DETECTIVES have released another set of CCTV footage of a man they want to question in connection with the murder of Jordan Maguire two weeks ago.

Jordan, 20, (pictured) was stabbed to death in his Thrales Close home on Sunday, May 26 at around 8.15pm.

Last week, officers released footage of a suspect found on CCTV as he walked his bike along by the Purley Centre on the way to Jordan’s home.

Now, having combed through more of the hundreds of hours of CCTV footage they have collected, images of the same man have been found captured as he buys items at the Nisa shop in Marsh Farm about three hours before the murder.

Det Insp John Arthur, of the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit, has today again appealed for information about this man and officers from his team will be in the area distributing leaflets to homes in an effort to find this man.

“Someone must know who this man is,” said Det Insp Arthur.

“He’s clearly been around on the estate for at least three hours on the afternoon of bank holiday Sunday.

“The pictures of him in the local shop are very clear and I’m confident that someone will be able to identify him.

“I believe that this male may live locally or have very local connections.

“We do need to speak with him so if you know him, please do not approach him but contact the police.

“If this individual sees this appeal, I would urge him to contact us directly so we can arrange to speak to him,” he said.

A rapist who subjected a young pub worker to a 3-hour ordeal in undergrowth and bushes was jailed for life today, Friday, December 19.

Drunken Abdul Ghafoor, 33, at one stage forced the young woman to perform a sex act on him saying: “You white girls are good at it.”

The stranger rape by the married father-of-four was described by the prosecutor at Luton crown court as a nightmare that came true.

The father-of-four grabbed the woman, who is in her 20s, as she was walked home from work through Bedford late at night. He had earlier propositioned two other white women, demanding that they perform a sex act on him.

On May 30 this year the victim finished work and sent a WhatsApp message to her sister to say she was walking home to their flat.

Ghafoor, of Nash Road in Bedford, came up behind the woman in Cardington Road as she headed to the Tesco store. He bundled her into bushes and undergrowth, where she was subjected to a sustained sex attack.

The woman sent a WhatsApp text saying: “Help me” before her phone was smashed by Ghafoor. At one point she managed to make a run for it when Ghafoor vomited as a result of the five rum drinks he had consumed. But he caught her and took her back into the undergrowth where the sexual abuse continued.

Her sister had raised the alarm and the victim heard the police helicopter overhead as a major search was launched to find her.

Eventually he allowed her to get dressed and walked out on to the road with her, saying she should walk into town with him, but they were seen by Police Inspector James Longwith. She got into the officer’s car while Ghafoor tried to escape, but was caught.

Prosecutor Sally Hobson said Ghafoor’s behaviour had a racial aspect, as he had made comments to the effect that it is the sort of behaviour white women would engage in.

“He made racially aggravated comments to the effect that this is the sort of behaviour that white women would engage in.

“She was a white woman and he believed it was ok to behave in this way. It was a stranger rape of a young woman going about her business in her home town, where she ought to feel safe.”

Earlier the prosecutor said: “We all see the news and we know the dangers of walking home. For the woman, a nightmare came true that night.”

Ms Hobson said the victim had been “like a frightened rabbit in the headlights” when she gave evidence in the witness box.” She has been seeing a specialist counsellor and she is on medication and suffers from nightmares.

But she described her as “extremely brave young lady who conducted herself with dignity.” The victim listened to the sentencing from another room in the court building via a link.

A pensioner was fighting for his life today after he was punched and kicked to the ground in a savage attack while out walking his dog.

The 78-year-old was punched and kicked to the ground and left in a pool of his own blood after taking a stroll near a lake in Wardown Park, Luton.

He was set upon by three Asian teenagers who attacked him and left him lying unconscious.

Bedfordshire Police have launched an investigation.

Detective Sergeant Tom Hamm said: “The victim is in a stable condition in hospital having suffered a fractured jaw and a bleed to the brain.

Here a Non-White Police Commissioner almost caused a murder-plot trial to be abandoned, after trying to silence the courts from giving out details concerning one of their relatives.

A Deputy Police Commissioner was forced to quit after attempting to interfere with a murder plot trial, in a bid to stop embarrassing details emerging about a relative’s love life.

Tafheen Sharif, 32, tried to use her position to get a judge to stop her cousin’s name being published as the relative gave evidence about the love triangle that led to her fiance being shot.

Her unauthorised approach could have led to the whole case being abandoned at great cost, prompting police and court officials to step in.

Miss Sharif, who is also a Labour councillor once named Young Councillor of the Year, was told her position was ‘untenable’ and she resigned over the summer.

But the reason behind her resignation could not be revealed until the trial ended for legal reasons.

Her boss Olly Martins, the Labour Police and Crime Commissioner for Bedfordshire, was under investigation by the police watchdog at the time, after he revealed secret details of a death in custody to his boyfriend.

He only learned last week that he would not be charged over the unauthorised disclosure.

Miss Sharif’s case will add to calls for the unpopular PCCs, introduced at great cost only two years ago, to be scrapped following a series of scandals.

In the latest debacle, Miss Sharif almost derailed a Luton Crown Court trial in order to spare the blushes of her distant cousin Nazeem Dadd, who was at the centre of a love triangle that nearly led to a brutal murder.

Miss Dadd, who like Miss Sharif lives in Luton, had been engaged to accountant Atif Ali, 28. She also had another suitor, Shahzad Mahroof, but her family did not approve of the match. So the jealous Mahroof hired hitman Bernard Pillay to kill Mr Ali in what the judge called a ‘brutal and callous act’.

Mr Ali’s silver Audi was rammed off the road by Pillay in Luton in May 2013. When he got out of his car, Pillay blasted him in the leg with a sawn-off shotgun and although he survived after emergency surgery, he was left with life-changing injuries.

A trial began in July this year but just before Miss Dadd was due in the witness box, Deputy PCC Miss Sharif contacted the court to ask the judge if her cousin could be granted anonymity to spare her embarrassment.

A FOOTBALL fan was left covered in blood and cowering on the floor after he was attacked by a ten-strong gang of Luton Muslim preachers, a court heard today (June 17).

Andrew White was set upon as he walked along Oxford Street in London’s West End, the Old Bailey was told.

The thugs ‘rained down blows’ on Mr White, who was punched in the back of the head, kicked and struck with a crutch, jurors were told.

Qadeer Ahmed, 29, of Althorp Road, Luton; Naseer Khan, 31, of Milfield Road, Luton; Munim Abdul, 33, of Hampton Road, Luton; Jalal Ahmed, 26, of Cavendish Road, Luton; Yousef Bashir, 34 of Dane Road, Luton; Rajib Khan, 36, of Vestry Close, Luton; Moshiur Rahman, 32, of Dane Road, Luton; Mohan Uddin, 36, of Trinity Road, Luton, and Kamran Khan, 29, of Wodecroft Road, Luton, have all admitted affray.

Alleged ringleader Abu Rahin Aziz, 32, of Hazelbury Crescent, Luton, denies affray.

He is being tried in his absence.

Opening the case, prosecutor Will Hays said: ‘This is a case about group violence, which took place in on one of the busiest streets in London.

‘It was on the 18 May, 2013 and there was before this incident a demonstration which was taking place outside the US embassy in Grosvenor Square.’

Aziz was one of those railing against US foreign policy that day, the court heard.

‘Meanwhile, while that demonstration was going on, a Dawah stall was preaching on Oxford Street on the junction with Old Quebec Street.’

‘Dawah’ means evangelising or proselytising for the Muslim faith, Mr Hays added.

‘There was some preaching going on in relation to the Muslim faith.’

Mr White had been to the Northampton Town FC and Bradford City FC match before making his way with some friends to the City of Quebec pub in Old Quebec Street, the court heard.

Shortly after 5.15pm, Mr White walked away from the pub towards the junction with Oxford Street with his hands in his pockets.

As he reached Oxford Street he was punched to the head from behind before being set upon by the large group.

He fell to the ground where he was punched and kicked repeatedly, as well as being hit with a hospital crutch, in plain view of the ‘Dawah’ stall.

‘Mr Bashir passes his crutch to another member [of the gang] who pleaded guilty…and rains down blows on Mr Andrew White, as he falls towards the floor,’ said Mr Hays.

‘Eventually the victim was able to roll out of the group, but remained on the ground, abandoned by the group and bleeding from his head and his mouth.’

Members of the public administered first aid before an ambulance crew arrived.

The prosecutor added that pub manager Christopher Smith, who had served the soccer fans, said their behaviour in the pub had been good.

Aziz is said to have triggered the violence by punching Mr White to the back of the head.

Qadeer Ahmed allegedly launched himself at Mr White, battering him on the ground using his hands and feet.

Kamran Khan also took part in the fight before harassing a group of horrified passers-by outside Top Shop.

Mohammed Khan ran into the melee and kicked and stamped on Mr White as he lay helpless on the ground, it is claimed.

Uddin allegedly armed himself with Bashir’s crutch and used it to strike the victim when he was on the floor.

Abdul, Rahman and Jalal Ahmed all took part in the fighting as well.

Jalal Ahmed is said to have ushered Asian women and children away from the area seconds before the attack was launched.

Bashir allowed his crutch to be used as a weapon and handed out leaflets during the incident, the court heard.

A WOMAN in Luton was punched in the stomach and spat on during a racial attack in Wardown Park.

The 28-year-old victim was attacked on May 31 by a man who then got into a car with his wife and two children and drove off.

The woman had been in the Wardown Park children’s play area, close to the ice cream hut, at around 6.30pm when she was asked to help a child who had got stuck on the climbing frame.

As she did so, two children started mocking the child and then started swearing and racially abusing the 28-year-old, who police said was a white woman wearing a head scarf.

The woman asked the children to stop swearing and then left the park with her sister and two children.

As she left the park, she was approached by a man who punched her in the stomach, causing her to fall to the floor and hit her head on the pavement.

He shouted racial abuse at her before punching her again as she tried to stand up.

The man then spat in the 28-year-old’s face before walking off with his wife and two children towards Old Bedford Road where they got into a grey Audi and drove away from the area.

PC Jagjeet Dhillon, who is investigating the incident, is keen to speak with anyone who was in the park at the time and may have seen the assault taking place.

PC Dhillon said: “This was vicious and seemingly unprovoked attack on a woman who merely asked two children in a play area to stop swearing. 
”Thankfully, the victim’s injuries were not too serious, but this offender is obviously a violent individual who was not afraid to use extreme measures in a public place and in front of young children.

“If anyone saw this incident taking place or may know who the offender is, please get in touch.

“Even the smallest piece of information could help us find this individual.”

Police have described the man as being an Asian male – believed to be Pakistani, in his late 30s or early 40s.

He was around 6ft tall, of muscular build, with very short shaved black hair and wearing a cream jumper or top with black stripes, navy blue jeans and white trainers with white marking.

A young woman, working alone in her office over the Christmas holiday period last year, was repeatedly raped by a stranger who called by asking if he could use the phone.

Adison Bridet claimed he had been out the night before and his phone had been taken.

But, after making his call, Bridet dragged the 22 year old into a back room where he raped her three times.

He even forced her to look at herself in a full length mirror as he carried out the attack.

Today Luton Crown Court heard that at the time of the offence – the morning after Boxing Day last year – Bridet was already on bail following a rape allegation in Portsmouth.

Judge Philip Bartle was told that offence was not pursued and eventually dropped.

Bridet, 22, of no fixed address, was given an extended prison sentence of 14 years today after pleading guilty to a charge of rape and two offences of assault by penetration.

Judge Bartle told Bridet the custodial element of the sentence meant he would serve 10 years behind bars and, once released, would be on extended licence for 4 years.

Tim Clarke, prosecuting, said the 22-year-old woman was working alone in her office in Luton town centre when Bridet came in.

After using the phone, Bridet asked if he could visit the bathroom.

By now, the girl was becoming suspicious and moved her bag and a knife.

The court heard that when he emerged from the bathroom, he suddenly grabbed her and dragged her into a back room, where he removed her clothes and punched her about the face and head.

‘He squeezed her neck so hard, she thought she was going to die,’ said Mr Clarke.

A Muslim primary school has been heavily criticised by Ofsted because the library is said to contain books which advocate ‘fundamentalist Islamic beliefs’ and punishments under Sharia law, including stoning women.

An inspection at Olive Tree Primary school in Luton, Bedfordshire, was abandoned last week after parents reacted angrily to inspectors quizzing their children about homosexuality.

Now an unpublished report by the school’s watchdog has condemned the school for promoting Salafi ideology and suggested it does not prepare its pupils ‘for life in modern Britain, as opposed to life in a Muslim state.’

Muslims involved in the Salafi movement promote Sharia law, the Islamisation of society and those who practice the ideology advocate jihad against civilians.

According to The Guardian, the report said some of the content of the books were set ‘firmly within a Saudi Arabian socio-religious context’.

It reads: ‘Some of the views promoted by these books, for example stoning women, have no place in British society.’

Staff from the school denied the allegations, describing them as a ‘complete fabrication’, and said there were no books in the library that advocated extremist beliefs.

Farasat Latif, the school’s chair of govenors told the paper: ‘We have a large number of books about different faiths, which inspectors failed to to notice, including The Diary of Ann Frank.’

A religious fanatic who was unknowingly suffering from paranoid schizophrenia stabbed his neighbour to death in an ‘unexplained and frenzied attack’.

Leonard Flower, 67, known as Len, was stabbed 17 times – including through the heart – by Sameer Babar, 35, as he was doing odd jobs in his garage in Luton, Bedfordshire.

His wife, Linda, to whom he had been married for 47 years, was just metres away inside the couple’s home when the brutal attack took place.

But Mrs Flower only found out about her husband’s death when he was found lying in a pool of blood by a couple who were delivering leaflets around the area.

During the hearing yesterday at Luton Crown Court, Babar denied murder, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

The court was told Babar, who lived opposite Mr Flower, a retired computer analyst, had fled the scene after carrying out the attack on October 22 last year by stealing the couple’s car.

He then drove north up the M1 motorway but was arrested five hours later in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

Psychiatrists now believe Babar – who has written two books containing extreme religious rhetoric – was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia in the years leading up to the attack.

He has now been detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act.

Speaking after the hearing, Mrs Flower said she was ‘heartbroken and devastated’ about her husband’s death.

She said: ‘We have lost a good husband, father, grandfather and a kind man who was liked and respected by everyone who met him.’

At the hearing, Judge Michael Kay QC said Babar’s behaviour had been ‘bizarre’ in the year or two before the attack, but there had been no warning that he would be violent.

The court was told that Babar had written two books in 2011 and 2012 containing extreme religious rhetoric, which had led to angry reactions from local mosques.

Babar had also been planning to hold a lecture at Luton library and had been referred to a crisis mental health team, to be treated for depression, after contact with police.

The court was told that the defendant had even been visited by police the day before the killing but had refused to let them in. Police had no power of entry and were forced to leave.

The killing took place around lunchtime the next day.

Prosecutor Beverley Cripps said: ‘The defendant was in the grip of mental illness, which has since been diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenia.
