Two journalists who were present at the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol told CNN they have since suffered from trauma and PTSD over the incident – claims which sparked controversy on social media.

Journalist Hunter Walker, who worked as the White House correspondent for Yahoo! News when supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol in protest of his electoral defeat, told CNN host Brian Stelter on Sunday that he now suffers from flashbacks, which is a “hallmark of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.”

“There’s a bit of an informal network of reporters who’ve been through it that day, and are still coping with that, who are leaning on each other and talking to each other,” Walker revealed, claiming that they are “still dealing” with the trauma nearly a year later and feel a responsibility “to convey to others how serious it was.”

Walker said he was previously diagnosed with PTSD from “a really bad car accident” and that it is helpful to be able to identify the signs when he suffered similar trauma following the Capitol riots.

He also claimed that he was no longer able to look at the Capitol building and “not feel sad” because it brings back memories of when he called his wife during the incident “just to tell her I love her.”

Journalist Grace Segers, who previously wrote that she sometimes wants to “sob for hours” due to the trauma she experienced on January 6, also told Stelter that she still suffers from trauma.

“Every time that I go to the Capitol I think about that experience that I had on January 6, and not only that I had, but that my colleagues had, my fellow reporters, lawmakers, Capitol police, just staffers, and it can be difficult sometimes to come to terms with that,” she said.

Though the two reporters received sympathy and prayers on social media, they also received a wave of backlash for claiming to have PTSD over the incident.

Grabien media company founder Tom Elliott criticized CNN for covering January 6 “like it’s the Normandy invasion,” while journalist Alessandra Bocchi tweeted, “If you feel traumatized by reporting on ‘dangerous’ events, you shouldn’t be a reporter.”

Another person observed that it was odd “no one seemed to be traumatized” that an unarmed protester, Ashli Babbitt, was shot and killed by a Capitol Police officer during the unrest.

Well, a new video has been released, from a different entrance, that shows, without any question, that the Capitol Police literally just opened the doors and allowed people to march in single file.

You can see faces marching in this single-file line into the Capitol, with the blessing of the cops, are some of the same people that the FBI is now putting out bulletins about.

I’m looking at the schematics, and I’m not a pro at these things (somebody is going to make a detailed schematic analysis of it based on the videos), but people came in through at least three different entrance. But we now know that at least one entrance, there was not only no resistance, but people were INVITED IN.

Breitbart News has been denied a request for permanent press passes to cover Congress and its current temporary passes, which expire May 31, will not be extended, BuzzFeed News reports. Breitbart has spent the last month petitioning the standing committee of the U.S. Senate Daily Press Gallery for the passes, which serve as a symbol of legitimacy for reporters covering the Hill.

In late March, the committee denied Breitbart’s initial request for permanent passes, citing a need for “more answers” regarding Stephen Bannon’s role with the company. Bannon served as the organization’s former executive chair, and now works as the White House chief strategist. The committee expressed concerns about Bannon’s potentially ongoing involvement in Breitbart, which sparked CEO Larry Solov to send the committee a written masthead purporting to show that Bannon severed ties with the media organization in November. Police are investigating after a man was beaten unconscious by a group in the middle of E Pike early Saturday morning.

The attack was described by a witness on Reddit:

Last night right around 2am on Pike and Boylston I saw a group of 4 or 5 dudes chase another guy into the street, throw him on the ground, kick him in the head, then stomp on his head. One of the assailants was pulled off of the victim while trying to steal his wallet. After speaking to the women the victim was with, it turned out that the group of guys had been sexually harassing the women, and when their male friend stepped in they beat him and tried to mug him. The police came very quickly and the dude was hauled off in an ambulance after coming to, but as far as I could see the perpetrators were not found.

Police and Seattle Fire were called to the intersection of Pike and Boylston early Saturday just after 2 AM to a report that a group was fighting and one man was down in the street. Police arrived to find the victim unconscious but breathing. He was taken to the hospital and recovered enough over the weekend to talk to KIRO about the attack.

Police were looking for a group of 10 to 12 black males reported by witnesses to have attacked the man and stole his phone. There were no immediate arrests.

Meanwhile, only minutes later, a man was reportedly stabbed with a needle in a separate incident at E Pike and 11th. There are no further details available on that assault at this time.
