President Trump’s son Eric accused Bob Woodward on Wednesday of writing a sensational book to “make three extra shekels” — prompting the Watergate journalist to say “talk like that… it sets us back.”

In an interview on “Fox & Friends,” Eric Trump accused Woodward of penning “Fear: Trump in the White House” as a greedy cash grab.

“Don’t you think people look through the fact that you can write a sensational, nonsense book, CNN will definitely have you on there because they love to trash the president,” Eric Trump told said. “It will mean you sell three extra books, you make three extra shekels.”

The shekel is an ancient currency that’s still used in modern Israel — and some said that his use of the term “shekels” to describe a greedy act was anti-Semitic.

Woodward later called Eric Trump’s comments unfortunate.

“I just hope no one would talk like that, frankly,” Woodward told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “It sets us back.”

Though media outlets (including JTA) widely reported that she is Jewish, she is in fact not a Jew, a White House Press Office representative confirmed to JTA on Tuesday. The representative declined to give her name.

Following a Monday announcement by the couple that they were expecting a baby boy, it seems Jewish media outlets went into a bit of a baby frenzy.

The false impression that Lara Yunaska Trump, a former personal trainer and producer for CBS’s “Inside Edition,” is Jewish seems to trace back to a 2014 article in the New York Post that said the couple wed under “a crystal-embellished chuppa” (with Jewish brother-in-law Jared Kushner officiating). It’s not clear what Jared did, or whether canopy was, in fact, inspired by Jewish custom, but following the publication of that article, Jewish media outlets (along with some anti-Semitic ones) referred to her as Jewish.

Ethnicelebs.com, a website that traces the ancestry of celebrities, debunked the claim in July — reporting Lara instead to be of Slovak, English, German, remote Swiss-German and Dutch heritage — but that didn’t put the rumor to rest.

At JTA, we should have checked before running with the unsubstantiated information.

A video claiming to be from Anonymous led to a post on the website Ghostbin, where unidentified people posted a Social Security number for Trump that appears to have been floating around online since at least 2013. It was unclear whether the number was actually Trump’s.

The post also listed a cell phone number for Trump — which the Republican front-runner himself tweeted out in August 2015, one day after Gawker published the number.

Other information in the post alleging to be from Anonymous included such publicly available information as the names of Trump’s children and the address of Trump Tower. It is a common tactic among online pranksters to publish information that is already available on the Internet and act as though it is new.
