If deployed, Ukrainian firefighters would join those sent by Canada and Mexico, who have already converged on the Los Angeles area to help fire departments from around the state, even as Trump has threatened to levy tariffs against both countries.

The clash came amid concerns of a looting spree after owners who had been forced to abandon their homes as the flames spread later returned to find the contents had been burgled.

About 30 people have been arrested, most of them for suspected looting, since the fires threatened to engulf several Los Angeles neighbourhoods. One man was found at a fire-damaged home dressed as a firefighter and arrested. Two men were detained on Saturday outside the Los Angeles home of Kamala Harris – the vice-president whom Trump defeated in November to return to the White House – but were later released after no evidence of a burglary was found.

Newsom’s exchange with Musk was triggered by a user who posted a television interview in which the governor said there would be “zero tolerance for looters”.

Above the footage, the user wrote: “LOOTING: Newsom and California Democrats literally decriminalized looting, barring police from arresting looters and prosecutors from prosecuting them. Now he’s opposed to looting.”

Musk, who has been prominent in Republican criticism of the Democrat response to the fires, reposted the message with a clown emoji and a globe.

From my analysis of the laws, it is definitely illegal to loot.

Prop 47 effectively legalized theft of anything worth less than $950 (while it was technically still illegal to steal, there was no real punishment), but a lot of that was redacted last year in response to the behavior of the blacks. (People no longer think black people menacing society is cute and adorable.)

From what I can see, looting is more likely to be charged as a misdemeanor than as a felony.

I don’t think it’s legal, however, in the way that retail theft had become de facto legal.

Stealing from people’s homes has typically always been a bigger offense than stealing from a store.

For the record, it is racist to arrest looters.

U.S. private forecaster AccuWeather said on Wednesday that estimated damage and economic loss from the California wildfire, already one of the worst in history, is over $50 billion at a preliminary level.

Raging wildfires in Los Angeles killed at least two people, destroyed hundreds of buildings and stretched firefighting resources and water supplies since they began on Tuesday, with fierce winds hindering firefighting operations and fueling the fires.

AccuWeather, which estimates the loss between $52 billion and $57 billion, added that if the fire spread to densely populated neighborhoods the current estimates for loss would have to be revised upward.

It’s bad and it’s getting worse

“Should a large number of additional structures be burned in the coming days, it may become the worst wildfire in modern California history based on the number of structures burned and economic loss,” AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter said.

Property consultant CoreLogic estimates that there are over 456,000 homes, with nearly $300 billion in reconstruction value, at moderate or greater risk within the Los Angeles and Riverside metropolitan areas.

However, this number represents the areas at risk in general and not linked to the ongoing fire event.

There is a lot of information that should be shared about these fires.

Firstly, they were caused by gay people.

Also, forest fires happen naturally, so if you are going to unnaturally prevent them, you have to remove the debris (fallen trees, leaves) from the forest and crop it. You can’t just leave it natural while putting out small fires that start, otherwise you’re going to end up with a big fire that you can’t possibly ever put out.

Los Angeles, the second largest US city, is setting itself up for a standoff with President-elect Donald Trump over immigration.

On Tuesday, its city council passed a “sanctuary city” ordinance to bar using local resources to help federal immigration authorities.

LA’s public school system also reaffirmed itself as a “sanctuary” for undocumented immigrants and LGBTQ students in a series of emergency resolutions.

Trump, who will be sworn in in two months, has promised mass deportations once he returns to the White House. His chosen “border czar”, Tim Homan, has urged sanctuary cities to “get the hell out of the way” of federal immigration crackdowns.

The term “sanctuary city” has been popular in the US for more than a decade to describe places that limit their assistance to federal immigration authorities. Since it is not a legal term, cities have taken a variety of approaches to becoming “sanctuaries”, such as setting policies in laws or simply changing local policing practices.

Aimed at making a 2019 executive order into city law, the city council’s sanctuary city ordinance prohibits using city resources for immigration enforcement, including cooperating with federal immigration agents, NBC News Los Angeles reports.

The ordinance will “prevent federal immigration enforcement from being able to access city facilities or to use city resources in the pursuit of immigration enforcement”, council member Nithya Raman told CBS News, the BBC’s US partner, ahead of the vote.

It will also prohibit some data sharing between immigration authorities and city officials and agencies.

Officials in a number of other cities, including Boston and New York City, have similarly promised that local resources would not be allocated to helping federal immigration enforcement issues.

The Los Angeles school district – roughly 140 miles (225km) from the country’s southern border with Mexico – also voted on a series of emergency resolutions explicitly aimed at combatting what the board’s president, Jackie Goldberg, has described as an anti-immigrant and LGBTQ sentiment from the incoming president.

As well as restating a sanctuary policy for students and families within the school district, the resolution also calls for training for teachers and staff about how they should communicate with immigration authorities.

And addicts told The Post that the free crack pipes help them afford more drugs to feed their habit.

During a recent visit to LA’s notorious Skid Row slum, The Post witnessed around a dozen people gathered outside Homeless Healthcare, most clutching matching glass pipes, which they all said were handed out by the organization.

Some stuffed them with fentanyl and lit up in broad daylight as volunteers ushered more people into the center.

Others, like Amiya Johnson, who lives on the street in Skid Row with his dog, kept them to sell or trade for more drugs.

“A lot of people trade this stuff for drugs when they get it,” Johnson said.

“Yeah, I sell ‘em,” his neighbor in line quipped, adding that he sells every glass pipe from the center for $2.

Danion Corral, who visits Homeless Healthcare most days, said he would still visit its Skid Row center even if it didn’t give out pipes.

Homeless Healthcare – which offers free coffee, snacks, rides to the doctor’s office and other services – would be a “haven of peace” for him and fellow addicts.

“This is the only place I can go to and get treated like a human being,” Corral said.

A wheel fell off a United Airlines Boeing 757-200 just moments after takeoff Monday morning — echoing a nearly identical incident from March.

United confirmed in a statement that a wheel fell off the jet as Flight 1001 departed Los Angeles International Airport around 7 a.m. on its way to Denver.

The flight safely touched down in Denver about three hours later, and none of the 174 passengers or seven crew members on board were injured.

A United spokesperson says the wheel was later found in Los Angeles, and that it’s investigating the cause of the mishap. It was not immediately known whether it caused any damage on the ground.

The 757 is not even a bad plane. It was an amazing plane.

This is all related to the maintenance, and this Boeing diversity program. They were one of the first companies to say “we are just going to completely remove white men.”

You can completely remove white men from a liberal arts college.

But you can’t do that with jet plane maintenance.

Wealthy Los Angeles residents are increasingly seeing their luxury goods stolen by bands of “burglary tourists” who are exploiting the US visa system to enter the country and break into mansions before fleeing back to their home countries with the loot, police have warned.

The burglars from Chile, Ecuador, Columbia and Peru are allegedly responsible for 94 burglaries in just one section of the city in 2023 alone, officials with the Los Angeles Police Department told the Los Angeles Times.

The gangs are also believed to have stolen from Long Island and New Jersey last month, and in 2022, the FBI considered them “an enormous threat” to the US, a supervisory special agent told the Washington Post.

But they have only become more active over the past few months, Los Angeles police said as they announced a task force to crack down on these “lanzas internacionales” — or international thieves — last week.

“The number of crimes tied to these kind of crews are way, way up” despite overall burglaries being down, LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton told the LA Times.

It is believed the thieves are entering the country under a 2014 visa waiver program that was intended to increase tourism from trusted countries, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said.

The program, known as the Electronic System for Travel Authorization — or ESTA, allows South Americans to enter the United States for an unlimited number of 90-day periods.

They then target wealthy homes in cities with lax bail laws, and return to their home countries while on bail, according to the Washington Post.

An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday night over a “possible mechanical issue,” according to KTLA.

The flight, which was arriving from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, safely landed at LAX on Runway 25 around 8:45 p.m., an official from American Airlines told the outlet.

Passengers safely exited the Boeing aircraft through the jet bridge after the aircraft pulled into the gate.

There were no reports of injuries onboard, according to the outlet.

There were reports of a blown-out tire, but AA officials only cited the pilot’s claim of a “possible mechanical issue,” according to the outlet.

Well.

At least people weren’t flying around, and there wasn’t blood on the ceiling, as there was earlier this week.
