No terrorism-related charges were laid against him, though.

That could have been construed as Islamophobic, something which Canada is strongly against.

Abdulahi Hasan Sharif has been found guilty of all charges laid against him in the 2017 Edmonton attacks that saw a police officer stabbed and four pedestrians run down by a U-Haul van.

Sharif, 32, was charged with 11 offences, including five of attempted murder, four counts of criminal flight from police causing bodily harm, one count of aggravated assault and one count of dangerous driving.

The charges were in connection with the ramming and stabbing of Edmonton police Const. Mike Chernyk and a subsequent U-Haul rampage through downtown Edmonton in September 2017.

Sharif sat in the prisoner’s box showing very little emotion as he learned his fate in an Edmonton courtroom Friday morning. The decision came after less than 24 hours of deliberation by the jury.

Over the course of the three-week trial, several witnesses testified, including Chernyk and the four injured pedestrians.

Chernyk was working special duty outside the Edmonton Eskimos game on Sept. 30 when he saw lights approaching him. He told court that’s when he was hit by a car and sent flying through the air. His next memory was of someone being on top of him and feeling a burning sensation on his head, something he quickly realized was the pain from being stabbed by his attacker.

Chernyk described his attempts to fight off his attacker, all while trying to survive for his kids. He told the court he is a single parent to two children.

The four injured pedestrians told the court about their memories of being hit and how they coped with broken bones, anxiety and depression.

During closing arguments on Wednesday, Bykewich said Sharif was trying to cause “as much chaos, destruction and indiscriminate death as possible.”

An Edmonton judge rejected a man’s claim Thursday that he was too insane to be held responsible for stabbing his ex-girlfriend more than 100 times and cutting out her organs, including pinning her heart to a wall with a knife.

Silva Koshwal admitted to the stabbing death and gruesome mutilation of Nadine Skow in August 2015, but his defence lawyer Peter Royal argued Koshwal should not be held criminally responsible for his actions because he was in a psychotic state.

Under the Criminal Code of Canada, a person can’t be held responsible for an act committed while suffering from a mental disorder that makes that person incapable of understanding the nature of the act or appreciating that the act is wrong.

Crown prosecutor Laurie Trahan, however, said the extreme violence Koshwal perpetrated against Skow during and after her death was likely rooted in jealous rage, since Skow had plans to move away without telling Koshwal where she was going.

Court heard conflicting opinions from mental health experts who assessed Koshwal.

Forensic psychologist Leslie Block testified that Koshwal was likely experiencing a psychotic episode in the form of a flashback based on trauma he witnessed as a child in South Sudan, and believed Koshwal should not be found criminally responsible for his actions.

Justice Sterling Sanderman ultimately rejected Block’s assessment, saying his belief that Koshwal was suffering psychosis due to childhood trauma in war-torn South Sudan was a “theoretical construct” not supported by evidence.

Civil war in Sudan has caused the death and displacement of millions of people over the span of decades, and has been characterized by horrific human rights violations and mass killings. Koshwal recalled seeing bodies and hearing screams in the night as a child born in what is now South Sudan in 1976.

Sanderman said the defence had not sufficiently proven that Koshwal was in a psychotic state when he killed Skow, and ultimately found him criminally responsible for his convictions of second-degree murder and causing indignity to Skow’s remains.

This means Koshwal will likely serve a lengthy prison sentence.

Good on the judge for basically accepting that this was just TNB and had nothing to do with “mental illness.”

I’m actually shocked that such sanity still exists in the Canadian legal system.

The suspect accused of stabbing a police officer before crashing a speeding U-Haul van into a crowd of people in Edmonton, Canada, had come to the country from Somalia trying to claim refugee status, police revealed.

Officers took the 30-year-old suspect into custody and he apparently acted alone, Edmonton Police Chief Rod Knecht said. Officers said pending charges included terrorism and five counts of attempted murder, but they did not reveal his name.

An Islamic State flag was found in the car that hit the officer, according to Knecht.

The suspect was known to both Edmonton police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Marlin Degrand, assistant commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, said the man was flagged in 2015 for extremist ideologies and police interviewed him at the time, but he said charges were not warranted after an “exhaustive investigation.” It was not clear when he first traveled to Canada.

The chaos began outside Commonwealth Stadium, where a Canadian Football League game was being played.

In video released by police, a white Chevrolet Malibu slammed into a police officer in front of his cruiser. The officer was sent flying after the Malibu struck the police car. The driver then got out and appeared to stab the officer.

The officer was stabbed multiple times before the suspect ran off, the Edmonton Journal reported.

The officer was not critically wounded, the Globe and Mail reported.

A few hours later, the U-Haul van was stopped at an impaired driving checkpoint. Knecht said the driver’s name was similar to the name of the registered owner of the car that hit the officer. He said the van then sped off toward downtown with police in pursuit.

Police say the U-Haul hit and injured four pedestrians before it rolled and the suspect was arrested.

“There were people flying and everything,” witness Kim Anderson told the Edmonton Journal. “I’m shocked — I just see people flying.”

An Edmonton man admitted Monday that he committed a carjacking and two quick bank robberies in a disguise so realistic that witnesses described him as an unmasked white man, even though he was black.

In January 2014, Solomon Zemichael Teklie carjacked a woman at Northgate Mall, robbed a bank at Londonderry Mall, robbed a second bank at 97th Street, then was pulled over and arrested by police.

The three robberies and arrest all took place within 37 minutes.

Through it all, the 39-year-old Teklie wore a disguise that fooled everyone.

“I don’t know where this mask was made, I don’t know where it came from, but it’s uncanny how much it looks like a real person,” said Crown prosecutor Carrie-Ann Downey. “It was so realistic that each witness on this file thought that Mr. Teklie was white. He is not white.”

7.50 pm – One neighbour described the alleged attacker as a ‘large black man’ known locally as “fat Nick”.

His mother is believed to also live in the street.

The neighbour, an eyewitness, gave a statement to police saying he beheaded his mother’s cat using a large machete.

The neighbour said:” I know him quite well. His mum lives on this road. I was in my house when I heard  shouting.

“I looked out and saw him screaming, ‘Where’s the cat, where’s the cat”.

“He then went into my back garden and started chopping at my roses in the back with the machete. He was going crazy because he couldn’t find it.

“Then he saw it in another garden further along and chopped its head off with the machete. There was blood everywhere. I went and called the police.”

7.30pm – Other eye-witnesses described what they saw.

Isik Saban, 48, said: “The woman who was attacked is in her late 40s, I’ve seen her around. I believe her husband runs a local cafe.

“I was in the house when a cop started banging on the door, he was shouting you’ve got to get out. I spoke to another who saw the entire thing.

“She had been working on a night shift so she was asleep when she was awoken by screaming and shouting.

“She went to her window and looked into her neighbours garden and saw a man attacking a woman with a large machete. There was blood everywhere.

“She also said he had cut off the heads of two cats in the road. He had been rampaging through gardens with a machete.”

7.44pm – The victim in today’s tragedy has been named as Palmira Silva.

The BBC is reporting that Ms Silva was an 82-year-old woman.

Police are still investigating the killing and have arrested a 25-year-old man after an alleged machete attack.

Once again, we must note that the Black itself cannot be blamed for this poor old woman’s brutal murder.  He was simply doing what comes natural to him.  The real guilt falls on the liberal Whites who support the continued presence of these vile monsters within our once safe, normal and comfortable nations.

Edmonton police have located the blue Dodge Ram truck they were searching for following a fatal hit and run near Rundle Park Friday morning.

The truck was found at the back of a residence in the area of 112 Ave. and 94 St., around 6:30 p.m. Friday.

“At this point it would appear that there is no cause or relationship between the address and the truck,” said Insp. Regan James with the Edmonton Police Service.

Officers say a member of the public spotted the vehicle and called police. The truck has since been towed away from the scene.

“It’s one of those situations where clearly the public really stepped up their game and came out and helped us and we’re very grateful for that,” added James.

Police say they are now in the process of interviewing people in the area, and the hunt for the male suspect continues.

The manhunt began Friday morning after a 33-year-old father was run over and killed by his own truck as he tried to stop it from being stolen.

Witnesses said the man was hanging onto the back of the blue Dodge truck when he fell off and was dragged under.

“I looked up and I seen a gentleman trying to get into his vehicle,” said Nicole Nault. “Somebody was inside the vehicle, obviously stealing it. They had hit the gas, pinned it, and the gentleman got stuck under the wheels.

“I heard somebody yelling,” said Scott Pfiefle, who lives in the area. “I heard tires peeling out. I looked out my window and seen the truck bounce over somebody and I ran out of my house.

“My first thought was the guy needs help,” he added. “So I ran out and seen him laying in a pool of his blood.”

Pfiefle said police then had them all back away.

“I just kind of stayed with the wife. She really needed to be calmed down. So, I just kind of helped her out.”

The Dodge truck was the second one stolen Friday morning, said Insp. Brian Nowlan.  Police first received reports of a stolen blue Ford half-ton truck around 8 a.m. It ended up in heavy traffic during the morning commute, so for safety reasons, police did not pursue it.

An hour later, an officer found the truck ditched a few blocks away from the scene of the hit and run at 2908-116 A Ave., in a housing complex called Parkridge Estates. A witness told police they saw a man and a woman peering into nearby condos.

Police spotted the couple and chased them down, catching the woman. The other suspect, a native man in his 30s, escaped. He jumped in to the victim’s Dodge, which was running.

“Just as the vehicle started to reverse he saw an individual come from a nearby yard and drape himself across the back of the box,” said Nowlan.  “As the vehicle continued to reverse, the individual that was on the back came off the vehicle and ended up underneath the vehicle and was run over.”

The suspect drove south through the nearby Rundle Park onto 102 Avenue.

While the stolen truck has been located, city police are still searching for the suspect, who is described as an Aboriginal male, in his 30s, approximately 6’0”to 6’2” with a medium build, medium length brown/black hair, and may be wearing jeans with a red and white horizontal striped shirt.

Witnesses at the housing complex said the victim had two young children, a boy and a girl, and used his truck for work.

“He’s a hard working man, just supporting his family,” said friend Jeff Jackson. “That was his work truck, so he was trying to stop it… That’s all he has.”

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is also investigating because the case involves a police pursuit.
