A man accused of killing his wife in 2011 and then fleeing the country with their child was due to appear before a judge Monday, but due to the spread of novel coronavirus, his court appearance has been rescheduled.

Oscar Lozada, charged with the murder of his wife, Sylviane Lozada, has been given a new trial date of Monday, July 13.

Public court records indicate that Lozada is scheduled to appear in Judge Anthony Marabella’s courtroom on the aforementioned date.

The rescheduled date is due to a pandemic-induced mandatory suspension of all jury trials in Louisiana until June 30th.

A grand jury indicted Lozada in January of 2019 for the murder of his wife, who went missing in 2011.

Officials say after Sylviane vanished, Lozada fled to Venezuela with their young daughter where authorities were unable to apprehend Oscar for seven years.

Law enforcement hit a break in the case in 2018 when investigators found him living in Mexico, where he was apprehended and extradited to the U.S.

An Aurora man has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a 20-year-old woman.

Marcos Gutierrez, 21, was advised Monday in Adams County court, by video appearance, of the charge against him, according to a 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office news release.

On April 11, Aurora police responded to a 911 call and went to an apartment in the 1900 block of Peoria Street where they found Airica May Beaty bleeding from stab wounds, the release said. She was taken to University of Colorado Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they found Gutierrez naked and covered in blood, lying in a fetal position on the kitchen floor, according to an arrest warrant in the case.

The arrest warrant alleges, based on interviews with two witnesses who were inside the residence at the time of the incident, that the defendant and victim were both under the influence of LSD.

At one point, Gutierrez allegedly loaded a rifle and said that he was going to shoot himself. He was disarmed and a short time later came upon Beaty from behind, reaching around and slitting her throat with a knife. The pair fell to the floor.

“Why did you do that, what did you do,” said Beaty, according to the affidavit.

Gutierrez has been charged with one count of first-degree murder after deliberation.

A man has been held without bail in connection to a double homicide in Providence, according to police.

Authorities said Jose Diaz Marmolejos, 33, who was charged with two counts of murder, appeared in court on Monday for an arraignment.

Police said they responded to the train tracks near 135 Harris Avenue on Friday night just after 6:30 p.m.

They said they located a parked SUV with two dead bodies inside, later identifying them as Hailey K. Bennett and Ostwald “Danny” Sanchez.

Through the help of surveillance video and other evidence, police said they learned that the crime occurred in Central Falls, adding that the investigation remains ongoing.

“Paying the toll” also applies to women who date Aztecs.

A Wichita man has been charged with murder in connection with the domestic violence shooting deaths of his girlfriend and daughter last week, police said.

Officer Paul Cruz said in a news release that Daniel Oswaldo Lopez was charged in Sedgwick County District Court with capital murder, criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated assault.

No charging document or arrest warrant for the murder case were publicly available through the court system Sunday afternoon. However, court documents from a separate case allege Lopez killed his family two days before their bodies were found.

Lopez, who is not in custody, is wanted in connection with the shooting deaths of his girlfriend MicKayla Sorell, 24, and their daughter Natalya Sorell, 8. Police were called March 30 to check the welfare of the woman after she did not show up to work. Officers found their bodies in a home in the 4500 block of South Walnut.

A probation violation warrant filed last week alleges the slaying happened on March 28, and that Lopez forced someone to drive him around at gunpoint.

Lopez has prior convictions in Sedgwick County, including drug charges, a weapons violation, and for theft and forgery, according to KDOC records. Community corrections last listed him as under intensive supervision. District court records show he was on probation at the time his family was shot and killed.

A judge on Thursday issued a probation-violation arrest warrant for Lopez, court records from a 2018 case for methamphetamine and weapon possession show. A supervision officer alleged that Lopez committed two counts of capital murder in connection with the deaths of his girlfriend and daughter. The officer also alleged that, on the same day, Lopez committed aggravated kidnapping and criminal possession of a firearm.

A police case connected with the gun and kidnapping allegations states that a 25-year-old victim told police that Lopez forced him to drive around south Wichita at gunpoint. The police report wasn’t filed until the day after MicKayla and Natalya Sorell were found dead.

A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of a woman in Mount Airy, the Surry County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities said they responded to a shooting Thursday in the 200 block of Peele Road. Deputies said they found a woman, later identified as Santana Cortney Paige Brown, 38, dead from a gunshot wound.

Investigators identified Alfonso Ocampo, 39, as the shooter and obtained information that he was in the Greensboro area, the sheriff’s office said.

Ocampo was arrested at a Greensboro home roughly seven hours after the shooting.

A 61-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend in Lower Moreland Township, Montgomery County, police said Tuesday.

According to investigators, Williams Tomas Torres, 61, of Elkton, Maryland, has been arrested in the homicide of Jeanne Edwards, 57.

Police were dispatched to a home in the 2300 block of Dale Road in the Huntingdon Valley section of Lower Moreland Township at about 2:25 p.m. on Monday.

When officers arrived, they found Edwards suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to investigators, the victim’s son arrived home and heard a “pop” as he pulled into the driveway. When he went inside, he found his mother’s ex-boyfriend standing in the doorway holding a shotgun pointed at him.

Torres left the house and the victim’s son called 911.

An autopsy performed on Tuesday revealed that Edwards died as a result of multiple shotgun wounds to the torso.

Torres is charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, simple assault recklessly endangering another person and possession of an instrument of crime.

He was being held without bond and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 10.

Family members have identified the man who shot and killed his estranged wife and her new boyfriend in a Walmart parking lot in Oklahoma before turning the gun on himself.

The gunman, Yayo Varela Jr, allegedly opened fire outside the supercenter in Duncan, killing his wife, Becky Vescio, and her boyfriend Aubrey Perkins in their car.

A witness claimed the shooter fired nine rounds into the car before fatally shooting himself when an armed citizen intervened.

The shots rang out just before 10am Monday morning, and officers from the Duncan Police Department arrived a short time after and found all three victims dead.

Authorities have yet to confirm the names of any of the dead, but loved ones identified Varela Jr and Vescio in Facebook posts and a friend confirmed to KFDX that Perkins was the third victim.

Family members at the scene said the shooting was sparked by a domestic dispute between Varela Jr and Vescio, who have two children together.

Aerial footage from Reuters shows police cordoning off a large area of the parking lot at 3393 North 81 Highway. Duncan is about 80 miles south of Oklahoma City.

Police are also seen looking at a red vehicle that appears to have multiple bullet holes in the windshield. A handgun was found at the scene.

No staff members were involved in the shooting and the store was not evacuated, Walmart spokeswoman LeMia Jenkins said in an email.

‘This was an isolated incident in the parking lot and was not an active shooter situation,’ Jenkins said.

A New York college student’s convicted killer has been sentenced to a maximum of 30 years in prison in Nicaragua where he fled after the murder.

Orlando Tercero, 23, was found guilty of last year’s murder of Binghamton University student 22-year-old Haley Anderson in a Nicaragua courtroom Nov. 1. The sentencing was Friday.

Nicaragua prohibits the extradition of its own citizens, leading to the rare legal proceeding in which New York prosecutors participated in the case via a video hookup by lining up witnesses. Tercero is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Nicaragua.

Investigators believe Anderson was asleep when Tercero strangled her to death, Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell said Friday, according to Fox 40 Binghamton.

“It doesn’t get any more sick and depraved than that,” he said after the sentencing, according to the station. “Not only is he using his physical abilities, but praying on somebody who is helpless.”

Anderson’s parents joined Cornwell to watch the sentencing in his office, the station reported.

Friends of Anderson, who was from Long Island, said Tercero was obsessed with her. He met her at Binghamton where he was also a student.

Her body was found in his off-campus apartment.

A Nicaraguan judge found Orlando Tercero guilty of femicide in the death of Binghamton University student Haley Anderson on Friday afternoon.

The judge deliberated for about an hour and a half prior to delivering her verdict. Before she did, she denounced violence against women and advocated for equal rights between men and women.

“[Anderson] tried to maintain autonomy over herself,” the judge said, as translated by Broome County’s court interpreter, Tony Colon, at Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell’s office in Binghamton.

The date for the sentencing will be negotiated between U.S. and Nicaraguan authorities. He is facing a possible sentence of 30 years in a Nicaraguan prison.

Tercero, 23, was found guilty of strangling Anderson, a 22-year-old nursing student, some time March 8, 2018 at his apartment on Oak Street in Binghamton. The two had been in an “on-and-off” relationship for about a year, according to testimony, but Anderson didn’t share his feelings when he sought a more serious relationship.

“There was some ease to the heartache and a little bit of conclusion,” Haley’s father, Gordon Anderson. “I mean it’s not over, and there will always be an emptiness that’s there, but it was nice to see that Nicaragua did a really professional, bang up job to get the job done.”

Tercero still faces a second-degree murder charge in Broome County, but Nicaragua’s government has declined extraditing him back to the U.S.

Nearly four years after a woman was found shot to death in her Oklahoma City home, her husband is on trial for her murder.

In November of 2015, Oklahoma City police were called to Rebecca Diaz’s home in far southeast Oklahoma City after receiving a disturbing 911 call.

Investigators say Diaz’s husband, Humberto Diaz, called 911 to report that he had shot his wife to death.

Prior to the shooting, authorities say they had been called out to the home several times for mental health and domestic issues.

“I started to get really nervous. She told me things weren’t the greatest between them, but she loved him and wanted things to work,” Sherri Sisk, Rebecca’s sister-in-law, told FOX 17. “I thought she would be smart enough to get out of things started getting bad.”

Humberto Diaz was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the case.
