Remember when the American government accused Huawei of being a security risk? Now the government (full text of the bill can be found here) wants every company that makes encrypted devices and operating systems to give them the key to decrypt people’s data, effectively making these companies a security risk for their consumers.

Bitcoin.com:

US lawmakers have introduced the Lawful Access to Encrypted Data Act to ensure law enforcement can access encrypted information. This bill is “a full-frontal nuclear assault on encryption in the United States,” one expert says. It requires manufacturers of encrypted devices and operating systems to have the ability to decrypt data upon request, creating a backdoor requirement.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham and U.S. Senators Tom Cotton and Marsha Blackburn introduced the Lawful Access to Encrypted Data Act on Tuesday. The new bill “would bring an end to warrant-proof encryption in devices, platforms, and systems,” the committee’s announcement reads.

“Terrorists and criminals routinely use technology, whether smartphones, apps, or other means, to coordinate and communicate their daily activities,” Senator Graham said. He claims that law enforcement could not access “vital information” in many recent “terrorism cases and serious criminal activity” even after a court order was issued. Senator Cotton elaborated, “Tech companies’ increasing reliance on encryption has turned their platforms into a new, lawless playground of criminal activity,” adding:

“This bill will ensure law enforcement can access encrypted material with a warrant based on probable cause and help put an end to the Wild West of crime on the internet.”

Terrorist and criminals routinely use the internet to communicate and organize, so we need to make sure that we can access the data of every internet-enabled device.

Also, the criminals communicate face to face too, so we need every citizen to carry at all times a microphone that will be sending real-time audio data to law enforcement in order to determine the lawfulness of their face-to-face communications.

It would be similar to how police officers have to carry their body cam around.

The bill also “allows the Attorney General to issue directives to service providers and device manufacturers to report on their ability to comply with court orders, including timelines for implementation,” the committee’s announcement reveals. “The Government would be responsible for compensating the recipient of a directive for reasonable costs incurred in complying with the directive.”

Furthermore, the committee noted that the bill “Promotes technical and lawful access training and provides real-time assistance” and “Directs the Attorney General to create a prize competition to award participants who create a lawful access solution in an encrypted environment, while maximizing privacy and security.”

Riana Pfefferkorn, associate director of surveillance and cybersecurity at the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School, calls the bill “a full-frontal nuclear assault on encryption in the United States.” She exclaimed:

“This bill is the encryption backdoor mandate we’ve been dreading was coming, but that nobody, during the past six years of the renewed crypto wars, had previously dared to introduce. Well, these three senators finally went there.”

Andi Wilson Thompson, senior policy analyst at New America’s Open Technology Institute, shares the sentiment, explaining: “This bill is just another attack on encryption, and trying to portray it as a ‘balanced solution’ that could protect privacy is just an attempt to distract from its true intent.” Thompson focuses on issues including digital security, vulnerabilities equities, encryption, and internet freedom.

The Lawful Access to Encrypted Data Act “is actually even more out of touch with reality than many other recent anti-encryption bills,” said Andrew Crocker, a senior staff attorney on the civil liberties team of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). He added that the new bill is “even worse than EARN IT,” which he described as “a dangerous anti-speech and anti-security bill that would hand a government commission, led by the Attorney General, the power to determine ‘best practices’ online.”

The timing here is interesting, what with the WHO demanding aggressive tracking of people and people being distracted with Black Lives Matter protests or too fatigued to be paying attention due to the lockdown and coronavirus hoax.

Even if the bill is scrapped, they’ll try again later. They have a history of trying again and again until they get what they want.

This whole thing about needing to track people because of a virus that is no more threatening than the flu, talking about mass vaccinations, immunity certificates, and making sure that people respect the lockdown fits perfectly with their goal of having total access to people’s information.

No more rights and no more privacy. Those risk people’s lives. Safety is the only thing that matters, and the government knows exactly how to keep you safe.

Iran is Suing Telegram App for Being Too Secure https://www.anglinarchive.com/2017/09/27/iran-is-suing-telegram-app-for-being-too-secure/ Wed, 27 Sep 2017 00:00:00 +0000 Andrew Anglin

When I saw the lawsuit headline, I figured they were being sued for bad security – which would be bad.

But in fact they’re being sued for good security.

Which implies it’s a good app. It doesn’t necessarily mean that – it just implies it.

RT:

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov is facing criminal charges in Iran due to the encrypted messaging application’s popularity with terrorists, child pornographers and other criminal elements, Tehran prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi has said.

Telegram is “providing services to terrorist groups such as IS (Islamic State, formerly ISIS/ISIL), creating a suitable platform for the activities of other groups and promoting and facilitating the perpetration of child pornography, human trafficking and narcotics trafficking,” Dolatabadi said as cited by BBC Persian.

The prosecutor didn’t specify the charges against the Russian entrepreneur, only saying that the case has been referred to the international affairs division of Tehran Prosecutor’s Office. According to Dolatabadi, “Western law” didn’t apply to the Iranian case against Telegram.

Durov can only be tried by Iran in absentia as he lives outside of the Islamic Republic and is unlikely to come to Iran for the trial. The entrepreneur holds passports of Russia as well as Saint Kitts and Nevis, with his place of residence unknown to the public.

Does he even exist?

Durov was addressed on the Iranian charges on Twitter. He replied that he was “surprised” to hear the news.

“We are actively blocking terrorist and pornographic content in Iran,” he wrote.

According to the entrepreneur, Telegram’s moderators have been blocking around 1,000 channels, chats and bots with terrorist or pornographic content in Iran on a daily basis.

“I think the real reasons are different,” Durov suggested, allegedly referring to the row between the Iranian authorities and Telegram.

The encrypted app allows millions of users in Iran to bypass the country’s ban on social media.

Telegram also has a feature, which lets users to set their messages to “self-destruct” after they were read by the addressee.

The app has been previously blamed for being used by the terrorists and other criminals for communication purposes.

Indonesia blocked the web versions of Telegram in July, arguing that “many channels in the service are propaganda of radicalism, terrorism, hatred, invitation or how to assemble bombs, how to attack.”

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) also said Telegram was used by the terrorists behind the St Petersburg metro suicide attack which killed in 15 people in April.

Obviously, terrorism is bad, but an app that can be used successfully by terrorists to communicate is probably good.

Encryption of chat rooms is always going to be more complicated and way less secure than encryption of one-to-one communication.

But I think Telegram is a good option for people to use. I recommend Book Club guys use this. Though I have recommended Discord before, due to it’s functionality, it is basically as bad as Skype as far as security, and following Charlottesville, it looks like they might have been monitoring people’s private communications.

You can use it for bullshitting and shitposting, but for anything more serious, you should use an encrypted app.

Signal is best, but only allows 1-on-1 communication.

I think Signal even signaled us in an ad – look at the middle there.

The problem with Telegram is that as of right now, it requires a phone number to register to use it. But once you’ve registered the number, you are good – so you can buy a disposable SIM card and then trash it.

It has a desktop version which is very good. I’ve started using it since Laura Loomer got us all banned from Discord.

France and Germany Demand Ability to Read All Messaging Apps to Fight Terrorists They Buried You With https://www.anglinarchive.com/2016/08/23/france-and-germany-demand-ability-to-read-all-messaging-apps-to-fight-terrorists-they-buried-you-with/ Tue, 23 Aug 2016 00:00:00 +0000 Andrew Anglin

“The goyim are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid their own foot is taken.” -Pslam 9:15

Oh, you silly, stupid goyim.

The net which you made on which to hide is now filled with terrorists whom you invited to live in your country.

Hide no more can you goyim on this net.

If you goyim didn’t want to have your every move monitored by ZOG, you shouldn’t have invited all of these terrorists into your base to live on welfare.

AP:

France and Germany pushed Tuesday for Europe-wide rules requiring messaging apps such as Telegram to limit encryption to help governments monitor communications among suspected extremists.

Privacy advocates argue that encryption is essential to online security, notably for banking transactions. But encrypted apps are also increasingly used by extremists to hide their location, coordinate operations and trade weapons and sex slaves.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said French authorities have detained three people this month with “clear attack plans,” but that police need better tools to monitor messaging apps the way they can tap phones. He said the three were among seven people detained with suspected links to extremist networks, without elaborating.

He and German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said they’re not pushing to ban encrypted services, but to work with companies that offer such apps or services to ensure they can’t be abused by violent extremists. They want EU leaders to discuss a Europe-wide policy controlling encryption at a summit in Bratislava, Slovakia, next month.

They don’t want to ban them, they just want to make it so they don’t function anymore.

But they didn’t elaborate on how exactly companies should limit encryption, and Cazeneuve acknowledged that his government doesn’t even have any interlocutors at some companies.

He specifically mentioned concerns about Telegram, an encrypted app used around the world. Islamic State extremists are among its many users — including a 19-year-old who attacked a Catholic church in Normandy last month and allegedly posted about his impending plans on the app.

Telegram says on its website that it blocks terrorist-related public channels, but doesn’t intervene in private chats among participants.

U.S. authorities have also pressed tech companies to work with the government against extremist activity online, with varying degrees of success.

Of course diversity makes it so you can’t have privacy.

It also makes it so you can’t have fireworks shows, music festivals or evening strolls.

In many cases, it makes it so you can’t go on living.

But this is all a small price to pay for not being called a racist by Jews.

Tim Cook might be a GRIDS-ridden sicko, but in this case, I support him.

It’s nice to see these oppressive and evil corportations forced by the public to come out and support freedom.

Engadget:

As Apple continues to fight back on the FBI’s request, calling it “unconstitutional” in court, support from the tech world is starting to pour in. Soon after Microsoft announced it’s decision to back Apple’s legal battle with an amicus brief, the Wall Street Journal reports that Facebook, Google and possibly Twitter are among companies working with Microsoft on a joint motion. An Amazon spokesman told Reuters the company is working on its “amicus options,” as it becomes clear Apple will have support from many of its competitors in this particular battle.

Our friend weev recently put out a video commenting on the Apple vs. the FBI situation, for those unclear about exactly what is at stake.

Weev on Apple vs. The FBI https://www.anglinarchive.com/2016/02/25/weev-on-apple-vs-the-fbi/ Thu, 25 Feb 2016 00:00:00 +0000 Andrew Anglin

One of the greatest security professionals on earth, and the world’s number one celebrity hacker – who also happens to be Daily Stormer’s IT guy – has put out video commentary on the Apple vs. the FBI situation.

Weev’s analysis of the situation lines up with mine and other intelligent folks: Apple isn’t doing this for principles, but that is irrelevant.

We should obviously side with Apple. Because this issue is a lot bigger than Apple.

Note that Apple got weev locked up for 3 years of his life, following the iPad hack, which turned out to not even be illegal.

What the FBI is asking for is not to unlock one phone, but for Apple to develop backdoor software which would allow them to hack all iPhones on the planet. This is an extreme privacy violation – a gigantic freedom-grab.

The FBI is saying “but these terrorists, goyim.”

The FBI, however, is a part of the same government that brought this haji filth into our country in the first place.

The solution to kebabs slaughtering people is not to take everyone’s freedoms. Even if you do take everyone’s freedoms, it isn’t going to matter, because these people are acting out without being given orders – they just follow an ideology.

Earlier today, the above video was posted on the Stormer Forums, and weev stopped in to comment:

and really, honestly, take a look at this fucking chart:

lOf9oqj

the vast majority of global terror deaths, that big dark blue section of that pie, is sunni islam. the second biggest section is commies. you want to end the vast majority of all terror deaths? instead of violating all our fourth amendment rights (which will accomplish absolutely nothing, as shooters like the san bernardino ones are ideologically motivated and not receiving orders from anyone or plotting electronically) i have a much better idea

physically remove all mudslimes, muds, and commies. no more terrorism.

also of note is how fucking few “white supremacist” terror deaths there are. notice how the media treats us when we are responsible for practically no political violence ever, while they don’t say anything about the marxists that commit hundreds of times of political murders.

Weev spoke for the both of us – the whole lot of us, presumably – when he said that this is the only serious thing he’s ever disagreed with Donald Trump about.

However, the bottom line is as important as this Apple case is, its importance pales in comparison to the importance of stopping brown immigration and mass deporting millions of non-Whites from America.

You can check out weev’s blog here. If you like what he does, send a couple shekels his way.
