If a lonely person actually just smoked 15 cigarettes a day, they wouldn’t be bothered by the loneliness anymore. And it would balance out.

The Guardian:

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared loneliness to be a pressing global health threat, with the US surgeon general saying that its mortality effects are equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

WHO has launched an international commission on the problem – led by the US surgeon general, Dr Vivek Murthy, and the African Union youth envoy, Chido Mpemba – of 11 advocates and government ministers, including Ralph Regenvanu, the minister of climate change adaptation in Vanuatu, and Ayuko Kato, the minister in charge of measures for loneliness and isolation in Japan.

It comes after the Covid-19 pandemic halted economic and social activity, increasing levels of loneliness, but also amid a new awareness of the importance of the issue. The WHO commission on social connection will run for three years.

“[Loneliness] transcends borders and is becoming a global public health concern affecting every facet of health, wellbeing and development,” said Mpemba. “Social isolation knows no age or boundaries.”

The health risks are as bad as smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day, and even greater than those associated with obesity and physical inactivity, according to Murthy.

Yeah. People are definitely isolated and alone.

I’m not sure that is a health threat, however.

Survey Says Over a Quarter of All Gen Z Adults Went to Therapy as Teens https://www.anglinarchive.com/2023/11/12/survey-says-over-a-quarter-of-all-gen-z-adults-went-to-therapy-as-teens/ Sun, 12 Nov 2023 00:00:00 +0000
From the survey

Therapy is something that is widely hailed as good and helpful. It’s very obvious to everyone who looks at it that it’s totally destructive.

But boomer thought it was really good – “it’s like religion, but it’s all sciencey!” – so they sent their kids. Now Gen X is sending their kids.

You know where you should send your kids if they’re having problems?

Send them to the priest. Find a priest who is young enough to connect with kids, and send the kids to him.

Unherd:

Generation Z is going to therapy far more than any other age cohort, a new study has found.

Among American Gen Z adults, over a quarter (27%) reported having gone to therapy in their teenage years, including 31% of Gen Z women, a survey from the American Enterprise Institute found. Only 4% of boomers and 10% of Generation X attended therapy as teens, along with 20% of millennials.

The survey delved into the formative experiences of Gen Z, who were less likely than previous generations of teens to have part-time jobs, attend religious services, have a boyfriend or girlfriend, or drink or smoke, according to the survey. They were, however, much more likely to have experienced frequent loneliness.

These findings support claims of a youth mental health crisis spreading across the West, but it’s less apparent whether therapy is actually helping. Therapy methods long touted as universal interventions have been found to not only not help teens, but to actually exacerbate their problems and worsen their relationships with their parents, according to a recent report from the Atlantic analysing several studies on the subject.

In one study from Australia, researchers taught mental health improvement techniques that are commonly used in therapy to teenagers, expecting to see an improvement in psychological and social outcomes. Instead, the treatment group’s anxiety, depression and quality of life all declined compared to the control group, and their relationships to their parents worsened.

The uninspiring results of such studies seems to be having no impact on the popularity of mental health services. Behavioural therapy is a growth industry, and it’s expected to double over the coming decade as mental health disorders become more common and awareness of corresponding treatments continues to grow. Patients are now seeking out therapy through telehealth services, and a number of online companies have popped up to cater this market. One example is Hers and Hims, which offer mental health services including drug prescriptions and advertise their services relentlessly on digital streaming platforms.

“It’s not surprising that so many Gen Z’ers have received therapy, considering that 20% of US teens in 2021 suffered from major depression in the last year, twice as many as in 2011,” Jean Twenge, author of Generations, told UnHerd. “In addition, suicide rates have doubled, and more than twice as many are hospitalised for self-harm. These trends are similar across the Anglosphere. If anything, the statistics suggest more should get therapy.”

“Therapy is needed for some of our teens,” Brad Wilcox, director of the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia, told UnHerd. “But the research also tells us that many young adults would be protected from anxiety and depression by spending more time outdoors, exercising, socialising, and doing activities with their families rather than spending time on a screen.”

Do they need therapy because they’re gay?

Or do the therapists turn them gay?

Family Meals Promote Healthy Eating and Strengthen Bond Between Parents and Kids https://www.anglinarchive.com/2020/03/16/family-meals-promote-healthy-eating-and-strengthen-bond-between-parents-and-kids/ Mon, 16 Mar 2020 00:00:00 +0000 Pomidor Quixote

This is the kind of evil research that must be shut down for the good of the chosen few PROGRESS.

We all know by now that kids should have their meals while watching Netflix and doing Instagram stuff on their phones in-between bites, and that their parents should eat on their desks while working to improve efficiency through better time management.

Study Finds:

A meal is one of the best ways to bring people together, and that may be especially true for families with young children. A new study conducted by a University of Delaware-led research team shows that dining together as a family leads to better dietary practices and a stronger bond between parents and children.

This study is not exactly a new study, but a review of other peer-reviewed studies on the topic of family meals. These analyses reveal that more frequent family meals leads to more fruit and vegetable consumption and overall healthy eating, along with a positive increase in measures of family functioning. These measures include family connectedness, communication with parents, and family cohesion.

…

The meta-analysis shows that eating together as a family also has a slightly positive outcome with regards to sugar-sweetened beverages like soft drinks. However, the analysis is inconclusive regarding other “unhealthy” foods like snack foods, fast-food and desserts.

…

The authors of the study conclude by suggesting directions for further research. While their review indicates that family meal frequency may lead to improved communication and overall family functioning, they say more studies should be performed to confirm this. Also, more research can help determine the relationship between family meals and unhealthy food consumption.

We know that social isolation is unhealthy, so it shouldn’t be surprising to find that doing stuff with other people — especially with family and friends — is health-promoting.

It’s sad that these days, parents and their kids often have dinner under the same roof and at the same hour while not really being together.

If people don’t resist the alienating pull of technology, their humanity will suffer.

We are meant to interact with one another face-to-face.

You have to look people in the eye, watch them smile, and hear them laugh.

Social Isolation May Cause Physical Inflammation, Study Finds https://www.anglinarchive.com/2020/03/11/social-isolation-may-cause-phyisical-inflammation-study-finds/ Wed, 11 Mar 2020 00:00:00 +0000 Pomidor Quixote

Isolated by Modernity

In the past, isolation often meant death, but thanks to the wonders of Modernity, humans nowadays can survive with little to no contact with other humans.

Need food? Push a button.

Need emotions? Stare at some glowing screen.

But it appears that social isolation has a negative physical effect on humans, especially males.

Study Finds:

Cancelled weekend plans and unanswered text messages always tend to sting from a psychological perspective, but now a new study finds that days and nights spent all alone may cause us physical pain as well. Researchers at the University of Surrey and Brunel University London say that social isolation may lead to increased bodily inflammation.

As part of the largest research initiative on this subject to date, the study’s authors analyzed 30 previous studies that had explored the possibility of a connection between physical inflammation and social isolation.

“Loneliness and social isolation have been shown to increase our risk of poorer health,” says Dr. Kimberley Smith, Lecturer in Health Psychology at the University of Surrey, in a release. “Many researchers propose that part of the reason for this is because they influence the body’s inflammatory response.”

…

Interestingly, it also appears that social isolation is more likely to be harmful from a physical perspective for men than women. The study’s authors don’t have an explanation for this gender fluctuation as of yet, but say it’s probably linked to the different ways men and women deal with social stressors.

It’s not surprising.

Women are solipsistic creatures that could happily spend their entire lives rubbing their clitorises and playing with their hair if someone locked them up in a tower.

Men, on the other hand, are intended to interact with other men, to coordinate and work together to achieve goals, fight and build stuff.

“The evidence we examined suggests that social isolation may be linked with inflammation, but the results for a direct link between loneliness and inflammation were less convincing. We believe these results are an important first step in helping us to better understand how loneliness and social isolation may be linked with health outcomes,” Dr. Smith explains.

“Our results suggest loneliness and social isolation are linked with different inflammatory markers. This shows how important it is to distinguish between loneliness and isolation, and that these terms should neither be used interchangeably nor grouped together,” concludes Christina Victor, Professor of Gerontology and Public Health at Brunel University London.

Self-inflicted isolation is an understandable response to the degeneracy that is so rampant in the world these days.

People are self-quarantining from the worst disease that was ever known to man: Jewishness.

But we may have to accept that maybe we cannot escape being exposed to this corruption.

You can hide, but The Tranny is still there.

The Jews are still out there.

Satanists are still out there drinking blood and eating the bone marrow of babies.

You need to get out there and claim your place in the world.

We can fight off the bad parts together.

Are You Lonely, Goy? This Pill Can Make the Bad Feelings Fade Away! https://www.anglinarchive.com/2019/01/28/are-you-lonely-goy-this-pill-can-make-the-bad-feelings-fade-away/ Mon, 28 Jan 2019 00:00:00 +0000 Roy Batty

Things are completely fucked, but no one is ever allowed to ask why things are fucked nor propose solutions to unfuck things.

The only thing that you’re allowed to do is treat the symptoms.

The Guardian:

It’s hard to compare our collective loneliness against that of previous generations, as we simply haven’t been measuring it consistently, but recent estimates suggest that anywhere from 22% to 75% of American adults are persistently lonely. A number of culture-wide structural changes might be to blame: more Americans live alone than ever before; fewer of us are marrying or having children; our average household size is shrinking. In many cases, these changes represent the availability of options where once the only accepted path was marriage and a nuclear family. But they also mean we are spending more time on our own. “Western societies have demoted human gregariousness from a necessity to an incidental,” writes John Cacioppo, a neuroscientist who studied social pain and passed away in March 2018, in his book Loneliness.

Yes, Jews caused this.

They destroyed the fabric of our societies so that they could get rich off selling us pills that allow us to cope with the sheer horror of it all.

And we’re only a few years away from suicide pills at the rate we’re going.

When mice are socially isolated, their levels of pregnenolone decrease, a shift that also occurs in lonely humans. In a 2013 study of 31 healthy people, another research team found that giving people oral doses of a compound called allopregnanolone – derived from pregnenolone – had a calming effect on the participants’ amygdala and insula, which are the regions of the brain responsible for threat detection, emotional recall, and the anticipation of unpleasant reactions. The Cacioppos started focusing on pregnenolone and allopregnanolone after preclinical trials showed that the compound could counteract some of the loneliness-related biological changes in brain and was well-tolerated in humans. Some antidepressants provide a similar effect but come with undesirable side effects, like drowsiness, nausea, and insomnia.

The Cacioppos – draw your own conclusions about them.

“If we could successfully reduce the alarm system in the minds of lonely individuals, then we could have them reconnect, rather than withdraw from others,” Stephanie says.

Translation: “if we could lobotomize people, they’d be happier in this waking dystopia that we are foisting upon them.”

“Just as thirst is a signal that you are dehydrated, loneliness is an indication that you are already suffering from a lack of connection, Stephanie Cacioppo tells me. It’s true that many of us manage to pull ourselves out of a lonely funk, but she argues that we could still benefit from a pharmacological intervention to prevent descent into social isolation.

The vast majority of people experience loneliness in their lives. I ask her: does this mean all of us could benefit from such a treatment?”

“Absolutely,” she says.

These people are insane.

To combat loneliness you don’t need a pill, you just need another person.

People want to connect to others – they want to meet girls who can become their wives and start families with them. They want to be able to relax with their friends at the bar, the gym, the boat on weekends. They want grandkids when they’re older too, and to know their extended family. They want to know their neighbors, and they want to know their mailman.

Giving them a pill so that they just stop wanting all that is sick AF.

It is pathologizing normal human emotion.

And while I hope that stuff like this won’t take, I think I know better. People still have this near-religious faith in doctors in America, even if they’re in quack professions like psychiatry or w/e.

Chances are that drugs like these are going to keep coming out and people are going to gulp them down to cope.

There may even be an anti-racism pill hitting the market soon. You know, for White people that feel uncomfortable around diversity. There will be a special pill that will allow them to cope with that too – by removing the brain’s threat detection and pattern-recognition mechanism. It’ll probably be handed out in schools along with contraceptives, Xanax, Ritalin, and anti-depressants.

There is some good advice at the end of the article though:

Actively searching for meaning in your life, whether it’s by joining a volunteer organization, movement, or religious group, also helps. It’s less about meeting other people, at least at first, and more about finding purpose and taking part in something larger than yourself, Cole says. “Self-focus promotes negative emotional states,” while there is robust evidence that the “neurobiology of helping others is one of the most rewarding things a brain can do”.

Helping others and mostly just thinking about others is a great way of dealing with depression, it’s true.

But it’s shifting the focus away from yourself that’s the key here, not giving (presumably) Africans your time and money.

Funny enough, gossip can help you deal with depression as well. Just make fun of someone else – hopefully, someone deserving it – and all of a sudden you’ll feel much better about yourself and your own situation. Plus, people love to rag on other people, and it’s a bonding thing.

Basically, doing anything that gets you out of the state where you’re marinating in your own mind is a good way to deal with depression.

I could give you other advice like exercise, eat right and go to bed on time (and you should do those things), but if you really want bang for your buck, just take someone else down a peg and see if you don’t feel better immediately, your money back GUARANTEED!

It’s an ancient Chinese remedy, so you know it’ll work. And it’s better/cheaper than taking some Jew-pill anyway.
