William Galloway Jr.

Damn, this colored gentleman just can’t help himself.

At least he’s choosing the most deserving victims.

NWI Times:

A man already being held on allegations he killed a person and wounded two others in two separate shootings was charged Tuesday in a third case with murdering a couple in Gary’s Glen Park section.

William Galloway Jr., 27, is accused of gunning down Zantrell Collins and Koreena Ramos, both 18, on Oct. 13, 2016, as they sat in a silver car outside a convenience store in the 700 block of East 49th Avenue.

A magistrate entered not guilty pleas to two counts of murder on Galloway’s behalf during an initial hearing Wednesday.

Galloway was already being held without bail on allegations he and Nicholas Pelissier, 21, killed Jonquell Golida, 23, of Gary, and wounded Timothy Fryerson in a shooting Nov. 12, 2016, near the intersection of 49th Avenue and Massachusetts Street in Gary.

All black, btw.

Galloway also is accused of cutting off an ankle bracelet while out on bond and shooting a woman Sept. 18 during an attempted robbery in the 1100 block of Bigger Street in Gary.

Pelissier, who was convicted of murder and attempted murder after a trial in 2018, told police in an interview March 31 that he saw Galloway kill Collins and Ramos.

Pelissier was sentenced in 2018 to 85 years in prison and wanted to speak with detectives to “help his situation,” court records state.

Pelissier told police Collins had been talking to Galloway about trading guns in the days leading up to the double homicide, records allege.

Kyle Washington.

Barricaded doors, kitty litter everywhere, a router in the shower, strangulation with a cord, stabbings…

You can imagine Yakety Sax playing in the background while this happened.

Chicago Tribune:

The boyfriend of a woman found stabbed last month in her Gary home has been charged in her death.

Kyle Washington, 37, was charged in Lake Superior Court with the murder of Mary Rawson, 34, court records show.

Washington was arrested last month in Dallas and extradited back to Lake County, court records show. His case was made public in court records this week.

Rawson’s mother requested a welfare check Oct. 16 after hearing that her daughter had possibly been killed, a probable cause affidavit states.

Police arrived in the 300 block of Tyler Street and noticed lights on in the house with the back screen door open, the affidavit states. A small dog had been running in the yard for a few days, which neighbors said was unusual, according to the affidavit.

Rawson’s mother brought a key to the house, and when officers tried to go in the front door, it “appeared to be barricaded from the inside,” the affidavit states. Police got in through the back door and saw a white towel with “a red stain on it” near the front door which was barricaded with a piece of wood, according to the affidavit.

Officers found Rawson in a bedroom with “multiple stab wounds” and “a white cord wrapped tightly around her neck,” the affidavit states. A kitty litter box “was dumped all over the room and on Mary Rawson,” according to the affidavit, and her pockets were turned inside out.

Officers also found a shower running upstairs with a computer internet router in it, the affidavit states.

Washington and Rawson lived together at the home on Tyler Street, and he “had made several death threats to her and was physically abusive to her,” Rawson’s sister told investigators in court records.

Ashley Marie Scott was killed out of spite by a drug-dealing Black thief, when the people she was with refused to hand over their money and weapons to him.

A deal to buy marijuana in Gary led to the shooting death of a 17-year-old Lansing, Illinois, girl, police said Friday.

Ashley Scott was shot and killed while she sat in a car with three other teens who went to Gary to buy pot Wednesday evening.

Ronald McMahan, 19, of 1750 Clark Road, is charged with murder, murder in perpetration of a robbery and three counts of attempted robbery. McMahan admitted to police he shot at — and into — the car, but claimed the driver, of Hammond, pointed a weapon at him first, the probable cause affidavit states.

Police recovered no other weapons during their investigation, however, sources said.

Scott was the passenger in a Pontiac Grand Prix when the four teens went to 15th Avenue and Burr Street to meet the person who would sell them the pot, court records state. After driving west a short distance to Clinton Street, they stopped and spoke to McMahan, who allegedly pointed a revolver at them and demanded cash and weapons.

Ronald McMahan has been charged with her murder, as well as murder in perpetration of a robbery and three counts of attempted robbery.

The driver told Detectives Cpl. Edward Gonzalez and Daryl Gordon he sped away as McMahan fired at them, striking Scott in the neck. He drove west on 15th Avenue across Cline Avenue to the McDonald’s on 169th Street in Hammond where Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and his other passengers, both from Highland, cooperated with detectives in the investigation, the probable cause affidavit indicates.

Within hours of the shooting, police identified McMahan as the suspect and went to an apartment on Clark Road where he lives with his grandmother.

McMahan told Detective Lorenzo Davis he met the four teens to sell them marijuana but said “he produced his weapon as a result of being confronted with a weapon by the driver,” the affidavit states.

McMahan was arrested late Wednesday and is being held without bail at the Lake County Jail in Crown Point.

Police Officer Jeffrey Westerfield leaves behind four daughters.

Authorities say they didn’t have to go far to make three arrests in the fatal shooting of a Gary police officer: Police found them all in a home less than a block away.

Sheriff John Buncich described one of the men as a “person of interest” in the slaying of Officer Jeffrey Westerfield, who was killed as he sat in his patrol car Sunday morning.

Buncich said the other two were arrested along with the suspect about 3 p.m. at a home in the 2600 block of Jackson Street, around the corner from where Westerfield was killed.

“All three are being questioned,” Buncich said Sunday evening. No charges have been announced.

He said the department, which led the investigation, received a “series of tips” that led them to the residence. “It was some good police work. Very intense police work that paid off,” he said.

Westerfield, 47, was found slumped in his car by a motorist around 5:45 a.m. at the intersection of 26th and Van Buren streets, Police Chief Wade Ingram said at a morning news conference.

Westerfield was pronounced dead at 6:36 a.m., according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

Westerfield was in the driver’s seat of his patrol car, but Ingram could not say if his service weapon was found on him. Shell casings were recovered from the scene, he said.

“A citizen called police and said they saw an officer parked at that location,” Ingram said. “The citizen got out of his car and noticed the officer was unresponsive and called 911.”

The officer had answered a call to the area earlier in the day and police were investigating whether it was related to his death, Ingram said.

“We don’t think it was a traffic stop,” the chief said. “It may have stemmed from something earlier. . .We do have several leads.”

Westerfield had been on the force for 19 years and had four “beautiful daughters,” Ingram said. His birthday was Sunday.

He was killed by three of these.

Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said the officer’s death “is devastating to the department, it’s devastating to the community.”

Kimberly Robinson, who trained with Westerfield, said he was a “happy family man, a nice guy.”

Westerfield had been married to a Gary police sergeant and had recently gotten engaged, Ingram said. “Officer Westerfield made the ultimate sacrifice this morning.”

Westerfield’s fiancee, Denise Cather, told WGN-TV she is trying to keep her children calm after telling them the bad news. She is angry, she said, and wants answers about the death of the man she called her “best friend.’’

“I want the man or the kids or whoever it is. . .I want them caught,’’ she said. “I want them to look at me in the eye and tell me why they killed my fiance.”

Cather said she wanted everyone to know what a wonderful person Westerfield was.

“My oldest daughter, he took her as his own too,’’ she said. “He took my grandchildren as his own. He was a fantastic man,’’ Cather said. “He was wonderful, he had a heart of gold. He’d help anybody — all they had to do was call.’’

Cather and Westerfield had been engaged for two years and had known each other for about 20 years. They were going to be married Aug. 24. “We were in the middle of moving, we just bought a house,’’ she said.

The two were going to go to dinner for his birthday and ride their bikes to the lake, something they liked to do as much as they could. “We’d go out there, have ice cream and look at the water.’’

Cather got the news shortly after waking up Sunday morning. “Wake up, look out your window and see six squad cars outside your house? You pretty much know what happened,’’ Cather said. “That’s a way to wake up, right?”

“This is senseless…I just lost my best friend.’’

A Gary man is facing a third rape trial in less than a year.

In the trial currently underway, Ronald Thompson, 42, is charged with rape, criminal deviate conduct, robbery, criminal confinement and battery. He’s accused of sexually assaulting an Elkhart woman Aug. 12, 2012, in downtown Gary.

Thompson is alleged to have offered a ride to the woman, who had missed her bus, but then took her to a place of business in Merrillville where he demanded oral sex before raping her. The woman suffered numerous injuries, including bruises and broken ribs, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Veronica Gonzalez told jurors.

“This was not consensual sex,” Gonzalez said.
