Tokyo began issuing partnership certificates to same-sex couples who live and work in the capital on Tuesday, a long-awaited move in a country without marriage equality.

The certificates allow LGBTQ partners to be treated as married couples for a range of public services in areas such as housing, medicine and welfare.

More than 200 smaller local authorities in Japan have already made moves to recognize same-sex partnerships since Tokyo’s Shibuya district pioneered the system in 2015.

While the status does not carry the same legal rights as marriage, it represents a welcome change for couples like Miki and Katie, who have long had no official proof of their relationship.

“My biggest fear has been that we would be treated as strangers in an emergency,” Miki told AFP at home in Tokyo, where photos of the Japanese 36-year-old with her American girlfriend Katie, 31, adorn the fridge.

Without a partnership certificate, the couple, who asked to be referred to by their first names, used to tuck a note inside their wallets with the other’s contact details.

“But these were insubstantial, and we felt official documents certified by the local government would be more effective,” Miki said as their grey-and-white cat frolicked in a rainbow necktie.

As of Friday morning, 137 couples had applied for a certificate, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike said last week.

Hopes are high that the introduction of the same-sex partnership certificates, which cover both residents and commuters, will help fight anti-LGBTQ discrimination in Japan.

“Through this Tokyo partnership system, I sincerely hope we can accelerate efforts to create a society where the rights of sexual minorities can be protected, and made more equal,” campaigner Soyoka Yamamoto told a press conference on Tuesday.

Yamamoto and her partner Yoriko, who have lived together for more than a decade, received their certificate that morning.

“I hope we can now access various facilities and services, without having to explain our relationship,” Yoriko said, calling the move a “huge step forward.”

Recent years have seen Japan — run by a conservative ruling party that espouses traditional family values — take small steps towards embracing sexual diversity.

More firms are now proclaiming support for same-sex marriage, and gay characters feature in TV shows with greater openness.

A 2021 survey by public broadcaster NHK showed 57 percent of the public was in favor of gay marriage, versus 37 percent against.

But hurdles remain, with a court in Osaka ruling in June that the country’s failure to recognize same-sex unions was constitutional.

That marked a setback for campaigners in the wake of last year’s landmark verdict by a Sapporo court, which said the current situation violated Japan’s constitutionally guaranteed right to equality.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has been cautious about the possibility of legislative changes that would recognize same-sex partnerships on a national level.

Meanwhile, Noboru Watanabe, a local assemblyman for Kishida’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, came under fire last month for calling same-sex marriage “disgusting.”

“Some politicians have made really negative comments, like that we are mentally ill,” Katie told AFP.

But “families are not always made up of a mother, a father and two kids. We should be more flexible,” she said.

Miki and Katie threw a wedding party last month, but despite their joy at the introduction of the new system, they acknowledge its limitations.

A Seattle school district has seen the number of students identifying as “non-binary” increase by 853% between 2019 and 2022.

Despite a significant decrease in student enrollment within Seattle Public Schools over the past few years, there has also been a major spike in students, from preschool through high school, identifying as “non-binary.”

According to data obtained by The Post Millennial, 53 students identified as “non-binary” in 2019. Three years later, the number has reached 505. Notably, Seattle Public Schools, which is the largest district in the state, also saw a drop in enrollment of more than six percent for the 2022-2023 academic year. During 2019, 55,417 students were enrolled. That number decreased to 51,608 in 2022.

“In 2019, there was 1 child in the preschool who identified as non-binary, 7 in kindergarten, 16 in 1-5 grades, and 10 in middle school,” the Post Millennial reported. “19 high school students identified as non-binary.”

The total number of students who identified as “non-binary,” or neither male or female, was 53 in 2019.

“In 2022, there were 3 children who identified as non-binary in preschool, 16 in kindergarten, 89 in grades 1-5, 125 in middle school, and 272 in high school.”

These increases add up to a total of 505 students rejecting biology and embracing the LGBT agenda, which is continuously injected into public school systems across the country.

Within the past month alone, several studies have been brought to light, revealing the alarming increase in youth identifying as a gender other than their biological sex, many of whom also pursue hormonal and surgical interventions to “affirm” their “gender identity.”

On October 7, LifeSiteNews reported that data compiled by Komodo Health Inc. showed that thousands of American children between the ages of six and 17 are identifying as “non-binary” or “transgender.” Specifically, the number of youths diagnosed with gender dysphoria tripled between 2017 and 2021.

During the past five years in the U.S., at least 121,882 children were diagnosed with gender dysphoria – 42,000 of whom were diagnosed in 2021. Additionally, the number of those seeking “gender affirming care” through hormones or surgery has also increased.

Similarly, data has also showed that Montgomery County Public Schools, the largest district in Maryland, saw a 582% increase in students identifying as something other than their biological sex since 2019. These statistics were shared by the vice principal at one of the district’s schools, as previously reported by LifeSiteNews.

Nightingale-Bamford, an all-girls school where annual tuition is $59,000, promotes books that explicitly highlight gender transitions and LGBT pride parades to kindergarteners. The school’s library promotes “Pride Puppy,” a book about a dog lost at a gay pride parade; “Julian Is A Mermaid,” a book about a young boy dressing in fairy-tale drag; and “When Aidan Became A Brother,” which tells the story of a transgender child.

“When Aidan was born, everyone thought he was a girl. His parents gave him a pretty name, his room looked like a girl’s room and he wore clothes that other girls liked wearing,” the book description reads. “After he realized he was a trans boy, Aidan and his parents fixed the parts of his life that didn’t fit anymore, and he settled happily into his new life.”

National Review observed that Nightingale-Bamford’s reading list does not explain that “When Aidan Became A Brother” discusses transgenderism in children. Instead, the reading list claims the book is about a boy named Aidan preparing for the arrival of a baby brother.

Nightingale-Bamford’s library also encourages kindergarteners to read “Bodies Are Cool,” in which all the characters use “they” pronouns, and pushes “Melissa” — about a boy named George who “knows she’s not a boy” — for third-graders.

The school’s director of communications told National Review that the school believes the books are “academically appropriate.” The school did not respond to the Daily Caller’s inquiry.

The Chapin School, another elite Upper East Side school, put out a similar book list for its “Lower School” students. The library offers “affirming stories” such as “Bodies Are Cool” and “Fred Gets Dressed,” a story about a boy who prefers to wear his mother’s clothes.

Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn also recommended the book “Pride Puppy” to students as young as five, according to the district’s “Lower School” suggested reading list.

Fifth- and sixth-graders at Saint Ann’s are encouraged to read the book “Zenobia July,” a novel about a transgender middle schooler. For high school students, there’s “Unpregnant,” which tells the story of two minors seeking an abortion across state lines without parental consent.

From what I can tell, literally the only thing that children are learning is gay sex. Maybe the girls are learning to be sluts and have abortions, but that is a fall-back plan for the ones who don’t want to cut their tits off and pretend to be men.

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health’s (WPATH) new guidance lowers the recommended age for cross-sex hormones from 16 to 14 years, according to a guidance draft obtained by The Post Millennial this week. The age for double mastectomies, the removal of breasts, has been lowered to 15. Sixteen-year-old boys may seek breast augmentations, facial surgeries and tracheal shaves to reduce the appearance of an Adam’s apple.

The new guidance also lowers the age for genital surgeries, like hysterectomy and vaginoplasty, to 17 instead of 18. The only surgery recommended for adults age 18 is a phalloplasty, which “is the creation of a pseudopenis from skin grafts taken from elsewhere in the body,” the report states.

WPATH’s off-label puberty blocker recommendation stayed at ages 8-13 for girls and is roughly two years later for boys.

The guidance will be WPATH’s eighth edition. As The Post Millennial notes, WPATH “sets international guidelines and protocols for the medical process of gender transition.” According to the report:

A transgender man has launched an appeal against being called a “mother” on his baby’s birth certificate.

Freddy McConnell, a multimedia journalist for The Guardian, became pregnant and gave birth to the child, but had legally been recognised as a man when the baby was born.

He originally took his case court in a bid to be known on the youngster’s birth certificate as their “father” or “parent” – rather than its mother.

However, in September, Sir Andrew McFarlane, the president of the Family Division of the High Court, who is also the most senior family court judge in England and Wales, said this was not possible.

The struggle is as real as it is moronic.

He ruled that, regardless of gender identity, anyone who legally gives birth to a child is a mother.

But now Mr McConnell has taken his case to the Court of Appeal in a bid to overturn the original ruling.

Next Wednesday, three appeal judges – Lord Chief Justice Lord Burnett, Lady Justice King and Lord Justice Sing – will hear the case.

A Polish city celebrated its first-ever LGBTQ equality march on Saturday, but it struck a starkly different tone to the joyous and hedonistic affairs associated with pride parades.

Ringed by riot police, around 1,000 pride marchers walked defiantly through the streets of the northeastern city of Bialystok as thousands of nationalist football “ultra” fans, far-right groups and others threw flash bombs, rocks and glass bottles.

I wasn’t aware hedonism is now explicitly a virtue.

As counter-protesters yelled “God, honor and motherland” and “Bialystok free of perverts,” the pride marchers chanted “Poland free of fascists” in return. Police said about 4,000 people were involved in demonstrations against the march.

Bags of flour and other objects were thrown out of Communist-era housing blocks at the pride marchers, who were moving along a 3-kilometer (1.8 mile) route through the city center.

According to Bialystok’s police spokesman, Tomasz Krupa, the violence led to the detention of 20 people, four of whom were suspected of committing crimes, including the use of threats and insults against officers.

Good thing the badge niggers were there to defend the freaks and arrest people for… insulting (?) them.

“Rafal” appears to be a very common first name among Jews in Poland.

But the hostile atmosphere did not dampen the mood of a multi-generational group of marchers, who described the event as a victory in their fight for more equality — despite the threats.

“I am trying to see this in a joyful way, but this march is also sad for me because I did not think it would be as dangerous as it is,” Anna Pietrucha, 26, who came from Warsaw to speak at the march, told CNN.

Saturday’s march was one of 24 parades scheduled to take place this year in Poland — a record number that campaigners say is a reaction to the uptick of homophobic and transphobic language by Poland’s Catholic leaders and PiS.

“We are in the middle of an ongoing wave of hateful propaganda, which is fueled by both the state and the Catholic Church,” Hubert Sobecki, co-president of Warsaw-based LGBT+ organization Love Does Not Exclude, told CNN from a cafe in Bialystok.

Bialystok’s Catholic Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda called on congregants to “defend Christian values” by attending the picnic, adding that the LGBTQ march was “an initiative foreign to” the region.

The picnic had bouncy castles, folk musicians and the local army regiment exhibiting its artillery. CNN approached Kosicki, who is from PiS, for an interview, but he declined. PiS and the government also ignored repeated requests for comment by CNN.

Critics say the tactic helps rally its more religious and rural base. “All the signs are showing that Kaczynski will continue with the scapegoat strategy, which goes hand-in-hand with the Polish Catholic church that has made the LGBTQ community its biggest enemy,” said Miroslawa Makuchowska, head of the political division of the Polish advocacy group Campaign Against Homophobia.

In Bialystok, leaflets anonymously placed around the city ahead of the march said that streets would be “contaminated with LGBT bacteria” on Saturday.

“Even though the march faced obstacles … I hope it’s a start of a new mindset here,” Gluszek said in a text message after the march. “The [march’s] participants, mostly Bialystok citizens, didn’t let fear overcome them and showed they are not afraid.”

While authorities ruled that headteacher Matthew Aplin had not committed any crime when he had a menage a trois with two teenage boys he met on the gay dating app Grindr, school governors at Tywyn Primary in Neath Port Talbot in Wales felt that his actions were nonetheless unsuitable for an authority figure at a primary school.

While Aplin agreed to resign, he then issued an employment tribunal claim in which he contested the decision as “unfair dismissal and sexual orientation discrimination.” He also accused those who had managed the case of being “biased and homophobic.”

Given the comparison, they ruled that the decision had been made against Aplin based on his sexual orientation rather than his actions, and reinstated him to his previous position. Despite the tribunal’s decision, the high-profile nature of the case could make things a little awkward in class when he does return.
