A third of young adults in the UK are unable to name Auschwitz or any of the other concentration camps and ghettoes where the crimes of the Holocaust were committed, according to a study.

Other growing gaps in knowledge – especially among those aged 18-29 – were also identified, as part of a major international survey in countries including the US and UK.

The findings have been released before the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust and the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation on Monday. It comes amid fears of a resurgent far right and alarm over rising antisemitism.

More than a quarter of people surveyed in the UK were unable to name a single camp or ghetto established by the Nazis during the second world war.

King Charles will travel to Auschwitz on Monday to mark the liberation, joining survivors and other dignitaries as well as meeting Poland’s president, Andrzej Duda.

It comes as the prime minister pledged to make Holocaust education in the UK “a truly national endeavour”, saying his government would “ensure all schools teach it”.

Keir Starmer said: “We must start by remembering the 6 million Jewish victims and by defending the truth against anyone who would deny it.

“But as we remember, we must also act. Because we say ‘never again’ – but where was ‘never again’ in the genocides of Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur – and where is ‘never again’ as antisemitism kills Jewish people still?

In answer to being asked to name the concentration camps, death camps, killing sites, transit camps or ghettoes they had heard of, 26% of those surveyed in the UK said they did not know any of their names. The proportion was 33% among those aged 18-29 in the UK, although the figure was as high as 48% among those surveyed in the US.

Holocaust denier Ursula Haverbeck went on trial again on Friday in the German city of Hamburg for incitement to hatred.

Haverbeck has repeatedly and publicly denied the genocide of European Jews by the Nazis during World War II.

This has made her a popular figure in the far-right scene.

On November 12, 2015, she was sentenced to 10 months in prison without parole by the Hamburg District Court.

She then filed an appeal. Almost nine years later, the case is once again before the courts.

The current case concerns statements made by Haverbeck in April 2015 on the sidelines of a trial against the later convicted SS member Oskar Gröning at the Lüneburg District Court and in a television interview.

According to prosecutors, she told journalists that Auschwitz was not an extermination camp but a labor camp. In a television interview with the NDR “Panorama” program, she also denied that mass extermination had taken place there.

The 95-year-old, who lives in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, has convicted mutliple times of incitement over 20 years, including serving prison sentences without parole.

In 2022, a Berlin court sentenced her to one year in prison without probation for incitement to hatred. The verdict is final, but the prison sentence has not yet begun.

Because of her age, Haverbeck was accompanied by a representative of the forensic medical service.

The long trip was far too strenuous for her, said Haverbeck, who repeatedly complained of the “infirmities of old age.”

“I think you’re really fit,” the judge said. The trial is scheduled to continue on June 12 and June 26.

It’s a brave woman, who will keep going in and out of prison like this for decades because she refuses to say a lie.

It seems to me that if the Holocaust was real, they wouldn’t need to put old women in prison to prove that point.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed Sunday that “the whole world is ganging up” on Israel and has forgotten about the Oct. 7 terror attack.

Speaking in Jerusalem, Netanyahu, 74, slammed the growing criticism over Israel’s advancements in the Gaza Strip, accusing those who side against the war effort of turning a blind eye to the October massacre, which he says has been “quickly forgotten,” the Times of Israel reported.

“There are people here and abroad who say maybe there’s something to this [criticism],” Netanyahu said of the backlash facing the Jewish state. “Maybe we’re really not OK” responding.

The US and other UN member nations have voiced their concerns over the growing civilian casualties in Gaza, with the Hamas-run Ministry of Health updating the latest death toll to more than 32,000 people.

The Ministry of Health does not differentiate between terrorists and civilians, with the Israel Defense Forces estimating last month that about 12,000 Hamas operatives have been killed.

Netanyahu again assured the public that “there is no army in the world that has done and does what the IDF has done to minimize the number of casualties and achieve achievements no other army has managed.”

The prime minister also asked how anyone could accuse Israel, a nation established after the Holocaust, of committing genocide, with Netanyahu reminiscing about his father’s own battles against antisemitism.

A Holocaust denier who was arrested in a Scottish fishing village will be extradited back to France after spending two years on the run from the authorities.

Vincent Reynouard lost his extradition battle after his arrest in November 2022. He had been discovered living a double life in Anstruther, Fife, where he worked as a private tutor, according to reports.

Reynouard, 54, was remanded in custody while French authorities launched an extradition bid, citing videos in which he allegedly denied the existence of gas chambers in concentration camps, PA Media reported.

Did they go ahead and prove that there were gas chambers there?

I’ve been waiting a while for prove, and I don’t think it’s really fair to keep sending people to prison for saying there is no proof while you refuse to provide proof.

A domestic warrant issued by a French court referred to seven videos made between September 2019 and April 2020, including one in which he allegedly described the Nazi atrocities as “crude slanders” and another where he spoke of “the Jewish problem”.

The alleged offences include “public trivialisation of a war crime” and “public challenge to the existence of crimes against humanity committed during the second world war”.

Holocaust denial has been a criminal offence in France since 1990, and Reynouard has been convicted on previous occasions, including being given prison sentences in November 2020 and January 2021.

After a hearing at Edinburgh sheriff court in October last year, Sheriff Christopher Dickson said the YouTube videos were “beyond the pale of what is tolerable in our society” and were a breach of the Communications Act. He ruled that extradition could go ahead.

Reynouard challenged the extradition but his application for leave to appeal was refused. A written judgment by Lord Carloway at the court of appeal, issued on Friday, said extradition “cannot be regarded as disproportionate” and that “any reasonable person” would be offended by the videos.

He said the criminality involved in sharing offensive videos online was “one of relative seriousness judged by Scottish standards”.

The judgment said: “The videos were, taken at their highest, racist denials of the existence of the Holocaust and other war crimes.”

“Taken at their highest” appears to be a very strange translation.

However, I am now on-board with that phrase, and will begin implementing it at scale.

Taken at their highest, the Jewish claims that they were gassed to death hold about as much gas as their claims they were put on rollercoasters of death, forced to climb the Wall of Death, forced to climb trees which the Nazis chopped down while they were climbing, or had the colors of their eyes changed.

I saw this headline and thought it was a joke.

This is truly incredible.

What Musk proved with the “Jews are trying to destroy white people” post is that he is well aware of the nature of the situation. He also proved that he has some desire to stand up against the Jews.

However, he is a spineless coward and a fatbody who doesn’t have the strength of will to fight against powerful people who are making threats against him.

The entire Twitter project is now totally worthless. His entire plan was to make it “free speech” in line with the First Amendment, and now it arguably has less free speech than it did when he bought it. Yet, because he made all of these statements against the Jews, he won’t ever get back the advertisers he’s lost.

He’s pissed off everyone on the earth.

Frankly, with the slaughter thing happening in Palestine, he had the opportunity to unite left and right under the banner of free speech, and against these meddling Jews.

A prominent member of a neo-Nazi group was sentenced to two months in prison for projecting an antisemitic conspiracy theory onto the Anne Frank House Museum, the Amsterdam building in which Frank and her family hid from Nazis during World War II.

Robert Wilson, a Polish-Canadian national, had been charged with insulting a group and inciting discrimination for casting the scrolling phrase “Ann [sic] Frank invented the ballpoint pen” onto the side of the museum in February with a laser projector mounted in his van.

Though the words seem innocuous, they are a reference to a nonsense conspiracy theory that the Jewish teen’s famous diary was a forgery.

The incident sparked immediate outrage through the Netherlands, with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte condemning what he called a “reprehensible” act.

Wilson — who was not in court for the verdict — has already spent two months in pre-trial detention, therefore already effectively serving the sentence.

A 98-year-old man has been charged in Germany with being an accessory to murder as a guard at the Nazis’ Sachsenhausen concentration camp between 1943 and 1945, prosecutors said Friday.

The German citizen, a resident of Main-Kinzig county near Frankfurt, is accused of having “supported the cruel and malicious killing of thousands of prisoners as a member of the SS guard detail,” prosecutors in Giessen said in a statement.

They did not release the suspect’s name.
