Mexican authorities, with assistance from the United States and Israeli intelligence agencies, thwarted an alleged plot by Iran to assassinate the Israeli ambassador to Mexico, Israeli and US officials said Friday.

A US official said that the elite Quds Force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps initiated the plot to kill Ambassador Einat Kranz Neiger in late 2024 and that it was disrupted this year. The plot allegedly included recruiting operatives out of Iran’s embassy in Venezuela, whose authoritarian left-wing president, Nicolas Maduro, has a tactical alliance with Tehran.

“The plot was contained and does not pose a current threat,” the US official said in a statement to reporters on condition of anonymity. “This is just the latest in a long history of Iran’s global lethal targeting of diplomats, journalists, dissidents and anyone who disagrees with them, something that should deeply worry every country where there is an Iranian presence.”

The US official did not provide detailed evidence or say how the plot was contained.

The thwarted assassination attempt in Mexico showed Iran has a large-scale terror network in the region used for carrying out attacks on Israeli and US targets, the source said, adding that American officials believe many of the planned terror attacks are directed from Tehran’s embassy in Venezuela. Iran has branded accusations from the United States and Israel that it was hatching a plot to assassinate the latter’s ambassador to Mexico as “ridiculous”.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told reporters on Monday that Tehran believes Israel is trying to damage its “friendly relations” with other countries through an “absurd allegation”.

Iran’s embassy in Mexico on Monday called the accusation “a media intervention and a great lie” and said it considers “betraying Mexico’s interests to be betraying our own”.

Baghaei said: “Our embassy stated that we found this allegation so absurd and ridiculous that we did not even think it required an official response from the spokesperson.”

Baghaei was quick to point out that Israel has previously made similar accusations against Iran, citing attacks on Jewish synagogues in Australia in late 2024.

That appeared to be a reference to a testimony given by the New South Wales Police Force to the upper house of the Australian parliament in early October, which presented the result of an investigation into suspected Iranian links to 14 incidents of attacks on synagogues, graffiti, firebombings, and attacks on cars and homes.

“The NSW Police Force has nil holdings in relation to foreign agents perpetrating these incidents,” a police representative told lawmakers at the time.

“Despite official statements by Australian police rejecting any connection to Iran, Israel has continued to insist on Tehran’s involvement,” Baghaei said.

However, in late August, Australia accused Iran of directing two “anti-Semitic” arson attacks in the cities of Sydney and Melbourne and gave Tehran’s ambassador seven days to leave the country, the first such expulsion since World War II.

Canberra also designated the IRGC a “terrorist organisation” and withdrew its diplomats from Tehran.

At the time, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation had gathered credible evidence that Iran “orchestrated” last year’s attacks on a kosher restaurant and a synagogue, but did not release the evidence.

The tariffs are a good idea, frankly, and some temporary pain in the US market should be tolerable.

It would also be better for the markets, long term, to force companies to produce things in America, and if we can remove tens of millions of brown people from our country, the wages would rise enough that Americans could easily afford to pay higher prices for American produced products.

Also, if the government is going to get rid of stupid regulations, and allow for small businesses to offer solutions to the expensive production costs in this country, there is no reason that producing things in America should be that much more expensive. Trump has a strategy for all of this, and the key is getting rid of these immigrants. Unfortunately, the current rate at which he is deporting people is nowhere near extreme enough to fix anything. In fact, organized crime is probably actually good for the economy, if we isolate it from the other problems it causes.

We need to see much larger scale deportations, and he needs to start that very quickly while people are still shocked by the rate at which things are moving.

Mexico has refused a request from President Donald Trump’s administration to allow a U.S. military aircraft deporting migrants to land in the country, a U.S. official and a Mexican official told Reuters.

U.S. military aircraft carried out two similar flights, each with about 80 migrants, to Guatemala on Friday. The government was not able to move ahead with a plan to have a C-17 transport aircraft land in Mexico, however, after the country denied permission.

A U.S. official and a Mexican official confirmed the decision, which was first reported by NBC News.

Mexico’s foreign ministry, in a statement late on Friday, said the country had a “very great relationship” with the U.S. and cooperated on issues such as immigration.

“When it comes to repatriations, we will always accept the arrival of Mexicans to our territory with open arms,” the ministry said.

The Mexican official did not give a reason for the denial of permission to land, while the foreign ministry did not mention the incident.

Trump’s administration earlier this week announced it was re-launching the program known as “Remain in Mexico,” which forced non-Mexican asylum seekers to wait in Mexico until their cases in the United States were resolved.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Wednesday such a move would require the country receiving the asylum-seekers to agree, and that Mexico had not done so.

The U.S. State Department and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The art gallery claimed the point of exercising brute force on an object that looks like a former president’s head was to protest against how Trump supposedly is “spreading hate.” The group tried to explain the obvious contradiction by saying, “Freedom Kick is an appeal to the American sense of justice as a match between two opposing teams. The rules are meant to protect us from cheaters. We believe it is time to reset the game, before we have to spend another four years watching a cheeseburger-scarfing, bloviating mess hobble up and down the pitch spreading hate.”

Mexican authorities arrested soldiers who were part of a patrol that opened fire on a pickup truck killing six migrants, federal prosecutors said on Thursday, two days after the incident.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the killings, which happened the day she was inaugurated, and the country’s Catholic bishops sharply criticized the growing power of the military.

Six people died and 10 were injured in southern Chiapas state on Tuesday near the border with Guatemala after soldiers fired on the truck transporting 33 migrants.

“It’s a regrettable event and it must be investigated and punished,” said Sheinbaum during a press conference. “A situation like this cannot be repeated.”

Mexican federal prosecutors have identified three of the victims as Egyptian nationals, while one came from Honduras and another from Peru. Sheinbaum noted that one of the dead migrants was from El Salvador.

So, uhhhh.

When they invented “hate crimes,” they said that the same crime can have different punishments based on the context.

This has always been a little bit true, as there have always been “mitigating circumstances,” even in the case of murder. For instance, if you walk in on your wife having sex with another man and you kill one or both of them, that is different than plotting to kill your wife because you’re fed up with her shit and then following through with the plot.

If you kill your wife as soon as you discover her with another man, you are typically going to get a softer sentence, because everyone sort of understands and sympathizes with you, even though murder is still a serious crime and you must be punished for it regardless.

“Hate crimes” are a lot different. Firstly, they can’t really be proved. If a white guy kills a black guy during an argument in a parking lot, any prosecutor is going to look into his social media and see if they can find him making some racist comment and then claim it’s a federal hate crime. You can’t actually prove that the fact the guy was black was related to the murder. Even if the guy is on video calling the victim the n-word, that doesn’t actually prove that if the victim had been another white man, you wouldn’t have done the exact same thing. These are not like “mitigating circumstances,” where the key word is “circumstances,” this is a baseless claim about what a man was thinking at the time the time he committed a crime.

I guess because that sort of thing doesn’t really make sense, now they’re just saying that there are protected groups whose lives are worth more than other people’s lives, regardless of circumstances. That’s actually a good way of streamlining the “hate crimes” thing.

Despite the footage and witness testimonies, a judge considered there was insufficient evidence to hold the man and released him after 48 hours, since which time he has been on the run.

That night in 2016 turned Cuevas into an activist. And last week, after years of campaigning, Mexico City passed a law making transfemicide a crime with a prison sentence of up to 70 years – a “watershed” moment in one of Latin America’s deadliest countries for trans people.

“For the first time, we can feel represented before the law, and that violence against us really carries a severe punishment,” said Cuevas at a gathering on Sunday to recognise the victory. “For the first time, I can feel some satisfaction, some peace, after all these long years of work.”

The law, named in honour of Buenrostro, was passed almost unanimously in the state congress.

Mexico City is the second of the country’s 32 states to criminalise transfemicide. Earlier this year, Nayarit, a small state on the Pacific coast, introduced sentences of up to 60 years for the crime.

Mexico’s average sentence for premeditated murder is 30 years, twice that of non-premediated (based on data I was able to find just now). “Premeditated” is always worse than getting in a fight with someone and killing them. This is reasonable, given that plotting to kill someone is very different than a situation where things get out of control and you end up killing someone based on your emotions that you’re feeling at the time. Killing anyone is always a big crime, but these two types of murder are different, and halving the sentence when you didn’t plan the murder (or doubling it when you did plan it, whichever way you want to view it) is logical and just.

People should not kill hookers.

However, planning to kill a hooker is very rare. Prostitution is obviously associated with drugs and a generally seedy atmosphere, and this creates the types of conditions where you would expect things to get out of hand and for murder to happen more often in this type of environment.

A non-premeditated prostitute murder is not rare, and prostitutes know this, they are putting themselves in situations they know are dangerous in order to make money doing something immoral, which should really lighten the sentence for killing them. But lets say you just get the normal sentence for killing a prostitute: it’s probably going to be 15 years. Now, if that prostitute is a man dressed like a woman, you are going to be sentenced to nearly 5 times that? And more than twice what you would get for the premeditated murder of your wife?

This is very strange.

But we have to admit: it does make more sense than US “hate crimes enhancement” laws.

Sheinbaum, a 61-year-old climate scientist and former mayor of Mexico City, won the presidency with 59.5% of the vote, according to a rapid sample count by Mexico’s electoral authority.

During the campaign, Sheinbaum portrayed herself as a continuity candidate, vowing to keep the policies of her populist predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, known popularly as Amlo, who founded the Morena party in 2014 and forged a bond with voters disenchanted with democracy.

López Obrador was constitutionally unable to run again, but chose Sheinbaum as his successor – and she appears to have won 5m votes more than he did six years ago.

“In the 200 years of the republic, I will become the first woman president of Mexico,” Sheinbaum told supporters in a victory speech late on Sunday, to loud cheers of “presidenta, presidenta” – the feminine form of the country’s top political post.

Thanks in part to a constitutional amendment that set the goal of gender parity in all races for elected office and in appointments for top jobs in government, women now hold half the seats in Mexico’s congress and almost half the jobs in cabinet and one-third of the governorships.

Activists will hope to see this prominence of female leaders translate into policy.

Just to be clear, fornication is a mortal sin, and I encourage everyone to avoid all sins.

In terms of this situation where you can’t really even get a wife and so you are either forced to either never have sex at all (and get erections at the gym) or jack off (very mortal sin) or be some bitch’s “boyfriend” (basically a little doggie) OR smash some 8/10 hooker for $100, I personally think that you’re going to be judge differently than a guy who could have had a wife (or did have a wife) and decided on whores.
