A former Conservative MP’s late mother was forced to endure diversity training and barred from the party after liking a social media post about illegal migration.

Dame Andrea Jenkyns, who has since defected to Reform UK, said that her mother, Valerie, was handed a 10-module “woke” course after liking the post – and was stripped of her Tory membership to boot.

Conservative HQ contacted Valerie in early 2020 about social media posts which she had liked as many as six years earlier.

The posts are said to have been related to grooming gangs and calls to deport illegal migrants.

Jenkyns, now running to be the mayor of Greater Lincolnshire, said that her mother used a smartphone to scroll through social media sites, and frequently liked posts by mistake – including posts by the Labour candidate in her former Morley and Outwood constituency.

Valerie, in her late 70s, was immediately suspended as a Conservative Party member – barring her from attending local association meetings in support of her daughter.

In an email from February 2021, one CCHQ official wrote: “As you are aware, as part of a sanction you were issued under the party’s social media complaints rules, you are required to complete the following training course if you wish to rejoin the party when your suspension has finished.

“I encourage you to approach the training with an open mind.”

But the course included questions on “everything to do with diversity you could possibly think of” including different genders, Jenkyns said.

The Tory defector said she stepped in to take the course on her mother’s behalf and was forced to answer questions like “what is a pansexual?”.

Yeah…

“I did the course for her because it was a matter of principle for me to get her back into the party with her daughter being an MP,” she said.

“To make a woman in her late 70s do a course like that… it’s a joke. She was upset because her daughter was a Conservative MP and she couldn’t even be in my association to vote for me.”

It eventually took a year and a half to reinstate Valerie’s membership. She died in December 2022.

It doesn’t have to be like this.

That split reflects the GOP’s identity crisis over post-Roe v Wade abortion politics, as Republican politicians have struggled to talk about an issue that was once their bread-and-butter but has become increasingly toxic for them.

The first openly transgender person to run for the federal Conservatives warns that a policy adopted by the party over the weekend could harm gender-diverse children if it ever becomes law.

However, Hannah Hodson said she feels it’s unlikely the contentious policy would be a top priority for the Conservatives if the party is voted into power.

“If these policies (are) passed, people are going to die, children are going to die in this country without access to any gender-affirming care,” said Hodson, who ran for the party in the 2021 federal election in Victoria, B.C.

Party delegates voted in favour of a future Conservative government prohibiting “medicinal or surgical interventions” for gender-diverse and transgender children on Saturday. The vote came during a three-day policy convention in Quebec City.

The proposal, which passed with assent from 69 per cent of the voting members, came from a riding in British Columbia.

However, like past leaders, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has said he is not bound to include the policies adopted at party policy conventions into an eventual election platform.

After the proposal that any future Conservative government prohibit “life-altering medicinal or surgical interventions” for those under 18 was accepted, Hodson posted online about the betrayal she felt.

“To all the (Conservative Party of Canada) people who have told me they love me, support me, and would fight for me, and who are now telling me to calm down and just go along with this,” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I see you and I will not forget.”

The vote comes as the issue of children and gender identity is gaining traction among Conservatives in both Canada and the United States.

Hodson said Canadian politics is beginning to resemble the American playbook.

“There’s a long and storied history of political actors using vulnerable minorities in order to early on achieve power, raise money,” she said in an interview. “It is like, ‘Hey look over there, not over here at this other serious problem, that we’re not fixing.'”

Hodson said she began distancing herself from the Conservative party after last year’s “Freedom Convoy” protests in Ottawa, where she and her friends were subjected to harassment.

She finally withdrew her membership when New Brunswick instituted a policy in June requiring students under 16 who are questioning their gender identity to get their parents’ consent before teachers can use their preferred first names or pronouns at school.

“Pierre Poilievre gave it tacit approval,” Hodson said. “That really just was the last straw.”

Poilievre was asked about the province’s decision earlier this summer, and he suggested Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should stay out of the issue, saying he believes the matter is one for the province and parents to decide.

At this rate, Canada is liable to lose their status as the most trannified country in the world.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservative government is reportedly set to delay new guidance for schools on transgenderism after it was warned by the attorney general that it might contravene the Equalities Act passed under a Labour government.

The government’s much-touted attempt to combat schools enabling child transgenderism and keeping parents in the dark that was expected to be introduced this week will reportedly be shelved for the time being over concerns that it might violate the Equalities Act of 2010, passed by the left-wing Labour Party under former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, which makes “gender reassignment” a protected characteristic.

The planned guidance was set to prohibit schools from allowing children from “socially transitioning” their gender without parental consent. However, according to a report from The Times of London, Attorney General Victoria Prentis determined that such a move would breach the law and that the government would need to pass new legislation rather than just issuing guidance to schools.

A government source told the paper: “We have consistently said that this is about protecting children, empowering parents, and supporting teachers and school leaders by providing guidance for them to implement. It’s a complex and sensitive area and it’s right we get it right. More information is needed about the long-term implications of allowing a child to act as though they are the opposite sex and the impact that may have on other children too.”

A Whitehall source added: “The government wants to go further but the problem is that this is guidance. It is coming up against the Equalities Act which is the law. If the government wants to go further, it has to change the law.”

Left-wing opponents of the planned guidance have claimed that by requiring parental consent, the government would be forcing schools to “out” allegedly transgender children to their parents.

Equalities Minister Kemi Badenoch, who was a favourite of traditional conservatives to replace Boris Johnson in last year’s Tory leadership race, has urged for the government to go further, arguing that before allowing a child to “socially transition” — changing their pronouns and appearance to the opposite gender — a medical check should be conducted even if parents consent to the move.

However, not all are on the same side within the Conservative government, with Education Secretary Gillian Keegan saying that it would be “unreasonable” for schools to prevent a child from transitioning their gender if there is parental consent.

MPs have voted down a proposal from Andrew Bridgen that sought to change the law to ban the promotion or discussion of gender transitioning in schools.

The Reclaim Party MP attempted to use a 10-minute rule motion to introduce a bill on gender and parental rights in schools to the House.

But in a rare move, a group of MPs forced a vote to block the introduction of his proposed bill, with Labour former minister Sir Ben Bradshaw describing Mr Bridgen’s proposal as “despicable”.

MPs voted by 40 votes to 34, majority six, to block a bill being introduced.

Ten-minute rule motions offer backbench MPs an opportunity to present an idea for legislation to the Commons with a speech lasting no more than 10 minutes.

Even if accepted, such bills are unlikely to then progress further due to a lack of parliamentary time to debate bills tabled by backbench MPs.

Mr Bridgen is the MP for North West Leicestershire and was expelled from the Conservatives for comparing vaccines to the Holocaust.

He said his proposed bill would “prohibit the promotion of social transition practices in schools”, require schools to inform parents “if their child has indicated an intention to pursue or has commenced social transition”, give parents the right to access information about sex education lessons in schools, among other things.

“Social transition in children will be forbidden. The promotion of social transitioning and the discussion of social transitioning practices would be prohibited from appearing on any aspect of a school curriculum,” he said.

The MP added: “Where gender identity is taught, it will be taught alongside opposing views to allow for a fair presentation of political beliefs.”

He told the Commons: “Under all our noses, members of society, either politically or educationally tasked with helping bring up our children have turned raising the next generation into a science experiment with consequences that break my heart.”

“Social transition practices in school have now become the norm in every classroom in the country,” he warned, adding “Gender ideology is a political ideology. One that has been effectively promoted in schools, and therefore constitutes political indoctrination.”

He also hit out at the level of detail children are exposed to in sexual education classes at a young age.

He said: “We have a duty to safeguard our children and preserve their innocence, protect them from the complexities of adult life, until they reach an appropriate age where they are mature enough to engage with topics and fully understand them.

“What is happening in our schools in unacceptable and there is a need for immediate action.”

“Inclusivity has become a double-edged sword cutting through the very fabric of childhood. Every child has the right to innocence and immunity from the sexual perversions of adults,” he said.

He claimed parents have been “left in the dark and even actively blocked from seeing the material taught to their own children”.

Ending his speech, he said: “Our children are not guinea pigs, it’s high time this House took charge and stopped allowing ideologies passed down from mad scientists which treat them as such.

“My proposed bill will protect children, reassure parents, and offer certainty to teachers.”

The rules of the House allow an MP to make a counter speech to a 10-minute rule motion.

Sir Ben told the Commons: “Trans and non-binary people have always existed.

The British government only managed to remove 215 of the tens of thousands of illegal migrants who crossed the English Channel in small boats last year, government figures have revealed.

In yet another failure to “take back control” of the nation’s borders, the Home Office, the main immigration enforcement arm of the UK government, was only able to deport 215 of the record 45,728 illegal boat migrants that landed on British beaches in 2022.

The striking figures, which were revealed by a Freedom of Information request, mean that the government had just a 0.47 per cent success rate in deporting boat migrants, GB News reported.

Conservative MP Natalie Elphicke, who represents the Dover area — the main landing point for the people-smuggler operate boats — told The Sun newspaper: “The number of Channel migrants who are deported or returned is so low it’s not serving as a deterrent.

“That’s why it is vital to stop the boats leaving France in the first place — and migrants picked up in the Channel should be immediately returned to France. The Home Office needs to get a grip on their processing to deport without delay.”

Last year, the Home Office, under then-secretary Priti Patel signed an agreement with the Rwandan government to establish processing centres for illegal migrants. Although leaving the European court has been advocated for by current Home Secretary Suella Braverman, there has been little movement on the issue from Downing Street.

Responding to the latest deportation failures, a Home Office spokesman said: “The significant increase in dangerous and illegal journeys into this country puts great pressure on the asylum system, slowing down the processing of individual cases who could face deportation or removal.

“The Illegal Migration Bill will stop the boats and ensure those arriving illegally are detained and promptly removed to their country of origin or a safe third country.”

Basically, the situation is too far gone at this point.
