At this point, it would be really ridiculous to have to point out that “fact checking” is the threat to the free press.

“We must hold the social platforms accountable to protect our children, our families and our very democracy from the abuse of power,” he added.

The 82-year-old president, who has spent over half of his life in politics, also called for political ethics, campaign financing reforms and other policy “safeguards” to protect Americans from abuses of power by politicians who will come after him.

“We need to get dark money – that’s that hidden funding behind too many campaign contributions – out of our politics,” Biden said. “We need to ban members of Congress from trading stock while they’re in Congress.”

I had a long article about the whole Elon Musk H-1b fiasco planned for today, but I’m tired, so I’m writing a much shittier version instead. I’ll write the better version later this week. Maybe. No promises.

The thesis statement is that the relationship with big tech and American right-wing politics is not really viable, and in fact while some of the pro-business and government mismanagement ideas overlap, as well as I’m sure some of the superficial “culture war” bullshit (which literally does not matter), tech billionaires don’t care about Americans, or even believe in nation-states at all, while caring about Americans is the core premise of American right-wing politics. The H-1B debate is just this fundamental conflict boiling up for the first time.

America is either a geographic area with a series of vague “ideas” that define a “proposition,” or it’s a group of people, defined by a shared history and genetic identity, who live on this land. It can’t be both. People cannot be ideas. And if people were ideas, you would be able to rigidly define those ideas, because people are physical entities that cannot be morphed into abstractions. The ideas would have to be highly particular. But it doesn’t matter, because people are not ideas and this doesn’t make sense.

Firstly, no one cares about the “ideas.” It is farcical, to talk about “we’re a nation based on freedom.” Who is against freedom? What nation’s government condemns freedom? I remember when Matt Walsh, an “America is an idea” conservative who claims to be Catholic, said that the “idea” is human rights. Where is the nation where the government is actively against “human rights” (whatever the term even means)?

It’s also not “democracy.” No one thinks that if Trump had declared himself dictator in 2020, that America would have stopped existing, or that the American people would become less American because they don’t vote anymore. No one cares about voting. If you’re going to define a nation by some kind of “idea,” it would have to be something like communism or Islam, and any such all-consuming idea is almost necessarily going to bring along a strong sense of ethnic nationalism.

Every other historic nation in the world, aside from those in the white, Western world, is defined by its people. What the US is attempting to create is a internationalist system, where there is no real difference between nations, and it doesn’t matter if the people they are replacing you with are Mexicans or Indians (but Indians are much worse).

This is all about India.

Virtually all of these H-1B people are Indians.

Vivek is an Indian, and one would hope that him going up there and taking the mask off, condemning Americans as useless and lazy scum who have to be replaced with his superior kinsfolk, would completely end his career.

I think we’ve all seen useless, lazy American scum. But is that the reason we are being told we have to be replaced with Indians? I mean, even if it were true that Americans are too useless to work at Google, saying that the solution is to replace them with Indians would totally undermine the entire concept of the Trump movement. “Make America Great Again by Replacing Lazy Useless Whites with Subcontinentals” would not have worked as a campaign slogan.

But again: is there some other reason for this push by the tech people to replace Americans?

Remember that these companies have repeatedly, continually replaced American workers with H-1B Indians, not because the white workers were lazy slobs, but because the Indians are cheaper.

This is what Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are demanding more of, what Trump has agreed to.

I don’t know why this is shocking to anyone. During the campaign, Trump was on the All-In podcast, which is basically the official media outlet of the tech world, saying he wanted millions upon millions of Indians to replace white people in American jobs.

The fact that Vivek is spearheading this movement indicates that there really isn’t a place for “Indian-Americans,” which, by the way, is not a real thing. Indians who come to America to feed off the body of this dying nation clearly don’t care much about their own country, and they sure as hell don’t care about ours. They are a threat.

If that were true, that would be very convenient for Indians, wouldn’t it? When an Indian is making this argument, you have to wonder if he has a dog in this fight.

Mexicans do disrupt the labor system in this country, by driving down wages for the lowest wage jobs, they drive down all wages. But they don’t have the same effect as H-1B Indians, who have decimated white collar wages. More importantly, at least to me, Indians have a much more deleterious effect on our culture. Few people ever had their life directly interfered with by a Mexican. (With Biden’s full open-borders, there were problems with various latin-American countries emptying their prisons and mental hospitals to dump those people in our country, but that is new and those people are not from Mexico.) Everyone who works in a middle class job has been forced to engage with Indians in a way that made them uncomfortable. These people are freakish and disgusting and they behave badly. They are incapable of grasping anything about white culture, but they are obsessed with interfering with it, with dominating it.

The fact that Elon Musk is going balls-to-thee-wall for his right to replace the American people with Indians shows that the core ethos of tech people is more aligned with the interests of Indian contracting firms than it is with the interests of Americans.

The biggest H-1B visa winners are largely Indian IT outsourcing firms — Cognizant, Tata, Infosys, HCL — that specialize not in innovation or new tech, but in labor arbitrage: lower paid IT workers as contractors. These firms generate billions then lobby for more lax visa rules.

If it was just about money, these people could go after taxes, try to get rid of these wars, cut the size of the US government massively. But the tech people don’t even understand why they would need to avoid the issue of race-replacement, because they do not have any particular interest in America in the first place. The ideology of these tech people is about putting computer chips in people’s brains, living forever and colonizing outer space. Why would they care about blood and soil? Why would you even expect them to understand why you don’t want to be replaced with Indians?

The only “other” that they recognize is the Chinese, because they’ve witnessed how the Chinese view themselves as a competitor. Chinese are now being heavily ethnically cleansed from Silicon Valley, with the government claiming they are a security risk and the tech people very eager to agree.

They claim that the Chinese are stealing technology. But anyone can steal technology, and everyone does that, and the only reason it would matter is if the Chinese were an organized, competitive threat to some larger ideal.

While some of these notions about a glorious technological utopia exist in China (though many Chinese are also critical of these ideas, as you’d expect), the actual conflict between Silicon Valley and the Chinese is that the Chinese believe in nationalism, something that is incompatible with the Silicon Valley view of the man in the universe.

If Trump had any spine, he’d tell these tech people if they want to hire Indians, they can move their companies to India and pay his tariffs for products imported to the US. But he won’t do that, because as I’ve said, he’s not going to do anything.

Clinton told CNN host Michael Smerconish that while there have been some steps taken at the state level to regulate social media, she wants to see more done by the federal government to moderate content.

Social media and online video companies are collecting huge troves of your personal information on and off their websites or apps and sharing it with a wide range of third-party entities, a new Federal Trade Commission (FTC) staff report on nine tech companies confirms.

The FTC report published on Thursday looked at the data-gathering practices of Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, Discord, Reddit, Amazon, Snap, TikTok and Twitter/X between January 2019 and 31 December 2020. The majority of the companies’ business models incentivized tracking how people engaged with their platforms, collecting their personal data and using it to determine what content and ads users see on their feeds, the report states.

The FTC’s findings validate years of reporting on the depth and breadth of these companies’ tracking practices and call out the tech firms for “vast surveillance of users”. The agency is recommending Congress pass federal privacy regulations based on what it has documented. In particular, the agency is urging lawmakers to recognize that the business models of many of these companies do little to incentivize effective self-regulation or protection of user data.

Notably, the report highlights how consumers have little control over how these companies use and share their personal details. Most companies collected or inferred demographic information about users such as age, gender and language. Some collected information about household income, education and parental and marital status. But even when this type of personal information was not explicitly collected, some companies could analyze user behavior on the platform to deduce the details of their personal lives without their knowledge. For instance, some companies’ user interest categories included “baby, kids and maternity”, which would reveal parental status, or “newlyweds” and “divorce support”, which would reveal marital status. This information was then used by some companies to tailor what content people saw to increase engagement on their platforms. In some cases, that demographic information was shared with third-party entities to help target them with more relevant advertisements.

Several firms say it’s impossible to even compile a full list of who they share your data with. When the companies were asked to enumerate which advertisers, data brokers or other entities they shared consumer data with, none of these nine firms provided the FTC with a full inventory.

Meta is putting Instagram users under the age of 18 into new “teen accounts” to allow parents greater control over their activities, including the ability to block children from viewing the app at night.

In an announcement made a week after the Australian government proposed restricting children from accessing such platforms, Meta says it is launching teen accounts for Instagram that will apply to new users. The setting will then be extended to existing accounts held by teenagers over time.

Changes under the teen account setting include giving parents the ability to set daily time limits for using the app, block teens from using Instagram at certain times, see the accounts their child is messaging and viewing the content categories they are viewing.

Teenagers signing up to Instagram are already placed by default into the strictest privacy settings, which include barring adults from messaging teens who don’t follow them and muting notifications at night.

However, under the new “teen account” feature users under the age of 16 will now need parental permission to change those settings, while 16-18 year olds defaulted into the new features will be able to change them independently. Once an under-16 tries to change their settings, the parental supervision features will allow adults to set new time limits, block access at night and view who their child is exchanging messages with.

It came after the Australian government last week announced plans to introduce legislation to parliament by the end of the year to raise the age children can access social media up to an as-yet-undefined age between 14 and 16.

But unlike other actions the company has taken recently – including by allowing EU users to opt-out of having their data used to train its AI model but not offering a similar option in Australia – Meta’s move is global and will apply to the US, UK and Canada as well as Australia.

Parents apparently do not have any responsibility to raise their kids anymore.

What a coincidence that “The French” are prosecuting the CEO of Telegram at the same time the Americans are calling for Telegram to be shut down because of free speech!

(For anyone who isn’t following: the US told the French to arrest Durov. This is very obvious. The US government can just order any European country to do things. The Europeans are just little puppies for Uncle Sam. The US passed a law to ban TikTok because it doesn’t have enough censorship, so it was obvious they were going to move to stop Telegram as well.)

U.S. prosecutors unveiled criminal charges on Monday against two alleged leaders of a white supremacist gang, saying they used the Telegram social media site to solicit attacks on Black, Jewish, LGBTQ people and immigrants aiming to incite a race war.

The group, dubbed “The Terrorgram Collective”, used the site to celebrate white supremacist attacks around the world and solicit racially motivated violence, prosecutors said in an indictment unsealed in federal court in Sacramento, California.

Dallas Humber, 34, of Elk Grove, California, and Matthew Allison, 37, of Boise, Idaho, each face 15 criminal counts, including soliciting hate crimes and conspiring to provide material support to terrorism. The two were in custody, officials said; it was not immediately clear if they had lawyers.

The most serious charges carry a penalty of up to 20 years in prison.

The group’s targets also included U.S. government officials and critical infrastructure sites, with an overall goal of causing societal collapse in the United States, U.S. Justice Department officials said during an online news conference.

The only important story here is the Telegram angle.

Anglin used to support Nick Fuentes and his “America First” group, but Fuentes recently came out as working with federal informant Chuck Johnson (which he did after becoming friends with Richard Spencer, who also works with Johnson).

The chief executive of Telegram, Pavel Durov, has announced the messaging app will improve moderation on the platform and has removed some features that have been used for illegal activity.

The app’s founder unveiled the changes on Friday hours after calling his arrest by the French authorities last month “misguided”. Durov has since been charged with allegedly allowing criminal activity on the app.

Did you know the Arabs were selling Filipino maids on Facebook Marketplace? It took them years to ban it and it’s probably still happening.

Was Mark Zuckerberg arrested by the French for that? I forget.

I’m not even saying Zuckerberg should be charged for that. I’m just saying this Telegram thing is fake. When you have a platform with hundreds of millions of users, you can’t possibly be expected to police the whole thing.

In a post on X, he said the messaging app was “committed to turn moderation on Telegram from an area of criticism into one of praise”.

The changes announced by Durov included removing the app’s “people nearby” feature, which he said had “issues with bots and scammers”, and replacing it with “businesses nearby”, featuring legitimate businesses; and disabling media uploads on the app’s blogging tool, Telegraph, which Durov said was being “misused by anonymous actors”.

The Verge, a tech news site, also reported that Telegram has removed references on its FAQ page to private chats being protected and that requests to moderate them would not be processed. A spokesperson told the site that the app’s source code had not changed but users could report a new chat to moderators.

Durov added that Telegram’s nearly 1 billion users had been let down by a minority.

“While 99.999% of Telegram users have nothing to do with crime, the 0.001% involved in illicit activities create a bad image for the entire platform, putting the interests of our almost billion users at risk,” he said.

It’s not actually about criminality. Again, Facebook was running an open slave market for years on end. That’s true. Click the CNN link above or look it up yourself. People were complaining like “yo, Zuck, why you running a slave market???” and he was like “yeah, we’ll get to that at some point in the future.”

Governments do not care about child porn or human trafficking or any of the other things they’re accusing Durov of.

What they care about is people talking about Jews and other things you’re not allowed to talk about. They care about people posting videos of what is going on in Palestine. They care about unsanctioned opinion.

That’s the only thing they care about.

This case against Durov is from the American feds. They just used their little bitch-boy France to do their dirty work. Every European state is just a little bitch for Washington.
