A serial rapist jailed for life after a sick knifepoint attack is ­making a bid to be free.

Edward Bartley is due before the Parole Board tomorrow.

The 59-year-old carried out the assault after being released from a 20-year term for a campaign of terror against women.

Bartley was dubbed the Battersea Beast as he spent years prowling the streets of the South West London area hunting for victims to attack.

There are fears he may return to the capital, where some of the women still live. A source close to the case said: “Bartley is pure evil. How can it be safe to let him out to offend over and again?”

Bartley was jailed in 1992 for the rapes.

He was freed in 2004 but later attacked a 19-year-old in South London.

He was given life with at least 12 years in 2008, making him now eligible for parole.

Suffolk Police:

Officers investigating an allegation of rape in Ipswich have carried-out checks in the town 24 hours after the attack occurred, speaking to over 200 people.

The incident took place at around 3am yesterday morning, Saturday 20 July, and was reported to police shortly before 4.30am.

The victim – an 18-year-old woman – was walking along Silent Street when she was grabbed from behind and dragged into a car park where she was raped by an unknown male.

The male suspect is described as black with curly hair.

Specialist trained officers are continuing to support the victim, as work to identify the offender continues. This includes house-to-house, forensic and CCTV enquiries.

Between 2am and 4am this morning, Sunday 21 July, officers conducted checks in Silent Street, where they spoke to 238 people and distributed leaflets with information about the attack.

Imagine returning to a country in which you’re wanted for such a thing.

And it’s not like he tried to break in undetected, either – he literally entered via Heathrow Airport, passport in hand.

Perhaps he thought crime databases had limited memories or something.

A rapist who fled the country to avoid a trial 12 years ago has now been jailed for 15 years.

Onimisi Seidu, from Chatham, raped a child on four occasions between 2002 and 2006.

But the 47-year-old failed to attend a trial at Maidstone Crown Court in 2007 and instead fled the country.

In March, he tried to re enter the UK on a flight into Heathrow Airport – but was arrested by police.

He was remanded in custody following his arrest and admitted all four offences during an appearance at Maidstone Crown Court on April 1.

And today he was sentenced to 15 years behind bars at the same court.

In addition to his custodial sentence, Seidu will be on a one year extended licence upon his release and the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

We all know that you can’t spell “rape” without “ape.”

A man who stormed into a woman’s flat and raped her has today been found guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court.

Israel Olabode, 25, of St John’s Mews, Victoria Grove, Southsea, barged into the victim’s flat on October 5 last year after she had previously rejected his advances.

Armed with a kitchen knife he attacked and raped her. He then left the flat, leaving the victim with substantial injuries to her hand and cuts and bruises to her face.

A jury found him guilty of two counts of rape, unlawful wounding, assault by beating and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Olabode will be sentenced on Friday, April 26.

Following the court hearing DI Johnstone said: ‘This was a particularly violent and disturbing rape.

‘Understandably this was a very traumatic ordeal for the victim; I would like to commend her on her bravery and courage, which has helped secure today’s guilty verdict. I hope this will help her to start to move forward with her life.’

Police arrested a South Carolina man on Tuesday who allegedly raped a dozen women and spent more than two decades on the loose.

Investigators said DNA evidence led to the arrest of 52-year-old Gregory Frye, who allegedly raped 12 women throughout Spartanburg County, South Carolina, which is about 90 miles north of Columbia.

The attacks occurred between 1995 and 2003 and investigators said the suspect targeted one of the women twice, according to the Spartanburg Police Department. The victims, described as white women between the ages of 14 and 51, were attacked in various apartment complexes in Spartanburg County, according to police.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said Frye had been living and working in the area over the years and “going about his business like nothing happened.” He said there could be more victims.

“I can’t imagine how some of the victims must have felt knowing that it took this long,” Wright said at a press conference Tuesday. “Prayers have been answered, I just want you to know that. There’s been a lot of people praying that we’d catch a break and we did. And not only did we catch a break, we ran with it.”

Officers said they zeroed in on the suspect last week while reviewing several cold cases.

The sheriff’s office and the Spartanburg City Police Department said investigators tried to approach the cases from a different perspective, focusing on new technologies and forensic evidence.

A paedophile who raped and sexually assaulted a young girl in Cambridge has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The victim disclosed to police and social services that she had been raped and sexually assaulted by Kedienhon for two years, with the abuse starting when she was just seven years old.

Police and social care workers first became aware of the disclosures in October 2015, via an anonymous call made to social services.

Greg Kedienhon, 27, of no fixed address, was arrested in early 2017 but denied all the offences.

He stood trial at Peterborough Crown Court from 11 December, where he was found guilty of rape and two charges of sexual assault.

Kedienhon has been jailed for a total of 15 years.

He was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for a period of 15 years and put on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

In May a 30-year-old woman was approached and tackled by a man with sexual intent. Fortunately she was saved by a passing cyclist.

On 12 June, another sex attack took place on a 31-year-old woman. Someone raped the woman or tried it, as no further details were given.

The latest sexual assault was on 1 July this year, with a man attacking a 20-year-old in a house entry way on her way home.

Michigan police found nearly 500 videotapes in the home of a rape suspect and now have to modernize them in order to see if he is responsible for assaults going back decades, officials said.

Authorities found the tapes when they arrested Gilbert Conway in July on charges he raped six women between 2009 and 2018, authorities said. He’s pleaded not guilty to 77 criminal counts, which include first-degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping.

Lawmakers in Genesee County, Michigan, on Monday signed off on spending $15,000 to $20,000 to help investigators convert Conway’s Hi8 videotapes into a modern digital format.

Genesee County prosecutor David Leyton said police could find “a whole lot more victims” of the 60-year-old Flint resident.

“We believe he videotapes the sex assaults while he commits them. Once we view them, we are going to try and identify additional victims,” Leyton told WEYI-TV.
