An 18-year-old Florida man was arrested by St. Petersburg Police on July 1 for doing burnouts with his vehicle that left skid marks on a rainbow “Pride” mural in May.

According to law enforcement, Christian Maier was caught on video damaging a pro-LGBT street painting on May 22 at 2:40 a.m. The crosswalk experienced a similar act of protest just five days earlier on May 17 at 9:30 a.m. Police say the two incidents are not related.

Maier was released from Pinellas County Jail after posting a $5,500 bond. He pleaded not guilty to two felony charges for criminal mischief and racing on a street. The mischief charge was originally a misdemeanor but later deemed a felony due to the damages exceeding $1,000. Maier has not been charged with a hate crime at this time.

Acts of protests like the one carried out by Maier are seemingly becoming a common occurrence in the United States. As reported by LifeSite in June, three teenage boys in Spokane, Washington could face up to five years in jail and up to $10,000 in fines for putting skid marks on a rainbow-colored street mural with their scooters. Three other acts of vandalism, all unrelated, have been carried out on the mural since October 2023.

The Tampa Bay Times has likewise reported that a 19-year-old male was arrested for allegedly defacing a rainbow “Pride” mural in Delray Beach in March.

Yeah, the good news is, kids are getting sick of having this forced down their throats.

“Openly genderfluid” Sam Brinton, the MIT grad who joined the Joe Biden administration earlier this year as the deputy assistant secretary of the Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the U.S. Department of Energy, was charged with a felony last month for allegedly stealing a woman’s luggage.

The incident allegedly occurred at Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) International Airport on September 16 when a woman arriving from New Orleans went to the baggage carousel only to find that her navy blue Vera Bradley roller bag was missing.

The female victim, who estimated the bag cost $2,325, confirmed to police that the navy blue bag that Brinton took in the surveillance footage indeed belonged to her.

On October 9, police questioned Brinton about the bag and if he “took anything that did not belong” to him. Brinton reportedly responded, “Not that I know of.”

“If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I don’t have any clothes for another individual. That was my clothes when I opened the bag,” he told the police.

Two hours after the interview, Brinton then allegedly called the investigating officer and admitted to not being “completely honest.” According to Brinton, he mistakenly took the navy blue bag due to him being tired from his trip and “got nervous” upon realizing that the bag belonged to someone else when arriving at his hotel room. Not knowing what to do, Brinton then allegedly told police that he left the woman’s clothes in the hotel room drawers and took the bag with him anyway in order to keep up appearances.

Brinton has allegedly not returned the bag to the female victim and police said no clothing was recovered from the hotel room. His first court hearing is scheduled for December 19 in Hennepin County.

Parents in Virginia could face felony or misdemeanor child abuse charges if they refuse to “affirm” their child’s gender identity.

Virginia state Del. Elizabeth Guzman (D) plans to introduce legislation in order to combat Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s (R) model policies on the treatment of “transgender” students in Virginia schools.

“The day that Gov. Youngkin wanted to implement this policy, I immediately texted the policy lead of that committee and said, this is how we’re going to push back,” Guzman, who is a social worker, said to ABC 7 News.

The planned bill would expand the definition of child abuse to include parents who are not willing to “affirm” their child’s stated gender identity or sexual orientation, with Guzman telling the outlet that if a child reports such an incident, “the job of that mandated reporter is to inform Child Protective Services (CPS).”

Depending on the results of that investigation, Guzman said penalties could range from misdemeanor to felony abuse charges for parents and implied a goal of damaging the reputations of these parents if they do not follow the prescribed gender ideology.

The armed man who is accused of attacking Dave Chappelle on stage at the Hollywood Bowl is now facing several misdemeanor charges related to the incident.

Earlier on Thursday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced 23-year-old Isaiah Lee won’t face any felony charges and referred the case to the L.A. City Attorney, who only handles misdemeanors.

Lee has been charged with battery, possession of a weapon with intent to assault, and two charges related to interfering with a performer.

“This alleged attack has got to have consequences,” said L.A. City Attorney Mike Feuer in a video message. “My office takes protecting public safety extremely seriously, and we’re going to vigorously prosecute this case.”

Lee was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon shortly after tackling the comedian Tuesday night. He’s being held on $30,000 bail. It’s unclear what motivated Lee to run onto the stage.

County prosecutors determined that while criminal conduct occurred “the evidence as presented did not constitute felony conduct.”

Police said Lee was armed with a replica handgun-knife when he ran onto the stage and tackled Chappelle. Witness video shows Chappelle falling back but he managed to quickly free himself as security rushed out to grab the attacker.

According to ABC News sources, L.A. County prosecutors chose not to move forward with felony charges because Lee wasn’t brandishing the knife.

He reportedly had it in some sort of bag.

A man who pleaded guilty to breaching the Senate chamber during the US Capitol insurrection was sentenced Monday to eight months in prison in a closely watched case that could influence how hundreds of other rioters charged with the same felony are punished.

Paul Hodgkins, a 38-year-old Floridian, is now the first Capitol rioter convicted of a felony to be sentenced. He pleaded guilty last month to obstructing congressional proceedings — specifically, the counting of the electoral votes, which he helped delay on January 6. He spent about 15 minutes inside the Senate chamber, wearing a Donald Trump shirt and carrying a Trump flag.

The sentence is far less than the 1.5-year prison term that the Justice Department requested. At a hearing Monday, prosecutors argued that 1.5 years would deter future political violence and send a strong warning to “people who may be contemplating a second act” after January 6.

District Judge Randolph Moss departed from that recommendation. He said Hodgkins contributed to a grave offense against democracy but deserved some leniency because he pleaded guilty “exceptionally early,” wasn’t involved in violence and issued a “sincere” apology.

“Hodgkins was staking a claim on the floor of the United States Senate, not with the American flag but with a flag declaring his loyalty to a single individual over the entire nation,” Moss said.

“When a mob is prepared to attack the Capitol to prevent elected officials from both parties from performing their constitutional and statutory duty, democracy is in trouble,” Moss added.

Moss — and his reasoning — could set a benchmark for other Capitol riot cases. Nearly 550 rioters have been charged, and the Justice Department says at least 230 of them have been charged with the same obstruction-of-Congress crime to which Hodgkins pleaded guilty.

Haggling over prison time

Justice Department lawyers made an impassioned case that the January 6 attack “was an act of domestic terrorism,” even if Hodgkins isn’t a domestic terrorist and hasn’t been charged under terrorism statutes. But they urged the judge to match the severity of the attack by giving him a 1.5-year prison term, which was in the middle of the agreed-upon guidelines in his plea deal.

Prosecutor Mona Sedky said 1.5 years would “send a loud and clear message to other would-be rioters that, if and when they’re caught, they will be held accountable … people who might be contemplating a sequel to the January 6 will stand down, and there won’t be a next time.”

The judge explained how he struggled to “strike that balance” between reconciling the horrors of an attack on Congress while also narrowly punishing Hodgkins for what he actually did that day.

“The damage that they caused that day is way beyond the delays that day. It is a damage that will persist in this country for decades,” Moss said, adding that the attack makes it harder for US diplomats to promote democracy abroad, and that the lawmakers, staffers and police who ran for, or feared for, their lives during the assault “will be traumatized for the rest of their lives.”

That being said, Moss continued, “Hodgkins did some very bad things that day and caused some real damage to this country, but I don’t consider him to be a threat or see him as an evil person.

This is a very bad episode in his life and a very bad episode in this country … some sentences will be far higher, and some will be far lower. This is what I believe is a fair sentence.”

In addition to prison, Hodgkins was ordered to pay $2,000 to repair damage to the Capitol.

On paper, the obstruction charge carries a maximum 20 years in prison, but judges rarely give defendants the maximum punishment. The sentencing guidelines, based on the specifics of this case and Hodgkins’ history, suggested he might receive between one to two years in prison.

The judge said Hodgkins could self-surrender when prison officials tell him where he will serve his sentence. He walked out of the DC federal courthouse after the two-hour hearing and was smiling while reporters shouted questions at him and his attorney while they exited the area.

‘I am truly remorseful’

Every seat in the courtroom was taken. His parents were in the back row of the courtroom, with his father holding a rosary to his chest during much of the proceedings. Hodgkins, who wore his long hair in a low ponytail, wore a black suit with a blue tie and often looked back at his parents.

Hodgkins made a 10-minute statement during the hearing, where he apologized for his actions and begged the judge to spare him from prison so he wouldn’t lose his job and his rental home.

“I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I am truly remorseful and regretful for my actions in Washington, DC, on January 6. … I say this because of the damage that day’s incident caused and the way this country that I love has been hurt,” Hodgkins said.

He continued, “I came to DC with the intention of supporting a president I love at his event and participating in a march on Pennsylvania Avenue. The storming of the US Capitol building was not something I had any idea would happen.”

He said he acknowledges that President Joe Biden is the legitimate president. He told the judge that he started going to church, stopped drinking alcohol and that he took the Covid-19 vaccine.

An American Airlines employee was arrested at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport earlier this week after she was allegedly caught traveling with a stolen gun.

Elvira Thomas, 62, was not working when the firearm was found, but was traveling on July 3 — just before the busy travel holiday. Transportation Security Administration officials noticed the gun as it passed through an X-ray scanner, WSOC-TV reported.

According to jail records, Thomas was charged with felony possession of a stolen firearm and a misdemeanor possession of a firearm on city property.

Thomas has been placed on administration leave pending the outcome of the investigation, American Airlines told Fox News. The airline said all employees undergo background checks prior to being hired.
