Women exposed to toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” prior to pregnancy face an elevated risk of being unable to breastfeed early, new research finds.

The study tracked lactation durations for over 800 new moms in New Hampshire and found higher PFAS exposure could cause lactation to slow or stop altogether within six months.

The findings are “cause for concern” said Megan Romano, an epidemiologist at Dartmouth University and the lead author.

“For all women who are exposed, there’s a little bit of a decrease in the amount of time they breastfeed beyond delivery,” Romano said.

The new study found higher exposure led to a 28% higher risk of stopping exclusive breastfeeding before six months and some stopped breastfeeding altogether.

Only about one-third of US moms breastfeed beyond 12 months, though the World Health Organization and major pediatric groups recommend up to two years and beyond. The study may help explain why many US women stop breastfeeding early, though socioeconomic issues and other factors could play a role, Romano said.

An NHS trust has sparked fury after a leaked letter revealed drug-induced milk from transgender women who were born male is just as good for babies as a women’s breast milk.

The Medical Director of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust described both as “human milk”, adding that they are the “ideal food for infants”.

The letter comes in response to a campaign group’s complaint about the Trust’s gender policies.

Campaigners have protested against the practice of “induced lactation” – medication which enables trans women to simulate breastfeeding.

In the letter, the Medical Director claims “there is clear and overwhelming evidence that human milk is the ideal food for infants”, in reference to both breast milk and the “induced lactation” of biological men.

The NHS trust adds that the term “human milk” is “meant to be neutral and is not gender-biased”.

The letter has received backlash as Labour MP Rosie Duffield warns of the “ethics of untested chemicals in children”.

“Babies can’t be used as guinea pigs for someone else’s lifestyle choice,” she told the Daily Mail.

Taking antidepressants such as Prozac during pregnancy can affect the child’s brain development and potentially lead to them having mental health disorders later in life, a new study warns.

The research, published Friday in the journal Nature Communications, is said to be the first study to provide evidence of the direct impact of serotonin, a feel-good hormone, on the fetal development of the prefrontal cortex, a key part of the brain.

Scientists at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus focused their research on the antidepressant fluoxetine — sold under the brand names Prozac and Sarafem, among others — which works by raising serotonin levels.

“While it is known that serotonin plays a role in the brain development, the mechanisms responsible for this influence, specifically in the prefrontal cortex, have been unclear,” lead study author Won Chan Oh, an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacology at CU Anschutz, explained in a statement.

A young mother who had her breasts amputated in the name of “gender-affirming care” has spoken out about the regret that she feels about undergoing medical transition when she was a depressed and vulnerable teenager.

In an interview with The Epoch Times, Daisy Strongin, a newlywed and mother of a two-month-old infant, describes being an “insecure, very self-involved outcasted 15-year-old girl” who found the idea of transition “enticing.”

“I really wanted to feel comfortable in my own skin and I wanted to stop being depressed. I wanted to be someone else. I hated myself. I didn’t want to be the person that I was, and transitioning seemed to be this very alluring path that was beckoning to me,” she said.

After flattening her breasts with a chest compression device called a breast binder for years, Strongin started on testosterone at 18 and changed her name to Oliver. However, like so many young people seduced into transitioning by the transgender movement, she started to feel worse, “less satisfied” and “less whole,” leading her to detransition.

This is a common theme in the stories of the ever-growing community of detransitioners, many of whom recall thinking that transitioning was the answer to all their problems, only to discover too late that it wasn’t. Many were allowed by gender-affirming clinicians to consent to permanently altering their bodies with cross-sex hormones and surgeries before their brains had even reached full maturity.

Strongin told The Epoch Times that she believes the dramatic surge in children identifying as transgender is a social contagion and feels compelled to speak out about her regret as a warning to others regarding the danger of transgender ideology.

Strongin describes being a tomboy as a child, being bullied and lacking social skills. Then, like so many others, she began to spend a lot of time online, immersing herself in the world of gender identities.

“Then I started thinking maybe I was a trans guy,” she said.

“It’s done. There’s nothing I can do. The only thing I can do is just try to make peace with it,” she said.

Reports in the Nine papers revealed the Australian Breastfeeding Association has investigated several volunteers for allegedly using words such as ‘mother’ and ‘women’ excessively.

The association’s former breastfeeding counsellor Jasmine Sussex was accused of hate speech for saying only women breastfeed.

Ms Sussex said “it’s been pretty heartbreaking to watch the Breastfeeding Association really torture itself to try and appease this tiny minority of counsellors”.

“We can only hope that the Breastfeeding Association will focus back on what’s important, which is mothers who are calling the helpline today,” she told Sky News host Rita Panahi.

Terms such as “mother,” “breast,” “breast milk,” and “breastfeeding” are no longer acceptable.

Last week, the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine announced that it is replacing these terms with “lactation-related language” to achieve “desexed or gender-inclusive language.”

Though it contains “breastfeeding” in its name, the ABM will now use “mammary gland” to refer to “breast” and “human milk feeding” instead of “breastfeeding.”

Laura Kair, medical director of newborn care at University of California Davis Children’s Hospital, was the only professor to serve on the taskforce that produced the statement.

Kair and the rest of the ABM taskforce included three suggestions to make future medical research more gender inclusive. These suggestions include “broader gender categories,” to “not assume that lactation follows a birth”, and “include information on history of hormone therapy and surgeries for transgender participants.”

Per the UC Davis website, Kair stated, “Language has power. The language that we use should be as inclusive as possible when discussing infant feeding.”

Before, they had implied that “chestfeeding” was a joke, then admitted that it wasn’t a joke, but that no one was going to enforce it, and it was just meant to be polite.

This is always how they get you: they make things acceptable by making you feel guilt, telling you that you’re just being mean if you don’t accept someone different, and claim they’re not imposing on you.

All of the sudden, they start imposing on you, but by then it is too late.

A new study that checked American women’s breast milk for PFAS contamination detected the toxic chemical in all 50 samples tested, and at levels nearly 2,000 times higher than the level some public health advocates advise is safe for drinking water.

The findings “are cause for concern” and highlight a potential threat to newborns’ health, the study’s authors say.

“The study shows that PFAS contamination of breast milk is likely universal in the US, and that these harmful chemicals are contaminating what should be nature’s perfect food,” said Erika Schreder, a co-author and science director with Toxic Free Future, a Seattle-based non-profit that pushes industry to find alternatives to the chemicals.

PFAS, or per and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a class of about 9,000 compounds that are used to make products like food packaging, clothing and carpeting water and stain resistant. They are called “forever chemicals” because they do not naturally break down and have been found to accumulate in humans.

They are linked to cancer, birth defects, liver disease, thyroid disease, plummeting sperm counts and a range of other serious health problems.

The peer-reviewed study, published on Thursday in the Environmental Science and Technology journal, found PFAS at levels in milk ranging from 50 parts per trillion (ppt) to more than 1,850ppt.

There are no standards for PFAS in breast milk, but the public health advocacy organization Environmental Working Group puts its advisory target for drinking water at 1ppt, and the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, within the Department of Health and Human Services, recommends as little as 14ppt in children’s drinking water.

Though researchers are concerned by the findings, newborns are difficult to study so there has not been a thorough analysis of how PFAS affect them, said Sheela Sathyanarayana, a co-author of the study and pediatrician with the University of Washington.

But she added that studies of older children and adults have linked the chemicals to hormonal disruptions and suggests PFAS harm the immune system, which could be especially problematic for infants because breast milk bolsters their immune system.

Though the study checked a relatively small sample size, the contamination cut across socioeconomic and geographic groupings, which is “what makes the issue so difficult on an individual level”, Sathyanarayana said.

“What it speaks to is that the chemicals are so ubiquitous that we can’t really predict who will have the highest exposures,” she added.

Since these chemicals are virtually everywhere, everything women do is having an impact. Every McDonald’s, every Snickers bar, every shampoo and hair product, the makeup — everything.

It doesn’t matter if they did it 20 years ago when they were kids. These poisons permanently transform them.

If we don’t figure out a way to remove or neuter these chemicals, we’re going to encounter more and more transgenders and androgynous people everywhere.

You cannot trust companies with your health.

Chemical giants DuPont and Daikin knew the dangers of a PFAS compound widely used in food packaging since 2010, but hid them from the public and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), company studies obtained by the Guardian reveal.

The chemicals, called 6:2 FTOH, are now linked to a range of serious health issues, and Americans are still being exposed to them in greaseproof pizza boxes, carryout containers, fast-food wrappers, and paperboard packaging.

The companies initially told the FDA that the compounds were safer and less likely to accumulate in humans than older types of PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals” and submitted internal studies to support that claim.

But Daikin withheld a 2009 study that indicated toxicity to lab rats’ livers and kidneys, while DuPont in 2012 did not alert the FDA or public to new internal data that indicated that the chemical stays in animals’ bodies for much longer than initially thought.

Science from industry, the FDA and independent researchers now links 6:2 FTOH to kidney disease, liver damage, cancer, neurological damage, developmental problems and autoimmune disorders, while researchers also found higher mortality rates among young animals and mothers exposed to the chemicals.

Had the FDA seen the data, it is unlikely that it would have approved 6:2 FTOH, said Maricel Maffini, an independent researcher who studies PFAS in food packaging. And though Daikin may have broken the law, it and DuPont, which has previously been caught hiding studies that suggest toxicity in PFAS, are not facing any repercussions.

The 6:2 FTOH compound is part of a newer generation of “short chain” PFAS that were designed to replace older and supposedly more harmful “long chain” PFAS. The industry claims that short chain compounds are uniformly safe and “practically non-toxic”. However, independent researchers like Erika Schreder, science director for Toxic Free Future, have found that PFAS, regardless of chain length, accumulate in the environment and humans, and are toxic.

There are no safe PFAS.

It’s just a plant, man. Plant-based. Babies should develop their brains under the effects of this substance to be happier and more relaxed. Don’t you want kids to be happier?

Study Finds:

Just as smoking and drinking during pregnancy can have a negative impact on a child’s development, a new study finds marijuana use even after the delivery can be detrimental to a newborn. Researchers at Children’s Hospital Colorado say tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of marijuana, remains in a woman’s breast milk for at least six weeks. The revelation is creating a widespread push by health organizations to get mothers to abstain from using pot, even as more states legalize its use.

“With the increasing utilization of marijuana in society as a whole, we are seeing more mothers who use marijuana during pregnancy,” says primary investigator and neonatologist Erica Wymore, in a media release.

“However, given the lack of scientific data regarding how long THC persists in breast milk, it was challenging to provide mothers with a definitive answer regarding the safety of using marijuana while breastfeeding and simply ‘pumping and dumping’ until THC was no longer detectable in their milk. With this study, we aimed to better understand this question by determining the amount and duration of THC excretion in breast milk among women with known prenatal marijuana use.”

In the new report, researchers studied a group of women delivering their babies at Children’s Colorado and UCHealth’s University of Colorado Hospital between November 2016 and June 2019. The women also had to meet specific criteria including having a history of marijuana use and testing positive for THC when entering the hospital.

The women had to be over 18 and have an intention to breastfeed. They also had to agree to abstain from marijuana for six weeks after delivery and continually give milk, blood, and urine samples during the experiment.

Of the nearly 400 women screened by researchers, just 25 enrolled in the study. Out of these expecting mothers, only seven successfully abstained from marijuana for the full six weeks. For the 18 who couldn’t go without cannabis, the reasons they gave included stress, sleep issues, and a need to manage pain.

Despite only seven making it to the end, the results reveal all of these women had detectable concentrations of THC in their milk six weeks after delivery. Although the amounts varied depending on level of use, body mass index, and their metabolism, researchers say THC was still present even after the study ended.

“This study provided invaluable insight into the length of time it takes a woman to metabolize the THC in her body after birth, but it also helped us understand why mothers use marijuana in the first place,” says Maya Bunik, MD, MPH, medical director of the Child Health Clinic and the Breastfeeding Management Clinic at Children’s Colorado.

“To limit the unknown THC effects on fetal brain development and promote safe breastfeeding, it is critical to emphasize marijuana abstention both early in pregnancy and postpartum. To help encourage successful abstention, we need to look at – and improve – the system of supports we offer new moms.”
