He and his fellow SWAT officers had tried to issue an arrest warrant to one of the blacks.

The end result was quite predictable.

CBS Local:

A little more than a month after a Philadelphia police officer was killed in a shooting, two more individuals were charged in his murder. On March 13, Philadelphia SWAT forces serving a felony arrest warrant led to the killing of Sgt. James O’Connor.

Investigators say the 46-year-old was one of eight SWAT members who entered a Frankford home to arrest 21-year-old murder suspect Hassan Elliott when the suspect fired a rifle through a door, striking and killing O’Connor.

Hassan Elliott, the first arrest. There’s no photos of the other two, but they sure have some colorful names.

“Myself and my assistant chief, Joanne Pescatore, have literally worked every day since March 13th combing through a variety of evidence,” said Anthony Voci, the district attorney’s chief of the homicide unit.

On Friday, that hard work led to additional murder charges for two men – Bilal Mitchell and Khalif Sears – who investigators say were both inside that room with Elliott.

“They are charged with the murder of Sgt. O’Connor and the attempted murder of his seven SWAT team members. We are additionally filing criminal conspiracy charges against Mitchell, Sears and Hassan Elliott as a result of our investigation,” Voci said.

James O’Connor

I don’t normally feel bad for cops, but damn… look at that guy.

That’s the face of a man who had to deal with waaaaaaay too many jiggaboos in his lifetime.

WPVI:

A Philadelphia police SWAT corporal was killed in a shooting while serving a warrant on Friday morning at a home in the Frankford section of the city.

Cpl. James O’Connor was 46 years old and was with the police force for 23 years. He was in SWAT for 15 years.

He was married with two grown children.

O’Connor’s son is also a Philadelphia police officer, serving in the 9th District. His daughter is an active duty Air Force member.

“There’s not a word that you can put on the level of emotion that’s being felt right now,” Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said during a news conference.

The shooting happened around 5:51 a.m. as officers were serving a homicide warrant in the 1600 block of Bridge Street.

The suspect was being sought for a homicide that occurred in 2019, Outlaw said. The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Hassan Elliott.

Officers entered the property and were met with gunfire from a closed door on the second floor.

O’Connor was hit near the left shoulder blade, Outlaw said.

Another SWAT officer returned fire, striking two males in the lower extremities.

O’Connor was transported to Temple University Hospital and was pronounced dead at 6:09 a.m.

The two people who were shot by police were transported to Einstein Medical Center and Jefferson Hospital in stable condition.

Elliott, the subject of the homicide warrant, was not shot and was taken into custody, Outlaw said.
