A leading activist in China’s MeToo movement has gone on trial for subversion, according to campaigners.

Journalist Sophia Huang Xueqin appeared in court in the southern city of Guangzhou on Friday with her co-accused, labour campaigner Wang Jianbing.

The two were detained in 2021 as part of China’s wide crackdown on activists.

Rights groups have raised concern over their condition while in detention.

Ms Huang, 35, had been sleep deprived and malnourished, a friend told news website Radio Free Asia.

Friday’s hearing proceeded under heavy guard, with authorities surrounding the court house with a fence, said the spokesperson of a group that is campaigning for their freedom.

“There’s a very heavy police presence around the court today because of the trial,” said the spokesperson, who asked not to be named and is also a friend of Ms Huang and Mr Wang.

A family member of Ms Huang was seen entering the court building, the spokesperson told the BBC.

Ms Huang, a freelance journalist, was a prominent figure in the MeToo movement in China, sparking the first MeToo case in 2018 after she helped a graduate student go public with accusations against her PhD supervisor.

Ms Huang also wrote about her experiences on workplace sexual harassment while working at a Chinese news agency.

Many advocates for gender rights and social causes in China choose to remain anonymous and are accused of being “agents of hostile western forces” by state media and nationalists online.

Mr Wang, a strong supporter of gender rights, is better known for defending labour rights and helping workers with disabilities find legal support.

The two were arrested in Guangzhou on 19 September 2021 while travelling to the airport. Ms Huang was on her way to the UK to begin a master’s degree on gender violence and conflict at the University of Sussex when she was detained. Mr Wang, who was was seeing her off, was arrested along with her.

Oh, so she was going to work in London on ways to subvert China.

There are only two sexes, and those who believe otherwise have “missed” basic classes in biology, a Nobel laureate Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard has claimed.

The accomplished German scientist who won the 1995 Nobel prize in Physiology and Medicine for her study of early embryonic development, made the comments ahead of the country’s government pushing for legislation that will allow those over the age of 14 to change their legal gender without medical approval, a move that she slammed as “madness”.

In an interview conducted with feminist magazine Emma, Nüsslein-Volhard denounced any notion that there could be more than two sexes, as well as suggestions that it was possible for someone to change their gender or sex via surgery or legal routes.

“There are people who want to change their gender, but they can’t do it. You remain XY or XX,” the award-winning scientist told the publication.

The medical expert also denounced those looking to use hermaphrodites or other edge cases to justify gender ideology, with Nüsslein-Volhard emphasising that even in these cases, individuals show characteristics of one or both binary sexes.

“Intersexuality is caused by very rare deviations, for example in the chromosome set,” she said. “But intersex people also have the characteristics of both genders, they are not a third gender.”

Nüsslein-Volhard also attacked the practice of giving hormones to people looking to switch gender, with the Nobel laureate claiming that the administration of such drugs over long periods of time was — in her view — likely to result in negative side effects for the user.

The Nobel Laureate also took aim at Germany’s so-called “queer commissioner”, , who claimed that saying there are only two genders is unscientific and that the truth is that there are many genders.

“This is unscientific (sic)!” Nüsslein-Volhard reportedly exclaimed in response. “Perhaps Herr Lehmann missed the basic course in biology… all mammals have two sexes, and man is a mammal.”

“This is madness! At 14, many girls are unhappy in puberty,” she said. “I know that myself. I was also unhappy at 14 and preferred to be a boy. I wasn’t even allowed to wear pants or cut my hair back then.”

“But then you have to find a way to assert yourself. That’s what you advise girls to do and what you have to support them with,” she went on to say.

The way they bring up people with actual birth defects and compare them with trannies is just insidious.

I will never forget talking to a boomer in 2018 whose grandson was being transformed into a tranny by his daughter-in-law, and he thought it was some kind of biological medical condition. He said, “yeah, they’ve found out that he has transgenderism, so they’re working that out.”

It wasn’t my business to try to explain it to him, and I didn’t. But it was clear that he wouldn’t be able to process that this is not a medical condition that results from a birth defect, it is just people claiming that souls can be born in the wrong body.

Even younger people were confused about this when it started back in 2015-17. I guess people just assumed that if it was doctors talking about it, it must be some kind of actual medical condition. I don’t really think you can blame them for making that assumption back then, but now they’ve gone public with this.

They did a bait and switch, where they pretended it was akin to “intersex” – which again, is a birth defect where you are not technically biologically male or female, as you have some combination of the genitalia – and then they pushed it through and all of the sudden announced “no, actually, we believe that…. souls can be born in the wrong bodies, somehow, apparently for no reason, so we’re going to… mutilate people’s genitals and give them a lot of injections for the rest of their lives (which won’t be very long).”

Sandra Newman, author of The Men (a book The Guardian is selling on their bookshop), has been looking at different works of fiction about men being banned from society or ceasing to exist.

The article describes the plot of some of these “female utopias,” and offers a glimpse into the sick yet childish minds of these women. Then, it mentions a few of the more recent books, which appear to be significantly more deranged.

Newman writes for The Guardian:

All the men are gone. Usually this is conceived as the result of a plague. Less often, the cause is violence. Occasionally, the men don’t die and the sexes are just segregated in different geographical regions. Or men miraculously vanish without explanation.

Left to themselves, the women create a better society, without inequality or war. All goods are shared. All children are safe. The economy is sustainable and Earth is cherished. Without male biology standing in the way, utopia builds itself.

I’m describing a subgenre of science fiction, mostly written in the 1970s-90s. It was once so popular it was almost synonymous with feminist SF. In 1995, when the Otherwise Award, a literary prize for “works of science fiction or fantasy that expand or explore one’s understanding of gender”, gave five retrospective awards, four of the works were set in such worlds: Suzy McKee Charnas’s Motherlines and Walk to the End of the World, and Joanna Russ’s The Female Man and When It Changed. The fifth was Ursula K Le Guin’s The Left Hand of Darkness, about a world whose inhabitants are all of the same sex.

Recently there has been a revival of the genre in radically different form, with titles including Lauren Beukes’s 2020 novel Afterland, Christina Sweeney-Baird’s 2021 thriller The End of Men, and my own new release, The Men. I think the way that these contemporary novels diverge from their earlier counterparts tells us something useful about gender politics in the 21st century. Part of the story, too, is a growing opposition to the basic premise, a conflict in which my novel has been recently embroiled.

The women-only utopia has a modest prehistory, going back to the myth of the Amazons and early feminist works such as Christine de Pizan’s 1405 The Book of the City of Ladies. But in its strict form as a single-sex utopia, it begins with Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s Herland of 1915. Here, in an uncharted and unspecified wilderness, three male explorers stumble on a plateau the local “savages” fear as a realm from which no man returns. With their aeroplane, they are able to land there, and are instantly taken prisoner by the all-female inhabitants. The book then becomes a tour of the features of the women’s ideal society.

Women excel in all occupations. Older women gain prestige instead of losing it; the women are physically formidable and easily subdue their male captives. Charmingly, the narrator says of the national costume: “I see that I have not remarked that these women had pockets in surprising number and variety.” Their babies never cry.

Much less charmingly, we’re assured the Herland women are Aryans, and their society is focused on the perfection of their race. In fact, many of the hallmarks of fascism are here: the paganism, the obsession with cleanliness, the emphasis on gymnastics, the eugenics. The Herlanders also have no erotic or even romantic feelings for each other; they have bred those dirty things out.

The golden age of the genre, roughly coinciding with the era of second wave feminism, could scarcely be more different. Here the keynote is freedom, and lesbian polyamory is the order of the day. Solo travel features prominently: the authors are captivated by the idea of women hiking alone into the wilderness without the threat of rape. No regret is expressed about the loss of men, which is always in the distant past. Indeed, the topic is often treated with a bracing gallows humour.

Go hike alone, harpies, and see what you find.

Men are so good at shielding women from reality that women can’t imagine something being a threat to them, similar to how toddlers are oblivious to the daily challenges of their parents.

Joanna Russ’s novel The Female Man (written in 1970 but first published in 1975) is considered the masterpiece of the genre. Here, four versions of the author inhabit four parallel worlds. One is ours, where the protagonist is Joanna. The second is a more conservative New York, where the anxiously conventional Jeannine works to catch a husband she doesn’t truly want.

The third world is Whileaway, Russ’s utopia, where all men died of a plague 800 years earlier. Here, Janet fights duels, roams the wilderness, and is cheerfully promiscuous while adoring her wife, Vittoria, who, she boasts repeatedly, is much admired by Whileawayans for her big ass. Whileaway is a joyous, irreverent creation. Russ makes no apologies for stocking it with her own predilections (we’re left in no doubt of her opinion of big asses). Its people grumble all the time and are often jerks; it is above all things free – though it does have capital punishment for people who don’t do their share of the work. Even if it’s not your idea of paradise, you never doubt Russ would be happy there, which is more than you can say for most utopias and their creators.

The 21st-century revival is a very different animal. First, instead of being a dimly remembered political event, the mass death comes now. It has no good aspects. Men die horribly in front of us. Women are plunged into collective grief. Technological society falls apart for lack of skilled workers, and the world goes into decline. Women, meanwhile, are just as violent as men, and no more cooperative or empathic. The only result of generations of indoctrination into female roles is that girls are crap at engineering.

In Lauren Beukes’s 2020 novel Afterland, a threatened male is again the focus, after 99% of all male humans are killed by a flu that triggers prostate cancer. Survivors are incarcerated by the government and prevented from reproducing until a cure is found. The few free men are pursued by baby-hungry women and hunted by profiteers who want to harvest their sperm. The main character has broken her son out of a research facility and is fleeing with him through a post-apocalyptic world.

Even a recent book by a trans author, Gretchen Felker-Martin’s Manhunt (2022), has drawn criticism online. In this novel, a plague transforms men into mindless, cannibalistic monsters who roam the woods, raping and killing. Trans women must stave off transformation by constantly taking hormones they can only get by killing men and eating their testicles. Meanwhile, they’re being hunted by TERFs (trans-exclusionary radical feminists), who see them as man-monsters waiting to happen. The book is written to graphically convey the terror of transphobia. Still it’s been attacked by some on Twitter for its bioessentialist premise. Although producers of the TV version of Y: The Last Man hired trans writers to make the story more inclusive, it too was considered problematic.

A Scottish domestic abuse watchdog has drawn flak for spreading “woke rot” after claiming that classic children’s book ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ reinforces “harmful” gender stereotypes that could lead to violence against women.

The 1968 picture book – about a talking tiger who shows up uninvited at a house and only leaves after consuming all the family’s food and drink – was termed “problematic” by the charity, Zero Tolerance, because of its “old-fashioned” portrayal of women’s roles in the family.

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, the campaign group’s co-director Rachel Adamson queried why the tiger was represented as male rather than female or gender-neutral, and pointed out the “stereotypical” ending in which the father “saves the day” after coming home from work.

“We know that gender stereotypes are harmful and they reinforce gender inequality,” Adamson said, adding that this inequality was behind violence against women and girls, including “domestic abuse, rape and sexual harassment.”

Describing the author, Judith Kerr, as “wonderful,” Adamson said the story was still “reflective of a society that we need to think more closely about.” She added that the book did not need to be banned and could instead be used to “raise a conversation” in nursery schools.

Kerr’s book – which has reportedly sold more than five million copies since being published – was held up as an example by Zero Tolerance for why “parents and nurseries [need to] look closely at their bookshelves,” The Telegraph reported.

On Monday, the publicly funded charity published the findings of a “gender and diversity audit” of over 3,000 books in 21 nurseries across Scotland – only three of which passed the test. To pass, the book collection must have “more books that don’t promote gender stereotyping” than ones that do.

The group also said boys who “believe in rigid gender norms” were “more likely to become perpetrators of violence against women and girls.”

At this point, there really is no end to this stuff.

These people now feed on attacks, and they will attack everything until there is nothing left.

Putting the warrior in social justice warrior, the rebooted version of the classic TV series Kung Fu debuts Wednesday on the teen-oriented CW network. In place of the late David Carradine, the woke series features a feminist heroine and an overarching emphasis on “social justice.”

Show creator Christina M. Kim said it was important to move away from Carradine’s white, male protagonist.

“In the original series, the lead character was not Asian,” Kim said during a recent press event, according to a report from Yahoo Entertainment. “For me, it was important that we change that, and for myself as a woman, I really wanted a strong female Asian lead who was kicking butt and was the role model that I wished I had on TV growing up.”

David Carradine’s character was not white, he was half-Chinese.

Carradine is white, but he played a half-Chinese character, and I’ve seen interviews where he said that he would squint a little bit to make his eyes seem smaller.

I can’t find the interview now, because you can’t find anything on the internet anymore, but you can tell from images from the show he was squinting.

I’m sure squinting to show your character is half-Chinese is now some kind of racism.

The new Kung Fu focuses on a female Chinese-American law-school dropout who becomes a martial arts warrior (Olivia Liang). After mastering kung fu, she returns home to San Francisco to protect her parents and to fight violent triads.

Liang said the show offers an opportunity to address Asian on-screen representation.

“I think the timing of our show is really impeccable,” she reportedly said. “We Asians need to see ourselves represented on the screens, but we need to be invited into people’s homes who don’t see us in their everyday life, just to humanize us, normalize seeing us, remind them that we are people just like they are and that we have a place in this world, and hopefully having our show in their homes will expand that worldview for them.”

Actress Kheng Hua Tan, who plays her mother, reportedly said the show will emphasize “social justice” by showing “characters of all ages and all walks of life trying to work together to do what’s best for the community to help.”

This Asian Lives Matter thing is going wreck me.

However, it does remind me of something that happened to me recently when I was visiting my local Walmart for supplies to get me through the summer of coronavirus. I walked into the Walmart, in a pretty heavily Chinese part of my town here in Canada, and everybody was Kung-Fu fighting. Those cats were fast as lightening. In fact, it was a little bit frightening. They fought with expert timing.

They were funk Chinamen, from funky Chinatown. They were chopping them up, they were chopping them down. It’s an ancient Chinese art and everybody knew their part – from a feint into a slip and a kicking from the hip.

Really weird experience, frankly, and I’ve had a lot of weird experiences at Walmart.

Confrontations between women’s rights advocates and other groups unfolded in Paris on Sunday, as activists demonstrated against sexual violence and gender-based discrimination ahead of International Women’s Day. The globally recognized holiday, which fell on Monday this year, is celebrated annually on March 8.

As shown in tweets, advocates rallying against pornography and prostitution climbed the central monument in Paris’ Place de la République, displaying signs that encouraged sex workers to exit from the industry and called for resources making it easier to do so. But others, identified as “queer activists” by some social media users, struck back, appearing to spray-paint “Save 1 Trans Person, Kill 1 TERF” at the base of the monument. TERF is an acronym for “trans-exclusionary radical feminist.”

“We managed to climb the statue in the Place de la République and show off our banners condemning the violence suffered by women in the porno prostitution industry,” wrote Twitter user @radfmnst in a thread. “The messages read: ‘We want more means for women to get our of prostitution’, ‘Porn producers = pimps.’”

After that we formed a kind of barricade at the foot of the statue to make sure no one manages to climb it and attack the ones who were at the top with the banners.

Maybe we’re finally going to get a total mess on the left due to their conflicting ideologies. A Peruvian court has declared that a woman who wore red underwear to a party could not have been raped because the garment signalled she intended to have sex.

The South Zone Transitory Supraprovincial Collegiate Criminal Court ruled in a rape case that the complainant’s choice of lacy red knickers gave the impression she was ‘prepared or willing’ to have sex with the defendant.

The judges said that the victim was not shy and reserved as she claimed, citing her choice of underwear as evidence and acquitting the defendant.

The decision, made in the city of Ica on October 29, sparked outrage in Peru, where women having taken to the streets in protest – some with red knickers around their legs.

The identities of those involved in the case – first reported in late January 2019 – have not been included in official documents.

However, Peruvian media have named the accused as a 22-year-old man. The victim – who has not been named in the media – is reportedly a 20-year-old woman.

According to local media, the woman said she fell unconscious at a party after being taken their by the accused who told her they were going to collect some official documents.

The following day she awoke naked in the accused’s bed.

The accused maintains that the allegations are an act of ‘revenge’ against him by the victim.

Judges Ronald Anayhuaman Andia, Diana Jurado Espino and Lucy Castro Chacaltana argued that the complainant had misrepresented herself, claiming that women only wear red underwear when intending to have sex.

‘The supposed personality represented by her [the victim] (shy) does not relate to the undergarment she used on the day of the incident as this type of women’s underwear is normally used on special occasions leading to moments of intimacy, which gives the impression that the woman prepared or willing to have sexual relations with the accused.’

The judges also claimed there were ‘omissions’ in the complainant’s testimonies.

Video shows women and others gathered outside the Ica courthouse to protest the decision and chanting A Rapist in Your Path – a feminist protest song.

Protests have also been held in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

Look, maybe she did consent to sex at the time, but that doesn’t mean that she wasn’t raped. It’s likely that she regrets having sex with him, for whatever reason, and that makes her feel bad.

People wouldn’t willingly choose to do something that makes them feel bad, so, as a matter of fact, she was indeed raped, because she wouldn’t have chosen to have sex with him if she knew that it would make her feel bad.

That’s how it works in the Western world nowadays — but not in Peru, for now.

A specialist obstetrician in the state of Queensland, gynaecologist and anatomy lecturer, Dr Kristin Small, is urging her students to drop gender bias and what she calls irrelevant and misogynistic medical language.

She believes the terms invoke the jaded beliefs of older generations and wants more practical and descriptive terms for body parts.

“I think we have a personal choice to decolonise our language and these historical terms will fade out,” Dr Small told the Brisbane Courier Mail.

All of you will be shocked to find out that she’s old and ugly.

The uglier a woman is, the more likely she is to be a feminist – it’s a basic law of nature.

Dr Small makes sure her students still know the accepted, older terms for exam purposes but maintains there are always alternatives for the “dead man’s name.”

Council member for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Dr Nisha Khot, is another teaching trainee doctors to look at alternative terminology.

The newspaper reports she also wants to defeat a patriarchal history of medical definition which reinforces the fact women are not represented in most of the 700 parts of the body named after people.

Women are not represented because the vast majority of these body parts were classified by men, just like the vast majority of all science was created by men.

They’re allowed to name stuff they discover after themselves, or give it whatever other name they want to, as a sign of respect for their work.

Not only are most women not capable of any level of gratitude, they can’t even grasp the basic concept of it.

“The young trainee doctors are mostly keen to learn the more relevant language and are often shocked when they hear the origins of some medical terms,” she said.

The word “hysterectomy” originated from a time when women were treated for female hysteria by removing the uterus.

Dr Small lamented much of the female reproductive system is named “after dead dudes” and inhibits her desire to subvert the patriachy in a modern, practical way.
