A judge has set bonds for the mentally ill man accused of randomly attacking an elderly Columbus couple in late September – punching the 89-year-old wife unconscious and fatally stabbing her 90-year-old husband before fighting a 69-year-old neighbor outside their Victoria Drive home.

Darius Jamar Travick, 27, is charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault in the Sept. 24 death of John Dawson, the attack on Dawson’s wife, and the assault on the neighbor.

Police at Travick’s preliminary hearing Sept. 28 said Dawson’s wife told them her husband had come inside after doing yard work that morning and sat down to have a cup of coffee, while she folded sheets in a laundry room off their carport.

When she came back inside, she found a big man with a “crazy look” on his face standing in her kitchen, she told detectives.

He hit her, and she fell. When she came to, she went through the house looking for her husband, and couldn’t find him, police said.

When officers arresting Travick outside the house heard he had come from the Dawson’s home, one walked over to investigate.

At a side door, he saw a bloody, broken paring knife. Calling out to anyone inside, he went in and found Dawson dead on the living room floor, stab wounds to his torso and left ear. Hearing a woman call from the rear of the house, the officer discovered Dawson’s wife in a bedroom, apparently in shock: She had a concussion, a black eye and swelling where Travick hit her, police said.

The couple had been married 72 years.

A Junction City man was arrested on a murder charge related to a shooting that occurred on Christmas morning.

At about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, officers were sent to 948 Grant Ave. No. 154 in reference to a deceased female, according to Junction City Police Capt. Trish Giordano. Officers located the body of Jenna Schafer, 31, of Junction City, who officers believe died from a gunshot wound, Giordano said.

Detectives and officers worked throughout the day to identify a suspect. At about 6:25 p.m., Dion Green, 33, of Junction City, was arrested on a first degree murder charge in connection with the incident, Giordano said.

This is a continuing investigation, and officers do not plan to issue any further information at this time.

A man charged in a crossbow killing had planned the ambush, luring his victim outside by posing as somebody else, prosecutors said Friday.

Nyoky Bull, 20, of Grant, was arraigned Friday on an open murder charge in Wednesday’s killing of 20-year-old Marcus Olmstead in Norton Shores.

Olmstead’s mom, Kristi Ferry, sat in the front row of the courtroom, but was relieved the suspect was being arraigned through a video feed.

“He’s twisted. That’s all I can say,” Ferry said after the hearing. “He’s a monster. Who else could do this to a sweet, innocent boy?”

Police weren’t sure of a motive, but they were looking at the possibility of jealousy. They say it wasn’t a random, impetuous act.

“There was some premeditation and deliberation that went into the planning,” Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Chief Trial Attorney Matt Roberts said after the hearing.

The suspect has no criminal record, according to Michigan State Police.

Roberts said the victim had been communicating through social media with the suspect’s 18-year-old girlfriend earlier Wednesday.

Two people are dead and a man is in custody following a early Thursday morning shooting in Tyler.

Shortly after 2 a.m., Tyler Police officers were called to the 2300 block of Ridgewood Drive in reference to an aggravated assault.

When they arrived, two people were found dead by gunshot wounds.

The victims have been identified as Krista Newman, 25, of Frankston, and Caleb McGrady, 26, of Tyler.

Tyler Police have now identified Harvey Louis Martin, 52, as the shooter in this incident.

Martin has been charged with capital murder and his bond is set at $1 million.

The Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for two suspects in connection with the double homicide of a Lacassine couple.

Seventy-two-year-old Walter Gotreaux and his 70-year-old wife, Darlene, were found dead inside their home on Highway 90, west of Lacassine, last Sunday night.

Deputies say the couple died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Twenty-three-year-old Javari Guidry and 21-year-old Jordan Alexander Legros are wanted for first-degree murder and aggravated burglary.

Deputies say the two suspects live in Jeff Davis Parish but are not from the area originally. Two locations of residences include Houston and Welsh. They may be in those locations, but deputies say that their whereabouts are currently unknown.

The suspects were not believed to be directly associated with the victims, but they have acquaintances in common with the victims.

A silver car is connected with this investigation. No make or model was given by authorities.

The motive was robbery, a sheriff’s office spokesperson says. They are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who may know the suspects is asked to call their local law enforcement agency.

Both suspects have prior arrests from different agencies.

Easley police are searching for suspects after a female store clerk was shot to death at a convenience store Friday night.

Stacey Regina Branham, 49, of Weeping Willow Road, was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound, Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley said.

Easley Police Chief Tim Tollison said she was found dead around 8 p.m. at B Pam’s Food Mart, a convenience store at 201 NE Main St. in Easley.

Tollison also said police have physical evidence that the clerk fired a gun at the two suspects, but there’s no definitive evidence that either of them were hit.

“It does not appear from the video anything was taken,” he added.

Police said the suspects appear to be dark-skinned males, possibly of African-American descent, between 5’10” and 6 feet tall. One was wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt with a white cloth mask on the lower half of his face. The other suspect was wearing a black vest-style jacket with a gray long-sleeved shirt and orange ski mask.

They left in a 2014-2017 silver Subaru Forester, and were last seen driving down Northeast Main Street toward Hagood Street.

Sacramento Police have made an arrest in the murder of librarian Amber Clark.

Ronald Seay, 56, was arrested less than twelve hours after the shooting occurred on charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle. He was arrested in the Elverta area of Natomas.

Clark was shot and killed in the library parking lot Tuesday evening a little after 6pm, right after she had gotten off work.

On Thursday, police said they charged the suspect with homicide around 4 p.m.

Police said that the suspect lived within a few miles of the library. On Oct. 13, police had contact with the suspect at the North Natomas library when he caused a disturbance. Officers confirmed that Clark was at the library at that time working as a supervisor.

Based on their investigation so far, police believe that the disturbance on Oct. 13 was the only contact Clark and Seay had. Officers also said that Seay was issued a no trespass order after the disturbance.

Officers have recovered firearms in their investigation. They said the victim was shot multiple times and a handgun was used in the shooting.

Officers said that Seay is the only suspect at this time, but they are not ruling anything out at this time in the investigation.

Police have made an arrest in connection with the October shooting death of a woman in east Charlotte.

Yamina Rookard, 17, has been charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Officers were called around 11:20 p.m. on Oct. 17 to the scene at Eastcrest Drive and Central Avenue and found a woman who had been shot.

Jessica Dawn Smith, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rookard was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Jail and has been charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

A 14-year-old boy is believed to be the gunman in a robbery turned murder at a Dollar General store.

Cumberland Police Department Chief Michael Crooke says charging documents are being prepared against the boy.

Police will forward those charging documents to the juvenile court. It is up to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if the boy will be taken to adult court.

37-year-old Gregory Raley was killed Monday night. Police believe he was trying to intervene during a robbery of the store.

Police say he was coming out of the store, then taken around the corner where he was robbed and shot. He was found laying on the ground outside the store and later died.

Four persons of interest were ultimately identified. The 14-year-old and 18-year-old Steven Sheppard were arrested in the case. Sheppard will also be charged.

A 23-year-old man was charged in connection with the September shooting death of a man during what officials believe was a drug deal.

Austin police said Isaac Jerome Thomas Jr., also known as “Lil A,” “Junior” or “JR,” was already in custody in Bastrop County Jail for another crime when he was charged in connection with the death of 26-year-old Joshua Hardesty, found dead on Sept. 11 on East Parmer Lane.

Hardesty was shot several times and was found on the ground at an apartment complex. Police said Hardesty was trying to sell several pounds of marijuana to Thomas.

Officials found a handgun, a phone and a bag with large amounts of marijuana near Hardesty’s body in September, according to documents filed in court. His dog waited by his body until animal control officials arrived at the scene, officials wrote.

Sgt. Eric De Los Santos with the Austin Police Department said they learned about Thomas’ involvement in Hardesty’s murder when they were looking into a different murder that took place in November.

On November 6, APD responded to Norwood Park Blvd. and found Tony Huggins who had been shot.

According to an affidavit, in that case, Huggins was trying to buy marijuana from Thomas.
