Macy’s, an anchor of so many shopping malls, plans to close 150 department stores in a bid to reinvigorate sales and shift its public image more toward luxury goods.

The company on Tuesday said it will shutter “underproductive” stores, while opening more of its better-performing, higher-end siblings: Bloomingdale’s and beauty-focused Bluemercury. Macy’s also plans to add smaller stores at outdoor shopping centers, which have been growing in sharp contrast to indoor malls.

All this is part of a do-or-die task for the quintessential American department store under a brand-new CEO. His plan, dubbed “A Bold New Chapter,” appears to acknowledge that Macy’s for years has been losing its traditional middle-class shopper — both to the yawning wealth gap dividing America and simply to other retailers, including brands that sell directly online.

Macy’s has yet to specify which stores will close, saying only that 50 will shutter this year and the rest by the end of 2026. Chief Executive Tony Spring said these locations accounted for a quarter of the company’s square footage but less than a tenth of its sales.

In January, Macy’s separately told employees it would shutter five stores and cut 2,350 jobs, around 3.5% of its workforce. This followed several other waves of closing stores and offices in recent years. The scale of layoffs from the newly announced retail closures is unclear. Once they are done, Macy’s will have 350 locations — just over half of what it had before the pandemic.

Well, the “pandemic” (there wasn’t actually a pandemic) happened at the same time as the George Floyd riots that caused the government to legalize black crime.

A white man shown in a viral video being beaten down by a black man for allegedly calling him the n-word in the middle of a Michigan Macy’s has been identified as a store employee.

Macy’s issued a statement Friday in which the company claimed the attack was ‘unprovoked’ as police hunt for the two other men involved who fled the scene.

The shocking video emerged Monday showing the Macy’s employee being pummeled in the face at the Genesee Valley Center in Flint Township.

Local rapper FT Quay shared the video on Facebook and claimed that he and a ‘bro’ went to the mall and asked a man on the phone about a shirt size.

He said the employee answered them and returned to his phone call, where he allegedly told someone on the phone ‘no one just some n****r,’ which resulted in the black man pouncing on him.

The moment the employee allegedly used the racial slur is not shown in the short clip.

Macy’s has now claimed that the attack was ‘unprovoked’ and said they are helping authorities in identifying the man shown punching the employee in the video and the man filming it.

FT Quay’s social media was taken offline as of Friday.

‘We are deeply saddened about the incident that took place on Monday (June 15) at Macy’s Genesee Valley as the safety of Macy’s customers and colleagues is our top priority,’ Andrea Schwartz, senior director of media relations for Macy’s, told MLive-The Flint Journal.

‘Violence in the workplace of any kind is unacceptable. All the materials from the evening have been reviewed and it is clear that the attack was unprovoked.

‘We are working closely with local authorities on this investigation, and will defer any further comments about the case to them per policy.’

The company did not mention that the man seen being punched in the video was an employee but this was later revealed by local law enforcement.

Police confirmed they were investigating the video on Friday after it was widely circulated on social media.

‘We are looking for them as we speak,’ township police Lt. Brad Wangler told MLive.

Basically, if you don’t want black people to act like a bunch of n-words, then don’t say the n-word.
