A transgender cyclist is currently leading the female category of the Transatlantic Way bike race by 300km. The annual race around Ireland via the Atlantic way is a 2,500km endurance cycling event which takes between 6 and 9 days to complete.

Cara Dixon, from Britain, is currently 300km in front of the second placed woman, Hillary Allen, with roughly half of the race left to go.

Dixon won the women’s class at the 200km Dirty Reiver gravel race in the UK last month, beating second place by over an hour. Dixon was 19th in the men’s class.

Dixon’s win in the UK last month prompted A UFC featherweight fighter, Lando Vannata to weigh in on the controversy by criticizing the decision to allow Dixon to compete in the women’s division.

In a tweet Vannata said:

In May of this year, women’s cyclist Hannah Arensman, 24, quit cyclocross after losing a podium place to a trans rider in a race which was also marred by protests from an ‘Antifa’ gun club group. Arensman gave up on her Olympic dream after ‘sickening’ losses to a biological male. She said the experience ‘hurt on a million different levels’ and has spoken about the importance of protected categories for females in sport. “The very people who should be protecting our sport are not doing so,’ she said.

You would think that after these years of losing to trannies, women finally would have started to realize how worthless they truly are.

Austin Killips has become the first transgender athlete to win a UCI women’s stage race at the Tour of the Gila in New Mexico.

The 27-year-old American won stage five on Sunday to clinch the overall title, plus the ‘Queen of the Mountains’ jersey for best climber.

She thanked fellow riders for their support after “a week of nonsense on the internet”, but her win has reignited the debate over transgender athletes competing in female events. American three-time Olympian Inga Thompson said the UCI – cycling’s global governing body – was “killing off women’s cycling”.

Killips – who started racing in 2019 and also competes in cyclocross – finished eight seconds ahead of Mexican rider Marcela Prieto on stage five, and topped the general classification by one minute and 29 seconds.

She said on Instagram: “After a week of nonsense on the internet I’m especially thankful to everyone in the peloton and sport who continue to affirm that Twitter is not real life.

“I love my peers and competitors and am grateful for every opportunity I get to learn and grow as a person and athlete on course together.”

On Tuesday, the UCI defended its rules, saying in a statement: “The UCI acknowledges that transgender athletes may wish to compete in accordance with their gender identity.

“The UCI rules are based on the latest scientific knowledge and have been applied in a consistent manner. The UCI continues to follow the evolution of scientific findings and may change its rules in the future as scientific knowledge evolves.”

The UCI requires transgender women to suppress their testosterone levels to 2.5 nmol/L for a 24-month period prior to competing in female events.

It toughened it rules on eligibility in 2022, with previous regulations set at 5 nmol/L for 12 months.

The UCI’s transgender policy had been under review after being brought into the spotlight by British rider Emily Bridges, one of cycling’s most high-profile transgender competitors.

Its current policy differs from those of other international governing bodies, such as World Athletics and World Aquatics (previously called Fina), which have banned transgender women from competing in the female category at international events.

The trans woman cyclist Emily Bridges has been blocked from participating in the women’s British National Omnium Championship on Saturday after cycling’s governing body, the UCI, ruled she was ineligible.

Bridges – who set a national junior men’s record over 25 miles in 2018 – had been due to compete against several British Olympians, including Dame Laura Kenny, in her first race in the women’s category. However the UCI ruled the 21-year-old, who began hormone therapy last year to reduce her testosterone levels, was currently not compliant with its regulations as she is still registered as a male cyclist – and therefore cannot compete as a woman until her male UCI ID expires.

The UCI’s decision came amid a growing backlash from within the sport, with the Guardian understanding that a number of female riders were talking about boycotting the event in Derby because they felt that Bridges, who was on the Great Britain Academy programme as a male rider until being dropped in 2020, had an unfair advantage.

Belgian cyclist Cédric Baekeland died of a heart attack during a training camp in Mallorca, Spain. Baekeland had been on the Mediterranean island since March 12 for the March 26 start of the season in Slypskapelle, Belgium.

The cyclist from the Belgian city of Roeselare, on March 14, suffered a heart attack. He only managed to alert his sleeping roommate before he collapsed. All efforts to resuscitate Baekeland were in vain.

“He had recently been examined, the test showed that he was perfectly healthy,” his team said.

The young cyclist only recently took up the sport after playing football for both KSV Roeselare and Club Roeselare. An injury cut short his budding soccer career and he turned to cycling. This season he would have been a full member of the elite cycling squad.

At the request of the family, the cycling team declined media interviews in Mallorca for the time being, Nieuwsblad reported. All the cyclists on the team had reportedly been vaccinated. Ronny Vanmarcke (73) the former coach of the National Youth Cycling and the oldest face of the jab campaign, had boasted about the high jab rate of older cyclists generally. In October last year, he urged the youth to get the shot too.

“The pros have already been able to ride competitions, but the youth is longing to be able to cycle again. At the first youth cycling races I will certainly be cheering at the finish. The news of Baekeland’s death comes in the wake of the sudden demise of another 28-year-old rider, Scotland’s Commonwealth Games cyclist John Paul. On March 9, Paul also passed away and the cause of his sudden death was not made public, leading to speculation that he had died as a result of the Covid-19 vaccine.

On March 21, during the Volta a Catalunya cycling race in Catalonia, Italian cyclist Sonny Colbrelli collapsed crossing the finishing line with initial reports suggesting that he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was however resuscitated and diagnosed with one of the known side-effects of the jab, namely “cardiac arrhythmia”.

Colbrelli’s team issued an official statement on March 22: “Our medical team can confirm that Sonny Colbrelli suffered from a cardiac arrest that required defibrillation. The cause is still to be determined, and the Italian rider will undergo further tests tomorrow at the Hospital Universitari de Girona.” The cause was not made public however.

Last year, no less than three young Belgian cyclists from Kempen developed heart problems after a race. Junior Joppe Erpels from Arendonk ended up in intensive care, Xander Verhagen from Geel had problems during training and newcomer Yarno Van Herck said he suddenly felt a stab in his chest during the race.

France, the epicentre of global cycling, voted a law last year requiring all participants in cycling events (athletes, support staff and most spectators) to be vaccinated for the Tour de France.
