Donald Trump’s administration has started to remove or downgrade mentions of the climate crisis across the US government, with the websites of several major departments pulling down references to anything related to the climate crisis. Climate scientists said they were braced “for the worst”.

A major climate portal on the Department of Defense’s website has been scrapped, as has the main climate change section on the site of the Department of State. A climate change page on the White House’s website no longer exists, nor does climate content provided by the US agriculture department, including information that provides vulnerability assessments for wildfires.

An entire section on “climate and sustainability” hosted by the Department of Transportation has now vanished, with the department’s new leadership also ordering the elimination of any policy positions, directives or funding “which reference or relate in any way to climate change, ‘greenhouse gas’ [sic] emissions, racial equity, gender identity, ‘diversity, equity and inclusion’ goals, environmental justice or the Justice40 initiative”.

Sean Duffy, the US transportation secretary, said the administration is focused on “eliminating excessive regulations that have hindered economic growth, increased costs for American families, and prioritized far-left agendas over practical solutions”.

Some researchers have found that their own studies, from ocean carbon cycles to the connectivity of cleaner electrical grids, have now vanished from federal government websites. Critics say the actions will stifle the public’s understanding of the climate crisis amid record-breaking temperatures and a wave of storms and wildfires that are being worsened by the burning of fossil fuels.

“We should plan for the worst,” said Michael Mann, a climate scientist at the University of Pennsylvania. “The keys to the car have been given to the polluters and fossil fuel plutocrats and they intend to drive it off the climate cliff.”

Mann said the Trump administration may be following in the footsteps of Florida, which last year passed a law banning any reference to climate change from state laws.

That’s because they’re getting cockblocked.

BMW, one of the driving forces of the German car industry, is showcasing 15 electric vehicles in Paris, the most important industry event in the calendar.

On Monday Carlos Tavares, the chief executive of the Fiat, Citroën and Vauxhall owner Stellantis, said proposed tariffs on Chinese cars would speed up plant closures in Europe, as they would push Beijing to move manufacturing to the continent in direct competition with European brands.

Even in the absence of global collapse, climate change could cause many millions of additional deaths by 2050. We need bold, transformative change.”

Among the policies the scientists recommend for rapid adoption are gradually reducing the human population through empowering education and rights for girls and women, protecting restoring, or rewilding ecosystems, and integrating climate change education into global curriculums to boost awareness and action.

There are fewer hurricanes now than before, and their number and severity is continuing to drop.

Here’s the Nature article, here’s a CNN article fluffing it. They say that although there are many fewer storms, it is “likely” they will become more intense.

But of course, the storms are measured by the amount of monetary damage they do, and Florida is continuing to do shitty cheap construction that continues costing more and more. So, of course the financial cost is going to go up.

The head of the US disaster relief agency has called Hurricane Helene, which has killed nearly 70 people so far, a “true multi-state event” that caused “significant infrastructure damage” and had been made worse because of global heating.

The storm killed at least 69 people, according to state and local officials in South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. Officials feared still more bodies would be discovered.

“This is going to be a really complicated recovery in each of the five states” of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, the Fema administrator, Deanne Criswell, said.

She noted that a 15ft storm surge hit Florida’s Taylor county, where Helene came ashore as a category 4 hurricane late Thursday with winds of 140mph (225km/h), and pointed out that areas of western North Carolina, where search and rescue operations are continuing, recorded 29in (74cm) of rain when the storm stalled over the region.

“This is historic flooding up in North Carolina,” Criswell told the CBS show Face the Nation on Sunday. “I don’t know that anybody could be fully prepared for the amount of flooding and landslides they are having right now.”

As many as 1,000 people remain unaccounted for in Buncombe county in the Appalachian mountains where the hurricane caused catastrophic flooding and mudslides in the Asheville region, cutting off most communication and making the roads impassable.

At least 11 people are dead in North Carolina, Cooper’s office said in an update on Sunday “Tragically we know there will be more,” Cooper said. “Even as the rain and winds have subsided, the challenge for people there increases. People are desperate for help.”

At least 23 are dead in South Carolina, including two firefighters. In Georgia, at least 17 people have died, two of them killed by a tornado in Alamo, according to a spokesperson for Kemp.

The devastation, Criswell said, was linked to the climate emergency. “This storm took a while to develop, but once it did it intensified very rapidly – and that’s because of the warm waters in the Gulf that’s creating more storms that are reaching this major category level.”

The conditions, she said, were creating greater amounts of storm surge in the coastal areas and increased rainfall as the storms moved north.

“In the past, damage from hurricanes was primarily wind damage, but now we’re seeing so much more water damage and that is a result of the warm waters which is a result of climate change,” Criswell told CBS.

Toymaker Lego said on Wednesday it was on track to replace the fossil fuels used in making its signature bricks with more expensive renewable and recycled plastic by 2032 after signing deals with producers to secure long-term supply.

Lego, which sells billions of plastic bricks annually, has tested over 600 different materials to develop a new material that would completely replace its oil-based brick by 2030, but with limited success.

Now, Lego is aiming to gradually bring down the oil content in its bricks by paying up to 70% more for certified renewable resin, the raw plastic used to manufacture the bricks, in an attempt to encourage manufacturers to boost production.

“This means a significant increase in the cost of producing a Lego brick,” CEO Niels Christiansen told Reuters.

“With a family-owner committed to sustainability, it’s a privilege that we can pay extra for the raw materials without having to charge customers extra,” Christiansen said.

Lego’s suppliers are using bio-waste such as cooking oil or food industry waste fat as well as recycled materials to replace virgin fossil fuels in plastic production.

I think this is mostly just a scam for Lego to charge even more.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Lego knock-offs are actually much better quality and have some much funner models.

It’s a pretty big shift in the narrative, no? New York under water in 2013 to the coast of Tonga under water in 2100?

Anyway, Tonga is not under water. They make it sound like the cities are flooded or something. This is not what is happening. They are just claiming “it’s going to happen…!”

Sea-surface temperatures in the south-west Pacific have risen three times faster than the global average since 1980, according to a regional report compiled by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and released on Tuesday.

It also found that marine heatwaves in the region had roughly doubled in frequency since 1980 and become more intense and longer-lasting.

The report said 34 mostly storm or flood-related “hydrometeorological hazard events” in the south-west Pacific last year led to more than 200 deaths and affected more than 25 million people.

To be clear, more than 7,000 people die every hour on the earth. That’s 170,000 per day.

Meanwhile, 40,000-50,000 people die each year from natural disasters.

Two-hundred deaths a year is not statistically relevant to anything at all. I’m sure a lot more people than that in the Pacific died in storms.

It’s a goofy, meaningless, fake statistic.

In a second report published on Tuesday, the UN’s climate action team warned that the climate crisis and sea-level rise were “no longer distant threats”, especially for the Pacific’s small island developing states.

Seeking to build momentum for action before the Cop29 climate summit in Azerbaijan in November, Guterres called on global leaders to drastically slash global emissions and pursue a “fast and fair” phase-out of fossil fuels.

He called for a “massive” increase in finance and support for vulnerable countries, arguing: “We need a surge in funds to deal with surging seas.”

Humans cannot “phase out” “fossil fuels.” Billions of people would die as a result of that, and humans would have to return to some kind of primitive state. Windmills do not work. All of this stuff is nonsense. It’s a massive money sink.

If the main issue is Tonga’s sea level rising in the next 75 years, then build a sea wall for Tonga. You can build a sea wall. Ask the Dutch to help you.

David Bach, the professor of strategy and political economy at IMD, a business school based in Lausanne, Switzerland, said that Musk is not the first chief executive to start speaking out on political issues in ways that would have been unthinkable 20 years ago. But Musk’s recent turn is different.

“In many ways Musk is a special case,” Bach said. “Usually there is some alignment with the interests of the business, or employees or customers. Elon Musk doesn’t seem to be doing that.”

Yeah, if Musk was selling Bushmaster or Hilluxi, it would make a lot more sense.

The global population is likely to peak earlier than expected and at a lower level, according to new UN projections that officials have said offer hope of reduced pressure on the environment.

Will this help the domestic economy in Europe?

It seems unlikely. Serious tariffs on everything imported might be a long term protectionist strategy which could help the European economy, but these people are supposed to be globalists.

Banning EVs alone just looks like sour grapes. It’s also provoking Europe’s number one trade partner for no reason.

The European Union will impose tariffs of up to 37.6% from Friday on imports of electric vehicles made in China, EU officials said, ratcheting up tensions with Beijing in Brussels’ largest trade case yet.

There is however a four-month window during which the tariffs are provisional and intensive talks are expected to continue between the two sides as Beijing threatens wide-ranging retaliation.

The European Commission’s provisional duties of between 17.4% and 37.6% without backdating are designed to prevent what its president Ursula von der Leyen has said is a threatened flood of cheap EVs built with state subsidies.

The rates, laid out in a 208-page document published on Thursday, are almost the same as those announced by the Commission on June 12. The executive made adjustments after companies identified minor calculation errors in the initial disclosure.

Beijing said then it would take “all necessary measures” to safeguard China’s interests.

These could include retaliatory tariffs on exports to China of products such as cognac or pork.

EU trade chief Valdis Dombrovskis said there is no basis for China to retaliate.

The Chinese EV problem is not a small problem for the West.

They are absolutely dominating. And this is an industry that is small now, but which the West has declared will be the majority of cars on the road in Europe in America in the next X years.

The way things are going now, Tesla is on the verge of collapse. I assume that the German companies can stay in the market because they producing more “luxury” style models that some people want, and some people just want a German logo on their car. But the overwhelming majority of cars on the road are going to be Chinese.

And it’s the American global warmers that are saying EVs are going to replace all normal cars in the next decade or whatever. That was their idea. China said “yeah, we can make that happen.” Of course, China is also making gas and diesel cars, which are going to be cheaper and better than Western cars, excluding maybe Toyota/Honda (which are not actually “Western companies”).

The Bigger Issue Here

The bigger issue here is that it’s not just EVs that China is dominating. The way things are going now, they’re going to dominate all consumer electronics, completely. Apple phones have become so overpriced, and so annoying. There is no logic in people continuing to buy these phones. They do so out of habit, and in many cases because the Chinese models are not available in Western markets. But that will not last forever, without a full protectionist system, that would probably be impossible to implement at this point.

Then you have industrial technologies. The Chinese are hiring to German engineers sick of dealing with Germany to work in all of the different tech fields. China is going to be overtaking the companies that make all of this ultra expensive medical equipment, they’re going to overtake the companies that build the bullet trains, they’re going to dominate appliances, all of it.

This can’t be stopped and it’s really already happened.

So, there’s a program to completely abolish meat.

I mean, rich people will still eat meat. But anyone who isn’t rich is going to be lucky to eat bugs. Bugs are going to be what people want to eat, because otherwise you’ll have to eat soy and seed oil.

The bugs are going to be considered elite among the peasants. If you don’t get the bugs, you’re gonna get the soy, and you don’t want the soy.

Anyway, yeah – the fart tax is just one step on the road to “no meat.” It’s the same with gun control or trannies or whatever. Every step they take is headed towards maxing out everything.

Farmers in Denmark will have to pay for planet-heating pollutants that their cattle expel as gas, after the government agreed to set the world’s first emissions tax on agriculture.

The agreement – reached on Monday night after months of fraught negotiations between farmers, industry, politicians and environmental groups – will introduce an effective tax of 120 kroner (£14) per ton of greenhouse gas pollution from livestock in 2030, which will rise to 300 kroner per ton in 2035.

The revenues are to be pooled in a fund to support the livestock industry’s green transition for at least two years after the tax comes into effect.

“We are writing a new chapter in Danish agricultural history,” said the farming minister, Jacob Jensen.

Agriculture is responsible for about one-third of planet-heating pollution – about half of which comes from animals – but lawmakers have so far been reluctant to rein in its emissions. Angry farmers have brought traffic to a standstill in European capitals several times this year, in sometimes violent protests that forced EU leaders to water down rules designed to clean up the sector.

Last week, New Zealand scrapped its world-leading plans to tax its agricultural emissions from 2025 after resistance from farmers.

Denmark is one of Europe’s biggest producers of pork and a significant producer of beef and milk.

People could complain about this.

But it doesn’t do anything.

This is a democracy, and no one is responsible for anything, so there is no one to complain to, so they just destroy the meat industry and leave you hoping you get a chance to eat bugs so you don’t have to eat soy.
