatal shot. But Cockburn has stumbled across some information that points to a different explanation.

Sources close to and within the intelligence community tell Cockburn that Babbitt was actually shot by a member of then-vice president Mike Pence’s protective detail. The VP’s detail, of course, is provided by US Secret Service, not the Capitol Police. One person asserted to Cockburn over drinks in DC that this is ‘basically an open secret’ in the intelligence community.

Law enforcement sources suggested to Cockburn that the Capitol Police Department and Department of Justice have publicly identified the shooter as a Capitol Police officer in order to protect the reputation of the Secret Service. Cockburn also wonders if this isn’t an attempt to protect Pence from further anger or threats from Capitol rioters who wanted him to refuse to certify the results of the election on January 6.

A cover-up of this nature would also explain why the government hasn’t been forthcoming with other information about the alleged Capitol Police officer who they say shot Babbitt. Police officers who are involved in shootings are almost always identified publicly. The unnamed officer’s lawyer says that his client is being kept anonymous due to threats against his life. Babbitt’s family, however, argues that they have a right to know who shot and killed their beloved relative. Her husband, Aaron Babbitt, is suing Washington DC for access to records that would supposedly reveal the name of the officer.

Michael Brendan Dougherty floated the idea that Babbitt was shot by Secret Service on his Twitter account in early June, writing in response to Aaron Babbitt’s lawsuit, ‘I mean, at this point you have to suspect that it’s not a Capitol cop.’ He replied ‘SS’ when asked who he thought could have been responsible instead.

This follows logically.
