A sex attacker whose victim rang her mum and dad for help during her ordeal has been caged.

The woman was ‘senseless with drink’ when ‘predatory’ Habtom Abraham ‘picked her up’ in town, Judge David Stockdale QC said, locking him up for two-and-a-half years.

The woman had no memory of meeting Abraham, 25, when she woke up to find him lying on top of her with his trousers on, following a night out at the Printworks in the city centre.

She was wearing only her underwear and was lying on a mattress in his basement flat.

Abraham gave her clothes, but then blocked the door to stop her fleeing. He eventually let her go to the toilet, where she rang her parents for help.

A brutal who punched girls as young as 13 in TEN violent robberies was snared by mobile phone tracking.

Traval Fagan attacked females walking in isolated spots on or around the Fallowfield Loop, the cycle track which runs from Chorlton to Gorton. He was captured after police concerned by the spate of robberies launched an investigation across two GMP divisions, and he has now been jailed for six years and four months.

Most of Fagan’s victims were young girls or women walking in dimly-lit areas on their own, Prosecutor Henry Blackshaw told Manchester Crown Court.

The robber sneaked up on victims on a mountain bike, ran at them, grabbed them by the throats, and punched them in the face when they fought back or held onto their handbags and phones.

He was caught after he targeted visiting opera singer Janet Fischer, then 31. She bit him during a frenzied tussle in an alleyway off Brookfield Avenue, Chorlton, and his DNA was found on a glove he left at the scene.

Fagan, 22, who stood trial for similar robberies two years ago and was cleared, denied the Chorlton offence when confronted by police. But because mobile phones register at masts as their users travel past, officers were able to trace his movements from his Caythorpe Street, Moss Side home to the scene of the Chorlton robbery and a string of others.

He went on to admit ten robbery charges between October 2013 and January last year.

A senior police officer with the Greater Manchester Police in the United Kingdom has blamed a target-driven culture and political correctness for the lack of police response to the abuse suffered by young girls at the hands of Asian sex gangs in Rochdale.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, retired Detective Inspector Merial Buglass said she had had “many sleepless nights” knowing that the abuse was ongoing but lacking permission from her superiors to investigate further. She says that the culture within the force was driven by meeting Home Office targets, and also that senior management were more concerned about political correctness than stopping the abuse.

“Management appeared not to be interested, they were only interested in targets, it was a completely target-driven culture,” she said. “The main priorities were acquisitive crime – robbery, burglary and car theft. Money was being piled into [the investigation of] these crimes.

“They didn’t want to class the abuse as Asian on white girls. They didn’t want to cause a fuss. I took the view that this wasn’t about racism, it was about child abuse – but political correctness and cultural sensitivities were important to management.”

In April 2010, whilst in her role as head of Rochdale Police’s public protection unit, Ms Buglass compiled a report detailing how predominantly white children, some as young as 12, were being groomed by gangs of Asian men as sex-slaves, and were violently abused. It has since emerged that some of the girls who were attacked in Rochdale between 1997 and 2013 were murdered at the hands of the men. The report included the details of 35 children, ten perpetrators and a further 40 suspects, and contained a plea for more resources to be granted to further investigate the heinous crimes.

The day after the report was filed, Buglass met with Superintendent Martin Greenhalgh. During the meeting, she alleges he essentially told her “If I choose to investigate it, we will,” and that she replied “This is huge, there are massive threats and it will come back to bite us if you don’t do something!”

Yet she was told to focus on domestic crime instead because it “featured on performance targets.” Frustrated, Buglass took the report higher and was promised resources, but it took a further eight months, during which she was aware that children were being abused, before those resources were forthcoming “and then [the investigation] was taken away from me”.

No motive for the arson attack has been mentioned so far, but we do know that Muslims hate dogs and consider them unclean, in fact, they have even been known to try to prevent dog walkers from walking their pets in areas which they have colonised.

Pet lovers from around the world have donated more than £1million to Manchester Dogs Home after a horrific blaze killed 53 animals on Thursday night.

It emerged yesterday that the dogs which died had been ready to be rehomed with families after being rehabilitated at the centre.

Police spent the day questioning a  15-year-old arrested on suspicion of arson.

Wellwishers took food, bedding and toys to the home’s sister branch in Warrington which was caring for 150 dogs saved from the blaze by staff, neighbours and firemen.

Money poured in to the home’s JustGiving page from as far afield as Australia, the US and Canada, as thousands of social media users posted ‘dog selfies’ to promote the cause.

Police confirmed that 53 dogs had died in the blaze, which home manager Lisa Graham said was concentrated in kennels dedicated to dogs which were ready for adoption. All but two of those dogs died. She said: ‘The dogs in there were dogs that were relying on us to find them homes.’

All the staff were upset, she added, particularly those who worked in the kennels.

‘It has been hard for everyone but the kennel staff are suffering the most,’ she said. ‘They have been caring for them, and feeding them and rehabilitating them.’

It took 30 firemen just over an hour to bring the blaze under control.

Colin Ballance, who has worked at the centre for 25 years, risked his life to save a crossbreed dog and a Staffordshire cross from the burning adoption kennel.

He said: ‘I just ran straight towards where the fire was, pulled the doors open, and all the roof and timbers and everything else was burning away.

‘I couldn’t let them all out, that was a risk to them and a risk to everybody, so I grabbed the first two. By the time I got them out and took them to an outside pen further away, I turned back to go back and you couldn’t even see in front of you – the smoke was horrendous, it was just choking.

‘I didn’t sleep last night because I was just thinking about all the dogs. It was the fact that when we ran in they were all there but there was nothing we could do. There were bits falling from the ceiling. All you could hear was dogs barking. It was just a nightmare.’

I think we can accurately predict the ethnicity of this driver, after seeing it happen countless times before.

He deliberately aimed for an 11-year-old White boy and then just continued driving after running him over.

Luckily the boy was not badly harmed and was back at school the next day.

This is the shocking moment a hit and run motorist ploughed into an 11-year-old boy before driving away.

The driver of the turquoise Honda Civic mowed down the schoolboy on Victoria Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, Gtr Manchester on September 2.

Shocking footage shows the car swerving into the boy, who was flung to the ground, before driving away.

The boy was taken to hospital and incredibly only suffered minor injuries.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

PC Adrian Spurrell from Greater Manchester Police said: “The CCTV is crystal clear – the driver collided with a young boy then callously drove off, leaving him slumped in the road.

“Remarkably he only missed one day of school after suffering minor injuries but clearly the injuries could have been far worse or even fatal.

“To leave a young boy shocked and injured in the road, when you have no idea how seriously injured he may or may not be, shows a worrying level of apathy and regard for his welfare and I need the public’s help to identify the driver.

“If you know the driver or have information about them or the car, please call us.

“Perhaps someone you know has a similar car, came home in a state of shock or has been acting differently since the accident – if so I want to hear from you.

“I would also invite the driver to come forward now and talk to us of their own volition.”

It is a city which has been described by its own police as ‘too dangerous’ to go out in after midnight.

So a few eyebrows were raised yesterday when Greater Manchester Police revealed the latest tool in its crime-fighting armoury: a rainbow-coloured patrol car.

Resplendent with multi-coloured flashing lights instead of the traditional blue, the ‘rainbow car’ is intended to combat homophobic hate crime.

The brand new Hyundai has been condemned as ‘tacky’ by gay rights campaigners.

It will lead the city’s Pride parade in August before being put into operation in suburban areas to raise awareness of homophobic crime.

The car, funded by donations from businesses, will not be sent to hate crime incidents, instead it is intended to reassure victims that police are approachable.

David Allison, of the gay rights group OutRage!, said he doubted whether the ‘rainbow car’ would help victims.

He added: ‘It may be a bit tacky from an aesthetic point of view.

‘At least it will draw attention to a police car in a particular vicinity, so it will heighten visibility which will help deter potential wrongdoers. But I can’t see it going further than that.

‘If it is indicating that police are trying to take the issue more seriously, and this is their PR way of advertising that, then fair enough.

‘But I don’t know how successful they will be – it’s not going to revolutionise the worst parts of Manchester.’

Asked at the launch whether the rainbow-striped car could be viewed as patronising, Sir Peter said: ‘It would be patronising if we weren’t doing a huge amount of other things to work with the gay community and to fight hate crime.

The nurse accused of murdering and poisoning patients with medical supplies at Stepping Hill hospital will appear at court to enter pleas in October.

Victorino Domingo Chua today appeared by videolink at Manchester Crown Court for an administrative hearing where a date for his plea hearing was set.

The trial, due to begin in January 2015, is expected to last until Easter with Mr Justice Openshaw presiding.

The hearing will feature over 619 witnesses and 27,000 pages of statements and exhibits, with expert evidence central to the case. Mr Chua is currently being held on remand at Strangeways prison.

Charged in March, over two years after his arrest, the 48-year-old, of Churchill Street, Stockport, faces 34 counts in total, including three murders. He is alleged to have murdered Tracey Arden on July 7, 2011, and Alfred Weaver and Arnold Lancaster between June 1 and July 12 of that year.

He is also charged with the grievous bodily harm of one patient, poisoning a second, attempting to poison seven more and 22 more counts of attempted grievous bodily harm.

It is alleged there were 32 separate victims between June 1, 2011, and January 3, 2012.

A former police officer jailed for four years after killing a father-of-two and maiming his wife in a hit and run is back behind bars after breaching a driving ban THIRTY times.

Mohammed Mian, 35, of Gredle Close, Urmston, who served with the Metropolitan Police, was travelling at twice the speed limit when he ploughed into Steve Campbell, 49, and his wife, Rosemary, 53.

The couple were walking to their Urmston home in the early hours of New Year’s Day when they were hit by a powerful Volvo car driven by Mian, who had already been disqualified from driving twice.

Mian was returning home from a club in Fallowfield where he worked as a doorman.

He was jailed in 2009 after pleading guilty to death by dangerous driving and also given a five year driving ban.

But he has now been jailed for four months and given another 12-month driving disqualification after police caught him driving a green Mercedes on Humphrey Lane, Urmston this week.

As he was sentenced at Trafford Magistrates yesterday, the chairman of the bench said: “Your blatant disregard for court orders is quite frankly astonishing.”

After arresting Mian on Wednesday, officer’s from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit made further inquiries and established that Mian had breached his ban by driving to work on at least 29 other occasions.

Sgt Lee Westhead of the unit, said: “Mian treated his disqualification with contempt and showed no resmorse for his actions.

“The Unit will not tolerate driving from those persons disqualified having been convicted of causing death or serious injury on the roads of Manchester.

“We will pursue such people endlessly and go to great lengths to gather evidence against them.”

When jailed in 2009 the court was told Mian had his mobile phone in his hand shortly before the accident in Stretford Road.

He was oblivious to flashing signs warning drivers if they exceeded the 30mph limit and failed to stop after the crash.

Mr Campbell was killed almost instantly and his wife, who was in a coma for six days suffered spinal injuries and her left leg had to be amuputated below the knee.

Just months after the fatal collision, but before Mian was sentenced, he was caught speeding in a 30mph zone.

A murderer who stabbed a gap-year student to death in a random street attack could have been stopped if police had launched a ‘thorough and timely’ investigation into a similar attack two weeks before, an investigation has found.

Gap-year student Kieran Crump-Raiswell, 18, was handing out his CV in Manchester city centre when he was knifed to death in broad daylight by Imran Hussain, 27, in January last year.

The assassin walked up to the teenager and stabbed him four times in the chest because he ‘simply wanted to see what it’s like to kill someone’.

But a probe by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) found Hussain could have been stopped from committing the fatal attack, if officers had investigated a ‘trial-run’ that Hussain carried out twelve days earlier.

In that attack, the defendant ran up to another stranger in Nottingham and punched him, before driving off in his vehicle.

The victim made a note of Hussain’s vehicle registration number and reported the incident to police on January 4.

But Hussain was not tracked down by police – and was ’emboldened’ to carry out the second attack.

In its report, the IPCC said the officer who investigated the incident ‘did not pursue appropriate lines of inquiry’ – despite having the vehicle registration number and a description of the assailant.

The officer also failed to properly handle evidence, keep an adequate record of evidence within his pocket notebook, promptly create a crime report or keep it adequately updated.

IPCC commissioner Sarah Green said: ‘This was a shocking and unprovoked murder of a promising young student. My thoughts are with Kieran’s family and friends at this difficult time.

‘We will sadly never know whether a more prompt investigation might have deterred Imran Hussain from going on to commit the grave crime of murder, but it is clear that the officer did not investigate the initial assault quickly and thoroughly enough, despite being provided with clear lines of inquiry.

‘There are lessons for Nottinghamshire Police to learn from these events to improve the service they provide in future.’

Mr Crump-Raiswell had been accepted to study history at Sheffield Hallam University and had just returned from the US where he had been coaching football when the murder took place.

He was heading into Manchester to find a job when he was attacked in front of stunned witnesses.

Hussain was then seen by witnesses to be laughing and sniggering as he ran back to his car and drove to his student flat in Coventry. The teenager died later the same day in hospital.

The grieving family of a music fan who was beaten to death in a random attack at a festival have made a heart-breaking appeal to find the man’s killer.

Robert Hart, 26, suffered fatal head injuries after being attacked in front of his girlfriend at the Parklife Weekender Festival in Manchester.

It is believed Mr Hart was punched to the floor and knocked unconscious as he stepped in to protect Gemma Parry after she was hit in the back with an inflatable doll.

The attack took place as 67,000 people converged on Heaton Park to see R’n’B-turned reggae star Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion aka Snoopzilla perform live.

Two off-duty medical staff rushed to Mr Hart’s aid and gave him CPR. He was rushed to hospital but died four days later after suffering a bleed to the brain.

Today his mother Elaine, 65, from Rainow, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, broke down as she made an appeal for the killer to come forward.

Mrs Hart, who was supported by her family and Miss Parry, 32, said: ‘I have lost my son who I absolutely adored, as I do all of my children.

‘He would come home and hug me and as he got older he got taller and taller and made me feel small. I just looked forward to him coming home so much.

‘He would sometimes call me Elaine or mum but quite often he would still say mummy.

‘He was the kindest, warmest, and funniest man and not aggressive and we all adored him. This person has took that all away from us. They know they have done it.’

Mrs Hart later read a Mother’s Day card the victim had written to her last March.

He wrote: ‘To mummy. Wishing you all the love in the world on Mother’s Day.

‘Thanks for always being there and being an endless source of advice and love and for being a fantastic chef. Lots of love, Robert.’

Keen guitarist and Manchester City fan Mr Hart, originally from Macclesfield, lived in Liverpool with his girlfriend after attending university in the city.

The pair were said to be planning to start a family together.
