The idea of robbing someone who was in need of medical help would never have even been thought of in White countries, if they had not been filled with people incapable of the abstract thought necessary to prevent such actions.

A woman with epilepsy had her purse stolen by a bogus Good Samaritan while she lay unconscious in a city centre street, West Midlands Police has said.

The force said two women went to the 25 year old’s aid after she “blacked out” and collapsed in Summer Row, Birmingham.

When she regained consciousness she found her purse was missing.

Police have released CCTV images of two women they want to speak to in relation to the incident, on February 22.

PC David Horton, from the Jewellery Quarter police team, said it was “not clear if the two women were together” and that one of them may have genuinely tried to help.

“This was a callous and terribly sad case where a lady was taken ill just yards from her place of work, only to then become a victim of crime when completely defenceless,” he said.

A 16-year-old was arrested Friday, accused of attacking a disabled man pumping gas last month.

Kevin Johnson is charged with abuse of a disabled adult in the Feb. 4 attack at the Hess station on Merrill Road.

Michael Caraway was walking with a cane when he was struck in the face by a group a teens he believes was playing the “knockout game.” Caraway told Channel 4 the pain was extreme for a long time after he was attacked in February.

“I’m doing better, just taking things one day at a time,” said Caraway. “My wife and children are way more cautious than what we’ve been.”

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigators obtained video from a nearby store that captured a group of males walking in front of a store during the same time period the attack occurred. Investigators were able to identify Johnson as a suspect and obtained a search warrant for his cellphone.

Police say multiple videos on the phone show juveniles walking up to unsuspecting individuals and punching them — an activity called the “knockout game” by national media outlets.

Channel 4 brought the news of the arrest in his case Friday night to Caraway as he was outside his Arlington home.

“We would never expect it to happen to me and it did. So now we’re saying it can happen, so I tell my daughters be on their best behavior, looking out for people,” said Caraway. “They go in pairs now; my daughter does not like to go out by herself anymore since this happened.”

While Caraway said he is relieved that there’s been an arrest, he also thinks there are other teens who were present when he was punched in the face. Caraway said he hopes any accomplices are caught as well.

“They really try to knock you out, so when they try and knock you out, they’re going to do it. These are big boys,” said Caraway.

Johnson was charged as a juvenile with a third-degree felony and was ordered held without bond.

The son of a 69-year-old deaf man robbed and assaulted last week at a MetroLink platform isn’t sure which is worse: that there was no security around to prevent his father from being mugged in broad daylight or that bystanders at the Richmond Heights’ station ignored his father’s pleas following the attack.

According to St. Louis County police, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. last Tuesday when the victim was purchasing his ticket at the automated kiosk. A suspect — described only as a black male — grabbed the victim’s money as he attempted to purchase a ticket. When the victim held tight to the cash, the suspect struck him in the face and ran off with $22.

Randy Moehlman, the victim’s son, tells Daily RFT that his father was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Still, he remains active and frequently uses MetroLink to journey out for lunch. Moehlman says his father was doing just that last Tuesday when he was mugged and assaulted at the MetroLink stop.

“There were at least a half-dozen other commuters on the platform who saw this and heard my dad’s screams,” says Moehlman. “But they just chose to ignore him, and my father being deaf can’t call the police himself.”

Help arrived only after a woman getting off a train noticed Moehlman’s bloody father and dialed 911. But since she had not witnessed the robbery, she was unable to offer police assistance.

Reached for comment late last week, Richard Zott, chief of public safety for Metro, could not tell Daily RFT why security was not around to prevent the robbery.

“We have fixed security there but they could have been in the parking lot or on the train,” says Zott.

The incident remains unsolved and under investigation. And while security cameras did not capture the mugging, video from the time does confirm that fellow commuters did nothing to assist the victim following the assault.

“It’s a sad state affairs when someone is hurt and no one steps in to help,” notes Zott.

On that point, Zott and the victim’s son can agree.

“My faith in human decency took a serious hit this week,” says Moehlman. “I certainly would not expect someone to jump in the middle of a physical altercation and be ‘superman’ because you never know if the person has a weapon. But what disgusts me, what I find despicable, is the lack of human decency by the people who were around the scene at the time. Not one person stuck around to help after the guy ran off. Not one person called 911 while it was happening. Not one person stayed to offer first-hand accounts, give statements, help ID the suspect. No one.”

Moehlman says that his father — who asked not to be named in this article — is back from the hospital and recovering from the bloody lip sustained in the assault. The bigger setback from the robbery, says Moehlman, is what it could do to his father’s independence.

His dad no longer drives more than a mile or two from home and had relied on MetroLink for longer journeys. Now he’s not sure he’ll ride the light rail again.

“And can you blame him?” asks Moehlman.

A court  has heard how two men and a woman savagely beat a vulnerable man to death.

Barry Shillam, from Rotten Park Road, Edgbaston, died in hospital from multiple organ failure and internal bleeding on Thursday 18 July last year.

Today Andrea Jones, aged 40, from Brook Street, Smethwick, John Scott, aged 47 from Oldbury, along with 40-year-old Gurminder Singh from St Matthews Road, Smethwick, were found guilty of his murder after a three week trial.

The jury heard how the known alcohol dependent group had befriended 53-year-old Barry and invited him back to Jones’ flat for a drinking session.

However, after falling asleep, the group turned violent after discovering that Barry had consumed some cider belonging to one of them.

All three have been jailed for life for Barry’s murder and will serve a minimum of 15 years.

Detective Sergeant Harry May, from the Major Investigation and Review Team, said: “This triggered a prolonged and vicious attack on Barry where he was punched and kicked for over an hour, having been dragged and left on grassland outside the flat.

“Barry was registered disabled, suffering from severe short-term memory loss, and was unable to defend himself. He didn’t stand a chance from the severe beating that was thrust upon him.”

“Throughout the trial the trio tried to blame each other for the attack on Barry, but ultimately they have all been found guilty of murder.”

DS May added: “Today our thoughts go out to Barry’s family who are all devastated by his tragic death.

“He was a father of three and had three step children. He lived with his elderly mother, had five brothers and two grandchildren and they all loved him dearly. He will be sorely missed.”

His brother, Stephen Falconer, spoke on behalf of the family, he said: “Barry has been torn from our hearts and our lives have been shattered.

“We have to try to rebuild our lives without Barry and that makes us sad, we are the ones who have been given a life sentence.

“Barry was easy prey in terms of his weakness physically and mentally, he would have seen his murderers as friends.

“He was a lovely natured man who enjoyed simple pleasures of life but the harsh reality is that not everyone is as trustworthy.”

A wicked thief stole disability benefit from a wheelchair user after prowling a Birmingham retirement block looking for vulnerable victims.

Waheed Ahmed claimed to be collecting charity cash on a door-knocking tour of Balsall Heath and, having pocketed £200 in loose change, barged his way past the amputee to swipe his fortnightly pay-out from a kitchen table.

The 46-year-old took £480 in notes from the Edward Road address and moments later, as the pensioner was on the phone to police, returned to mop up the remaining pound coins he’d left behind.

Two PCSOs from Balsall Heath police station quickly stopped a man in the street suspected of accompanying Ahmed on the bogus collections, whilst house-to-house enquiries identified a man named “Saleem” as being responsible.

Local officers linked the name to Ahmed , from Wilton Road in Sparkhill, whilst descriptions of the attacker given by residents also pointed to him being the prime suspect.

He was arrested from his home address the morning after the June 14 theft last year and, having initially denied being involved, later admitted burglary after being picked out during ID procedures and being shown CCTV of him near the scene.

And at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday (Jan 27) he was jailed for five years.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Alan Nevin from West Midlands Police Force CID, said: “Ahmed’s actions were shameful: he conned many residents out of money claiming he was collecting for charity then attacked an amputee pensioner for disability allowance he needed to pay bills.

“He spotted the money on a table, asked to use a toilet in order to gain access to the house but when refused entry shoved the victim back into his wheelchair and scooped up the money. Incredibly, he returned shortly after to collect around £20 in pound coins whilst the man was dialling 999.

“This wasn’t an opportunist crime: Ahmed was scoping out residents in an area populated by largely retired people in the hope of finding easy targets.

“The disabled man wasn’t injured but Ahmed has rightly been handed a lengthy jail term for what was a despicable offence.”

A CCTV trawl carried out by detectives showed Ahmed asking diners for money at a local café minutes before knocking the 64-year-old man’s door at 9pm.

And a neighbour told officers how Ahmed jammed his foot against her front door, stopping her closing it, and appeared to be peering around her living room when he appeared at her door asking for mosque donations.
