“I believe that this is dangerous and it will make us less safe. That’s why the safer option in this referendum is to Vote Leave and take back control,” she said.

Cameron accused Mordaunt of “flat out lying” and said it would be decades before Ankara could even contemplating joining the bloc.

“Britain and every other country in the EU has a veto on another country joining and that is a fact. The fact that the Leave campaign are getting things as straight forward as this wrong I think should call into question their whole judgment for making the bigger argument about leaving the EU,” he said, speaking on ITV’s “Peston on Sunday.”

“They’re basically saying vote to get out of Europe because of this issue of Turkey that we can’t stop joining the EU – that is not true,” Cameron said.

Cameron is backing the Remain campaign ahead of the EU referendum, which is set for June 23.

Russia’s president suspended all flights to Egypt on Friday pending the outcome of probes into last week’s deadly crash as Moscow investigates whether a bomb was to blame.

The decision came at the suggestion of Russian intelligence chief Alexander Bortnikov, who said that Russia should ground all flights “until we know the true causes of the incident” that killed all 224 people aboard.

The move by President Vladi­mir Putin marks another huge blow to Egypt’s vital tourism industry and follows increasing assertions by the United States and Britain that a bomb could have tore apart the plane in mid-flight over the Sinai desert.

At a meeting of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee, Russian officials also said they had collected samples of the airplane body, luggage, and soil in the Sinai Peninsula, where the airplane fell last week, in order to examine them for residue of explosives.

The statements are the strongest sign yet that Russia is considering terrorism as a primary possible explanation of what happened in Russia’s deadliest aviation incident ever. Russian officials had earlier rejected statements by President Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron that a bomb may have caused the accident, and urged foreign officials to abstain from “speculation.”

It would in fact be the biggest terrorist attack since 9/11.

Despite repeated assurances from British officials that the airlift would go ahead as planned, the low-cost carrier EasyJet announced Friday that “rescue plans that were put in place yesterday have been suspended by the Egyptian authorities.”

Russia and Egypt insist it’s too early to learn what caused the Metrojet plane to break apart.

EasyJet later said two flights managed to leave Sharm el-Sheikh, but that eight had been suspended. Other airlines, including British Airways, Thomson and Monarch, said their flights were proceeding as normal.

In a radio interview with ­Seattle-based KIRO Radio, Obama said, “I think there is a possibility that there was a bomb on board and we’re taking that very seriously.”

“We’re going to spend a lot of time just making sure our own investigators and own intelligence community find out what’s going on before we make any definitive pronouncements. But it’s certainly possible that there was a bomb on board,” he said.

U.S. intelligence officials and key legislators echoed the president’s remarks but cautioned that while a bomb may have brought down the Russian plane, that cause has not been confirmed.

“There are certainly indications that it may have been an explosion, may have been a terrorist bomb on the aircraft, but it remains a possibility that it was a structural failure in the aircraft,” said Rep. Adam B. Schiff (Calif.), the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, speaking on MSNBC on Thursday. “And the intelligence community is not really at a point where it can confirm either hypothesis.”

Schiff also described as “very forward-leaning” remarks by British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond that a bomb is a “significant possibility.”

“I can only tell you our perspective here in the United States, which is we aren’t ready to confirm anything,” Schiff said.

Russia and Egypt have called for patience while an official investigation that also includes Germany, France and Ireland reviews the crash over the next several months.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and UK Prime Minister David Cameron discussed in a phone call on Thursday the investigation of a recent Russian plane crash in Egypt as well as joint efforts in fight against terrorism, the Kremlin press service said.

“The leaders exchanged views on the situation with regard to the crash of a Russian plane on the Sinai Peninsula. Putin stressed that it was vital to rely solely on information provided by official investigation while commenting on possible causes of the incident,” the press service said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia hopes the United Kingdom will provide data to back recent statements that the Russian airliner crash in Egypt was likely caused by a terrorist attack.

“The sides also discussed issues of joint fight against global terrorism,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, media is claiming that if it is proved to be a bomb, it will damage Putin’s global reputation for security. Not sure how Egyptian airport security will damage Putin’s reputation, unless the media forces that meme.

David Cameron’s decision to intervene in the mystery of the Sinai air crash by speculating that a bomb may have bought down Flight 7K9268 will have been greeted with cold fury in the Kremlin.

For the last five days, leaders in Moscow and Cairo have been adamant that the jet’s downing last weekend was an accident – possibly the result of a catastrophic engine failure – but it is safe to assume that Downing Street did not speculate about “explosive devices” lightly.

Both the debris pattern observed in the Sinai Peninsular, as well as reports that some of the bodies were charred in such a way that suggested to an explosion had already cast doubt on the Kremlin’s version of events.

If a terror attack is indeed confirmed, the finger of blame will inevitably point to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil) which has vowed to seek revenge against Mr Putin for his decision to enter Syria’s civil war last month on the side of Bashar al-Assad.

For Mr Putin, whose domestic support rests on the twin pillars of economic and national security, a successful strike by Isil against an airliner full of middle class Russians on their way back from an Egyptian holiday will represent a significant blow to his prestige.

Already Mr Putin’s reputation for delivering economic well-being has been badly dented by international sanctions and the slump in world oil prices that has seen wages fall by over 10 per cent in the past year.

The decision to intervene in Syria was ostensibly designed to take Russian minds off such domestic problems and the developing stalemate in Crimea, but that move – initially viewed as decisive when contrasted with Western dithering in Syria – always carried risks.

At this point, it isn’t clear whether the UK announcement was made on the basis of American intelligence or their own investigation, but it is safe to assume they would have gotten notice from the US a few hours before the intelligence was publicly released, and may have acted on that.

Evidence now suggests that a bomb planted by the Islamic State militant group is the likely cause of last weekend’s crash of a Russian airliner over Egypt’s Sinai peninsula, U.S. and European security sources said on Wednesday.

Islamic State, which controls swathes of Iraq and Syria and is battling the Egyptian army in the Sinai Peninsula, said again on Wednesday it brought down the airplane, adding it would eventually tell the world how it carried out the attack.

Britain on Wednesday cited the likely possibility of an explosive device as the cause of the crash, but made no mention of any group that may have been responsible.

ISIS in Sinai is one of the most active of all the ISIS affiliates and has bomb-making capabilities, according to U.S. intelligence. But if the group did plant a bomb on the plane, it would represent an increase in sophistication.

The officials say ISIS has not proved to be nearly as advanced with bomb-making capabilities as al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, a group that U.S. national security officials believed were working on nonmetallic bombs to be smuggled onto planes.

“This would be the most significant terrorist attack since 9/11, there’s no doubt about that, with the Russian involvement in Syria,” CNN terrorism analyst Paul Cruickshank said. “If ISIS really was responsible for this, this will turbocharge their popularity in the global jihadi movement.”

Royal Navy sailors rescued another 900 desperate migrants making the perilous journey across the Mediterranean – and dropped them off in Italy.

A total of 914 migrants were picked up from overcrowded boats by Royal Marines and sailors as smuggling gangs took advantage of calm seas over the weekend.

Two of Britain’s Merlin helicopters identified three ‘vessels in distress’ early on Saturday.

315 of those fleeing Libya were picked up by Bulwark directly and the remainder were transferred from other foreign vessels for the large ship to take to Italy.

They were then dropped off in Taranto, Italy, on Monday. Many of them will now continue their journey to Northern Europe.

Some of them will likely end up in Calais, where they will then attempt to jump on the back of lorries and make their way to England.

Britain has now rescued 3823 migrants in total since it’s deployment at the beginning of May.

The rescue comes as it was announced that HMS Bulwark will be replaced next month by the survey vessel HMS Enterprise.

A handover will take place during the next few days, before the ship begins its journey back to England for maintenance.

The ship is only half the size of the 19,000-ton Bulwark and can only rescue 120 migrants at any one time. Bulwark could rescue as many as 1,000 migrants in one operation.
