There could only be a showdown with Facebook if the US government allowed Europe to have such a showdown. Europe does not have independent policies, all of them are dictated to them by the United States. Obviously, they have stricter speech rules than the US (at least technically), but those rules are all driven by the US desire to shut down speech globally.

Just look at the way the Germans have gone along with supporting Ukraine terrorism against their country, gone along with collapsing their own industrial sector, because the US tells them to do that. It’s ridiculous and humiliating.

However, US organs at the State Department probably do not agree with Donald Trump easing the restrictions on speech rules in America, and they will likely use European bodies to attack those changes.

Sweeping changes to the policing of Meta’s social media platforms have set the tech company on a collision course with legislators in the UK and the European Union, experts and political figures have said.

Lawmakers in Brussels and London criticised Mark Zuckerberg’s decision to scrap factcheckers in the US for Facebook, Instagram and Threads, with one labelling it “quite frightening”.

The changes to Meta’s global policies on hateful content now include allowing users to call transgender people “it”, with the guidelines stating: “We do allow allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation.”

Chi Onwurah, the Labour MP and chair of the science and technology committee for the House of Commons, which is investigating how online disinformation fuelled last summer’s riots, said Zuckerberg’s decision to replace professional factcheckers with users policing the accuracy of posts was “concerning” and “quite frightening”.

“To hear that Meta is removing all its factcheckers [in the US] is concerning … people have a right to be protected from the harmful effects of misinformation,” she said. “The fact that Zuckerberg said he’s following the example of X must raise concerns when we compare how X is a platform for misinformation to a greater extent than Facebook has been.”

Chi Onwurah is frightened.

Meta’s move, which Zuckerberg made clear was a response to the incoming Donald Trump presidency, also prompted predictions that a major challenge is coming from the Trump administration against laws such as the Online Safety Act.

The former UK technology minister, Damian Collins, said such a challenge will “most likely be made through trade negotiations where pressure will be brought against the UK to accept American standards for digital regulation”.

A Meta whistleblower told the Guardian: “I am extremely concerned about what this means for teenagers.”

Teenagers are useless anyway.

Arturo Béjar, a former senior engineer whose responsibilities at Meta included child safety measures, said: “They will be increasingly exposed to all the content categories that they need to be protected against.”

Harmful content, including violent or pornographic material, could reach young users more easily, Bejar said, citing Zuckerberg’s statement that tackling “lower severity” transgressions will now rely on users flagging content before Meta acts on it.

Zuckerberg has said his policy of ditching factcheckers applies only in the US for now, but his broadside against Europe has raised concerns that he is planning to roll out the approach in Europe.

It’s very expensive for these companies to do all of this censorship, which I think is why they’re all excited to stop doing it. With Twitter, it was something like 75% of employees at the company were working in the censorship department.

It’s all ridiculous, and hopefully we’re getting to the point where we can ask about personal responsibility, and start asking if it is possible for the government to view people as adults who are capable of making their own decisions.

Obviously, the idea that the government would view its citizens as adults capable of making decisions is far outside of established norms in the current year, with the government having moved to treat everyone like a little baby. Clearly, everyone in the government prefers to have strict policies that allow them to control what people think and do.

The Israelis are not just going to pass around their 1337 haxx0rs, and people wouldn’t know how to use them anyway.

Legal documents released in ongoing US litigation between NSO Group and WhatsApp have revealed for the first time that the Israeli cyberweapons maker – and not its government customers – is the party that “installs and extracts” information from mobile phones targeted by the company’s hacking software.

The new details were contained in sworn depositions from NSO Group employees, portions of which were published for the first time on Thursday.

It comes five years after WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Facebook, first announced it was filing suit against NSO. The company, which was blacklisted by the Biden administration in 2021, makes what is widely considered the world’s most sophisticated hacking software, which – according to researchers – has been used in the past in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, India, Mexico, Morocco and Rwanda.

WhatsApp filed suit in California in 2019 after it revealed that it had discovered that 1,400 of its users – including journalists and human rights activists – had been targeted by the spyware over a two-week period.

At the heart of the legal fight was an allegation by WhatsApp that NSO had long denied: that it was the Israeli company itself, and not its government clients around the world, who were operating the spyware. NSO has always said that its product is meant to be used to prevent serious crime and terrorism, and that clients are obligated not to abuse the spyware. It has also insisted that it does not know who its clients are targeting.

WhatsApp is seeking a summary judgment in the case, which means it is asking a judge to rule on the case now. NSO has opposed the motion.

The Israelis are not geniuses for being really heavy into hacking. It’s just that this stuff would be illegal in any other country.

Russians are peak autism, really good at this sort of thing, but it’s illegal in Russia. They allow a certain amount of cybercrime, obviously, but they wouldn’t allow a company to just set up shop selling backdoors. Everyone would be angry. The Jews are the only group of people who can get away with this, and that works well for the Americans.

So, I know this is uncomfortable, but the thing is… we are already at the point where we can’t actually know if a video is real, and therefore the default position should be that anything you see on the internet is fake unless you have reason to believe otherwise.

That was apparently made with open source software. Although I don’t think closed source AI is going to remain superior to open source AI, it is right now, so these companies (and therefore the government) already have the ability to do a lot better than that video. And in a year’s time, the open source stuff will catch up and be indistinguishable from reality.

People should exploit this situation and create massive amounts of disinformation in order to promote the political agenda. The other side is definitely going to be doing that.

Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, announced on Friday it had built a new artificial intelligence model called Movie Gen that can create realistic-seeming video and audio clips in response to user prompts, claiming it can rival tools from leading media generation startups like OpenAI and ElevenLabs.

Samples of Movie Gen’s creations provided by Meta showed videos of animals swimming and surfing, as well as clips using people’s real photos to depict them performing actions like painting on a canvas.

Movie Gen also can generate background music and sound effects synced to the content of the videos, Meta said in a blogpost. Users can also edit existing videos with the model.

That’s what’s going to be easiest at first – replacing faces with other faces and changing real video.

Horny Korean teenage boys are leading the way here, apparently.

In one such video, Meta had the tool insert pompoms into the hands of a man running by himself in the desert, while in another it changed a parking lot on which a man was skateboarding from dry ground into one covered by a splashing puddle.

Videos created by Movie Gen can be up to 16 seconds long, while audio can be up to 45 seconds long, Meta said. It shared data showing blind tests indicating that the model performs favorably compared with offerings from startups including Runway, OpenAI, ElevenLabs and Kling.

Meta spokespeople said the company was unlikely to release Movie Gen for open use by developers, as it has with its Llama series of large-language models, saying it considers the risks individually for each model. They declined to comment on Meta’s assessment for Movie Gen specifically.

They probably will release it, because they want people working with their models and that’s the way to do it, but it doesn’t matter if they do or don’t, the ship is out of the bottle. Closed source, scam that it is, cannot possibly contain AI development. AI is too important for that nonsense.

Meta is putting Instagram users under the age of 18 into new “teen accounts” to allow parents greater control over their activities, including the ability to block children from viewing the app at night.

In an announcement made a week after the Australian government proposed restricting children from accessing such platforms, Meta says it is launching teen accounts for Instagram that will apply to new users. The setting will then be extended to existing accounts held by teenagers over time.

Changes under the teen account setting include giving parents the ability to set daily time limits for using the app, block teens from using Instagram at certain times, see the accounts their child is messaging and viewing the content categories they are viewing.

Teenagers signing up to Instagram are already placed by default into the strictest privacy settings, which include barring adults from messaging teens who don’t follow them and muting notifications at night.

However, under the new “teen account” feature users under the age of 16 will now need parental permission to change those settings, while 16-18 year olds defaulted into the new features will be able to change them independently. Once an under-16 tries to change their settings, the parental supervision features will allow adults to set new time limits, block access at night and view who their child is exchanging messages with.

It came after the Australian government last week announced plans to introduce legislation to parliament by the end of the year to raise the age children can access social media up to an as-yet-undefined age between 14 and 16.

But unlike other actions the company has taken recently – including by allowing EU users to opt-out of having their data used to train its AI model but not offering a similar option in Australia – Meta’s move is global and will apply to the US, UK and Canada as well as Australia.

Parents apparently do not have any responsibility to raise their kids anymore.

Just like it’s the school’s job to decide your children’s sexuality, it’s Facebook’s job to prevent them from killing themselves.

Is “From the River to the Sea” hatespeech?

It might not sound as though it is, but actually, it is, because anything Jews don’t like is hatespeech.

Several members of Meta’s Oversight Board – which faced intense criticism after it determined the anti-Israel phrase “from the river to the sea” doesn’t constitute hate speech – have espoused views critical of Israel’s actions in Gaza.

The advisory board, which claims to be independent from Meta, determined that Facebook and Instagram users can use the controversial slogan – which has sprung up at anti-Israeli protests around the country – as long as it is not used in a way that glorifies Hamas or calls for violence.

Founded in 2020 with approval from Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg, the Oversight Board currently consists of 21 members who “come from a variety of cultural and professional backgrounds, speak more than 30 languages and are chosen to be reflective of the diverse users of Facebook, Instagram and Threads,” according to its website.

Yeah, you put a bunch of brown people on your censorship board, they’re going to side with Palestine. That’s the way it goes, Jews. Get over it.

Yet past remarks by several members call into question their ability to remain impartial regarding the slogan, which refers to the idea of a Palestinian state stretching across the land in between the Jordan River and Mediterranean Sea – the land currently controlled by Israel.

Its members include Tawakkol Karman, a Yemini activist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, who declared in a speech last May at the Vatican that the “world is silent in front of the genocide and the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people in Gaza.” Israel denounced her speech as “flagrantly anti-Semitic.”

Alan Rusbridger, the former editor-in-chief of left-leaning UK news outlet The Guardian, penned a column earlier this year arguing that, while “real and vile antisemitism” does exist, the “horrors of 7 October most certainly did not happen in a vacuum.” He also weighed in on the debate over “from the river to the sea.”

“Some even thought the chant worthy of prosecution. Yet Netanyahu recently pronounced that Israel “must have security control over the entire territory west of the Jordan River” – thereby wiping out the idea of a state of Palestine. Is one sayable, and the other not?” Rusbridger wrote.

Nighat Dad, the director of the Pakistan-based Digital Rights Foundation, accused Facebook in a 2018 column of caving to Israel by “silencing the voices of a historically victimized people for calling of what can rightfully be called an occupying state is confirmation of the influence that some governments have on Silicon Valley tech giants.”

Endy Bayuni, an Oversight Board member and senior editor at the Jakarta Post, penned a column last April that argued Indonesia “should be seen championing an independent Palestinian state and full membership of the United Nations.”

The Oversight Board did not reveal which of its members had participated in the vote or a tally of how many had voted for and against the decision. The Post has reached out to the board for comment.

I was writing in 2014 that Zuck was refusing former ADL head Abe Foxman’s demands that he stop Holocaust denial on Facebook. He went as hard as he could fighting against censorship, until he was forced to by the ADL manipulating advertisers and the federal government threatening him.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted Monday that the Biden administration pressured Facebook to censor COVID-19 content and acknowledged it was wrong to stifle The Post’s coverage of Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop.

In an explosive letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Zuckerberg wrote that “senior Biden administration officials, including the White House, repeatedly pressured” Meta to “censor” content related to the coronavirus pandemic in 2021.

The content the Biden administration requested that Meta take down included “humor and satire,” according to the Facebook founder, and he said he regrets complying with certain demands.

“I believe the government pressure was wrong, and I regret that we were not more outspoken about it,” he wrote. “I also think we made some choices that, with the benefit of hindsight and new information, we wouldn’t make today.”

Zuckerberg, 40, vowed that things will be different in future should the government make similar requests.

It probably won’t be much different, because the government has the ability to do anything they want to Zuckerberg’s companies.

But it’s pretty notable that he is going out there and saying this at all. The Democrat Party has really pissed off Silicon Valley. I’m sure Zuck’s reasons for not wanting to censor are not principled (he is Jewish, after all). But whatever the reasons are – probably, he just doesn’t care and doesn’t want to shrink his user-base – he is mad that these people are meddling in his business.

He’s not being as aggressive as Elon in denouncing the Democrats, but he did refuse to endorse the Democrats this year. As far as we can tell, everyone in Silicon Valley is sick of being told what to do by these people.

They are probably all doing whatever they can to rig the election for Trump. I would think they would be doing that. But who knows what they can actually do. After the election, if it is rigged for Kamala, they can allow people to talk about the fact it was rigged, but then they would probably be worried about a crackdown if they are unable to get voter audits or whatever.

We shall see soon enough. There are only 9 days until the election*.

Meta Platforms’ Instagram failed to remove abusive comments aimed at female politicians who are potential candidates for the 2024 U.S. elections, according to a report by the non-profit Center for Countering Digital Hate on Wednesday.

The report analyzed over half a million comments on Instagram posts by five Democratic and five Republican women politicians, including Senator Elizabeth Warren, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris, Senator Marsha Blackburn and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

CCDH flagged over 20,000 comments as “toxic,” with 1,000 of these comments containing sexist and racist abuse, as well as death and rape threats. Instagram left up 93% of the harmful comments even after breaching the platform’s standards.

In response to the report, Meta said it has tools in place for users to control comments on their posts, including filtering out offensive comments, phrases or emojis.

This is because unlike Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg actually believes in freedom.

He’s also jacked and a cool person and a nice guy.

CCDH is a criminal group, and even that slimebag Jim Jordan admitted it.

Saying something like “I hope you get raped” is not illegal and it’s also not a threat. I don’t encourage anyone to say that, and I suspect if you say it to a politician online with your real name (or real IP address) there is a good chance the FBI will show up at your door.

The Israeli government took extraordinary measures to frustrate a high-stakes US lawsuit that threatened to reveal closely guarded secrets about one of the world’s most notorious hacking tools, leaked files suggest.

Israeli officials seized documents about Pegasus spyware from its manufacturer, NSO Group, in an effort to prevent the company from being able to comply with demands made by WhatsApp in a US court to hand over information about the invasive technology.

Documents suggest the seizures were part of an unusual legal manoeuvre created by Israel to block the disclosure of information about Pegasus, which the government believed would cause “serious diplomatic and security damage” to the country.

Pegasus allows NSO clients to infect smartphones with hidden software that can extract messages and photos, record calls and secretly activate microphones. NSO’s clients have included both authoritarian regimes and democratic countries and the technology has been linked to human rights abuses around the world.

Since late 2019, NSO has been battling a lawsuit in the US brought by WhatsApp, which has alleged the Israeli company used a vulnerability in the messaging service to target more than 1,400 of its users in 20 countries over a two-week period. NSO has denied the allegations.

The removal of files and computers from NSO’s offices in July 2020 – until now hidden from the public by a strict gag order issued by an Israeli court – casts new light on the close ties between Israel and NSO and the overlapping interests of the privately owned surveillance company and the country’s security establishment.

The July 2020 seizures were made after Israeli officials and the company appear to have discussed how to respond to WhatsApp’s requests for NSO to disclose internal files about its spyware, raising questions about whether they coordinated to conceal certain information from US legal proceedings.

At one stage, one of NSO’s lawyers, Rod Rosenstein, a former US deputy attorney general in the Trump administration, appears to have asked one of Israel’s US lawyers whether the Israeli government would “come to the rescue” in the legal battle with WhatsApp.

Meta has frequently called out Trump’s posts for containing misinformation and breaching content rules on its platforms. It also suspended his Facebook and Instagram accounts for about two years following the January 2021 Capitol riots. Zuckerberg said Meta was making changes that he hoped would mean Facebook was not as much of a flashpoint in elections going forward.

“I think you’re going to see our services play less of a role in this election than they have in the past,” the report quoted him as saying.

Yeah, he is really pissed the government made him fake an election and then fake a virus hoax when all he wanted to do was create personal models of everyone’s lives so he could build a super-intelligence that knows everything about everyone.

So… Facebook is helping Donald Trump now?

After banning him forever?

What is going on?

Meta has removed previous restrictions on the Facebook and Instagram accounts of Donald Trump as the 2024 election nears, the company announced on Friday.

Trump was allowed to return to the social networks in 2023 with “guardrails” in place, after being banned over his online behavior during the 6 January insurrection. Those guardrails have now been removed.

“In assessing our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from the nominees for president on the same basis,” Meta said in a blogpost, citing the Republican national convention, slated for next week, which will formalize Trump as the party’s candidate.

Well, it seems like that should have been obvious before. To everyone.

But according to Zuck, the FBI told them to censor Trump because he is evil.

As a result, Meta said, Trump’s accounts will no longer be subject to heightened suspension penalties, which Meta said were created in response to “extreme and extraordinary circumstances” and “have not had to be deployed”.

“All US presidential candidates remain subject to the same community standards as all Facebook and Instagram users, including those policies designed to prevent hate speech and incitement to violence,” the company’s blogpost reads.

Frankly, it looks like Donald Trump is going to be president again.

Maybe not. I don’t make predictions about shit no more. None of anything makes any sense, so you can’t follow nothing to make no predictions.

Frankly, I don’t see any reason why Joe Biden can’t “win” even if he is only polling at 30%. The media can just say “well, it looks like everyone changed their mind at the last moment – and you know what happens if you complain about this, so we’d advise you to keep your mouth shut.”

But that isn’t what is happening here. The media is attacking Joe Biden, aggressively, after having set him up to fail at that debate.

So either they are going to switch him out for a new candidate or Trump is going to win.

If Trump wins, I’d advise you to get the hell out of the country, because he is going to make Biden’s wars look like fun time at the petting zoo.
