It would be nice to just abolish these agencies, no?

The Guardian:

The Central Intelligence Agency offered buyouts to its entire workforce on Tuesday, citing an aim to bring the agency in line with Donald Trump’s priorities, the Wall Street Journal and CNN have reported.

The US spy agency is also freezing the hiring of job applicants already given a conditional offer, the WSJ reported, quoting an aide to CIA director John Ratcliffe.

The aide, not named in the report, said some of those frozen offers were likely to be rescinded if the applicants did not have the right background for the agency’s new goals, which include targeting drug cartels, Trump’s trade war and undermining China.

An unnamed CIA spokesperson told CNN the decision was part of Ratcliffe’s efforts to “ensure the CIA workforce is responsive to the administration’s national security priorities,” and that it is “part of a holistic strategy to infuse the agency with renewed energy”.

…

Ratcliffe, a former member of the House of Representatives who served as director of national intelligence during Trump’s first term, was confirmed by the US Senate as director of the CIA days after Trump took office for his second term.

His aide said Trump’s CIA will have a greater focus on the western hemisphere, targeting countries not traditionally considered adversaries of the US, according to the Journal.

That’s funny.

The CIA should be unleashed on Canada, for sure.

Former CIA Officer Gets 30 Years for Raping Dozens of Women https://www.anglinarchive.com/2024/09/20/former-cia-officer-gets-30-years-for-raping-dozens-of-women/ Fri, 20 Sep 2024 00:00:00 +0000

Brian Jeffrey Raymond

“When you’re CIA, they let you do it,” they said.

Turns out, that isn’t always true.

The Guardian:

A former CIA officer who drugged and sexually assaulted dozens of women was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Wednesday, the Department of Justice announced.

Brian Jeffrey Raymond, 48, of La Mesa, California, drugged more than two dozen women and performed nonconsensual sexual acts or made sexual contact with at least 10 women, the justice department said in a press release.

Raymond also photographed and recorded videos of victims without their consent while they were drugged or otherwise incapacitated.

Raymond had previously worked for the CIA for more than 20 years, the Washington Post reported.

…

An investigation of Raymond began in May 2020 when police in Mexico City responded to a naked woman screaming for help on the balcony of Raymond’s residence, according to court documents. The apartment had been leased by the US government for embassy employees.

The woman told police that she and Raymond had met online. She said that Raymond had raped her and accused him of drugging her when the two had drinks at his apartment.

Police then searched Raymond’s devices as apart of the investigation. They discovered several explicit videos and images showing Raymond sexually assaulting numerous women.

Come on.

This?

He must have pissed off someone in the Mossad.

CIA Denounces Bibi as Unhinged, Says He Thinks He Can Get Away With Anything https://www.anglinarchive.com/2024/06/08/cia-denounces-bibi-as-unhinged-says-he-thinks-he-can-get-away-with-anything/ Sat, 08 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000

The CIA is the one organization in America that has maintained some form of independence.

Obviously, I’m not a big fan of the CIA, but, quite hilariously, they are the ones actually attempting to inject some kind of sense into the Biden Administration and the State Department’s push for infinity wars with the whole world.

CNN:

A CIA assessment circulated among US officials this week concluded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu likely judges he can get away without defining a post-war plan — even as the Biden administration has launched a full-court press to pressure him to bring an end to the conflict in Gaza.

Netanyahu “probably believes he can maintain support from his security chiefs and prevent defections” from the right wing of his coalition by discussing the future of Gaza in “vague terms,” the June 3 report, reviewed by CNN, reads.

The assessment — which has not been previously reported — represents one of the most up to date intelligence assessments about Netanyahu’s mindset that has been circulated among senior US officials, according to a source familiar with internal reporting.

He thinks he’s invincible.

He believes he gets magic powers from his demon gods.

It comes amid a clear shift in how the Biden administration views Israel: less as a trusted partner and more as an unpredictable foreign government to be analyzed and understood.

The CIA declined to comment when asked about CNN’s reporting.

The assessment highlights how the Israeli leader is defying pressure from members of his own government and the Biden administration to define an “end state” for Gaza and warns what Netanyahu has said publicly is likely true: that he will only engage seriously on post-war issues after meeting “what he sees as key security benchmarks, which may take months.”

He is saying he is going to “destroy Hamas.” This is impossible – at least without killing literally everyone in Gaza – but this is what he keeps saying.

I’m not really sure he does think that, however. I think it is more likely he is going to start a war with Lebanon and then just hope people forget about the Gaza situation.

According to the assessment, those benchmarks include completing “major military operations” — something analysts have said is deliberately vague — as well as eliminating Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif.

…

The CIA assessment highlights that, within Israel, there is no consensus on the postwar plan for Gaza, indicating each cabinet minister’s ranging views on postwar governance, security and reconstruction.

Netanyahu, for example, is depicted alongside a blurb noting he “prefers a coalition of moderate Arab states to manage the territory with eventual participation” from other leaders.

Other Israeli leaders are depicted as having various views on future governance that are diametrically opposed to those attributed to Netanyahu.

Overall, the assessment illustrates how Israel’s coalition government remains deeply divided over several critical post-war issues – supporting the CIA’s broader conclusion that a lack of unity among Netanyahu’s political rivals could enable his continued defiance of any pressure to define a plan for Gaza once the conflict ends.

I don’t know if they are deeply divided.

I think they are just saying whatever. They are throwing out all different kinds of bullshit to dazzle the goyim and try to prevent them from making sense about what exactly is going on.

It was considered common knowledge in the Western media that Israel would have no problem defeating Hamas in a few months. This was even promoted by right-wing morons. I was the one sitting here saying “yeah, well – there are tunnels and there are a lot of tunnels and the IDF is not really a serious military and basically, Netanyahu’s objectives are totally impossible.”

Now, I was proved right again.

I will also be proved right when Israel attacks Lebanon as part of a strategy to get the US involved in a war with Iran.

At that point, no one is going to be paying any attention at all to Gaza. It won’t matter on the world stage.

This was always the plan of the Netanyahu government. They are not confused.

I don’t know if I believe the CIA doesn’t understand this or if they are lying about not understanding it, but I do know that I’m right and they’re wrong.

I do give them credit, however, for pushing back against the Biden/Trump narrative about “finishing the job.”

World’s Spy Chiefs Hold “Secret” Meeting in Singapore https://www.anglinarchive.com/2023/06/05/worlds-spy-chiefs-hold-secret-meeting-in-singapore/ Mon, 05 Jun 2023 00:00:00 +0000

They should really release the minutes.

Reuters:

Senior officials from about two dozen of the world’s major intelligence agencies held a secret meeting on the fringes of the Shangri-La Dialogue security meeting in Singapore this weekend, five people told Reuters.

Such meetings are organised by the Singapore government and have been discreetly held at a separate venue alongside the security summit for several years, they said. The meetings have not been previously reported.

The U.S. was represented by Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines, the head of her country’s intelligence community, while China was among the other countries present, despite the tensions between the two superpowers.

Avril Haines. Jewish, btw. Obviously, Biden wouldn’t have a spy chief who isn’t Jewish.

Samant Goel, the head of India’s overseas intelligence gathering agency, the Research and Analysis Wing, also attended, an Indian source said.

“The meeting is an important fixture on the international shadow agenda,” said one person with knowledge of the discussions. “Given the range of countries involved, it is not a festival of tradecraft, but rather a way of promoting a deeper understanding of intentions and bottom lines.

“There is an unspoken code among intelligence services that they can talk when more formal and open diplomacy is harder – it is a very important factor during times of tension, and the Singapore event helps promote that.”

All five sources who discussed the meetings declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter.

A spokesperson for the Singapore Ministry of Defence said that while attending the Shangri-La Dialogue, “participants including senior officials from intelligence agencies also take the opportunity to meet their counterparts.”

“The Singapore Ministry of Defence may facilitate some of these bilateral or multilateral meetings,” the spokesperson said. “Participants have found such meetings held on the sidelines of the (dialogue) beneficial.”

…

Although few details were available on the specific discussions in Singapore, Russia’s war in Ukraine and transnational crime figured in the talks on Friday, the person with knowledge of the discussions added. On Thursday evening, the intelligence chiefs held an informal gathering.

No Russian representative was present, one of the sources said. Ukraine’s deputy defence minister, Volodymr V. Havrylov, was at the Shangri-La Dialogue but said he did not attend the intelligence meeting.

Another of the sources said the tone at the meeting was collaborative and cooperative, and not confrontational.

That hohol reported that the Ukraine is actually winning in Bakhmut.

Some American media reported the statements uncritically.

(That Newsweek article also refers to Bakhmut as “symbolic,” lol.)

Helping the CIA is a Very Bad Idea, Reuters Investigation Reveals https://www.anglinarchive.com/2022/09/30/helping-the-cia-is-a-very-bad-idea-reuters-investigation-reveals/ Fri, 30 Sep 2022 00:00:00 +0000

We interviewed six Iranians who had worked with the CIA as spies and informants and got caught. A Reuters investigation found CIA negligence likely led to their capture. https://t.co/r7FdkkxSF4

Where do people get the idea that helping a foreign intelligence agency will benefit them personally? I can understand if you’ve been blackmailed, but otherwise, why would anyone get involved in something like this?

The CIA probably offers a lot of money – but do they actually pay out?

Reuters:

The spy was minutes from leaving Iran when he was nabbed.

Gholamreza Hosseini was at Imam Khomeini Airport in Tehran in late 2010, preparing for a flight to Bangkok. There, the Iranian industrial engineer would meet his Central Intelligence Agency handlers. But before he could pay his exit tax to leave the country, the airport ATM machine rejected his card as invalid. Moments later, a security officer asked to see Hosseini’s passport before escorting him away.

Hosseini said he was brought to an empty VIP lounge and told to sit on a couch that had been turned to face a wall. Left alone for a dizzying few moments and not seeing any security cameras, Hosseini thrust his hand into his trouser pocket, fishing out a memory card full of state secrets that could now get him hanged. He shoved the card into his mouth, chewed it to pieces and swallowed.

Not long after, Ministry of Intelligence agents entered the room and the interrogation began, punctuated by beatings, Hosseini recounted. His denials and the destruction of the data were worthless; they seemed to know everything already. But how?

“These are things I never told anyone in the world,” Hosseini told Reuters. As his mind raced, Hosseini even wondered whether the CIA itself had sold him out.

Gholamreza Hosseini

Rather than betrayal, Hosseini was the victim of CIA negligence, a year-long Reuters investigation into the agency’s handling of its informants found. A faulty CIA covert communications system made it easy for Iranian intelligence to identify and capture him. Jailed for nearly a decade and speaking out for the first time, Hosseini said he never heard from the agency again, even after he was released in 2019.

The CIA declined to comment on Hosseini’s account.

Hosseini’s experience of sloppy handling and abandonment was not unique. In interviews with six Iranian former CIA informants, Reuters found that the agency was careless in other ways amid its intense drive to gather intelligence in Iran, putting in peril those risking their lives to help the United States.

One informant said the CIA instructed him to make his information drops in Turkey at a location the agency knew was under surveillance by Iran. Another man, a former government worker who traveled to Abu Dhabi to seek a U.S. visa, claims a CIA officer there tried unsuccessfully to push him into spying for the United States, leading to his arrest when he returned to Iran.

Such aggressive steps by the CIA sometimes put average Iranians in danger with little prospect of gaining critical intelligence. When these men were caught, the agency provided no assistance to the informants or their families, even years later, the six Iranians said.

James Olson, former chief of CIA counterintelligence, said he was unaware of these specific cases. But he said any unnecessary compromise of sources by the agency would represent both a professional and ethical failure.

“If we’re careless, if we’re reckless and we’ve been penetrated, then shame on us,” Olson said. “If people paid the price of trusting us enough to share information and they paid a penalty, then we have failed morally.”

The men were jailed as part of an aggressive counterintelligence purge by Iran that began in 2009, a campaign partly enabled by a series of CIA blunders, according to news reports and three former U.S. national security officials. Tehran has claimed in state media reports that its mole hunt ultimately netted dozens of CIA informants.

To tell this story, Reuters conducted dozens of hours of interviews with the six Iranians who were convicted of espionage by their government between 2009 and 2015.

To vet their accounts, Reuters interviewed 10 former U.S. intelligence officials with knowledge of Iran operations; reviewed Iranian government records and news reports; and interviewed people who knew the spies.

None of the former or current U.S. officials who spoke with Reuters confirmed or disclosed the identities of any CIA sources.

The CIA declined to comment specifically on Reuters’ findings or on the intelligence agency’s operations in Iran. A spokeswoman said the CIA does its utmost to safeguard people who work with the agency.

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Mission to the United Nations in New York did not respond to requests for comment.

Hosseini was the only one of the six men Reuters interviewed who said he was assigned the vulnerable messaging tool. But an analysis by two independent cybersecurity specialists found that the now-defunct covert online communication system that Hosseini used – located by Reuters in an internet archive – may have exposed at least 20 other Iranian spies and potentially hundreds of other informants operating in other countries around the world.

This messaging platform, which operated until 2013, was hidden within rudimentary news and hobby websites where spies could go to connect with the CIA. Reuters confirmed its existence with four former U.S. officials.

These failures continue to haunt the agency years later. In a series of internal cables last year, CIA leadership warned that it had lost most of its network of spies in Iran and that sloppy tradecraft continues to endanger the agency’s mission worldwide, the New York Times reported.

…

The six Iranians served prison terms ranging from five to 10 years. Four of them, including Hosseini, stayed in Iran after their release and remain vulnerable to rearrest. Two fled the country and have become stateless refugees.

The six men acknowledged that their CIA handlers never made firm promises to help if they were caught. Still, all had believed that U.S. assistance would one day come.

This also speaks to a fall in the prestige of the American intelligence services, frankly.

There is a time when they definitely would not have wanted a report about how they’re very incompetent and just abandon their informants and leave them to die published in Reuters.

Probably, these people have totally lost sight of whatever their mission was supposed to be.

CIA Director Told Bolsonaro to Stop Talking About Potential Election Fraud https://www.anglinarchive.com/2022/05/09/cia-director-told-bolsonaro-to-stop-talking-about-potential-election-fraud/ Mon, 09 May 2022 00:00:00 +0000

If there’s one thing that the CIA really, really loves, it’s the democratic process in our rules-based order.

The Guardian:

The CIA director William Burns urged Jair Bolsonaro to stop questioning his country’s voting system, it has been claimed, amid growing fears the Brazilian president might refuse to accept defeat in this year’s election.

Polls suggest Bolsonaro, a far-right populist famed for his adulation of Donald Trump, will struggle to secure a second term when about 150 million Brazilians head to the polls in October to choose their next leader.

Bolsonaro’s leftist rival, the former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, is currently in pole position, and will formally announce his candidacy at a convention in São Paulo this weekend.

The possibility of a Lula victory appears to have spooked Bolsonaro, who has ratcheted up his anti-democratic rhetoric in recent weeks, reviving baseless doubts over the reliability of Brazil’s electronic voting system.

So I guess the thing now is that election fraud is literally impossible?

What about Belarus? Remember when they claimed that was fraud, without any evidence, despite the fact Lukashenko had won by like a huge margin?

I just don’t even understand what people are expected to think about this.

Such claims – part of a long-running Bolsonaro campaign to delegitimize the electoral process for political gain – have alarmed both Bolsonaro’s opponents and members of the international community.

On Thursday, Reuters claimed that last year the CIA chief had told top Bolsonaro officials their president should stop casting doubt on Brazil’s voting system during an “intimate” private encounter in the capital, Brasília.

So the CIA has some kind of right to dictate internal politics in Brazil?

Who knew?

When the meeting took place, in July last year, Bolsonaro hinted Burns’s visit was partly motivated by US concern over the political situation in neighbouring countries such as Venezuela, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. However, Reuters claimed Burns had voiced concern over the situation in Brazil, telling two of Bolsonaro’s closest allies that “the democratic process was sacred, and that Bolsonaro should not be talking in that way” about the election.

Sacred.

The democratic process.

It’s a holy religious ritual.

Thus sayeth CIA.

“Burns was making it clear that elections were not an issue that they should mess with,” one anonymous source told Reuters, insisting the comments had not constituted a lecture.

…

Some dismiss Bolsonaro’s attacks on Brazil’s voting system as meaningless bluster designed to fire-up his support base. During a recent visit to north-east Brazil, Bolsonaro elliptically told supporters they could be certain “the votes will be counted” and hinted they should buy themselves guns declaring: “An armed population will never be enslaved”.

But there are clear signs of concern within the Brazilian establishment that, like Trump in November 2020, Bolsonaro might refuse to concede defeat with unpredictable consequences.

Maybe Brazil should oppose being run by the CIA?

Maybe Bolsonaro should just cancel the election?

CIA threats are more than enough evidence that the CIA is planning on interfering in the election in order to depose Bolsonaro, and that is clearly enough of a reason to cancel the election.
